Hi there again guys ^^.
Well, after considering a lot, me and my bf are trying to get a good duo to play together.
When we first started, i made a Silver Ranger, who is lvl 42 atm and he made a Glad, which is lvl 45 atm. But we would like to play as a duo with complementary classes. So, since he likes his char and i dont really have much fun with my ranger, im considering making a new character.
Also, i don´t like kiteing.. the silver ranger bored me to death T_T.
I really like elves, but im willing to play other races, excluding orcs <_<. I just want it to be more usefull and fun to play than my Silver Ranger, that couldn´t tank anything at ALL...
What suggestions would you guys have? I would like a char that could nicely duo with his gladiator but also could kill and not only support. I heard prophets get nerfed in C5 and the elven classes arent exactly the best killers... so.. help please T_T...
if you dont want only support and cleric class kinda fails cept for the orcs :p but since you dont want those, for some odd reason.. you`ll be stuck with a DD class most likely, because the glad should keep agro pretty well

but nobody can really help you alot if you dont tell us what you really like as in melee, range, high dmg numbers, like critting ? blablabla..

anyway, now that i think of it a bladedancer can do some dmg with duels and the dances will make sure the crits hurt ALOT. or a swordsinger but i would advice the bd :p
Well... i just don´t want to be a sitting duck while others kill and get their fun xD

I could play supportive classes i guess, but no orcs <_<!
You best choice would be a BD (buffs, damage) which is part of the dark elf group. Since the glad does hold argo you should try a mage class that can cut down the kill time for the glad. Try a light elf SPS (spellsinger) or a dark elf SH (Spellhowler) they will both help the glad & the SH levels fast. Good luck on your decision. If you are looking for a class that can multi-task & be a huge help factor to the Glad, you should also (if ever interested) try out a Human class PP (Prophet) They can Heal/Buff & help deal damage along with the Glad. (They do get heavy Masteries for armour) :) Good luck on your class choice.
I asked about duoing with a Gladiator in another thread.

Glad thread (http://boards.lineage2.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=688946&an=0&page=1#Post6 88946)

Perhaps you can find some stuff here, though I don't need to worry about a support class because I have access to them. You might want to play either one of the support classes or a dagger users.

I've found that with vampiric rage my friend's knight and my dagger user pretty much destroy everything in our path very quickly.
The best duo for any melee class is a Shilien Elder. Get yourself a decent weapon and help the melee whack the mob. Use root to keep troublemobs at a distance when they cant wait for their turn.
Well, everyone's posts are helping.. we just need to find out what works best for us..
Let's keep seeing what else people have to say, but thanks in advance to everyone who is helping.. ^_^!
Lots of good answers in this thread.

Since your friend wants to keep his Gladiator, your best choice would be class which does damage on its own AND at the same time enhances the damage the Gladiator does. That would be either a BD or a SwS. Of these two, the BD is in my opinion the better choice, since most of his buffs enhance damage, while the SwS does basically only have one song for crit rate and the rest is defensive - and BD does a lot more damage than a SwS.

Warcryer would also be a good choice, because they have all the nice buffs, including haste and VR, the most important ones for melee classes. But since you do not want orcs, that does not seem a choice. So let's skip the rest of the orc classes, too.

Very good would also be buffer/healer classes - especially prophet and SE, but they are not really that good at dealing damage themselves. Still, a prophet or SE would make lvling speed a LOT faster. SE would be a very good choice because of the VR buff and because you can buy haste 1 and haste 2 potions (alacrity potions), while you cannot buy VR potions. And SE has of course much better heals than a prophet. Both classes deal halfway decent damage when you give them some duals or maybe a dagger. Not as good as a Gladiator, but then you of course want the aggro to stay on that one anyway :)

When you get a bit higher level (50-60), you need one of these support classes anyway, or the downtime will be too much. You simply need heals and buffs.

If you do not really care about buffing your friend and just want to deal damage yourself, a dagger user would also be a good choice. I am not so sure about choosing a nuker as a duo partner - you would constantly pull aggro from your friend, the mob would run after you and your friend would have to run after the mob. Does not sound too fun to me.

Bishop and EE are of course also good support classes, but they do not really get any nice buffs the Gladiator would benefit from.
Nukers don't pull that much aggro - what's true though is that they run OOM and/or have to stand around doing nothing a lot.

Melee and magic just don't mix that well in a duo.

I'd say use a Prophet or SE with +STR tats, or a BD.

MUWHAA I think I said the same thing, except I didn't mention the SE, because I thought the OP didn't want to make a healer class.
The SE is also a buffer, and offers the much-wanted VR to a duo. :D

They're no worse killers than prophets really - haste comes in a bottle, the only thing they're short on are Holy Weapon and Zerk.

Of course the BD most fits her description, but that will quickly become a Downtime Duo.

I didn't think they had bless the shield, or bless the soul & the one tha gives MP? They don't have magic barrier or Invigor either.
If it came down to fighting an SE my level, with the same equipment & everything & using our own buffs. My Prophet would probably win, the buff that increase my HP & will make the difference in a fight like that. They don't have a HP buff in a bottle (unless they use HP pots) but I could use those too heh I think your only as worse of a killer as you play your character. My Prophet took down both a BD my level & a SE level 74. I'm sitting at level 55. If you don't know how to play that character, then of course you wont be the best at killing with it. (of course the exception that Prophets aren't meant to be a DD or a hardcore killer like nukers) I know this, I just think we top the list when it comes to the best killer out of the buffers/healers. :)
Bless the shield is, for obvious reasons, utterly useless in a duo with a gladiator.

Bless the Body comes off a staff.

Bless the Soul is only useful in PvE for summoners and prophets.

Invigor is not necessary if you can just cure the bleed.

Magic Barrier is once again made up for by either hunting non-nuking mobs, or by the far superior heals of the SE.

The SE has VR (significant in a healer fight), considerably more powerful heals and so on - just not the heavy armour mastery to go with it, but windshackle more than compensates.

The top of the list of the best killer buffers are obviously the orcs, afterwards the elders and PPs, when stacked against each other, are fairly even - except, of course, the EE would very likely win the second he landed his first trance and got to remove the MP of his opponent (this might even make the fight against an orc).

It's just that most people don't play elders battle style one ounce. :p I fully intend to use my knight's sword and shield and buy a light armour for my baby EE eventually though.

I didn't think they had bless the shield, or bless the soul & the one tha gives MP? They don't have magic barrier or Invigor either.

Gladi has duals most often, so no bless shield is needed. And btb and bts are more inportant in pvp and such. in regular grinding it doenst matter as much.

Actually I think they would want the extra HP from that buff. I was just listing the other buffs that an SE doesn't have. Prophets also have Heavy masteries, so they can take a hit a lot more then SE if it came down to them being introuble. They also have acumen & even thou this skill applies to mages mostly, I've actually had Melee classes as me for acumen buff.
So lets see.. the top options of the list are Prophets, Shilien Elders, Elven Elders, Blade Dancers and Spell Howlers..

I heard somewhere that prophets cannot use duals after C5.. is that right?

Nope thats not true. Healers/Buffers can use Duals/Daggers etc.. They have a penalty for using polearms & bows.
Even after C5?

I wouldn't user a Spellhowler with a Glad, their fighting styles are just too different. It's important for a caster to kill things quickly. If you just duoing, that is going to be frustrating... seriously consider a dagger user. That or a blade dancer.
The only restrictions after C5 are bows and poles.

And I don't want to derail this further Tiffy, but your prejudice against the SE are totally unfounded. Their only problems lie end-game.

lol no prejudice, I have an SE hehe I'm just saying I like my Prophet buffs better then the SE. I also think a Prophet could take an SE in a fight. I've fought a 74 & when my co- clan leader comes back from vacation I will be trying it again 1on1 (55 Prophet vs 61 SE)
Anyways go for a BD or Dagger user, they are both the top choices to duo with the glad.

Maybe a battle prophet/shilien elder..?

If you want the buffer, sure. I love support classes, but not everyone is suited to them.

Why dont you like orcs? Imho WC woud of been great duo for any mele. It got almost all the dd buffs of profet and the VR on top. And also WC got better mele and casting skills then a profet.
well... >.<! It's just cause I wanna play a "cute-looking" chara. Thats actually why i like elvens most. haha

LE females are so twiggy
Human female mystics looks like submissive housewives

...what about a bounty hunter? they can stand on their heads, thats cute ^^ bh is a fun class, since you duo a lot you will be able to kill mobs in your level range easy even without buffs, and you get to keep all the spoils, just sign a prenuptual party agreement. a bounty hunter character will give you extra responsibilities in the party however, you will have to be the one that knows where to hunt and what material/enchant/keymat you should be looking for, and what mobs drop/spoil it, so that you can equip a gladiator and a bounty hunter.
serriously though, if you like elves, play an elf. swordsinger is a fun class, so is plains walker. they both run up and hit the mobs, that seems to be what you're looking for, to be in the thick of the fight.

Melee and magic just don't mix that well in a duo.

I wouldn’t say that. I party with an SH all the time and we do very well. I pull aggro with 3 or so mobs, get a couple of hits in and she uses cdl to finish them off, <3 cdl btw

But for the record I would recommend BD. Buy lvl 52 you can maintain 2 dances and use hex sparingly with out much concern for mp. For lvl 40 – 52 if you just duo with your Gladdy friend you should be able to maintain dance of fire and use hex with minimal down time. Avoid using Sting when maintaining dances while grinding. It cost way to much mp and takes to long.

If you have any specific BD questions I may be able to help, however this is just my 1st character in the game also. I like BD so much the need to make an alt hasn’t happened yet.
thanks alot everybody.
I had some trouble to decide between a blade dancer and a prophet but now I started a blade dancer. (If i don't like it, i'll make a prophet later on *g*) At the moment she is lvl 13 & i'm lvling her around RoA/RoD to get to lvl 20 as soon as possible.
I'd be really thankful if someone of you could give me a little strategy on how & where to lvl the fastest & which gear to get for her. ^^;

Thanks alot!

If you've got the money:
1-20 you want to get any armour, but the set armour usually used is the NG Wooden Set & a sword/shield setup.
20-40 you will probably want the brig set with DG Duals.
Most people I see level in Windy Hills from 15-20 for a bit, but watch out for the pkers. If you get bored there, you can get a quest from the guard standing to the left of that enterance to the windy hills, & You go killing some lizards. From level 20 I leveled outside of Dion town, by all the orcs/eyes etc.. You can also get a quest there to make wine I believe at level 20 to kill orcs. From 25-40 I switched it up between Cruma Swamps & EG. Good luck I hope this helped you out a bit, maybe someone else can add on.. if your on the Sieg server pm me, I'll be glad to help you out :)
Nooo not more BD's cant see the words anymore thanks the gods i only have a few more levels to go before i can sub

She said if she doesn't like BD's that she was going to try for a Prophet ;)
thank you, but unfortunatly i'm on Teon... =/ Otherwise i'd be really glad if you could give me a hand.

@Abisha ...? are there so many BDs? Even on Teon?..

What Tiffy said and what you are doing are absolutely spot on. In addition though if you have the spare adena after you make lvl 20 I would recommend getting a good shield sword combo in addition to the duals. For one reason, Raids. Remember at lvl 20 you are a Palus Knight you get UD, Shield mastery, Defense aura 2 and Aggression at lvl 24. put all this together and you are a good tank. You should not have a problem getting a raid group and the xp is phenomenal.
on the server i am their are so many BD as churches
when i first started with my BD i think they where rare but somewhere on the line i just see them more and more like a endless beam of light and yes they are good but not that good if you consider other class's

Well originally, she was trying to just figure out what class is good to duo with a Glad, well adding bonuses to possibly help the Glad out at the same time. :)
Im the glad that will party with her...

But i've been noticing that... besides her, that is my gf,
THERE IS NO LOVE FOR GLADS!!!!!!

Seriously ;_; ...

well... >.<! It's just cause I wanna play a "cute-looking" chara. Thats actually why i like elvens most. haha

Not making a comment on the duos as it's all been said, just commenting on the 'no orcs' thing. I have a female destroyer and she looks amazing. There are several choices in the hair and face area which mean an orc can look quite good - not cute though :p - and she has a body I would kill for, especially in her current BW. I would say at least look at the possiblities when you create a new character, you might be surprised :)

Oh and not suggesting a Destroyer, it's just that she is the Orc I play.

A clan mate of mine is a gladiator and he loves the class. He tried playing other classes as alts but never went too far with them.

And yes, there is a lot of Bladedancers in all servers. They are a very popular class. Must be the appeal of duals and a vampiric dance. :p
I love my class too! Im just saying that there's no love from the general public lol xD!

Its like this:

RBP LF TANK
Me: I can tank
RBP: Got hate?
Me: No..
RBP: NVM SRY.

RBP LF DD
Me: I can do support dmg.
RBP: R U NUKAH?
Me: No.. im a gladiator.
RBP: NVM SRY.

PP LFG
Me: We can duo some places.
PP: R U NUKAH/DD?
Me: Well.. im a gladiator.
PP: NO WAY SRY.

I still like my class tho :P
Hey there.

I have only read the first post of yours and a few others. But heres my advice!

I wouldnt worry about what class would duo well with whatever. Playing a class just cos it duos well, while being good, ask yourself do you think it will keep your intrest?

So yea i would scrap all things from your mind and pick a class you fancy playing! Something you like will hopefully keep the drive there!

For me like you i couldnt stand kiting, though i do like the idea of rangers i think shooting and running would do my head in. ( i havent tried it though! maybe one day! ) I prefer to get stuck in with melee.

Check out the skills of them, see if you like it, and its all good. Also i would choose something you find pleasing to the eye ingame.

On the other hand maybe you do want someone to compliment the others skill set, if so ignore me...

cya ingame.

I can kinda understand that. When I am partying with my Elven Elder the first thing people do when they see a Shillien Elder is ask the SE for Vampiric Rage. If it is a prophet it is for haste and berserk.
It is like my buffs and heals aren't good enough.

Oh, and for the original poster... I would get a bronze set on the first 20 levels if you have the money. The bonus from wooden set doesn't make that much of a difference and the p. def from bronze set is much better.

And orc mystics offer same amaising look with little less muscless (sp?) and also a great adition to a mele fighter and can stand for itcelf when the fighter is unawailable.
