i play an overlord on sieghardt server and i've been playing for about a year now and i'm just up to lvl 55 i know i'm doing something wrong and i've had breaks in time played but seems like everybody is passing me up start from scratch and explain how i should rectify this situation.... ANY help would be appriciated.. thanks
OverLords seem to take a long time anyways, but these suggestions may help:
A Great Clan / Alliance will help more than anything.
Finding solo areas is a bit different for the OL. When I ask on alliance where is my next solo level, it is always where nukers and archers go. I usually need to find other areas. I personally like mops w/ magic attacks since our M.Def is higher than anything else out there, these are like flea flicks where as physical based attacks, when wearing robes tears right thru me.
Find the right weapon to solo with. I just started to use a dagger after using an AoBA for 10 levels. I am now killing a whole lot faster.
The Clan / Alliance thing was the BIGGEST thing for me after 52. They took me out and let me grind with some boss DD / Nuker parties and I was rolling again just like the pre 52 days.

Yea dude, If you solo, which I do mostly. Get your self some tsu/sls duals +4 for crits some greater atk pots and some heal pots, then go to Enchanted valley and start grinding.
Try groups in apostate... and get into a clan if you want and hussle to get in parties.
It's not exactly fair for me because I have an SE and a PP. So far the SE is much better to lvl with than the PP
im a 62 overlord and im wondering what weapen i should be using for solo now. i see some people with a dagger, which seems nice, but with low dex wont i miss alot ? duels.. are expensive and i need to OE for a SA and i kinda fear that
with some help from clan i can get A grade, just no SA yet but in time... so what should i get to solo now ? A grade dagger, duels or whatever ? or a OEd B grade..
I am not saying I am all knowing, but I was going SoM w/ acumen for my A grade. I have b grade dagger. Much cheaper in the run for hunting, etc. and I hope to use my SoM for pvp when I can afford it. I also wanted a one handed weapon because I love the shield against archers in PvP and against physical attacks in PvE.
I did have a blunt, but it seemed like the stuns hardly ever landed.
The Dagger has Focus, which is what I would have looked at if I wanted the duals too.

having tried Crit duals(NM*NM+5), Dama/focus+3, GS focus+3, Kris focus+3, DMG+3/health in my search for fastest leveling... I found the dagger the best. Use it on Green mobs that are very close together and you get a very good crit rate+miss very little. Grouping with people against yellow+ mobs and the dagger does miss alot, so I would go for duals/blunt/one handed sword if you do group alot with higher level people.
Buuut that said, even when I was doing my best back at 61 I found out a SH was getting roughly the same % a buffround as me...and he was 73. Really disheartening :(
But I did actually suprise another OL in clan with how fast I was going lol.
Ah and another +1 for daggers is that if you do have a VR buffer/ dualbox a SE/WC VR will keep your HP up a ton, and Soul Cry makes your dagger crits more frequent and much harder. (1600-1800dmg per crit in BD catacomb groups with SoulCry )

On green/white mobs you will hit mobs with a dagger like you did on those same mobs with a sword before you got the Accuracy buff. BUT, you will hit faster and crit more. The more you party with people above your level, the more you need additional accuracy to hit stuff.
If at all possible I'd love to have 3 weapons on my OL. Dagger w/focus for grind solo. Sword (1H or 2H) w/focus for Parties and a Blunt with Mana Up or Conversion for sieges/raids. (Or parties where there isn't a SE around for VR and Crit buffs.
Hey thanks for the help now for the BW vs. AVA questions which would be better for me and i am a bit confused on the kris vs. aboa since the aboa's stats are higher what would be the point of a kris??? any help would be apriciated.
Kris - hit quick, often and criticals
AoBA - very slow, no criticals (at least not consistant), always lands.
On me, I am killing almost 1/3 again faster w/ dagger and focus than my battle axe. I am taking a lot less damage as a result and my focus sa helps alot in kill speed. The health SA just gave me more time to die but in PvE, your drain can keep you right up there with HP and you don't have to use it as much since you do kill faster.
For my part I also found that mobs with magic atks are a good start, and I lean toward Tall heavy with a kesh*kesh.
Don't have as much mana sure...BUT you can still run a full buff cycle and have enough left for several drains etc....the key I found was not to be so dependent on dots and debuffs.
An OL doesn't do bad dmg...and with the 8% atk speed on the tall and the 8% atk speed on the duals he swings plenty fast. Use your remaining mana just to drain when you absolutely have to, and always use BSpS for the max life return.
I find I can go pretty fast at lvl 70 that way hitting green/light blue mobs.
Obviously if you have an SE/WC to give you the buffs you're missing it's even better.
well i got a SOM that i borrowed, im looking for a solo weapon :p
so i guess i should try a dagger. if i can get A grade.. would it be better to have a +3 a grade dagger without SA then a B grade with SA ?? im clueless when it comes to daggers really hehe
when i do groiup with my clan ... they are all 12 lvls higher :P so i just pick up the SOM and sleep adds and try to get in some hits hehe
Lol, get used to the life of an overlord. I mainly leveled in groups untill 72 when all the people who were lower level, less active and so on had passed me and were subclassing. From then on I mostly soloed.
I've tried a focus sword (good for higher lvl mobs nice crits), ++ AOBA (VERY slow for PvE due to lack of crits), Focus duals (nice atk power and crits, no shield can be a disadvantage depending on if you use bless shield or not) and a focus Dagger (uses lots of SS, DPS is nice and kills fast on same lvl or lower lvl mobs) and haste duals (not too keen on those. I'd recommend the duals or dagger if you hunt low evasion mobs, they're definately the best DPS, Focus Sword for mobs with decent evasion.
That's totally PvE though , PVP acumen 1 hand mage blunt all the way.
Gone through the grind of the OL, now to relax on my necromancer and get 4-5 levels a day. :)
k so... if i would be getting a dagger what should i get ? a bloody orchid ? would it still be worth it if getting the SA will take a while >??? since the stupid crystals cost like.. 90 mill :/
right now my set up is BW heavy, +4 dama's for max patk +4 str -4 con and +2 dex -2 con. I solo apostate on medusas with vr2 and my current buffs just fine. I used a +6 kris focus in my B grade and did ok but found sls/tsu duals to be a better option.
what about armor i think weve seen that daggers are about voted best for soloing Ol but what about Blue Wolf Vs. Avadon robes or heavy armor as a whole which is more worth while. Also what is the best pvp method for an ol to take sleep drain sleep drain or aoe or swing away with soul gaurd????
I loved my avadon robes, but I was mostly grouped by then. I had a BW heavy, but my mana was down so low, it was used mostly for just buffs...
In PvP - your sleep is NOT that good. I can tell you it is dis-heartining when you see a nuker sleep you almost non-stop and yours lands very few times. Drain is a much better investment in your mana and it always works, both for your benefit and their being hurt.
Your Seals debuffs actually can help you more. Both Winter and suspension are the bomb. If you can get root and silence to land, well you pretty much own.
Soul shield is hugh in battle.
The problem with all of this is mana managment. You can't do it all. If they look to be higher level than you and you are 1v1 to 1v3, then your winter and suspend will help more. Drain drain drain and soul guard. If you are in a bigger grouping, I always lead w/ silence and root. I may or may not die but it will help your team out alot.
The rest of the seals are almost worthless. Sometimes I like posion and fire seal, just to give the enemy something else to worry about, but I need to be at least 3/4 of my mana before I will waste it on those.
I still vote tall heavy w/ kesh*kesh for soloing...it's ugly as sin though >.<
and DC robes w/ a BotMT-accumen for groups....
maj is nice, but I like the slightly lower chance to cancel for dotting and draining and such...
Initially I went with NM robes/NM Heavy..since it looks bad to the bone, and only needed one helm w/ an Elysian - Health...but as has been noted a health weapon is rather slow for lvling with =/
Base tattoos are +4 wit -4 men, all Orc mystics should use this setup as it gives invaluable boosts for PvE and PvP.
For PvE I use a bloody orchid (trying to get focus on it, but works fine without) and DC light. I've tried heavy armors and mana regen is too slow. Orc mystics get MP regen boost passive with light armor so it's been my choice since C grade. DC light gives atk speed and power boost also which is really nice for killspeed, also you can keep the helm for the pvp setup. ;)
As far as group PvE is concerned robes are best as you have more MP for soulcry and buffs/crowd control, Dagger is also choice here as soulcry gives a fixed p.atk boost so the benefit of using it with a a dagger is greatest (1k p.atk with a +0 BO). Also use +4 str -4 con for PvE as it increases killspeed and gives a more significant boost than dex, you will want to change these later on for pvp though. For ggroups where alot of crowd control is needed or where I wish to use soulcry more I wear majestic robes for the MP and MP regen boosts, but DC is best for PvP and can share the helm with the light set so if you can only afford 1 get DC.
For PvP I Use DC robes and a high M.atk acumen weapon, most preferably blunt although stun < M.atk. The higher your M.atk the more damage you do with Drains, the less MP you need to kill people and the more HP you get back off your nukes. When I came back to the game after a drunken quit enchant spree I chose an SOM as my weapon, this is due to the reasonable crit rate as it is a sword, making it ok for PvE and the high M.atk / Acumen, I do miss stun alot for PvP but can wait for C5 to get a new weapon.
Dyes of choice for PvP are +4 Con -4 Str and either an extra +1 wit -1 men or +4 dex -4 str. With the changes to drain in C5 though it might be neccessary to melee the target in PvP meaning -8 STR might not be the best setup (although soulcry will make up for it). PvP tactics depend totally on the situation, if mobs are around you can't use seals as you pull aggro, and Physical damage class you should use soul guard and drain to death (not tanks for the most part tho), Nukers stun / suspension / silence / drain. Group PVP is mostly CP healing and maybe some Debuffs if you can get in without dying. Another fun thing in PVP is to pop soulguard and run in debuffing with a healer spam healing you.... be the tank. ;)
I think I've tried almost every type of gear combo available and this is what I found best.
Thanks for the info Tha_don very very helpfull i'll try to follow this but i'm on limited funds so i'll do what i can with what i have thanks alot and i've got a great clan/alliance right now but they are all much higher lvl so i'm trying to play some catchup.
