Typical - I have simpithy for the euro as should never had to have played the game under such bad conditions. But think NC should give all the east coast on Teon free transfers to any servers they want other then Franz just to be fare.
After all ping is the number 1 reason why people pick the server they are on. Its not really fare to start moving servers around after people set up shop and pay monthly subs for over a year to have there server one day sent to oblivion.
Oh its not that i would have to move but some americans work 1st, 2nd, 3rd shift jobs so the Teon server with better ping over half the NA servers looks very appealing with its seige times for those who work odd time jobs. And when i first started the Teon server has better drop rates, im not sure now what drop rates is but was then. I also moved off Teon but have 2 friends there now that im sure are worry about there ping. It was the first thing i thought was there screwed. I am Gustin now and Teon is still 4 ping lower then my current server as i live on east coast.
Bartz is over 100 ping to me and some others and Gustin is 39 ping and teon is 34 ping so is why NA players are choosing your euro server over NA servers hope that helps you understand the whys we pick a server.
But why on earth would you as an american move to a EUROPEAN server when there are 8 US servers.
And jeez, we've had to play on pings to the US through all this time.
Some people are looking for a fresh start. A "new" server is ususally the way people do that. And many people are blind to even knowing what it means to know your ping rate.
Um im in the UK and the ping for ALL servers is always above 120ping. Now teon has the lowest but most players for some rreason but bartz when at full has a ping of around 245.

HOPE THAT HELPS:
east coast: ping 140
west coast ping 190
:)
teon and franz for europe! good move ncsoft, thanks!
Server ping times was never a consideration when I started playing L2. They're all either 120 or around the 200 mark. This makes little difference in L2. I confess that it would make a difference in a fast moving FPS but not in L2. I suspect you will be fine.
If not, I'll leave you with the standard line that all Euros get when they express concerns about US servers, REROLL ON A DIFFERENT SERVER.

lol poor you. I get 300-400 ping to NA servers, usually it's around 320.
Before anyone claims it's my own fault for having a sucky net connection, I get 40-60 ping to UK, german, and scandinavian game servers.
He never said anything about flying. He only said, they got tickets for the concord :)
Maybe they ship the servers with some boat that is named Concorde ? ;)

There is one thing that puzzles me... There is gonna be a four hour down time.
How on earth are you gonna make it away from America and across the sea and in to Germany and put the server up.
In only 4 hours...
What? A swallow carrying a L2 server? It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a twenty pound server!
They won't move the server, just the data base. They don't need to do it phisycally. In couple hours it should be done, but the 2 hours extra is for caution.

:) Like he said, with a private concorde they can make it in 4 hours maybe... just drop the server with a parachute, let them pickup by some technicans and go online...
A little hint, ever heard of copying data over the internet... shouldnt take that long with the bandwith available from NCSoft :)

hahaha! man i should go back to sleep; thanks for clearing that up ... it dident even enter my mind :p
The irony is that I wouldn't put this past you guys. Either that or shutting Teon for a month while you UPS it. :p
Mr Rust.. Slight problem.. Concorde does not fly any longer.. :D
Rust was joking. You did know that.
Obviously, they bought new server hardware and installed it in Europe. Instead of starting Franz on it, they are moving Teon to it now. The old Teon hardware will then be shipped to Europe, and Franz will be started on that hardware.
This gives the two European servers lower ping for the players in Europe. Makes sense.
But why on earth would you as an american move to a EUROPEAN server when there are 8 US servers.
And jeez, we've had to play on pings to the US through all this time.
It's already been covered to a large degree, and trust me...I don't mind playing on a server that's actually physically in Europe...I see pings somewheres between 31-45 most days on these servers, and when I've been on Euro game servers in the past I usually hit at about 70-90...game play is exactly the same.
That said though I really do wish they would start a new US server....
I like Lionna well enough...it's been my home since the day of it's creation, at which point I abandoned my little nuker on Bartz...but a fresh start with some fresh faces would be nice.
There are still new players coming into the game all the time, and they are missing out on a fantastic experience by not starting on a clean server...most people couldn't play without shot to save their lives...and I would imagine the concept of crafting dual revo after dual revo to break them down and buy middling C grade from the Lux shop is something that no one else even remembers.
There are a lot of things that will be different with a new server today of course...you have Mammon for one, and a more sophisticated farmer community, and very experienced players that will make the transfer and all of that.
The appeal of the new server though is just that, it doesn't have anything to do with where it's located at or what time the sieges are, or even what it's pinging at....if you're at 100+ get business class cable and quit whining....it has to do with a fresh start away from all the drama commonly associated with your current circle.
Well in most MMORPGs its not that of a problem if ping times are 50ms or 200ms... but especially in L2 which uses the unreal engine as well as a 100% synchronisation model regarding movement and combat, it is definetaly a big plus if latency is lower... (even 50ms...) ! Also the probability of disconnects, provider lags etc. will be lower as the amount of hops will now be greatly reduced :) !
???? Dumb Question... Are we talking about the ping numbers at the server selection screen? I am always above 1000 sometimes 2000. I have had as high as 4000.
Mine ping times is 300-800ms and I got 3Mbit/s connection...also on school where they got 100Mbit line I regulary got 250-700ms. I hope the ping will go down to 30-60ms when they move it to Europe.

Actually, the number of hops has little to with where the server is physically located. I traced my connection to one of the game (L2 or L1, I don't remember which) servers a couple of years ago and found that after the packet left my ISPs switches it got routed to a French ISP (.fr domain) and then back to California before it hit the firewall on NCNA's servers. Oh and I live on the east coast.

You say ping does not matter its not a fps and its on our fault we should get better internet service. Hmm?
Answer this question then - why is the Teon server moving to the UK ?
Hehe if its not for ping i'm just dieing to hear what you gots to say!
Remember i'm not on Teon so it matters not to me its just another forum topic so nothing personal either way, but it should be fun to watch you try and squirm out of this one. Maybe make a few more concord jokes...

o.O did I say ping does not matter ? Cos it's me you replied to....
Why would anyone ship an entire server like that and expect it to be up within 4 hours.
heres the most logical situation.
NCSoft has a provider already all setup, lineage2 C4 installed and running on a server. All it needs is a net connection full established, ip configured, and the entire Database of players transferred and initialized.
So, within 4 hours, all of that would have happened.
now the orginal teon server is most likely being shipped and due to be all setup with c5 loaded and dubbed franz...
course maybe they plan on keeping orginal teon server around for kicks and make it the non-pvp ++drop rate server ?
Ping 28 for Teon. Very nice indeed, I am sorely tempted now.
Ps. I doubt that they will transport the physical server to Europe. To expensive to dfo so. I am wondering though what they will do wth the old Teon server. Scrap it? Use it to update an older server? The PTS perhaps? Use it for a new US based server? Events perhaps?
Or let another department have it for one of NCSofts other games?
They're using DTAG's infrastructure in Frankfurt, it seems. Strangely, Teon's IP (206.127.145.162) is still assigned to an ARIN network (NCINT/NET-206-127-144-0-1), not RIPE like you'd assume for an EU server to be. I'll check with RIPE if it's OK to do so, I guess. :)
I know why they lagged so badly with moving servers to Europe.
They had ticket for Concorde first class at that time. But those hamsters in servers were considered suspicious and possible terrorists. Took them two years to replace hamsters running the servers for new ones, that seem to be clean and security approved from US security forces and Air Franz errr France.

Ship it over to germany instead of buying a new one over there. Turn it into Franz
To much hassle and a good possibility that the servers get damaged on the way overseas. Not ot mention the necesary adaptation of the servers with different transformers to adapt them to European power supply. Probably cheaper to get a new one in Germany.
Heh, that's just 1.7km south of my company's data centre, in the "Bürostadt" ("Office City"; new commercial city district between the older Niederrad and Schwanheim). Good place, it's only some 7km to the airport, and you don't have to drive through the whole of Frankfurt to get the work place - it's directly by one of the bigger motorways, the A5. On the other hand, I somehow pity the technicans - they have literally nowhere to go in their breaks, it's all just lots of office space all around them.
The coordinates are 50.081577°N, 8.623471°E (50°04'54"N, 8°37'25"E) if you're trying to find it in Google Earth or similar.

there is on almost every single computer/server i've ever come across a dip switch on the psu of a machine that allows for both 115v/220v modes. The most work you'd need to do is get a euro power cable and push the switch over.
