At I'm only level 10 but planning on going a melee centric Warcryer in heavy armor. SOLO almost all the time.
I like the idea of having a big whopping Two Handed Sword as a weapon. SO I've been eyeing a Zwheinder(afaik its the best NG 2hnder)...but it costs alot and I don't have money coming out of my rear.
SO
I know they are great on Orc Fighter types. How about on Orc Mystics-Shaman-Warcryer?
(this site really needs class/subclass specific forums)
edit--or should I stick with what I'm currently doing which is 1handed/shield.
The path of heavy armor and a strong melee weapon using drains to gain back your HP is one of many a WC can take. But have in mind 2 things:
1) drains are going to be 30% more expensive in mana with C5.
2) Since WC are mystics, in order to do descent damage, you need to have your buffs. But that also costs in mana.
These 2 facts may lead you to find yourself all the time low on mana and having to sit down to regenerate it. Additionaly, a blunt weapon can be usefull since you can use it for stunning attacks.
at his lvl pvp isnt important, and stun is useless in terms of killspeed and mana efficiency at his lvl in pve.
i have solod my overlord to 56 and downtime only started after B grade lvl because i was undergeared. and regen is high enough to buff yourself, drain to keep high enough hp, and mana will still regen faster so that you can rebuff after they run out. specially at lower lvls since you only have a few buffs to trow around
BUt i dont know what weapon you should use :p personally i used duel swords for D grade and... not to sure about C probebly duels again or maybe a 2 hander. you just need to hurt :P
ZZvicezz obviously is interested in going WC. They are played differently than OL since they have ranged attacking spells. Stun can be important because when it lands, you cast spells without getting interrupted and at the same time you can let DOTs work.

You mean all this with heavy armor? I think that most high level OL's I see wear robes.
And one thing last. You are aware of C5, right? Mystics will get penalties for using duals. Don't give advices that may cause problems to other players.

The penalty is only for Polearm and bows.
L2guru (29/5) wrote of dual swords as well. Have you any newer link?
I thought this too, but if you go with a blunt w/ health sa, you kill extremely slow, even greens. It is like chopping down a large tree. With the focus sa on a dagger, you kill a lot quicker that you won't need the health sa at all. That sa is most useful in PvP.
If you feel that you are taking too much damage, then using Heavy Armor would be better.
Note: only at level 64 right now and so I can only speak for what is working for me now.
pre 40 blunt and 1h sword deal about the same dmg.. crits and acc make it close. No SA's at this point don't worry about it. 2h sword has a bit more dps and higher m atk for drains but u will take a bit more dmg. that choice is really in the eyes of whoever is playing. Stun doesn't help you lvl but can get u out of some nasty situtations if ur in heavy
40+ 1h sword or 2h sword is best for pve dps. becuase the crit buffs start appearing maiking crit weaps better. However the accuracy buff is late. If you chose a dagger at this point be prepared to miss every 3rd time or so. This is why I don't reccomend dagger pre 52.
52+ by this time you should know what you want but here is a breakdown
blunt w/ acu = pvp or pve support (big groups)
Blunt w/health viable replacement for the acu
2h sword/ 1h sword = best balance of DPS, support
Dagger=melee DPS
Here what I wore. In No grade I upgraded to devotion robe set (+15% cast speed) and a mage wearpon. I used dot+1 smak style. It wasnt too slow and was cheap. I didnt had to use sps for the dots to land with wearpon i got from the adena drops.
In D grade and just after getting to C i wore heavy and a blunt. Even so I almost never used the stun. When I upgraded to berserc blade+focus (twohander) it was great. Nothing like 2-3 hitting mobs which took me 5 hits to kill before.
Now In B grade I also wear a twohanded with focus. Duals just look ugly on female shamans, and dager is way more expencive. For armro I have both heavy and robe which I change acording to situation.
I also whant to get A grade mage blunt +acu in C5, but that's for pvp mostly.
until you get stun there is no point in using a blunt. in C5 though, there will be 2handed blunts, but stun is generally a waste of mp. attack mobs until your hp is low then switch to a mystic weapon for drains then switch back to high DPS weapon (duals of 2handed) to attack again. for your mystic weapon, if you're going to solo, dont get something with acumen, its not going to matter how slowly you drain mobs since you will be using drain to start the fight, not finish it. get something that has a high m att, doing more damage will allow you to solo longer. you dont really need a seperate mystic weapon until after level 40, just having a melee weapon works just fine. also, dont cast all your buffs if you can help it. they cost a lot of mp, and if you are fighting only magic mobs for example, you dont need shield.
I did sword type weapons the entire way, with heavy armor, to 52
Granted, i funded my equip with a few events and previous low-ish characters so i had top equip until B grade
D grade was 107's with brig armor, C grade was full plate armor (with D grade helm, feet and gloves) and raid*spirit+4 (focus) and i rarely sat for mp. I think i sat a total of 5 times going from 20 to 52 to regen mp
Granted, i used SS most of the time, and did manor, but orc mystic mp regen is great anyways (just keep a NG robe set around for regening mp when you sit, makes it go alot faster)
As for playstyle, i opened fights (if needed) with drain, then melee'ed them down, buffs i used was chant of battle, fury, rage, vampire (key chant) soul shield the single target pdef buff (much cheaper than a chant)
didnt see much use in eagle or evasion, as we got so low evasion anyways it wasnt a big change, and i was fighting green mobs the entire way so accuracy was no big deal
At 52 (well, 55) i switched to tsu*sls+4 (focus) and avadon robes for the cast speed, but this is mainy because we are in a big clan war. Not that it helps much, all the ppl ganking us are 65+ and with full A grade so my drains does piss poor damage and i die fast.
In hindsight id propably go for plated leather or something, for pve if you team alot, and avadon robes or bw light and a club of nature with acumen for pvp. 2handed sword and duals isnt much difference though,
BW heavy + str and dex tats (and wit) with dama(focus) and a shield for solo pve propably
It doesnt make too much difference really, our biggest strength is the drain anyways (which gets a major nerf in c5...)
Just dont go blunt once you have most of your buffs, it gets zero benefit from predator and rage, and you got eagle anyways to sort out the lack of accuracy with swords.
Your patk is weak as hell so you need to maximise it
Im a 62 WC now
Will propably swap to a 1h mage blunt in C5 (the new b or a grade ones) and slap an acumen on, and keep the avadon robes, then be mainly a support class and not a dmg dealing buffer, since our sleep is the best sleep in c5
