Can you apply all life aspects to a game

This is a kind of weird topic I know but a friend of mine and their family all run a clan and its a pretty good one. They think you can apply all the aspects of life to a game and I am wanting to know what you guys think about this.
ah?
I would like to be the first person to give a real life answer to that and not an "ah?"
Being someone (Military) who has been in RL lets call it pvp in the Deserts of IRAQ, there is so many aspects from that learning exp. that I bring to game. Such as, How I run my clan and Deal with situations that can determan life or Death of fellow clan mates. And stragities I use for in game pvp, Raids and Seiges. I myself try to be in game how I am in real life with Values and Honor when dealing with people. Also the buy sell part of the game can be used very effectively by anyone who has worked in RL with Sales and or being a plain out Con artest(met a couple of those.)
Every Desicion you make in game goes off of your real life experiances if you think about it. Everything from who you pvp, to who you lose money on an item to, becuase you can somehow relate to whatever there telling you they need the item for... Think about it.. RPG you play a char. in a game... that is determained by your real life exp.
well.. at least thats my take on it...maybe I spent too long in that desert.
not if some one RP witch a lot do
so you saying when someone chooise a orc he/she have some (xp) in real life witch someone takes a dwarf yeah sure
many take the path to the right some to left just have to do change and desision nothing more :)
wow that.. didnt make sence atall did it :/

if you think that people pick orc because they know an orc IRL, ...duh/ but its possible that they would pick a class because it fits their way of thinking.

But even if someone is RP'ing they still draw on their own lives and experiences in order to flesh out their characters. So they may not be playing themselves specificially but they are including aspects of themselves because you cannot convincingly play that which you do not know or have not seen.

People can pick classes based on how they think, how the class moves, what skills they have. :p
you try to say when someone player 1 takes a class lets say a WL while player 2 takes a other class X that people with class X have a same sort of life xp's shared then people that plays class 1 i dont think so
i know a lot of people that are not them selfs online sinds they play a toon witch are not their true nature like a sort of balance why do you think a lot of Female toons running around,1 someone says i need to look at it for hours
the other dude says whatever,3 guy says something
but it all comes down to change and desision's ->desisions are made by people,, change by fate
RP aside, a lot of RL ideas can be applied to the game. The economics of the market, whether a clan is communistic, republican, or tribal, military strategies used during pvp, raids and sieges, moral or amoral codes of conduct. Lots of concepts that apply to every day life apply in the game also.
Ive always seen someones PvP style as quite a good give away for what they are like in rl. Just reading movements, different actions and reactions to events gives me a half decent picture of what they are like. So if i ever had to PvP with that person i could relate his personality to someone i know in real life and try to formulate a plan for there down fall.
To make it short...

Remember this is a game! If you want to go play RL then go play RL :p . Don't waste your time trying to bring RL into a game. If you wanna gain Exp in RL keep it in RL. Many people play games to try to escape from RL and don't want to make the game their life.

Play the game how you have fun. If bringing RL stuff into it will make it less fun and just like normal ol' life then maybe you shouldn't.

I guess what I am trying to say is thus:

By bringing RL into a video game the video game slowly become RL. You don't want that!
No, what I'm saying doesn't have anything to do with what class or race someone picks. It's more to do with how they act in game. It is impossible to act completely and totally unlike yourself. You can be wildly different but there will still be something of yourself in it. Usually when someone is acting a role, they will be emulating something they've seen and related to in some way.
Nothing is in a vacuum. Whether you are roleplaying (which is essentially a form of acting which you DO try to utilize some sort of real life experiences in order to animate your character/role) or not, everything you have experienced will help you make decisions in game.

Whether you conduct your character like you conduct your own life or not, you still need something to work off of.

Whether you want to run your clan like you run your life is one's own decison.

I personally do conduct myself in game (within the parameters of the game as my own life does not call upon me to attack people - which I obviously do in this game) as I conduct myself in life.

Whatever role you play in this game, in the end you are a player and therfore a person.

If I were to continually pk some low lvl player and it was to cause them real grief I would just stop. Sure, perhaps they shouldn't be playing a game where one's character is at the mercy of any high lvl player that passes by, but in the end I believe in the "good" of things and would let them be.

I might give advice to the effect that they shouldn't be playing a game like this, but I am a strong believer in trying to give people their due. I don't really feel the need to call people names or grief people "just because I can" and to hell with them".

I would play the game and be mindful of the people I am interacting with. If some 14 year old kid is playing this game and it is just too much for them, I can be an adult, give them friendly advice and let them be.

I really believe, that in the end, you are either for a greater good or not. At some point, you have to be a decent person. Or.. not.
belive it or not
but a good player is not him self in a game like Bahamut2Lineage says in short like i do in long
becose someone PK a player dont make him a murder in RL
who know it might be the sweetest person on west side
I think I get the point of the question....in short, do the sorts of things that 'work' in RL also generate success in the game?

Well, rather obviously, I would think.

I take the game from a different perspective though. The game, since it ISN'T REAL, is an opportunity to be DIFFERENT than RL.
Why not try out being a tyrant (character trait not the character)? Why not spend money like water on the frivolous? Test drive being unfriendly? Where else can you take a risk buying something for a hundred thousand in currency on the chance to make 150k and shrug off a bad outcome? Run into some place you're not supposed to be, get killed through stupidity, and respawn in town a bit wiser than you were? Lmao.

Perhaps that's the secret all those RP folks know that I haven't discovered in the game yet.

Since this is not RL--it seems like a wide-open playground to me where I can be things and try things that are less possible in RL.

Just a thought..........

All that being said, do social skills count in a game that is foundationally social/community based? Of course they do.
It seems reasonable that many skills and attributes that 'work' in RL would generate rather more success than otherwise in a game requiring extensive socialization.
You can and should bring your real life principles with you, because how you act in game reflects on you as a person in real life (although not, obviously, in a one to one ratio, as some people who would rather not think about what they're doing keep mention mockingly).

Everything? No. Many things? Yes.
then this players are playing the wrong kind of game

Well of course he is right in that most of us (and I would really hope all of us but.. well.. whatever) would not be going around killing people here and there just because they stepped to the head of a line in the market.

But there always does (in my opinion) have to be a check to make sure that you are playing a game and that at some point you might need to put the time out clock on.

Like in football.. someone gets injured, you don't just run him over.

Like this one time. in game .. oh so long ago, that this kid, 12 years old, got scammed out of his weapon because some guy started a clan, invited him, convinced the kid to give him his weapon and then dropped the kid.

This kid was beside himself. Couldn't even pay attention to what I and another player was saying because he was so shaken up. kept going out of the gludio gate to look for this other player, then he would come back.

All for a "Handmade Sword" (which I had never heard of but since learned you can get it in Light Elf Village).

Could have been a scam on us but i don't believe so. The time we took with this kid was much longer than I would think any scammer would want to spend.

In the end, I gave him a weapon and the other guy loaned him a weapon. And the kid actually returned the loaned weapon a few days later, I check up on that one.

We both spent considerable time trying to help him and "talking him down" so to speak.

Now... should this 12 year old be playing L2? Probably not. And I could have just left him to his misery.

But, I'm a Adult. And even though this is "cyberspace" I feel that when adults see children in trouble they should help. Sure, his parents should have had a greater hand in this. Especially if their child is emotional and might not do well in a game like this.

I know that there are people who would disagree and would just have the kid learn the lessons the hard way but that's really not to my beliefs.

And like hell if I'm going to abandon my core beliefs for a video game. Otherwise they really weren't very solid beliefs to my thinking.
I think maybe you're missing what I'm getting at. I'm not speaking in literal terms of in-game actions equating to real-life actions but general overall personality and conduct. As someone else said, nothing exists in a vacuum so some part of yourself goes into your characters no matter if you play a tyrant or a goody-two-shoes or something in between.

After all your actions have to come from somewhere and if not from you then where?
lineage is a game
Yes, and how you act in a game probably reflects more closely on your personality than how you act in real life, where you have to worry about repercussions if you act out of line, does.

If you decide to PK someone, that is yours, that is, the player's decision to value 10 seconds of your entertainment over the maybe 10-20 minutes the player needs to get back to their spot and of course the other time spent for them to try to get the experience lost (which varies, of course, depending on the level) back.

This is fine. It doesn't make you a murderer, nor a criminal. It just makes you someone who thinks 10 seconds of their own time are more important than a few hour's of someone else's - or someone who's so thoughtless that he didn't even get that far.

The same goes for me, it certainly reflects on me as a person that I try to squeeze any ebayer I deal with in Giran for the last adena I can get. "My time is more important to me than your real life cash, if you're going to spend it this way." That's not nice, but that's how I see it, and that's me.

If you think that your game actions have nothing to do with your real life, it shows yet another thing about you, whether it happens in a playing field or not.

While I'm sure you can apply all aspects of life to L2 I prefer to keep it a game. I have my good chars and bad chars. When I feel lousy I go on a pk spree.
