few of my clannies were just asking me the last few days about trial codes since they want to get their roommates/gfs etc intrested in the game and c5 with free armour from a clan and free weapons till October 1st this would be a great time for this.
it is nice that you finaly give out buddy codes but i honestly dont see why you limit them to the clan leaders
Whenever I've had my friends to try out L2, they've always felt the entire game revolved around killing keltirs for the next level, then killing wolves, then orcs, and so on.
With clan leaders giving out buddy codes I assume the idea is to involve new players into the politics and high end gameplay which is the real meat of L2.
uhm how do you involve a new player in the high end gameplay? i still dont get the point of limiting it like this. if your friends dont like the grind, its their loss. but to give out buddycodes to more people then clan leaders would bring more players to the game and i for one would love to see alot of new players invade the game.
When I said "involving" them I was thinking of them being involved with a clan and not just soloing keltirs with noone to talk to for 4 hours before logging off and uninstalling the game.
That's what I have such a hard time getting across to the people I've made play, to try and give them an idea of castle sieges, clans, alliances, high end skills (anything beyond power strike and mortal blow), and things like that.
I'm not saying a clan should be holding their hand and be newbie guides, but being in dialogue with a group of people who's thoroughly integrated into the game and it's politics is a lot better than starting off all alone and thinking level 75 is soloing Greater Diseased Keltirs with a Long Sword and Greater Power Strike.
I think it's a very good idea.
This way you make sure, that new players get a coach in form of an experienced clanleader and can be pushed in the right direction, so that they don't choose a toon unfitting for their playstyle.
7 days is a good timespan, give the newbies some nice equipment from clan (it's your buddies after all, right?) let them hunt a bit, so they can get used to the game, then powerlvl them to lvl 20 in a day or so.
Then they have 6 days to experience raids an catas and all that.
Should be enough to hook them up ;)
- Do this trial account expire and will be deleted, so you should buy brand new if you want to play?
- Can you after end of free trial just pay monthly fee to continue use this account or you will need to buy serial number (like whole game?)
Is this promo is just like was one before with buddy codes?
Yes, they'll know if you keep them for yourself and bot them ;-p
Don't be stupid. I am asking because if they're linked to our accounts I certainly wouldn't want to use them because I don't have any idea where people will eventually go and do, since we're restarting on a new server there's no garantee we won't be joining another clan or they won't
But just for that comment I am going to make a little smile if its true, you pass out a trial code and 6 month down the line one of your friends does a bad thing and you get banned too. And don't tell me we can automatically *know* what the intent of the people playing are going to end up being.

I was not being stupid. Hence the wink.
And you had seen it, hence your second paragraph.
It'd be fun. You ask a trial code to a pal and you bot the toon to have him banned, lol
How can you think of such a thing? Why would the buddy codes be tied to your account?
Err lemme think.. For The Sake oF DOomsday bot posts ?
Technically they'll have traces of which code is sent to which account.
It's not that of a dumb question.
Could we be held responsible for what the new players will do of these codes ;)
How many buddy codes do clan leaders get? Do they have experation dates?
I'm not sure on these questions -- I'll try to get more details.
I gotta ask though, are these accounts going to be linked to ours in any way? and are they usable for anyone?
Anyone who the leader gives a code to will have their own PlayNC/Lineage II accounts, not linked to yours. These codes are for new accounts only (as in, you can't use it to add 7 days to an old account you have).
How exactly does the 7 day free trial work. Is it 7 days of free gameplay, then they have to buy the game? Is it 7 days of free gameplay, then they have to start paying the monthly fee?
From what I understand, these codes will not require your friends to buy the game. However, your friends will have to activate the code with a credit card or a Game Time Card in order to start playing. Activating the code doesn't mean that they're immediately on recurring billing; they can make sure that option isn't selected.
Do this trial account expire and will be deleted, so you should buy brand new if you want to play?
The trial game account won't expire/be deleted. Like I said above, I'm not sure on the expiration date on the code itself, and I'll try to find that out. :)

Ok, thats good. I just know how this game can go and if I give out these trial accounts to people I know less well, I really have no control over what they'll do with it and I certainly do not want to put my accounts in jepardy simply because someone else decided to be a bad boy at my expense :/
I quite literally want it so that once someone else uses the account and they in a haze decides to break every EULA, TOS and Forum Rule NCSoft has the day after (and get banz0red), it still won't have anything to do with me.
Also, another important question, these trialcodes, since the clan leader will know them, will it enable him to recall the accounts (by using the code and other info they've gathered, akin to CDKey) or will the trial code be used to generate a CDKey that the clan leader doesn't know about.

As fars as you don't share credit card, real life name, e-mail address and IP you can sleep well - they are absolutely unrelated.
Othet than that - take a look at EULA in the part mentioning these data collisions in accound termination section.

As soon as any code (game code, trial code, time card code) is used once, it's becoming invalid. Newly created userID in conjunction to unique game-ID are not disclosured to you as code "buyer". You don't know them and you don't have any control over userID created through "your" codes.
So you won't be able to recall the account.
PlayNC account ID is created manually by third person.
Game account name is selected by the owner of PlayNC account (that is, your buddy).
Unique game-ID code is generalted automaticaly upon game account creation and sent via e-mail to your buddy only. It's not disclosured to anyone else and not stored anywhere in your account information.
Serial codes are only one of several pieces of verification information required when contacting customer support. A person with knowledge of only the code won't be able to gain unauthorized access to the account.
Ok, just wanted to know if these were in any way linked. Like Account XXX has codes YYY and ZZZ.
And well, you can use the CDKey along with a few person info about the person to recall an account (not an uncommon scam). I was just wondering if trial key is the same as CDKey.
As i think this is a great idea i would still whant to give a suggestion...
When C5 hits a new server opens as we all know and this is a great oppertunity to bring in newblood to the game as they would get a fresh start with alot of people at the same level.
I would think that you should be able to give a new players to trie it out and not only people with a clan lvl 5 as i see it very unlikley that there will be many lvl 4 - 5 clans on Franz when this happends.
Make a free trail on Franz for people that have never played the game. Put it on Fileplanet and alot of new people will come...
That was just my 2 cents...
Well, the trial keys will work on all servers, so a level 5 clan going to Franz would have keys.
I dident say any diffrent...
Just pointed out that alot of people would trie out lineage2 if it were a trail that dident involve a lvl 4 clan and the trial started from Day 1 on Franz.
Wait so you get 7 days free of charge and if you wish to continue playing on that account you must pay the full cost of the game and add a cc or a GC right?
I think the better idea would be to give free 2 week trials to players when C5 launches that expires on the 20th of September. People will flock to play the game especially on Franz and it will almost be like the game was rereleased at C5 for Franz. Lineage 2 is the biggest MMORPG I know that hasn't given a public free trial.

no
all you pay for is the monthly fee period its like you get the game for free. If this doesnt bring in a lot of brand new people i dont know what will.
Mistryl can i suggest you showcase the L2 movie contest winning video (destiny's call) with the game codes so new people can see what the game is all about. Nothing shows off the game as it should be then that video it truly is outstanding. One my irl friends wants to play this game when he gets back from the military because of that video (WoW refugee lol) First question he asked was if they were actual in game footage, im like everything you see is all ingame footage and he was floored by the huge battles the raid bosses and massive amount of carnage.

You know... i just had to watch that again because you mentioned it. Really good stuff.

buddy keys should all have a set expiration date. i see plently of unmentionable clans with certainly pop up on the 12 so they can stockpile 7 days of not paying.
Great I have 5 friends all interested in playing L2, but not wanting to fork over money before they have a real trial. Oh wait I am not a CL :(
lvl is really easy to achieve.
You only need a few mils XP and the desire to run around.
I've made it with with a friend and only 4 toons.
And now we're only 1 gravekeeper away from level5. But fot that one we'll need to be a bit more than 4 lol.
...... but to give out buddycodes to more people then clan leaders would bring more players to the game and i for one would love to see alot of new players invade the game.
Oh god plz no .. i still remeber the days when they emailed to all players a buddy code for 30 days free play.
What happened ? 30 days awesom lags, many bots and giran wasnt big enough for sell/buy shops

I guess you're talking about an alt clan, since you have only 4 members. But if you know an untagged stormscreamer or another 3rd class nuker that would be willing to help, you can take out the gravekeeper very easily. It'll be a 1 shot for sure with emp and dance of mystic (at least if they have a SoM or a branch).
Believe it or not, my level 5 quest went surprisingly well, once we hit the gravekeeper.
We got jumpstarted (didn't know how hard he would be, so we were prepping as if he were a raid boss) and one of my members accidentally drew one of his minions from the last time someone had killed him.
Suffice to say, we had a battle on our hands, and we weren't even buffed yet!
I threw Dryad Root to immobilize the gravekeeper while we handled minions and decided "Hey, why not... /useskill Disrupt Undead." One crit later, the gravekeeper was lying in a crumpled heap of distrupted undead, and we were finishing off the minions.
@Olorae: That was it? I mean... really... that was it? I feel cheated.
Play for seven days, and then need a Game Time Card to continue playing. They will not have to pay for the game to try it out. :)
an account that gets openned with one of these codes and then goes dormant will stay in the servers memory for a time card to be bought later FOR HOW LONG?
"Lineage(R) II game accounts require activation with a valid credit card or game time card to play."
I thought somone said that these codes wouldnt require a card to use for 7 days, how are we sposed to talk people into useing these if they have to pay 30 bucks first.
They don't need ot pay a single $ the first 7 days, if they decide to play more, they pay, if they don't htey don't pay.
The require the credit card so they can verify the player, all you need ot do is register, when thats done just deactivete the accont and it won't bill you the 15$ after 7 days.
All emails to clan leaders have been sent. If you didn't update your email address, if you had chosen to opt out of emails from PlayNC, or if your spam filter picked up the email, you might not have received it.
So you only send it if we have not "opt out of email" from NCsoft???
Its a little late tell that.
I have a clan lvl4, I have a verified e-mail, and I had "Not signed up to receive newsletters, beta announcements, game trials or exclusive offers by email" because your earlier note dident say anything about that needing to be active.
Can you please resend the trial codes, I have several friends asking for them.

Thank you very much.
Why? They did exactly what you told them to. Why is this a surprise?
Because I'm not going into my NC master account everyday, the last time I was there was because of all the problems with the resetting of passwords.
So I dident know/remember that I needed to have this option active.
Yes its my fault, but they could at least have given us a reminder.
I really don't think I am the only one who did not activate this function.
Yes its my fault, but they could at least have given us a reminder.
They did when they said they'd be emailing an offer beforehand. If the first thing they said was "we sent the offer an hour ago", I'd have more sympathy. They respected your wish not to receive email offers.
Yes, yes I hear what you say, but as I told you "I'm not going into my NC master account everyday, the last time I was there was because of all the problems with the resetting of passwords."
So I forgot to activate the function.
It's not that I'm mad or angry at NC, because as I'v already has stated it's my own fault, but I truly wish they somehow has the possibility to rend me the trials codes anyway.
I was looking forward to try-out some of the start-game with some of my friends.
The only option is that they need to buy a s/n = $20 + a time card(they have no credit card).
And I don't think they will spend that kind a money on a game, they even don't know if they are going to play it.
So, once more, sry NC, my mistake, but could you please send the trial code. I have ensured that I have the option active in my master account now.
Clan leaders who did not receive the email can contact the Support team through the web site (http://support.lineage2.com) for assistance. (Please don't send in a ticket on behalf of your clan leader -- it has to be the leader herself/himself to send in the message.)
However, if you chose to not receive offers of this nature by opting out of PlayNC emails, the Support team will not be able to assist you in this matter.
NCSoft actually reset that options for many accounts around the release of C4 (Febuary/march 2006) and many wouldn't notice that they had stopped recieving newsletters.
Also, afair, the old wording of that option would make you believe that this was not included under that option as the newer wording now clearly writes.
Not saying that makes it bad, but just adding this to your post.
However, if you chose to not receive offers of this nature by opting out of PlayNC emails, the Support team will not be able to assist you in this matter.
Reading the first post about this great offer, which states nothing about this. Then how should clanleaders know about this??? So if clanleaders went around telling people they could try Lineage 2, not knowing this... then they are just left in the cold...
Either bad first post or support should help them. I'm pretty sure my clanleader didn't have this enabled due to spam problems and I know for a fact we in the clan have told people they could try Lineage 2 with this offer.
So my question... Bad first post with lack of important information or can support help even if the clanleader did not check that option?
Last thing - Where do you check this option? I could not find it under my "Account Details" for Lineage 2.
So my question... Bad first post with lack of important information or can support help even if the clanleader did not check that option?
I do apologize for not including a reminder for anyone who chose not to receive offers by email. Unfortunately, the Support team cannot send trial codes to anyone who chose not to receive them.
Last thing - Where do you check this option? I could not find it under my "Account Details" for Lineage 2.
This option is located in your Contact Info in PlayNC account management. After logging into PlayNC, click "Edit Contact Info" and the check box at the bottom of the page tells you if you are signed up to receive "the PlayNC newsletter, beta announcements, game trials and other exclusive offers".
Then why does it require a timecard or credit card to activate it, what about those people we are referring to the game without credit cards.
The account must be activated with a valid payment option. If your friends do not have credit cards, they will have to use a Game Time Card to activate the trial code. They do not have to purchase the game serial code no matter which option they use to activate the account.
NOW let me whine a little.... need to get rid of some karma here (steam).
..... sometime I just don't know if you want more player to L2 or not????
I'v tried several other BIG mmo games where there are trial periodes/keys and none of them has been as restricted/complicated as this one.
It's kind a sad, because I, personally, really like L2, and I do whatever I can to convince my friends and relatives that they should try out this fine game.
Now I told them it's not possible because of the above little missing "option" active, and they are all like ???? what?
(not everyone think it's ok to spend like $65+ just to try a game... thats S/N + game time card)
.......... don't know what to say..... other then I just don't get the point of all these restrictions on giving out trial codes.... we are talking 7 free days, thats all!!!!
Also A LOT of my clanies has been really angry, that it's only the clan leader of lvl4 clans who get the trial code (if he/she is lucky)???. Several of my clannies has played a lot longer and more loyal then I have, so why do they not get trial codes, why is it restricted???
I'v tried several other BIG mmo games where there are trial periodes/keys and none of them has been as restricted/complicated as this one.
I don't get where you're coming from. I really don't. When I purchased the game I had to go through the EXACT same process that these free codes must go through. I had 30 free days yet I was required to enter either a credit card or time card at the beginning. I honestly don't see where this is any different except they are getting the game FOR FREE.
Well my next question is an easy and simple one, IF I change this option in my plaync account (which by this point I have) Will i have the code re-issued to me by contacting the support staff?
Yes? or no?
on a side note: I checked posts by mystrl on this subject AND the main news and no where does it mention "please make sure you have the recieve emails option checked off in your plaync account" it does say "please make sure your email address is correct".
But if you are used to recieve emails becuase the option was checked months ago and it was suddenly resetted due to a company breach of security. I think a hintful reminder would of been in order. I wouldn't be so upset if this option wasn't reset (because when i first set up the account i had it set) without my prior knowledge.
When we were told to reset our passwords there was no note saying "oh by the way we also reset your newsletter information so dont forget to check that back to"
If you chose to not receive offers from PlayNC, then no code was generated for you by your request. :( The Support team cannot re-send the email to any player who chose not to receive it. Sorry!
Well, most other MMORPGs actually require you to sign in some sort of payment option on a trial, you just won't be charged until the trial is up. Your gametime card just can't be "extracted" so if you don't use a CC, you have to use it.
I do see it as kinda sad that NCSofts system reset many players options, and that the option had to be on wasn't mentioned in the origional offer in the thread, so of course people wouldn't go check and see the new wording since the origional post only says to make sure your email is correct, which you would know if its validated and hasn't changed.

EXACTLY!
If i had been warned ahead of time that if this option wasn't checked I wouldn't recieve NATURALLY i would check. and i would of cause i was banking on this code to give to people who were intersted in c5 and wanted to try it out. Both the forum post AND the main site says "check to make sure you have the correct email address" Which i knew I had seeing as i recieved tickets and such for my account straight to my email.
Never was i warned "Also make sure this option is checked. "
now its like "oh by the way if the option wasn't chekced you don't get one (though we forcefully had it reset because of a security breach on our part that we didn't tell you that we had it reset it) Too bad so sad"
Probably because she didn't think of it and I don't think she was aware that some bug in the system changed peoples options a while back, and I think she assumed that to check your email people would go to their account and see the wording of the option. To err is human.
This was an automated system, I doubt support can just go in and make new ones without alot of work.
Actually the reset happened around febuary/march (I know, because thats when I stopped recieving newsletters on all accounts, I just assumed it was some sort of temporary bug and went on, like did so many others), so its not because of the security breach.

Didn't they say the reset all the passwords because of the security breach and if thats not when they took of the email option why didn't someone say thats what they did?
like a little message, See i just don't like not being informed when something in my account is changed and no one tells me. How often do you go in your plaync account? I would assume not every day. I would say the AVERAGE player maybe goes into the plaync account once every month maybe 3? to input a new time card, but how often do you go to edit your contact information where this option can be found?
Like I mentioned I had this option checked because I DID recieve newsletters and to be honest i hadn't realized they stopped till you mentined they stopped. I had figured they just stopped sending them. With a thousand things happening in one's life a newsletter ranks lowest
As far as I am aware, the option to receive emails from PlayNC was not affected by the password reset.
I apologize again for not including a reminder, but the information is clearly displayed on the Account Management page on PlayNC. There is nothing else I can do to assist anyone who chose not to receive the email. :(
Mine are all still set to "receive emails"... Strange.
I have 2 accounts, and they were also both set to "recieve" emails" cause i like getting news letters... cause they are nice and flashy looking. So to be honest I can't figure out how i don't recieve emails from either account seeing as the last time i actually went in my PlayNc account was when my passwords were reset.
As far as I am aware, the option to receive emails from PlayNC was not affected by the password reset.
I didn't say that it was. I said it happened in Febuary/March. Me and many others stopped recieving newsletters about Lineage 2, back then I just pushed it aside as a bug or something and just read the newsletters on here when someone pointed out something important for Stratics. Then mostly forgot about the issue. (I actually brought it up once or twice on the forum in unrelated threads back then)
but the information is clearly displayed on the Account Management page on PlayNC.
It didn't always say that and heck I didn't think of going there to check either except for the very last day.
I apologize again for not including a reminder
Its ok, it happens. :) It is of course something people can get understandable upset over since these things would cost alot of money to replace, but it would be really hard for you guys to do anything about :(
I don't get where you're coming from. I really don't.
?????..... what does "where I come from" have to do with the way I see trial systems usually work????
Please don't get personally....
I dident say that "none of the other trials I'v tried do need verifications"
I only said "I'v tried several other BIG mmo games where there are trial periodes/keys and none of them has been as restricted/complicated as this one."
The last one I tried was ddo and it was really easy to use, no verifications needed at all, only a ligit e-mail address.
And as a general comment I do agree, lets not blame Mistryl, she is a messanger and not in charge of how things work.
Actually I do appriciate her comments and response, as usually they come quite quick and are written in a neutral words.
Keep up the good job Mistryl.
EDIT : misspelling in Mystril -> Mistryl (sry :) )
I don't get where you're coming from. I really don't.
?????..... what does "where I come from" have to do with the way I see trial systems usually work????

My point was that the trial activation works the same way as a new game purchase. It's not more difficult and doesn't require anything extra. The person still plays for free.
He doesn't play for free if he pays with a game time code, its non-refundable, so you can't get it back if you don't want to continue to play after the trial period.
We've reviewed this situation and discussed it with the Support team, and we will now take requests through the web site (http://support.lineage2.com) to accomodate level 4 and 5 clan leaders (as of 9/12/2006) who had chosen to not receive emails from PlayNC. Please send in a message through the web site with details explaining that you had previously declined email offers and did not receive the codes as a result.
If you had sent in a message to the Support Team previously, please reply to the email you received and mention that you are again requesting the clan leader serial codes.
Please be aware that if you wish to take part in any promotions of this nature in the future, make sure to select the check box to receive free trials and promotions from PlayNC!
I guess its nothing to do with the actual thread but I saw this and thought the guy should get an explanation to set his mind at ease.
I don't get where you're coming from. I really don't.

Its just an expression meaning he doesn't understand your thinking. Its not meant to have anything to do with where you actually come from so doesn't mean someone is getting personal if they say it.
