I run on an over clocked dual core AMD and L2 works fine. Only issue I have is the game crashing if I leave it on for too long (ie more than 24 hours) but I think that might be more an issue of the video card over heating.
I have a pretty large dual core processor and I have no operating problems (also have pretty hefty ram and vid card too) with L2.
I have had game on and minimized for afk shops for days on end with no issue. Generally only disconnect comes from server problem or maintenance or when my cable has glitches.
As for running during the game--I get lag about like/when everyone else does. I don't guess I get more or less.
My impression is that my 'puter runs the game really well--and it's just a special order Dell xps.

...
why??
L2 doesnt require that many resources to run. are you running 7 copies of L2 simultaneously, or do you just like the smell of burnt processors?
overclocking is on that list of "dumb things i did in high school with a celeron 333". sure it gives you more preformance, but i would never do it with my primary computer. this is like just getting to A grade and trying to enchant your only weapon to +4, becasue you can afford the enchant. its a personal opinon, more than a technichal one. i think that you get a lot more value out of a machine without OEing it. some people disagree.

I have dualcore and L2 disconnects after maybe 5/6 hours of shop :(
The point is.. why going for dual processors when L2 is not a multi-threaded game, hence not benefitting at all from having two cores doing the job (apart for a little performance increase due to Windows being multi-threaded).. ?
Yes, I agree.... but it wasent because of L2 I chose dual core, but because of an other reason.
I only wanted to know if ther was some problems usling L2 and dual cores.
There is a problem with C5 PTS in conjunction with Dual Core processors.
Generally first run after reboot goes smooth and well. Then sometimes it gets glitched by "Negative Delta Time" message. I have a conspiracy theory that it's Gameguard failure, but I can't say it for sure. Reboot fixes the problem so far. Mostly it happens after C4 and C5 clients run simultaneously, but I have no repsoduce sequence that will lead to mentioned behaviour. Simple run of both vesions doesn't always produce this effect.

LOL I don't only play L2, plus I do a lot of computational math and I hate to wait days for relatively large data sets to finish processing. Also for the simple reason that I could.
PS: I don't mind the shortened lifespan of the CPU since in two years or less I'll probably put together another system.
What people can't grasp is that even if a program can't make use of dual core, doesn't mean it's not already in use.
Windows automatically shifts whatever tasks are running over to the other core giving more leeway and room for a single core ran program to operate based on CPU Usage and other means.
By default, Lineage2 should automatically load up on the first core and windows SHOULD (not always) move the other tasks to the 2nd core. This gives HUGE advantages
I ALWAYS load up the lineage2.exe file (the update screen)
The hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE to bring up the task manager.
Now go into the Processes TAB and fine the process named LINEAGE2.EXE
Highlight it by clicking on it once, then RIGHT CLICK and select "SET AFFINITY"
Now unchecked the 2nd cpu (you may have a listing of several but only 2 things checked, unchecked the 2nd on in the list so that lineage2 will default and forcefully run on the 1st core)
Or in windows XP x64, there will only be 2 listed and you must uncheck the 2nd one.
This is by far the best solution, the most stable solution, and gives you ALOT of extra performance in other applications and other work that may be running at the time, for example FRAPS will by default, load onto the 2nd core and not load at all onto the first, giving you more bandwidth and cpu time to record what your doing in game with little to no slowdown.
wow a windows user not running under an administrator user name, I'm both impressed and surprised. There's a runas (I think that's the command) command that lets you run things like installations and software that requires administrator read/write permissions as the administrator user, but I have no idea how it would work with the task manager. the other thing you could do
is log in as administrator and give your user administrator rights through the control panel.
Ok, so now I bought a new PC with the dual core and all.
And thanks god it works fine.
I use Windows XP PRO SP2 (fully auto updated) and I can set the infinity as you suggested.
It's really nice to see the processor load be like 25-35% even when I'm playing L2 (client window active) On by normale one-core PC I almost always have 90-100% CPU load.
Then.... we have C5 ... it runs fine... but started to crash when I have two clients running at the same time.
I got some kind a "directX faoult" so I tryed with full details on first L2-client and low details (ALT-P) on the second L2 client.
So now I only crashed once within 1,5 hour of playing.
Sadly it was in Vos :(
Gladly I had a few clanies around me to keep the area clean :)
Then during night (in 6-8 hours) I had 3 AFK shops running on my new PC, and the PC dident crash at all :)
