I just started last week and am now playing my first character who is enjoying all the newbie benefits. There is one thing that is puzzling me however: equipment exchange. I'm told by the Newbie Guides and by L2's web site that I can exchange equipment for better stuff and only pay the difference but I must be missing something. Every time I click on a weapons or armor merchant and hit "exchange equipment", a window pops up with nothing in it even though the npc has better stuff available. I've been unable to find any information on the specific mechanics of how this is supposed to work so I was hoping someone could fill me in. I'm probably just missing something really simple but it's getting a bit frustrating. Thanks in advance!
You can upgrade up to top non-grade equipment (Zweihander, Bone Breastplate, Bracer etc.)
You can't upgrade lowest priced equipment available in NPC stores.
You should have newbie character status to have access to equipment upgrade.
So, in order to aquire d grade you have to sell your gear and buy some d grade equipment from stores/players.
Selling your items to NPC will not make much sense since NPCs are too greedy to pay anything near full price of the item.
Zweihander wont upgrade because it's the max already, but I'm sure that Bone will, perhaps you didn't unequipthat part?
I discovered through experimentation that apparently you can only upgrade to equipment of the SAME GRADE which would be one of those little details I was looking for that nothing in the game seems to tell you. :)
I was looking to go from NG to D since I just hit 20 but a friend of mine helped me out and I got some D armor.
Now I just need to figure out how to work the economy so I can make some adena...prices in this game are downright frightening and the adena doesn't seem to roll in nearly fast enough. ;)
