Was wondering which mage class is easier to play for solo purpose. Even to high levels.
I know that SH hits harder, but i see lots of mobs which are weak to fire - and Sorc uses fireballs.
So can a sorc kill faster/easier? How about dowtime without a buff bot from outside - just solo play?
And for later levels, how about pvp?
Which class would u guys suggest? Or are these 2 classes pretty even?
Well they are both good classes and there alot more sh than sorcs out there, well and most of the time alot of dmg is overkill so hitting hard isnt that important in pve. Dont remember and to lazy to check but i dont think that sorcs get a overhit skill. Well thanks to death spike a sh can keep mp consumtion pretty low and with the nerf to sleep cloud in c5. So my vote is sh unless u think fire is really cool or that humans look good or u like being a bit unique.
i play both classes and i can tell you (with a buff bot) that both are super fast to pve with even at my level. with c5 changes it will become even easier to do that.
but i notice two particular things i do to hunt with SH ...
B2M + Hurricane + Death spike + vampclaw + B2M
using that combination while walking, i really never run out of MP and i can solo white mobs.
this will cost you a few trips to Hardins for bones, and if your using shots, just forget Deathspike.
If you want to overhit mobs, use Shadowflare after hurricane. youll need to use 1 more b2m to make up for it tho. you really dont need a recharger or boxed buffer to use SH effectively in pve. aside from that, Shadowflare is about the most expensive book and most rare i have seen. easy to farm tho even as an SH!
with a sorc, things are different. you dont have B2M that works well. tbh it really sux bones. so the combination i use for max damage is
Prominence +Aura Bolt x2 +Aura flare
i spend 2 mp more playing the sorc cause AB costs 1/2 the mp and does 1/2 the dmg, but at a combined cost of 2 more mp for the same damage.
then just recharge once. if im walking, i will let mp go down to 20% before spamming recharge. i get a lot of kills in before the "downtime" then.
in terms of pvp at higher levels, the sorc CAN come out on top almost all the time if properly set up and your reflexes are fast. speeeeed. speed is the only way nuker vs nuker can be decided. SH has lower base Wit so speed will always be a fraction slower than a sorc. sometimes thats enough tho.
if i can hit you with my main nuke before you finish casting, chances are i will interrupt your casting and i will begin to cast earlier than you as well. a fraction is all it takes.
+++ your weapon and get acumen SA to maximise your damage AND speed.

Pffft...cancle. Pffft...nukes. Silence is golden. Play an SH.
SH over Sorc...all day long
body to mind, death spike, and an over hit...awsome for pve
pvp....all depends on your buffs and if silence lands
seriously though SH casting speed is just too slow for pvp with other nukers, however in group pvp when SH is fully buffed....they are awsome to have on your side. :)

You know. That is the best way I've seen it put.
SH are extremely good with group pvp. Essentially lending huge swaths of damage to the group's targets.
But pit us against other mages... well... unless our silence lands we get the interrupts as other mages can outcast us.
if you need either silence or cancel, you live far too safely in lineage2.
i have neither. waste of SP. spam nukes = dead target everytime. who needs the unnecessary expenditure of mp on something that doesnt land at 900 range :P
not i.
and ive dropped tanks lvl 61 using my sorc.
but most devianners just bsoe anyway so i have very few pvp points.
btw wondering myself if the SH really is alot more commen then sorc. i play on hindemith so if anyone knows our status hehe. i like the be a bit special, but it wil be an alt so it might not be that important to me anyway :p if i do pvp eventually, it will most likely be with a friend whos alting :P a sps so he can cancell hehe
Because that makes his win worthless, IMO. With enough of those it'd take a small army to take her down. Popping QHP's is admitting you're outmatched.
I don't think SH is FotM. Nukers in general are FotM. In all reality, it doesn't matter much either way. You're not going to be a minority with ANY nuker. There are already a ton of both on Hinde. If you want to make a character that no one plays anymore, you're not going to wind up with a good PvP class.
I'll have to jump on the SH boat as well. Mine is pretty darn fast and powerful as well. I think the key is the BTM that you have. Essentially you can eat yourself to almost death and then Vampiric Claw one mob and almost get to full health. The various skills are good too.
One not so good note is that our major attacks (besides hurricane) are dark and many mobs are Dark Magic Resistant. Keep that in mind.
well i almost made a necro and they are only dark far as i know :P thats why i decided the SH might be better.
guess you are right about the nukers on hindemith, non are truelly rare, so i`ll just take the SH so we got a duo of a fast and a strong nuker :) might make for some interesting fun

Remember, everyone might say your SH has the slowest casting spd in the game, but you have Acumen SA Weapons, Robe Masteries, & pots to make up for that. Have fun they are a great class to play, I love mine. :p

What people who always post like this forgot, SpS will also get this so its not like SH will get any closer to the other classes in casting speed.
and have to agree. SH owns us. Firstly, you are talking pve. With a nuker soloing, the idea is to put the mob down befoire he reaches you. More damage = less nukes, less nukes = less time, less time = less distance mob can cover before it dies. Very simple. Green and white mobs to SH, all day long. Also, 2 shots instead of 3 = less bsps.... better money making as well.
Sorc doesn't get an Overhit skill till 77. Cause I guess they figure at 77 a Sorc might actually want to gain a little more xp.
BtM 1. I think that is done as a personal torture device.
SH can straight up nuke, and recharge with a good btm. You can also CDL if you wish. Not an option for the sorc.
I am one of those apparently rare players that doesn't have a buff box. I am often left to solo (and solo means not having a buffer in or out of party) and the pace is gruelling.
In parties, I am most often a Crowd controller (sleep cloud and sleep) but without a dedicated recharger (a rarity for me) I can spare 1-maybe 2 nukes per mob and spend my time sleeping and smacking with my sword for 20-50 damage a shot. I will decay if mobs are high hp.
I think you'd be better served as a SH to be honest, but whatever you chose, I wish you the best.

Yes, and since the increase via SA, set bonus and buffs is a % increase, the difference between fully buffed and equipped SH and SpS will be even bigger than between unbuffed ones. Of course you can get a SH to a decent casting speed, but since in pvp casting speed wins, you will always be at a disadvantage compared to a SpS.

I didn't forget what so ever, I was just reminding the OP (since they might of not known) & no one mentioned it yet, that you can get weapons & pots to increase the casting speed. So they might have the slowest casting spd, but it can be improved a bit. Also when your PVP really it depends on, if the person who your PVPing against actually knows how to play there class. I have a friend who's a mage (Sorc) and she tells me she sucks at PVP, why? because she doesn't know how to play her character 1on1.
Practice makes perfect :p

The casting speed issue really only becomes notable in 1 on 1 PvP. In mass PvP, SHs cause massive death, because their immense damage gives their target virtually no time to react once they're tareted. In a siege, or other mass PvP, a SH can use his 900 range to pick targets that aren't paying attention to him, and pick them off VERY quickly from a distance.
It also goes back to the old "Whoever levels more, is stronger" thing as well. The SH is easier to level. Period. Overhits, huge life drain, good b2m, big damage. Without a buffbox, they're easily the most efficient.
I've said it 100,000 times: don't pick a class to be strong. Pick a class you're going to have fun with, or it won't matter HOW strong you are, you'll get bored out of your mind and quit. I learned this one the hard way. My Spellsinger is 60+ and, no matter how may people I kill, it's still boring as mess once the PvP is over. That makes it really hard to level, considering the grind is boring enough WITHOUT a boring character. SH has a WAY bigger variety of spells, which makes them a bit more fun, IMO. You don't always have to use the same old nuke to kill the mobs, or the other players, for that matter. Pick what interests you.
Well, in PvE maybe. One on One Sorceror and SH, Sorceror has the upper hand unless the SH can land silence or doesn't get interupted as much.
Other than that, I love my SH. If I had to do it all over again I would choose the same.
Again, I think it depends on how well the person know's how to play there class.
In this case I disagree.
With Sorceror's casting speed the can cancel, sleep, cast that spell that makes you submit to fire damage and nuke... Now, with the changes in C5 to sleep (and maybe even cancel) some of this is altered.
But with their buffs they can outcast a SH. Same with a spellsinger. And interrupts have nothing to do with knowing how to play your class. I could be wrong but I really doubt it.
i would say those that play SH and claim to Pzown in pvp are those that intitiated attacks. you wanna win, you gotta shoot first, see who goes red later.
there really isnt pvp with a nuker. either you go red killing too fast as one against another nuker, or wait for some **** melee to whack at you and drop them.

Very well said Spudnik. And I agree. My last pvp with a Sorceror of like lvl I won but I feel it was because I hit them first. They won minutes before because they found me first.
But, when you get one on one arena style with similiar buffs then there are other factors such as interrupts, silence landing, etc. There was another post elsewhere that suggested that SH's were made more for mass pvp or group PvP. I really agree with this to a certain extent.
SH's are "The guns of Navarone". And you have to send Gregory Peck, Anthony Quinn and David Niven to [censored]. :p

Actually, if someone doesn't know what skills to use in PVP, then they probably don't have that strong of a chance to win. Even if they are casting faster then the other class, doesn't mean they will win if they aren't sure how to pvp with that class or have never pvp'd with there class before. :p
sorcs are way better than SH 1v1... I kill 77 SH's all the time 1v1 without vortex.
yup... I would agree.
And to Tiffy, of course... but that goes with any class.
But one on one, equal buffs, no surprises, I would say that the sorceror will win because of its very nature. This is not to say that the SH can't win or that silence won't land and it is game over, but "one on one" as I've stated above, the sorceror will win. SPS too I believe, though they used to use that Aura flare a lot. If you could keep away from that then you might live.
SH's are slow "huge blasts" of power.
As I said above "Guns of Navarone".
edit: to EQ
He wants to know as an overall gaming experience, which will level faster and be mopre fun to play.
Hands down it is the SH.
yeah.. SH is easier to lvl.
to Spudnik: thx.. I'll have to pm you about my "successful "Cabrio raid that ended in failure. :(
*sigh*
I don't think the OP was asking "at end-game levels, in a 1v1 where all things are equal (buffs, gear) which will own in a duel?"
Not sure how things are on all y'all's servers but on Sieghardt, the chances of being in a 1v1, equal levels, buffs and gear with a sorc vs a sh.... rare.
He wants to know as an overall gaming experience, which will level faster and be mopre fun to play.

Now perhaps, on top of windy hill, at 1:00 am in an august breeze, with boss jewels and 73 SE buffs, both wearing s Grade gear of same + AND if both players have nostromo and have consumed exactly 6.3 ounces of mountain dew..... Dude who gives a flying crap?
SH will provide a better gaming experience. Trust me.
Agreed & I thin that question has been answered already, so we were kinda moving onto another point without hoping to have to open are own new thread, since it is based on the same class as the OP asked about.
Sovrath congrats on your level btw :)
Completely agreed & never argued with who would win hands down (if played right) at PVP. I just wanted to open the OP's mind a bit & let him know that SH is the slowest casting class (as everyone mentioned already) doesn't mean you have to give up on them & remind him that we do have pots & SA Weapons in the game that help classes like this. Of course he better gaming experience part is really based on which classes you like, how well you enjoy the grind & if you like interacting with people of all ages. :D
