The newest server is doubtlessly the freshly opened Franz - it's on European times though, and starting on a new server is much tougher than on an established one.
A good starter character is "whatever you enjoy playing". :D

I'd say look for a server that has a high reward for red coda, but I'm A) too tired to explain the manor and B) just had to cry myself to sleep because it was slashed in half on Lionna. ;_;

You and I, Spud, can recommend Devianne. Others of course can recommend their servers. That won't help the OP cause he has no idea if our answers even represent what he will experience.
I truly believe that outside of the euro servers (if he's in NA) that he should pick THE SERVER WITH THE HIGHEST NUMBER (newest one) that has the lowest ping for him.
I'll concede your point that there may be subtle differences in how a server feels....but he can find "nice people" on all of them----and jerks. There are players helpful to newbies on all servers--and at least some seriel griefers on all.
what i mean, is Devianne clans for the most part could care less who you are, where you come from or how fast you level.
if youre in the wrong place at the wrong time youll actually get to witness the incoherent babblings of farmer-protesting, anti-bot, your-level-is-bigger-than-mine-so-u-must-ebay ***** tards going red on the next noob that crosses their path.
Bartz: alot of high lvls, highest ping, some very good pvpers.
Kain: tons of high and medium lvl players, fairly decent market, lots of people will help you (my server). heros are for the most part really cool and nice to players.
Dev.: tons of high players. some role playing, lots of drama, not a great market "from what I hear". I hear alot of good and bad from it.
Teon: first offical eruo server, bad market, I quote "60% bots, 30% russains, 10% other eruos", decent high lvl pvp, one ally controls most everything on the server (from what I hear).
Franz: Brand new server, no economy, no high lvls, lots of griefers, surely soon to be alot of bots. the new offical eruo server.
seigeheart: high lvl PvP, IDK much more about them..I personal don't care for it.
Gustin: is a decent server from what I hear, but it's been going down hill.(from what I hear on here)
Erica: really bad market, 1 ally controls the server, and the market. their oppenest are really bad at pvp.
If you find yourself on Erica server....then look me up, I'll help you get started....oh and watch out for my RED. The SR is just not as friendly as the SH.
