1) don't use fileplanet, it sucks.
2) if you have to, can you please, please at least make fileplanet put together a website that isn't completely borked in firefox?
1. Looking at the influx of people playing this game becuase of fileplanet I would say NCSOFT officials would strongly disagree with you here ( BTW I use fileplanet all the time to try out games not sure why you think it "sucks").
Before, I could click and easily download the client from NCSoft's website. Now I have to go over to fileplanet, and go through all their crap, wait times, and so forth. I would say I definitely greatly preferred the old system. I guess that's better than simply, "it sucks".
When I click on the link to fileplanet, which usually shows the promotional graphic with the link to download in IE, mine shows nothing. I have NoScript, but its disabled for the page, and adblock plus, which may be responsible if others aren't having trouble. So, NCSoft, can you at least get them to fix it so that it doesn't appear as an advertisement?
*edit* yep, I checked, */promotions/* is now a standard filter for adblock plus.
I don't get it, how hard is it for NCSoft to host their own software? I mean, come on. I was able to download and install Ubuntu in a fraction of the time its taking with fileplanet, and I didn't pay anything for ubuntu.
I don't care if they want to run a promotion on fileplanet, but they can at least host their own client.
Looking at my statistics, I used a BT client to download some 5TB of data and upload some 17TB of data this year already. No problems whatsoever. Maybe you just need to set up your client better? (And yes, I do realise Blizzard's implementation of the BT protocol sucks, but that's not a problem of bittorrent itself, it's just Blizzard being Blizzard).
... or set up a friggin' torrent, if they want to spread the network load.
NO NO NO NO NO NO
No Torrents PLEASE!!!!!!!!
Blizzard uses it for their patches and I'll tell you it SUCKS. FP is fine for any non****** to use.
Actually, if you're a "non******" as you put it, and you properly configure your router to port-forward the BT traffic to your computer, torrents take a matter of minutes instead of hours. In a year and a half of playing, I never once had a problem with Blizzard's patch distribution. Even the largest ones only took 15-20 mins to download. Personally I would love to see a torrent for the next client release.
Anyway, I started downloading the C5 client off of Fileplanet yesterday morning before I left for work. When I came home some 10 hours later, it wasn't even halfway done downloading and I was getting only about 5 kbps and a projected additional 30-40 hours to finish. So I decided to perform an experiment and opened the updater to see if patching it that way would be faster. It was loads faster. When I got up this morning, the game was patched but Fileplanet was still chugging along telling me it needed 20-30 more hours.
IMO, Fileplanet is only "good" if you want to pay them for a subscription to have access to the fat bandwidth. I for one refuse to succumb to extortion. ;)

hey m8 i dont have subscription and always have 500 Kb/s - 1Mb/s, the only thing is i have to wait in line for around 30-60min to get download started so i dont think thats a problem
oh btw i started to download l2 c5 client maybe 2-3 hours after release so i guess it was preaty heavy on that file and still 600Kb/s

You have 479 posts so I'll assume you've been here a while...
Stop being a noob and update in advnce with the PTS next time.
It only took me 5 minutes to have C live.

When I purchased L2 from Direct2Drive a couple weeks ago, I used the downloader and got 500-600 kbps but not so for C5 for some reason. Must've kept getting bad mirrors or something...I did notice they only had one selection for "West Coast" whereas they had several for "East Coast". Wonder if that had something to do with it.
At any rate, I don't mind waiting in the queue, but I do mind attrocious speeds after having waited for 30 mins to start downloading.
thats kinda wierd cause i had west and east cost some other two in US and a UK server to download from, as i found out east and UK servers works for me the best (had 1.02 Mb/s on east once)
It is insane to think that they should still have a 350k dl link off the main page for a new chronicle. To run a business you need to plan for average traffic and cant go justifying costs for the once a year time when your bandwith exceeds current needs. Also, it only took me two hours to update via the l2.exe so I dont see the problem. Most of us work during the cst time so its good to start it before you go to work and all set when you get back :)
Why should I have to pay $7 so I can download the game I already pay $13 a month for.
NCSoft just shows how low grade of a company they are by not having a dedicated site with enough bandwidth.

Only a [censored] would pay to download the update; even from fileplanet.
There has been an ongoing issue with one of the major west-coast backbones for a week or two now, it's affecting the majority of internet traffic in some manner or another... could be why you're only seeing 1 WC server for File Planet.

WOW!!! "9 2 3" is actually getting moderated now!!! Who'd a thunk it!?!
I didn't add it to the bad word list... you really typed 923 and it was removed? 923 is okay to say on the official message board. :) (Sorry, I'm trying not to laugh, really.)

they do use their own stuff, that is what the updater does. Connects you to NCsofts stuff. You could of just used that.
I dont get how hard it is for you to understand this is your own problem, not NCsofts, not anyone elses. You added stuff to your firefox, that is your problem. If the site doesnt work cause of the add ons you did, then remove them. If you dont want to do that, use the updater that is provided by NCsoft.
