Nerfing the SEs

Has anyone noticed that c5 has made nothing more than buff bots out of the SE? I know a level 71 SE who has worked over a year to develop her toon, playing every second of her leveling time, who is going to let her account expire at the end of this billing cycle. C5 has destroyed the SE. Way to go NCSOFT. At a time when played healers, especially high level ones, are almost nonexistent, lets take away the very little an SE can actually do in live play to make a contribution and play the game. The SE heal has been nerfed so bad that my friend's greater heal, with empower, shot and majestic robes, is approximately equivalent to her high dgrade heal. I predict by the time the next chronicle comes, actual played healers will be a distant memory. Come on NC...there is leveling the playing field, then there is sinking it.
SE's get the best of buffs, Bishops get the best of heals, EE's get a few good of both. If anyone it's the prophets that should be moaning about being buff bots, at least you get greater heal
Prophets have PoF to look forward to.

SEs have an end game issue, which NCSoft will likely not address because of the "healthy population" of them.
I did aoe with an SE today and we did fine. The new heal just wasn't as spammable as before but over time our mana usage was about the same as before.
I started to use battle heal more than I ever used to - yes, the one learned pre-40 :p
But it draws too much agro when spammed.
Guess I have to look for avadon robes and acumen instead of BW and conversion *sigh* There goes my 3.7k MP :D
BW should offer you a tiny notch more cast speed than avadon, if that's any comfort. :D Your MP pool is yet (half) safe.
Use the new heal to your advantage. If you know you're going to get into the thick of things and don't want aggro on the healer then have the healer drop a heal on you. Then run in an get the aggro. The heal over time works like a heal pot ^^. Hopefully by the time you need healing again all the aggro are dead.
Just wondering, is the HoT effect based on M Atk? If so, then I don't see how HoT could be a nerf to a class with the potential to have more M atk than a SH...
I haven't decided if I like the new heals or not.

If you're fighting mobs like you should be, then it's not a big deal, because the HoT has plenty of time to do it's thing. The amount you can heal over a few minutes has gone up if you use the HoT to your advantage.

On the other hand, if it starts to get ugly, your MP is gone in a second, because the HoT doesn' stack - so if you drop back to back heals, you get screwed on the first HoT. Which sucks.
The HoT is all good...requires some getting getting used to, but its fine. However, the SE I was talking about is in a heavy pvp clan. And surely you can all see that the cheesy heal and HoT in pvp is all but useless. Its not like healers can offer a lot in PVP anyway. Perhaps this is a ploy to make more people choose EEs and bishops, but it wont play out that way. What will happen is people will bring up buff bot SEs and solo...and there still wont be hardly any played healers. Even less now.........sad....rather than make the less desired classed more desirable they make the more desired classes less desireable. Nothing like sinking to the lowest common denominator.
The HoT is fixed, which means it closes the gap between SE and EE heal power a little - of course so does MajHeal, but that's a different story.

I think it's a step in the right direction to weaken SE heals, but I'm sort of wondering why this cord trails off in the middle: They fix the PvE usefulness for EEs, but what happened to doing the same with SEs in PvP?
never. . have I ever played a game that really made a class strictly for an "out of group buffing on the second computer toon". . . I mean. . just last night. . I was offered 1m to stay out of group and keep buffs up for this guy so he could solo. >.< After a chat, and much venting about how I wasn't a "buff **" he felt bad and invited me. . but man. . talk about bad timing on his part. . .

Just wondering, is the HoT effect based on M Atk? If so, then I don't see how HoT could be a nerf to a class with the potential to have more M atk than a SH...

The heal/HoT is higher on a SE specailly if they use Bsps...then it is on a EE if they use Bsps of the same grade.

I tested this prewipe/postwipe PTS with my EE on prewipe and my SE on post wipe....and I deffenetly got alot more back from the SE...so I'm going with a yes to the M atk adding to it.

They might be trying to adjust the SE/EE heals now but they should have done this before giving the wrong prophecies to the wrong classes. Do you have a link explaining the prophecies different healers get? Hrm maybe I'll use the search function.

My bad. ^^;

And yes Tail, I totally agree. I'm not trying to praise NCSoft's balancing here - remember what I play!
The SE now has a new role in pvp.. to buff, recharge, and mana burn or erase. They never were very good at healing for pvp, especially not against a nuker's damage.. the only upside for this now is you can cast the heal before the damage and get a heal pot for a few seconds.

PvE - Since the HoT does the same instantaneous heal (more or less) than the level 35 heal does, alternate them. It would make no sense to spam greater heal, since the HoT doesn't stack.. but you can save mp while doing only what matters. Unfortunately the HoT icon is not visible to the healer, so unless you've cast greater group heal you won't know exactly when the HoT fades.
The SE has and is more of a buffer class than a healer class. Same as the EE is more healer than buffer. On each end is the proph and Bish, being pure buffer and pure healer.

IMO it's a good setup for a game.
yeah when we eneter the pagan;s temple some of our guild se's where too low for the quest. So they dropped a heal on themseleved and charged the guards
sry , but i think i use GHP instead of SE heals now...
like the same and dont leech exp :p

GJ NC ... like always
may u find some more nerfs for next update to make the game playable by bots only ^^
well the HoT is completely worthless because it doesn't stack with wc heals... make the two stack and all is well.
Oh gosh cry more seriously. So you can't heal almost as good as a bishop, with more greater heals than an EE, with fantastic buffs and recharges.

And yes, I duo with my SE on all my chars now, it's about time SE's got put into a spot.
One SE less.

I think it's a step in the right direction to weaken SE heals, but I'm sort of wondering why this cord trails off in the middle: They fix the PvE usefulness for EEs, but what happened to doing the same with SEs in PvP?

The main SE heal in PvE is their VR buff, which is not being weakened. And the C5 changes definitely give them some role in PvP, being the highest-MAtk class with Mana Burn.
And also the only healer not busy doing something else? :p

ROFL.. The ignorance of some never ceases to amaze me.

Yeah, because GHP's can give SE buffs.

What's with all the crying about having to adjust playstyle to compensate for a slight change.

Put me down as one of the people smart enough to use the change to my benefit.

For the cry babies in here: Don't bother trying to figure it out, it's way to complex for you, just reroll a Bishop.

But don't delete your old toon yet :D
...

HEAL EARLIER. So many toons are used to how much hp their heal restores and you are going to have to adapt. Heal the tanking player a little earlier and let the HOT do it's business before the next one. The new heals are more efficient than ever. Also, if you need to heal that often with VR 3 running, you are hunting in the wrong area. If an archer/mage is getting that much aggro that you need to spam heals, you are hunting in the wrong area...or simply not using a tank.

The heal nerf, the sleep cloud nerf, everything screams PARTY TANKS AGAIN.
im not too sure what to make out of this change, and healers in general

Ive been eagerly awaiting franz' lauch so i could rejoin my old guild (who had gotten renewed interest in L2 with franz annouced) roll an EE, a class i always wanted to play, and level with people from low lvl and all the way up. Also, we planned on getting clan wars with a ton of other ugilds, so playing an EE for fast pvp heals is also nice

So i log on to c5, make my elven mystic and start soloing
by level 12 i hadnt gotten a second of downtime, due to the herbs. Ive rested TWICE soloing to 22 due to the herbs.
atm in NUKING (with an Elven oracle !) and going NON STOP vs green and white mobs and crap gear (the free event gear) due to the herbs

What the hell are healers good for now ? And i dont mean just SE, cuz se has amazing buffs
Sure, everyone wants high lvl EE and BP around in pvp for the ressing and fast heals, but no one is willing to team with them, and considering the obscene frequency of the herb drops ppl wont want healers for pve, as they would oh my god get less xp !
I just hope that NCSoft will soon introduce some stupid change that allows to box EE and bishop very eficiently.
And then have a good laugh.
I can solo 2 rooms each pull in ascetics with SE buffs and a GSAP. I don't even need heals. I think I'd last maybe 7 seconds with EE or PP buffs.

Let alone, I think the SE to EE ratio alone is enough reason to.. "fix".. the SE's a little.
No more SE as my main. AOE with a BH alot and the fact that HoT doesn't stack makes me use to much MP. It's sad, that we now have D heals. If I had wanted to be a buffer, I would have made as buffer my main. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
SE is a buffer. They're the only class in game with empower and one of two with VR...the two most powerful buffs that exist for pve.
SE's need to heal? Dont they know they have a Buff called Vamp Rage...while a Bishop heals 10 times an SE MIGHT have to heal once.

Poor SE's? *laughs*
We worked our way back into lair last night to finish subclass quests for some clannies. 5 of us (one 2box SE). There really wasn't much of an issue with the heals whatsoever. Not sure what all the complaining is about.

When the box is enough why would you need live SE?
VRVRVRVRVRVRVRVRVRVR.First - WC's also have this buff and much more melees buffs.Second - if only having SE buffs is enough and no heal is required then again - why would you need live SE?
Little test in Stakato nest on my SE :
I still can heal heavy armor melees(both duelist and FS in my clan can be sure that i will heal them in time and eficiently)
I cant heal low pdef/hp classes like BD or robe/light armor users.I'm forced to spam heals and in about 5 minutes i'm OOM.With real tank it would not be this bad , problem is the last tank in my clan quit 2 months before C5...
What this complaining is about?SE's are perfect healers in places where you can cast GH and wait 15 seconds till HoT will take efect.Problem is that even very unskilled 2boxer can do the same.Looks like you dont have any problems with that army of boxes and congratulate nerf which will lessen the number of live SE's so your EE/bishops will find parties easier?
Its like a child getting all the sweets, no other child gets it, the mother comes and says 'Share with your friends' and the child cries because he doesnt have it all anymore.

Lol
ROFL

You cannot possibly intend to alter skillsets to avoid players 2boxing a toon? When people AOEd in ABG, I knew clannies that 2boxed a tank. ANY class can be 2boxed, and changing skills doesnt effect the rate for 2boxing in anyway...unless it's removing skills.

Fewer mages can 2box an SE if they have to spam heals uncontrollably when something goes wrong. Good change.

OK, I do the same thing but I have clan hall buffs which gives VR4 and theres no way your doin this unless there light blue or dark blue. Or your greatly exaggerating(some call it lying). Cause theres no way you can do this with two rooms half of stunners with mobs white or green even with the best of buffs like a clan hall gives. :) So im wondering what your point is?? That you can train 2 rooms of light blues with VR?? WOW impressive that sure proves how great VR is :p
His point is, VR is so strong that the SE deserved a healing nerf.

Mobs in the first set of ascetic rooms don't stun.
People argueing the usefulness of VR crack me up.

The SE most certainly has a lot, if not all, the candy at early levels - but once again, their end game is thin. Steps are being taken to fix the early game of bishops and EEs (having two mystic support classes with will probably get more popular), but nothing is being done about the whole "little to look forward to" business for SEs.

In the end, more love is needed both for EEs and for SEs. :p And probably harder PvE.
I play a SE. I've played an SE for over two years.

I do not see this as the end-all of SEs. It just means I have to re-learn my role, and while that does annoy me, it's not enough to make me reroll or box.

I maintained early on that a live SE is better than a boxed. I continue to maintain this. A live SE (or any live healer / buffer) that knows what they're doing is far superior to a box.

The fight comes from convincing others.
Am I the only one who thought EE and Bishop were pretty **** good to begin with? SEs are suppose to be a healer/buffer hybrid, same as an EE. The difference is that EE is better at pvp healing while an SE is better at pve. So what happened I guess was the EE and Bishop wanted to be as good in pve as an SE so the only LOGICAL thing was to nerf the SE? And I do very much think it is a nerf. In all the previous chronicles I still played in parties with Bishops and EEs a lot, and when I wanted to pvp, which I love to do, I was able to do it. I was not the best at pvp, but I could do it well enough to be of use. Now with the new heals my SE is completely useless in pvp, I won't even be helping out in my clan pvp practices anymore, there is no point.

Yes, we have emp. It’s a good buff, best the SE has if you count how many people benefit from it. And Yes we have VR, but so does a WC and a BD when the bd is high enough lvl.

Exactly how were SEs over powered? Because we have a lot of buffs and 'had' decent heals? If we were over powered wouldn't we of been awesome in pvp also? So EE and Bish are not as good in pve, but at least they have their pvp! How can they expect to have both while other classes don't? There will always be some classes that people want over others for whatever the situation is. I have an abyss walker and I can't for the life of me get a group. Perhaps I should complain to have all the other party based melee classes nerfed so I can get in, cause that seems to be the trend. But no, AW, at least to me, is a pvp class foremost. The EE and Bishops just need to do what I had to do with my AW, get in a clan/alliance, a good one, and they will party you as much as possible, and you repay them with what you were meant to do. Pvp. If an SE is partying in the wrong spot because with these new heals are not enough to do the job, then wouldn’t it be safe to say that in c4 those EE and bishops who couldn’t get groups are at fault for being in the wrong clan/alliance?

This is one less live SE main. One that thinks the only SEs will eventually be only the ones who are 2 boxed. I cannot just sit around a buff; if I wanted to do that I would of made a prophet. And to those of you who think Mana Storm and Erase are our ticket to pvp…. What I see happening is say in a siege, the SE’s are kept out of the parties and will only do something when called about to buff. After all, you want your party to be the most effective, and a pure buffer who can’t heal you is not what you want. So the SEs will be sitting on the side, and when they are bored they will run up and try and target and mana storm or erase their target. Oh boy, fun, nothing like trying to help from outside a group. -__- Then the abyss walker comes along and kills you with 1 backstab.

I maintained early on that a live SE is better than a boxed. I continue to maintain this. A live SE (or any live healer / buffer) that knows what they're doing is far superior to a box.

There was 1 reason to have live SE over boxed one in groups - heal.Right now SE are only slightly better at healing that prophet.Since groups now are forced to take EE/bish as healer and WC are far better buffer that SE...
Just give me one reason to have live SE grouped instead of oog box.
Yeah, a live person who knows what they are doing is a better healer/buffer, cause then the person who would normally be 2 boxing only has to worry about one character.

But if we are hunting how everyone seems to feel where VR alone or maybe with 1 heal every so often is enough to keep the party running perfectly then really, would having a live SE make that much difference? Probably not, so then the SEs brought along are 2 boxed and out of party or in party if they need to lvl them up. Result is you got all of what you wanted and needed. And with vr you won't need to be spamming heals. And toss the SE out of party and your getting a good bit more exp than you would with having to have a live SE in party.

This game is all about what the fastest way to get exp is, thats proven in that catacombs are now the level spots of choice as apposed to say the old cruma tower.

I play a SE. I've played an SE for over two years.

I do not see this as the end-all of SEs. It just means I have to re-learn my role, and while that does annoy me, it's not enough to make me reroll or box.

True, same for our sleep who landed and was quick in C4. We lot a lot of crowd control in PvE all of a sudden.
Yeah.

My biggest complaint of all the nerf bats that got shoved up my backside has to be sleep.

I was a crowd-controlling, healing, buffing, meleeing machine two days ago.

Now I'm... mediocre.

Oh well. I'm not abandoning 2 years of work that easy.
Exactly thinking the same thing...will require a lot of study and practice to see where seperate ourselves from boxed SE's.
Well, there's still root - although I'm already sick of hissing "back" at people who are standing next to a rooted mob. :(

Too many people didn't play L2 in Prelude where you HAD to learn these things. PvE is so easy now, most people read a book while they exp.

But if we are hunting how everyone seems to feel where VR alone or maybe with 1 heal every so often is enough to keep the party running perfectly then really, would having a live SE make that much difference? What I was saying the whole time, and what surprisingly few people understand. Everybody seems to think the SE is overpowered because we have empower and VR. And people seem to believe that having these two buffs is enough to justify that SE heals should get nerfed, because "SE is a buffer" (while at the same time they forget that most parties want a Prophet or Warcryer, because SE lacks important buffs, and prophets have all the buffs SE has except for emp/vr, so all SE buffs EXCEPT emp/vr are superfluous).

Now, if all you really want from a SE is emp/vr, consider this: empower 3 is a lvl 52 buff. VR3 is a lvl 58 buff. VR3 is totally enough for almost all situations. If you have a BD in party (which all parties want, since BD immensely increases kill speed), you even get effectively vr6 with vr3+dance of vampire. So all you need is an out of party lvl 58 SE. You simply do not NEED a high lvl SE, because they have no interesting skills. They have nothing to look forward to. Yes, a high level SE can recharge other high level toons, but so can a EE - and far better, with higher mp regen and clarity buff for self recharge. Just give me one good reason why somebody should now play a SE to lvl 75+ (except masochism).

As was said above, EE and Bishop were always good in pvp, they were wanted classes there because they could actually keep people alive, and party return is a great skill for gank parties. SE was always the good pve healer. Now EE and Bishop got far, far better in pve and stay just as attractive in pvp. While the SE sucks even worse in pvp (I cannot keep anybody alive now, it is just hopeless) and got seriously nerfed in pve, too. I honestly do not know what NCSoft were thinking. Actually, I suppose they were not thinking at all, to be honest.

Word.
I got tired of people like "I am just hitting assist, I watch movie"
Great, I will just be hitting root, and browse internet :(

They're green/light blue to me at 66. I'm +8 dex (from doom light) and using a clean halberd. With VR I can provoke a room, run while only taking a couple hits, provoke another, then run around a pillar (not into a corner). By now my health is about 50%, but once I start hitting it builds right back up. Especially with warcry, thrillfight, or thunderstorm. Unless I mess up the pull, I come out of every pull with full HP. The only thing that keeps me from pulling more rooms is the damage I take while running and not hitting.
None of these mobs stun or use any notable specials. The lilim priests sleep (ohnoes) and drain but that's about it.
I'd upload some replays but I'm guessing you updated to C5 already.

My point isn't how uber I am, or that SE's are the only ones with VR. My point is how there's no way in heck I could do this with just PP or EE buffs.

It's not that you could not do the same with the heals of a good EE, but then you will definitely need some downtime to regen MP back.
Provoke is also not a hate, after healer starts spamming heals on Warlord healer gets all the mobs at him/herself. And Warlord has little possibilities to turn mobs back.
If you start healing a puller before Warlord starts to hit, either you are a bad healer or you know exactly what you are doing and how you are going to get rid of these mobs.

Or you have to compensate for Heal-Over-Time.

Yeah.
I didn't say that an SE could outheal a pole train without VR :p

A good EE can, but there will be more downtime than with an SE, even if an SE is only good enough to safely buff VR and then sit back.

well the HoT is completely worthless because it doesn't stack with wc heals... make the two stack and all is well.

Agree on you here. On other hand I as WC will need to spend more mp on sleeping now, so it might as well balance out.
Anyone that says well EE/bishop were good in pvp which makes up for the lack of usefulness in PVE is crazy. NO ONE wants to PVP if you aren't going to be getting the levels in PVE, which is what EE/Bishops had been struggling with for a long time. SE's were the end all healer for almost every group there was.

And don't forget until we find our books, bishops/ee's have the gimpy HoT heals too, and the new ones cost ORE. That's a bit of a nerf on it's own IMO.

Vitalize

I maintained early on that a live SE is better than a boxed. I continue to maintain this. A live SE (or any live healer / buffer) that knows what they're doing is far superior to a box.

This is so true and I box an SE. I'd drop her for a live SE any time, any place.
Vitalize is an expensive greater heal because it includes bleed and poison cures, EE's might use it because they only have one greater heal anyway but I seriously almost never have.
I did spam GH/Vitalize combo at the beginning of some trains/RB parties, and it must be cheaper than GBH. I did heal one target with GH and then switched to another target with Vitalize, too. I guess, we are supposed to use Major Heal in such cases in C5, I don't yet have a SB.

Prophets have way more options then SE's for playing...and you should know that yourself if your signature is correct and up to date.

On the reverse, what's the point of getting levels in PvE if you're going to be gimp in PvP at the end?

This was a problem for both ends. NCSoft is showing some signs of beginning to understand there even is a problem, but it's far from fixed - not for EEs, not for Bishops, not for prophets and most certainly not for SEs.

NO ONE wants to PVP if you aren't going to be getting the levels in PVE, which is what EE/Bishops had been struggling with for a long time. SE's were the end all healer for almost every group there was.

On the reverse, what's the point of getting levels in PvE if you're going to be gimp in PvP at the end?

Ok here you make sense to me.
All the support classes are weak. And getting the two best buffs and the best heals is broken. This is perfect.

And don't forget until we find our books, bishops/ee's have the gimpy HoT heals too, and the new ones cost ORE. That's a bit of a nerf on it's own IMO.

For me the game is about pvp, which as an SE has been taken away. Only reason I bothered with pve is because you have to get higher level to beable to join in the pvp. There is no reason for someone like me to play an SE now into really high lvls.

So to me being good in pvp IS a very good trade off for not being as good as an SE in pve.

As I said before, if it's an SE's fault for not being able to keep a party alive where they used to beable to now because of the nerfed heals then its an EE and Bishop's fault for not being able to get into exp parties because they are not in the right clan/alliance. There WERE ways for a c4 bishop and EE to get enough parties to level very well and its their fault if they do not take advantage of it. I don't think that is a good reason for the SE to suffer.

There is a difference to having the best heals and beable able to fully use those heals the best. You also must take into account the speed of the heals, which is why EE is better than SE in pvp. Doing the most health healed per heal is only part of the equation, just like in nukers doing the most damage per nuke is also only part of it. Speed is very important.

I have no problem with bishops and EE getting skills to make them all around better even though I thought they were already very good. My problem lies in the fact that they had to go and make the SE worse. If SE's didn't get anything knew, not mana burn, erase, or resist holy, but they kept everything about them the same, I would not be talking here right now.

Glad to see some people are on the same page as I am.
