wow. did anyone else notice the porting costs to the new player villages now ? or am I not remembering the porting costs correctly. I could have sworn that I could port from Gludio to dwarven village for about 6400. Now it's 32k and from gludin? 38k !
I noticed a reduction in port prices in a lot of areas too. For the long distance you pay for convenience. I tell you during class changes I would much rather go 4 towns over in one port just to get it done faster.
of all the C5 changes this increase in porting fees (higher money sinks) is one I agree with.
Kinda sucks for Franz folks but where inflation has run amok it makes sense to take adena out of circulation.
If you raise your prices in this environment, since folks have less adena on them, you will sell less.
Providing of course that 'outside sources' of adena can be addressed.

Long runs add nothing but boring wasted time spent clicking as far out as you possibly can to try to at least take the edge off the mind-numbing of it (or doing a little homework in the mean time). Forcing people to go through the run because they don't like getting ***** on gate costs adds nothing of value to the average player.
Yeah, it may help deal with the buyers... but you know... just how far are you willing to break the game for the rest of us to punish them?
inflation in game is like in real life--complicated and not one dimensional.
The fact that outside adena can be purchased means both that money is 'cheap' and that no one (except apparantly me) has to actually kill mobs anymore.
I believe a relative scarcity of base mats, a higher demand with wealthy alts (ubers with adena running low alts), easy outside adena, and a segment of the population only interested in PvP are ALL factors that effect the rate of inflation. Surely there are some that don't occur to me off the top of my head.
Inflation is a BAD THING for newer players--it takes the game out of their reach unless they, too, cheat. With Maille Lizardman dropping the same 130 adena he did 2.5 years ago--how is the new player supposed to EVER afford a SoL that sells base for 7.8 million adena? Keep in mind, same SoL was 5 million in June of this year, 3.8 million in March, 2.9 million January of 2006. That means the person starting today has to get almost 3 x as much adena for the SAME weapon--but legitimate adena doesn't fall faster from mobs, it falls at same rate that it always has.
One way (maybe not the best) to curb inflation is to decrease the amount of money in-game (thereby 'increasing' the relative value of the remaining money). Money sinks decrease the amount of money in-game. This presumes you have less undesired, outside money coming in than the rate that caused the inflation.
I'm not some kind of 'run everywhere' purist. I like being able to port cheaply. I appreciate that the game tried to take some steps to deal with rampant inflation.
Now if they will perma ban those who buy adena outside of game--we'll be set :)

SoL costs one top-D Giran weapon like Tarbar (~1.7-1.9mil adena) plus 480k aa. If someone buys SoL for 7.8 million adena, it has nothing to do with inflation and cannot be cured by money sinks.

When was the last time you checked Ancient Adena prices?
Oh wait yes, you say the newbie should be able to collect the money himself right? Right at what lvl did you get 480k AA in total from hunting yourself? Way over lvl40...
The more they raise prices for gatekeeping (or any other money sink), the more the unmentionables gain strength in this game.

Orvieta is absolutely right. This doesn't hurt anyone but low level, legitimate players. Those of us killing mobs/running quests to gain adena are at even more of a disadvantage than ever now.

As a legit player who teams with his wife for the most part, i think im going to bow out of L2 because of this change.
Its hard enough as it is to make money legit and this will only make people buy adena offline even more then before.
There was many ways to reduce the amount of money on a server, this simply wasnt one of them, well it is, but its simply not one to make your legit player base happy thats for sure.
It seems to me that they aren't bad at all for new players....they noted that they changed the 1st class change quests for the dwarfs and Orcs to include tasks. Hopefully they have totally removed Gludin from the 1st class change series for the mentioned races.
For the uperlevels it gives the ability to pass seiging towns....and that is good...but costly as noted.
As for normal porting it seems as if town to town ports have been lowered so it is now cheaper to go
Gludin->Dion->Giran->Oren->Aden (36200 C4 26500 C5)
Then
Gludin->Aden (56000)
So take the slow old route (Port to each town)
EDIT: Rereading the posts...everyone else just said reasons as to why the new fees are bad...only citing instances of porting long distances meanig Higher fees...when the overall fees associated with porting from A to B to C have decreased as shown
I mentioned the Orc and Dwarves...as having Gludin being removed...actually the Notes say have added Schugart as part of the quest so one could only hope that they took out the gludin parts.

It will probably getting me banned on this forum if I go on like this as it seems the majority tries to justify the C5 changes.
You know...I love my char...and I love this game...but some changes are really going to push people away rather then attract new ones. And thats the onlye reasonable strategical move I can see for NcSoft = to attract and keep players. They completely went the wrong way with that.
Yah most of these changes will not attract any new players . Most perpective new players are turned off by the massively monotonous grind complaint (magnified even more now by the RB changes, which makes it impossible to easily break the grind) and the unending complaints about the bot problem. And a good portion of the current players will not like them/leave.
