well i've always been dual boxing from the same folder, running the same .exe twice. now i am wondering if there would be any difference if i copy the folder somewhere and run the second client from there?
Correct, but I use two(rtree) different folders, so I can keep different configurations.
My main folder have high gfx details and sfx. activated.
My two othere folders has low gfx and no sound.
Is there anyway to start L2.exe with different L2.ini like writing something like "L2.exe -r l2-a.ini"
Then I could save the L2.ini with the different settings and start from the same folder using a ".bat" file.
I got 2 copies of the client seprated on 2 different HD's to spead up the hd lag by a TON. I can barly run teh game running it on just one HD, the loading lag is just insane.
So if you got 2 HD's I recomend to try that out, and (PS I don't meen 2 partitations, I meen 2 real HD's ) Also they should be on different IDE or SATA channels.

dual raid sata drives?
i run a 7200 rpm drive and even just one copy run in window mode takes 3 mins to load.
just two HD, so they can work independed physically with eche there own reading head(or whats it is called)
So good point, I think I will try installing a secondary HD later today.
Just as been stated in the posts above, if you run the the game from the same folder on all your clients, your options will be the same in all clients when you start, and the game will run fastest.
Running the game from different folders fixes the options "issue" but severely decreases performance of your system, because your HDD will have to read/write in 2 (or more if you have more clients opened) different locations, which is neither smart or good for the health of your HDD.
I say either install another HDD and put your second client on there, or run the second client from another computer.
No it won't run faster, each individual game client need to still load the data on it's own, and just becose the data is located at the same spot dostn solve anything as the HD still need to read it twice.
Why I mentioned 2 HD's becose it can rad from them both at once, the slowest part in ANY computer is the harddrive.
It's capable to read about up to 40MB/s or so on one drive, if 2 programs is trying to access the same harddrive at teh same time, the read headder gonna jump back and fort like hell aka seek time and this is what slows it down if 2 apps want to read at teh same time.
By having 2 HD's the read header of each HD don't need to jump around as much, and only folow what the program wants as long as no other app is using hte HD as well.
Not necessarily. If it is on different drive and it is IDE, then I guess putting it to different channels would speed it up.
SATA drives should not have such channel and master/slave limitations.
However I noticed when I run it from different directory or different drive, it runs much less smoothly, I loose AF focus more often and disks always need to work and I get performance lags. I run it from one directory rather than two.
Haven't tried that other disk yet though, I have 2 disks but in raid0.
