It looks like Raid Bosses now have 4 to 8 times the HP in C5 from a preliminary assessment. Now I suppose that it will take 4+ "perfect" parties and probably more to take them down. This is a huge blow to regular players in regular clans. We had a difficult time fielding 2 good parties for Raids. How are we supposed to do Raids in C5 now? With clan size limits and now alliance limits to 3 clans I can't expect a fully populated alliance to have 4 full parties of the right level and class mix to organize a Raid. That means that it will require massive cooperation between multiple clans / alliances to get a Raid organized.
In my opinion this is a major blow not only in eliminating what was once a nice break from the leveling grind since now it takes massive planning and wastes lots of time to organize a raid but even worse how are normal players going to complete the subclass quests?
Sadly, this may be the last nail in the coffin for me. The one thing I looked forward to was finishing my subclass quest and I almost got there by the end of C4 but was off by less than 1 bloody level. My only hope, as will be for many players, is that some other groups will let me open the coffins when they kill the RB or let me poke Baium with my dagger. At least the changes in RB loot priority may make this easier now.
Can anyone comment on the number of parties and mix required for the following RB in C5:
1> Cabrio
2> Death Lord Hallate
3> Longhorn General Golconda
4> Kernon
5> Baium
Can anyone tell me also whether it is only one person that can open the coffin after killing the RB or can everyone that needs to open it? Similarly for Baium, can everyone that needs to attack him with the quest knife?
NCSoft must address this issue and make an alternate means of completing the subclass quest for players not in a powerful alliance. It makes me so angry that after so much time leveling up to 75 I have to spend possibly weeks of begging to finish this quest. They offer 2 paths for the 3rd class change why not for subclass too?
It does really suck that you cannot just get a group of friends for some nice boss hunting anymore. That is what I was looking forward to in this game. I'd like a decent mix of lvl'n and random fun (i.e. raid bosses), but that has just been shot all to hell.
It is especially bad for us on the kain server, since it is pretty low on the population scale.

Exactly they nerfed things that did not needed a nerf, of course some people will always say NCSoft did the right thing...but that ain't something new.
The reasoning behind it would be much more interesting to know.
This change needed to be done. Its not just a "Made for nukers" event anymore. Melee's hit the raid boss for almost 4x more then they used too. It's not so much of a "Who has the most nukers/recharges now. You need a better mix.
I know its harder, but, it should be hard. Just need to adjust tactics.
Of course some will say they did the right thing, becuase they think the game will be more "hardcore" if you have to grind for 1-2 yrs on basic monster with no other source of experience.
I do not classify that as hardcore. I classify that as bad game design.
I mean RB's atleast gave some sort of slight break in the monotony (sp?). I dont mind grinding for hrs/days to get a lvl, but if there is nothing to do to break it up, then it sucks.
And now, as stated by the op, only people in strong clans/alliances can even think about doing it. Then the time involved in setting it up will completely kill any sort of fun that would have been involved in it.

I tend to agree with this. It had gotten to be almost too easy in some cases. Plus, maybe now us melees will get a few dozen more EXPs from each raid.

They could have done this with a change to RB Pdef / Mdef and still left it possible to take down the RB with 3 or 4 parties. Most of the Raids I went to were with melee types anyway It will take time to tell how it works out. I guess I'll have to bring BSoE when I try them out...

Low level raid bosses should not need BSOE scrolls, they should be designed to give a break from solo hunting and exploring party hunts for newbie characters.
So, is it ok that only people in large clans/alliances will really be the only ones able to do it?
If only people who are well connected are able to actually do RB's then it is not anymore fun for the rest of the server. It basically screws the normal player.
You have to look at it from a "non-well established" point of view. Sure it might be better for you, but what about everyone else who might be in smaller clans? or less active servers?
It is not a blanket fix. It really need to be addressed for the rest of us, who are not in large clans/alliances. We will barely ever be able to get in on the fun, or even complete the subclass quests.

I hate to tell you this, but, the games shifting away from small clans. Look at what there doing to clan mechanics. There setting us up for 2 factions on each server. You can quote me on this. Theres not going to be tons of little clans anymore, theres going to be 3 or 4 surviving clans from the "Chaotic" chronical and the rest will end up merging or moving to a new game. You can quote me on that, i see it coming a mile away.

See my above post ^^
The games shifting. It seems you just started playing recently so you may not have seen the C2-C3 days, but, NC is changing the game towards larger clans. The addition of larger clan size, clan skills, and smaller alliances shows that.
Everyone thinks NC is stupid. Well, I promise that everything they do is more thought out then just the "blanket fix" discription.
I dont really mind class diversification part, since me and my wife are melee.
I just don't really see any likely hood of being able to get any raid setup. It seemed hard enough for people to get the lowbie raids started even in c4, atleast on kain. Now having to get atleast double the people will make it **** near impossible for the "common man" to get in on the RB fun/loot.
So, is it ok that only people in large clans/alliances will really be the only ones able to do it?

lol, that does seem like a good observation. Kinda sucks though that they are aiming for so little diversity.

Do you have friends in those clans/alliances? Why not ask them if you can raid with them once in a while? The worst they can do is say "no".
/agreed
However, the window of time to get organized for some of the key RB is very short. Now that many more parties will be needed will make it much harder to actually get a viable group out to the RB. Time will tell. Perhaps the window of time will now be longer than before IDK. Anyway, I imagine loot distribution will be a royal pain with RB.
On Lionna, there's 4 different sides basically. Chaos, Invincible(sometimes Mirage is also included), the "neutrals", and everyone else. Raiding with anyone but your "side" means long term consequences sometimes. I don't doubt this is any different on some other servers.

Yea, it is alittle odd, but, its going to make people polarize and probably more emotional too. Your not going to have a few little clans ****** off and killing eachother every now and again. Your going to find 2 sides extremely angry at eachother, all high level with good skills, each with 300 people in there alliances. Thats going to make for some interesting flameing/pvping.
This is also going to coincide with Gracia (another continent to the west) if they ever do put it in.
It would help if they introduced a sort of world chat, that would help a LOT in getting a raid going now that they will require many more poeple.
Im from EQ2/AO, so I know about getting 20-80 person raids going. But they atleast had forms of world chat to help get the message out.
I know it is a social game, all mmo's are supposed to be. I'm not new to the concept. But the fact that the chat system is limited, it will be harder for normal people to get them going, but I guess that is the point.

Then you must deal with the situation. Either join one of the stronger allies (if they'll have you) or don't raid. When I was in a small clan or clanless I had no illusions of doing major raids. It's Darwinism at work here, folks. The tough clans get the bosses. The bosses drop the better stuff. The tough clans get tougher. Repeat.
I'm not talking abotu doing major raids. Im talking about random raid bosses out in the wilderness.
Im not under any illusion of taking on Valakas or anthras (sp?) or dungeon bosses with just my small clan.
But I see no reason why the "normal joe" cannot just find a group of 9-18 ppl and take down wilderness RB's. I dont see why it should be limited to only the upper most echelon.

It's the MM in MMORPG - Massive Multiplayer!!
On top of that, L2 is a clan based game. It's not meant to be played as a bunch of solo players who get together periodically to od some RB's.
You think it's bad now, wait until you get higher level. Towards the end game, nearly everything takes a strong clan/alliance to accomplish.
It's the nature of the game. This is a team oriented, organization required game.
Sorry, but it will now be somewhat difficult to lvl from 20 to 40 by simply doing RaidBosses. ;)
But I see no reason why the "normal joe" cannot just find a group of 9-18 ppl and take down wilderness RB's.
Honestly, they should've never been this easy. My humble opinion.
Giving a viable alternative from the L II grind can attract new players and keep up rerolls their motivation.
Granted but I never saw raids as "a break from the grind". To me they were always a way to get better gear/mats. Thats how I got my Majestic mats, afterall. Raids had become so easy, so mundain. Too much so, I think. I remember when it used to be an ordeal then people altered their strategies. What used to take 5 full parties ended up taking 2 full parties. People will adapt.
I can't speak for the 30-50 bosses, but I found the 20-30 to be way too easy. My lvl25 rogue could solo them with pp buffs, and me and my friend could do up to lvl30 ones in a duo.
They weren't big challenging bosses which took a lot of coordination and preparation to take down, they were just first-come-first-serve giant bags of xp and loot.
I was not wanting to lvl from 20 to 40 with RB's. If you read my post, I said I just wanted some short breaks from the grind. I did not want to just lvl off of them. Maybe doing a couple on the weekend or soemthing would have been nice.
And just becuase it is a MMorpg, it does not always have to have content just geared towards full raid parties. But, if it was designed for this then there is no point in argument. I can take the boring grind for yrs just to get somewhere, but basically forcing there to just be a few big clans/alliances it kinda going too far imho.
As for me it kinda kills the last bit of fun I had to look forward to lol.
Honestly, they should've never been this easy. My humble opinion.
to add to that point. i could do my dances (we all know last for 2 min.) and there would be 30sec or so left when the RB was dead. the RB would always be within 5 lvls of the highest party member.

Where is that "somewhere"? The only "somewhere" I can think of involves large clans and alliances. You certainly aren't going to subclass on your own. You're not going to own a castle. Kill the epic bosses. Get the top gear. etc.
Sorry, but it will now be somewhat difficult to lvl from 20 to 40 by simply doing RaidBosses. ;)
And Bighands get the cookie! <hands out cookie>
So, sportsfans, what do we have for the truly NEW player to the game?????
Well, Johnnie, we have a serious nerf compared with all those fortunate enough to have joined the game long enough ago to breeze from 20-40.
Sure is good to have toons over 40 or 50 now, isn't it?
Imo this was a bad move. New players get buffs to 25 and some insta-pots and a weapon. With the exception of the buffs (which have been around awhile now) neither of those other things will get them to C-grade as fast as the older players were able to level.
I'll adjust--and probably not raid as much either. But I still think overall that making lvl 23 raidbosses so much harder and not improving the rewards enough was a sucky thing to do.
I'm just saying I dont see why there is no content except normal mobs, unless you have a huge clan.
Maybe I'm overestimating the RB changes. If it is possible to find a grp of ppl to kill a RB within an hr or less then it is fine. If it is a full day task to organize a raid group just to kill a random wilderness RB, then I dont see how the change is good for the overall population.
If the RB is tied ot a quest, then it SHOULD be hard as hell. I dont think quests should be easy to complete, especially class change quests. But if it is just there, and not tied to anything, then I dont see why it should be impossible for a smallish raid group (10-20 ppl) to kill.
Raid bosses are for Raid groups. 10-20 people is not a raid group, that's a couple of parties.
The low level raid bosses were only simple for 1 chronicle, every other chron, they were just as hard as the higher level one's, so stop crying.
The mistake they made was making them way too easy in C4. Now they're back to regular difficulty.
They were not meant to be leveled on for 20 levels, they were meant, as was said earlier, to be a special event. That's what they are now, get all your friends together on a saturday and go do it.
xephonics , look at it from the other side? You as a fighter, according to your's sig, and you will be more whanted in raids. Now all the random raids whant is a tank, healer/buffer or 2 and nukers. Well at higher lvl a bd and sws add in.
And now it's encouraged for big clans to take in lower level people with the academy system.
How about the GM's spend the next couple of weeks temp banning those who use Party Matching for WTB/WTS crap?
Maybe that would help in forming our Raid Parties. I have no problem with the change; however, it takes a considerable amount of time to organize an efficient Raid Party. Organizing 2 or more, forget it. I'd like to be doing something else rather than constantly shouting for Raiders.
Well, Johnnie, we have a serious nerf compared with all those fortunate enough to have joined the game long enough ago to breeze from 20-40.
WTH? It's just as easy (or difficult) as it was before. Probably easier since you can get any top D weapon (and C) your class needs for the same price.
My point is that one 'catch up' technique for newer players WAS raiding low bosses. Whether that was good, bad I'll leave to others.
It allowed folks like me to get from high 20's to high 30's over the course of say 10-14 days on a toon playing a couple hours per night.
Was that "good" or "fair"? I don't know.
I do know that there is a lot of pressure from in-game friends and clans to level your toon (and personal desire too).
Like others in the past those of us with lower toons we play will just slowly grind them upwards now since RB's aren't a path to serious exp.
Folks raiding the lower bosses (20's-30's) haven't been raiding them for drops for a long time---there weren't any legitimate drops (and from what I've heard and seen so far there still aren't). We raided for faster exp.
We raided in groups (contrary to ridiculous accounts by someone claiming a buffed lvl 25 dagger user solo'd a lvl 25 boss). Generally we raided in groups of not less than 8 players.
It also allowed us, coming late into the game, to "try out" different characters better. I have 14 toons on different servers--only 2 of which are in C-grade and only 1 in B-grade. I think 6 of the remaining 11 are past first class change. I believe I have one of every kind of toon except summoner (yet). On many of those toons you don't see what they are like till significantly after lvl 30.
Raiding, whether bad or good, was a way to more quickly run a toon up and check out that class.
The RB changes aren't going to be all bad. I hope they are disproportionally MORE difficult the higher your level. I will say that we'll have to adjust to not having the option to throw 8-9 strangers together for lowbie raids--it's probably the single reason my friends list grew on all toons on the servers I play.
It's certainly how I met my eventual clanmates and friends.
A sad casualty of the low RB change is that from a cost/benefit point of view, it is probably not worth the time it will now take to get together a group of 18 (instead of 8) to go after Kuroburos Priest by gludin. In the couple hours it will take to coordinate that all players will learn they could have done better in regular hunting and drops and exp.
I'm guessing all RB's will be done by aspiring clans now. Not necessarily a bad thing--but it will be sad to see the end of the "pick up" group. For me they were fun, challenging (despite what others say), and a really good way to get to know strangers in game.
I'm not "wrong" for regretting that change.
No screenshot, but, same buffs as i used to have, TSS hit for 300. This time around i was hitting it for 900. Regular hits for 100, crits for 200, where it used to be like 30 and 60.

These people have no idea how difficult 1-40 was during Beta/Prelude compared to now.
Unfortunately I don't have a screenshot of me soloing the beast near ascetics necro, but if you take a look at these shots it shouldn't be hard to conclude that it was perfectly possible.
Those are only the raids which dropped nicely, we did at least twice as many where they just dropped junk not worth screenshotting.
Look at our hp. We didn't need a healer as medium heal potions were fine (in the first shot I'm not even wearing any pants). You can see the damage Abyss Flyer was doing to me in shot 146. Since we're not nukers, we can go on forever even when our mana runs out. Soloing level 20-25 bosses with minions using full PP buffs and a dagger was no problem at all.
Well i have done all rb between lvls 30-65 and gotta say if in c5 i cant raid anymore i dont see the reason of why should i play this game anymore. All i have to say about raiding it was a nice fast exp, very cheap, and players could make good money on them. With those prices on the market now, its impossible to buy anything if u just go and lvl all day killing mobs, and i am not planing on spending my real money everytime i have to change grade. i really liked how they try to even the classes with the skills, but why did they have to go and mess with the stuff that made this game so much fun :(
Coming from an alliance where no one is under level 75, I can tell you that with 4 full parties (two mage, 1 dagger, 1 archer) we had a hard time with a lot of bosses. We even called in backup for Lilith and had an additional party brought from another alliance, all of whom were 77-78, she owned us. As soon as her minions respawned it was over, her ****ed knight would one shot the healers.. I was on an EE at the time level 78 and I got hit for 6700 damage. We attempted her twice before calling it quits.
We weren't gimped parties either, everyone had a bd/sws.. mages all with 78 BD's. Victory, POF, POW, all present for these raids.
Later that night I watched Gustin's alliance of raidboss farmers attempt her, they brought two entire clans worth of people to kill her, they wiped out 4 times in the process, however exp isn't important to them so they simply ally rezzed (with the new range) rebuffed, got more MP and tried again. It took approximately 40 spellhowlers (in addition to all their support classes) 27 minutes start to finish to kill her, with several ally rezzes in between.
What I have noticed is the hp regen of raidbosses has been MAJORLY slowed, I'd say she regenned about 1% per minute. So it was pretty much no problem for them to get her down 1/4 health, log/die, rebuff get mp back and just go at her again.
I'd like to congratulate NCSoft on this one.
Previously if a raidboss spawned my clan had about 10 minutes give or take to make it to this raidboss before the farmers did, and if they did come we were usually able to kill them and finish the boss before they returned. Now though, the lookouts are slowly being brought back to the raidbosses, if it spawns it takes 15 minutes just to get 4 parties of people together to kill these raidbosses, let alone travel time, and kill time. Coupled with the fact that the farmers WILL pk you if you're doing the boss, starting with the tank. I was hoping after seeing lilith die that we'd have a fighting chance against farmers now since it took them so long to kill her. Today, however, I followed them around around for a bit to watch them take other bosses. Granted, they have their whole crew now instead of spreading each of their 3 clans among different raidboss spawns, but the raidbosses were dropping in under a minute. 60 spellhowlers CDLing will drop any raidboss faster than 4 parties of mages/archers/daggers ever could.
Gratz NCSoft on helping farmers get more raidbosses, I can only hope you do something useful with the points they're getting. I hope that when you see theres 80 people on the server with 5 million raid points it raises some little flag somewhere and you ban them. Then again I've been promised by many of your staff several times that "you know who the farmers are you just need evidence to ban them".
To that I say, our raidboss farmers just got their first noble, her name is Village, she has an EE main that is 78. I saw the 2nd noble today. Within a month or so I estimate the entire alliance (minus their new clan Dualsword) will all be nobles, with the ability to port wherever they want, whenever they want to take any raid boss they want - specifically toi (they really love baium). These guys have been on this server since C3, its now C5, you're telling me that in an entire chronicle plus some you can't find enough evidence to ban these people?
The only people that say Raid Bosses were too easy are the ones that have taken their xp out of them and moved above all that.
Lineage2 is 1 long grind after another, and the ONLY reason i (like many other players) did raids was to get away from the boredom. 20 minutes of getting a party together, followed by 20 minutes of getting everyone ready, followed by 10 minutes of killing used to give me LESS xp than if i was in a necropolis or catacomb with a polearm.
I don't want to be in a large clan. I don't want to be involved in the infantile "my clan is better than your clan because...." arguements.
A raid used to allow us normal players to blend in with a group and have some fun, without anyone making fun of the fact that we were using a Tarbar and not the most expensive weapon in that class. Not everyone playing the game has a character over 65 or buys adena from farming companies.
I'd like to get to one of the new areas designated for my level..... but i think 100k for teleporting there, then 100k to get back is more than i can afford when you take into account that i need potions and SS to hunt solo (remember NCSoft claim this chronicle is solo-play-friendly).
So..... can't spare the cash to go see/hunt the new areas, and can't go to raids, and with only top-of-the-grade weapons or equipment being manafactured and still costing tens/hundreds of millions, it's not much fun anymore.
People seem to forget that these changes are made for the koreans mostly and us secondary and wont be changed because some of us dont like it. 40 and under raid bosses should be easier but I think the higher level ones should be as they are. I like the raid boss changes and if I had to choose between new and old I would choose the new changes.

I would say the above 60 normal player is in a clan or an alliance so I dont really see what you're getting at.
well since most of us are refering to lvl 20-39 RB's i dont see what your getting at about lvl 60+ players....
of course i think there should always be some boss type monster that 1-2 teams can take out. I'm not saying all of them should be, or even the majority of them. I just tyhink there should be some small raid group content as well
no, this thread encompasses more than just 20-39. I read the whole thread and some were talking about all raids and some talking 20-39. As I already stated once before 20-39 lowering is fine by me. They did have mini raid bosses, dont you remember c3 and older? They used to drop halfway decent items like blades etc but guess what? They were getting exploited so they got rid of their drops then got rid of them altogether. So it has already been proven that 1-2 person raid bosses just get exploited for their gear/xp but I am fine with the lower level raids being a lot easier than they are now.
Well i have done all rb between lvls 30-65 and gotta say if in c5 i cant raid anymore i dont see the reason of why should i play this game anymore. All i have to say about raiding it was a nice fast exp, very cheap, and players could make good money on them. With those prices on the market now, its impossible to buy anything if u just go and lvl all day killing mobs, and i am not planing on spending my real money everytime i have to change grade. i really liked how they try to even the classes with the skills, but why did they have to go and mess with the stuff that made this game so much fun :(
there are othe rlegit ways to make money you know :S
Its probably not what you're looking for, but in c3, my SO hit for 5-10 damage. Yesterday he hit for 30-40 with his dual swords. Pretty nice boost, though a little bit of it was having holy weapon against undead (so take off about 25% to get normal damage). Melee definitely is hitting harder.
I can't see what all the fuss here is about. Yesterday, with two less than full parties, we killed 3 lvl 35 RB's. Good xp (for the tank/melee group, much more xp than ever before), mediocre drops. I don't see the problem?
Can anyone comment on the number of parties and mix required for the following RB in C5:
1> Cabrio
2> Death Lord Hallate
3> Longhorn General Golconda
4> Kernon
5> Baium
I haven't seen anyone comment on the above yet. If you have any C5 experience on any of the above RB please reply. Even if you didn't take down the RB at least indicate what type of parties you had and how it went.
