I just hit 51 and started looking for B grade armor. Am I missing something or am I going to have to take a M-Atk hit if I want to "upgrade" my armor.
Currently I have a Demon set and my M-atk is 840. If I remove say the gloves and lose the +4 INT bonus, my M-atk drops to 735. The best M-atk bonus in B grade is Zubei at +10% M-atk. So by my calc I will lose 105 M-atk when I take off the demon and gain 73.5 M-atk when I put on the Zubei so I get a net loss of 31+ M-atk by "upgrading".
Can this be right? Someone tell me I am missing or forgetting something.
Karmian lacks pdef compared to Avadon. Also, the pdef of Demon doesnt matter if you play the duo of nuker/SE/EE and 1-2 shot 1xhp mobs all the way thru. Demon has worked just fine on SH, but hey, B2M is a nice addition ;)
well to be fair demon set does have some pretty strong negatives to it
as overpowered as us mages are C grade pdef does kinda suck when you get high lvl and the loss of hp and cast speed makes survival tricky when things go wrong
currently i wear avadon (use dc set only for pvp) and have demon set in inventory
if there is a mob in my area that i need abit more mattack to 2 or 1 hit i put on the demon set
basically you go for the best xp per hour in pve and if the best mob requires you to wear demon set you should do so
if the best mob for your lvl can be 2 hit without demon set dont use it
cast speed is king in pve if you pick the right spot
Aye, this thing should be a sticky ^^
Nameless, we'll, SoM acumen and the SE/EE do help at higher lvls, but you're right on the fact that ppl should use demon only if the extra mattk is really needed. However, despite Demons shortcomings it is still a set that can be used to go for the max with a buffer. If you want to play it real cheap and not buy higher armors ;)
Kinda sucks that they made an entire grade of robe armor that nukers can't use without losing their bread and butter.
I was looking forward to upgrading. With the demon sets -HP and low D-def I feel like I am running around in tissue paper. (not to mention that I cast slow enough as it is w/o the -wit)

well i always have the demon set in inventory in case i need it
problem is at high lvls its hard to find a mob with xp high enough to take that much of a hit in cast speed
at B grade you can get like 4k from a 2 hit mob and a 30 second walk will take you to another mob you can 2 hit with demon set that gives 6k xp
im finding it harder and harder to put the thing on these days but i gotta go back and farm moonstone shards so i guess ill hang onto it for now ;)

Thanks for the help,

Most Nuker classes use there CG setup from CG - AG & save to buy AG Armour. If you really want to get a BG set, they will usually go with Avadon, if you have the money for it. Either way as a nuker you want a setup that increases either MP or Casting Spd or even both :)
Well instead of buying b grade weap and armour, might just upgrade your homu to a +8 - 10. Prolly cost almost the same as buying a Sov SA acu and either zubei/avadon armour.
Me i used carmian and homu +6 into the 60ies. Only bad thing was the 3 bsps but hell whats one extra trip to the town.
Hehe i was more suggesting that insted of buying a SoV might sell his homu and buy a +8+. Unless he feels lucky though. I mean a +10 homu got almost or maybe even as much matk as a reg SoM except that the acu SA doesnt cost your pants and makes u ********** yourself. :p And it should give u a very quick lvling speed til a grade and a normal speed in your 60ies and 70ies, well maybe a bit slow in your 70ies but hell its kinda slow already. And i believe a +8 should be enough for VoS since most dmg is overkill there.

cbsps is cheaper then bsps, but you need more of it so the price will add up, especially with a nuker.
Not really, on Kain Cbsps is 108 and you need 3 per shot so that's 324 a shot.
Bbsps is only one a shot so you can carry more and it's around the same price.
Sorry, I should of said, depending on what server your on.
Sieg server, CShots are worth less then BShots, but you need more CShots (3 vs 1) then BShots.
For a spellhowler, I'd actually recommend Avadon full time.
Why? B2M and being able to cast it often is a big deal.
The higher your cast speed, the better your recast rate.
You will hit less hard than in Demon, but your damage output over time and solo efficiency (due to more B2M casts) will actually be better on mobs that are still two-hits.
Hold onto the demon for lucrative mobs that require just that little extra to 2-hit.
FYI, Matk is a VERY weak stat s it is square-rooted in the damage calculation.
The difference between 840Matk and 810Matk is considerably less than you'd think.
sqrt 840 = 29.98
sqrt 810 = 28.46
Thats almost 95% of the actual effectiveness.
Avadon is also a good investment as you will more than likely get your money back... especially if you craft it.

If he can get an SOV with Acumen on it... do it.
Grades that are too far below your own cause FAILED spells.
That homu +7 may have similar Matk, but it is not as good.
SoV + Acumen is better especially when you get to 6x mobs and the homu starts failing more.
Being one grade behind on weapon is fine... being two grades behind starts becoming less than optimal in a hurry.
You can wear Avadon + SoV(acumen) for a lot longer and be a lot more effective...

SOV does look better, but I was thinking on my Prophet a Homu will still do the same job as a SOV, even if my Prophet is in BG & the Homu is CG. It really depends on what class you are, a Prophet doesn't really heal or have to cast/spam many skills well in a group. They bascially buff before the mob round & follow the group to heal if needed (SE/EE/Bishop out of mp or low) They don't really need to worry about casting failing considering they don't do much of it anyways. :p

A heal never fails you know, it can get interrupted but that has nothing to do with your weapon.

Actually I wasn't really leaning towards heals, but more if I'm in a big group & cast root. I still think if I'm BG using Homu sword, or SOV my Root will still land the same.
i tend to disagree with all of the above posters. zubei is worth it, avadon is certainly worth it, and nightmare > demons for pve in A by a HUGE margin.
its your weapon you really dont need to worry about if you have some ballz. get a homu (or eclyptic axe) up to +8 and you can skip the SOV. it will be ok to use even in low 60's but difficult to continue using. if you box an SE, no worries for your weapon until 65+ at that time you should have been able to at least paid for a bare SOM/eye and can now grind out a couple more mil for the SA.
It all depends on what it takes to 2shot a mob. If you do it with no need for extra matk, use avadon. If you do it only needing a bit more matk, go zubei (no casting speed --, and you have your full hp if you get into danger.) If you need a lot more matk, use demon.
If you have a lot of adena, keep all 3 sets. If not.. zubei is middle of the road, better cast speed than demon, better matk than avadon.

bingo.
I went all through my b grade using Avadon. The slower casting of Demon drove me nuts. Though keep in mind, Acumen SA didn't exist then.
Lots of great info here. I did manage to snag a +11 Hom sword (with acumen) to replace my +3 Ghoul staff. I have 3 of the 5 parts to the Zubei armor. With Demon at 52 I have an M-atk of 870. I expect to be about 810 in Zubei. I am not sure what level you go to A, but I have been checking out the A grade armor. I don't see any great shakes upgrading there either. There is one with a +2int and a +8% matk. That might atleast even things out.
I guess you are all right, it is a matter of efficiency. If I am 2 hitting mobs and the first hit is 70% of their total HP, then I am wasting power on the second shot and need to look for something slighly higher so I max exp for the 2 hit MP and shots. The exact same principles will apply to the armor. If I find what I want to hunt and I can 2 shot in either set, I wear the Zubei.
Well your most important consideration will be the least important for the peopl who have made up all the statistics and have it all figured out.
In the end, wear what you like most, and try to get some advantages from your armour or weapons...it will keep you focussed on the game, and you will be less dissapointed (rather motivated because you need to increase your playing skills) when something goes wrong.

I look better in Zubei!!!

whats importent to a SH is cast speed cause it makes your skills refresh faster.
so your btm will cool down faster, and so will shadow flair if you want to over hit alot more often.
I did zubie on my NECRO and I wish I didn't the lowered MP regen sucks...and from what I understand SH has some really poor mp regen.

Um , the grade has nothing to do with anything, it's all about the matk. A +7 homu is the same or slighter better matk than a +3 SOV; at one point I had both. That's all you have to worry about, and maybe shot weight/usage between the two.
Personally I do not play the SH for the 2-hit pony everyone seems to ride. Pimp out the matk as much as possible, find low aggro regions, and CDL to all hell. Generally I recommend zubei for good pdef and decent total hp. Carry regular heal pots. Nuke Nuke BTM heal pot Nuke Nuke BTM heal pot (optional 3 nuke depending on hunting spot). The benefit of the regular pots is that they don't "overheal" you out of CDL, yet you always have one active. It is best to select mobs that you hit for about 105-110% of their health. This keeps nuke failures to a minimum.
While CDLing, don't just "set and forget." Select a target, initiate CDL, but hit hurricane while CDL is casting. If the CDL fails, the hurricane will already be pumping to finish off the mob. This saves you from the attack failed, you're dead combo. You will also cancel the hurricane automatically if the mob was one hit by the CDL. If both fail, you still have the healpot active. If it is on the second CDL mob (or third depending on your hunting grounds) you should have plenty of hp to take one hit from the mob. As long as it isn't a stun cast, you can normally survive even crits from a B grade mob. I suggest avoiding stunning mobs unless you have an SE in tow. Hold the shift key in rapid spawn regions to keep from running around while targetting. This will leave you with very few adds that you don't expect. At this point, you are CDLing with TWO backup procedures in place to prevent death. Even if you die once every 2 hours, you will still be far ahead on total exp for the day compared to the other technique.
A talented CDL SH is the fastest exp in Lineage 2.
No matter what set you are wearing you will probably need 2 shots to kill most of the 1X mobs you will hunt. For situations were you get agro/social mobs spawn nearby you want casting speed to clean up the mess. This leads us to the Avadon set as a best choice.
I wear Avadon on my level 56 SH. I have +4 Int and +4 Wit tats, and a +7 homonculus. I can 2 shot many yellow and light red mobs (1X). I still need 2 shots for the green and white mobs, and a little more matck wont change that. If mobs are 1/2X, then I can usually 1 shot them.
If I actually found a white/green mob that only had a sliver of health left after 1 shot, I would switch to a Demon set when I hunted there.
