How do you craft?

Player Questions Started Last reply 11 posts
I purchased the game online so I don't have a book. I have searched the forums but only see 60% craft posts that do not help me any. I have a dwarf and I have recipes but when I try to use them it tells me I do not have the skill.
Can you post some more details about what recipes you have and did you learn your craft levels and what your level is?

Typically, you need to learn the needed level of item craft. Then you need to register the recipe in your recipe book.
How do you learn a level of item craft? I did not see any craft trainers. I am currently level 5 on the dwarf and was just curious about crafting since I have picked up the recipes and have some crafting materials.
The trainers for the dwarf fighter are in the warehouse you can go in there to learn your skills.

By the way, what are you going to try and craft?

There are two types of recipes, common craft and, er... uh... the "other/regular" craft.

Common craft is something that anyone can do. Depending on your lvl you can make potions for changing hair, greater healing potions, monocles, eye patches, face change potions, etc.

However, what you are probably asking about is the "other" craft. Of course, only dwarves can do that.

Before I say more, I'll just tell you that lower lvl recipes (recipes for equipment) aren't really worth anything. People tend to level out of that range relatively quickly so anything you make will be for your own use if for anyone.

The recipes are color coded though I can't really remember which colors are for which lvls. You can double click on the recipe and if you are a dwarf you should get a message asking if you want to put it in the crafting book. If you are of lvl to use it you will be able to put the recipe in. If it is too high it will indicate.

Thereafter, if you want to craft something you open your crafting book, double click on the recipe and a window pops up that lists what you need, what you have and a button to craft it.

This is all from memory as I know they've changed crafting a bit, but it should get you started.
And to add to that.... If your on lionna.

I can give you some recipes for what i call resource crafting...

Leather, steel, etc

er... uh... the "other/regular" craft.

Technically known as "Dwarven Craft." :)

Is that what the kids are calling it these days? :o

I try to stay "hip" to their "lingo."

At Level 5 on your dwarf, you get two crafting skills; common craft, and dwarven craft. Common craft is for recipes that are green (and originally obtained through fishing.) You get this skill automatically.

Dwarven craft is the 'normal' craft. This is the one I think you are asking about. You have to 'learn' this skill. If you have 310 SP (skill points) you can learn this skill from either of the blacksmiths in the Blacksmith shop. Click on them twice and click on "learn Skills." It will bring up a menu of available skills, including one that looks like orange tongs, labled 'Create Item.' Click this one and click "Learn." It will respond, "you have learned Create Item.'

This puts the skill in your list of Active Skills. You still need to 'register' your recipe before you can use it. Open your inventory and double-click the recipe. If it is a level one recipe, it will respond, "Registration is irreversable, do you wish to continue?' Click, 'yes.' Now the recipe is in your recipe book, and you can create this item. (You can only register recipes of a level equal to, or below, your create-item skill level.)

Open your Character Status, and select 'Skills,' then 'active skills.' You should see the Orange tongs symbol (actually, you will see two of them, the 'common craft' one looks the same.) Double click the dwarven-craft one (or drag it to a Hot Bar key, and then click the key,) and it will bring up a recipe book.

If you registered a dwarvern recipe but the recipe book you are looking at is blank, you clicked the Common-Craft Icon. Close that book and click the other Icon.

In the recipe book you will see the recipe you registered (only the icon isn't a recipe icon, it is the icon of the item you will craft.) Double click it, and it brings up a menu that lists all the ingredients needed. If you have all the necessary ingredients in your inventory (not your warehouse) all the icon boxes will be full-colored. If you are missing any item, that icon will be grayed-out. Hovering over the grey icon will tell you how many more you need.

When all the boxes are full-colored, click the 'Ok' box, and the item will be created. (Well, unless it is a recipe that gives you only a chance to create the item, but those recipes you won't see til much later.) You will get messages telling you what ingredients 'disappeared' and which item you 'earned' (in yellow.)
Thanks all for the responses. Angdil, that is a great response and tells me exactly what I needed to know!
