Hello Adventurers!
I just bought an account and started playing L2 on Franz couple of days ago. Having fun I must admit! However I could really use some of your help. Does the colour of the mob influence the qty of exp I receive ? I know that I get less from green than from white, but do I get some negative bonus for killing greens ?
2nd question - is it true that while in a party (duo) each person receives a bonus resulting that total exp from a mob is a little bit higher ? Is it more efficient to party with similar level as one have ?
Green and whites will give the same amount of EXP, SP and drops. There is no longer a penalty for Greens. It's a great way to hunt since the mobs aren't as tough. Light blue and dark blues have severe drop and EXP/SP penalties.
I'll see (if someone doesn't beat me to it) if I can find the grouping bonus chart...
Oh, and welcome to the forums and L2. BTW, Franz is experiencing some lag issues at the moment. They are working on it.
To improve the benefits of hunting in a small party, the party experience bonus obtained when killing monsters has been changed as follows:
* 2 member party 7% -> 30%
* 3 member party 14% -> 39%
* 4 member party 23% -> 50%
* 5 member party 31% -> 54%
* 6 member party 40% -> 58%
* 7 member party 50% -> 63%
* 8 member party 61% -> 67%
Elrohir has pretty much covered it (in record time :) )
Greens are your best bet, hunting in small parties make for good xp (and a good way to make friends) and hopefully the lag on Franz will be resolved soon.
Enjoy those low level parties though...people are a lot friendlier, I think, when they are level 20- than when they are level 20+. Oh...and a word of advice...if someone randomly comes up to you and attacks you without a weapon in their hand, and their name turns purple...try to ignore them. It's just a scam to get you to attack them...at which point the person slaps on their high powered armor and weapons and proceeds to liquify your remains for any wildlife in the area to slurp up through a straw. :D

:D :D :D
Thank you...thank you...I'm here on weekends and days ending with Y. Honestly though...I've never been a victim to this in all of my recent time on the Kain server (meaning when I got back into playing the game) but I WAS fortunate to have it happen to me back in closed beta. When it happens while you're below level 10 on a server where your characters could be reset whenever the developers want to and put back to level 5, it's not all that big a deal. However there are plenty of PKers who go to places like the Abandoned Camp (which isn't so abandoned, btw...such blatant false advertising!) and straight out kill people...for no reason whatsoever. So it wouldn't really surprise me for someone to try to be clever about it and kill people without getting any PK counts or red flags.
Those who say greens and whites give the same exp they are referring to the same creature. If it is different creatures i.e. a green wolf and a white goblin the exp will be different, it will be up to you to determine which is better to kill.
Keep in mind something here. The name of this game may be "Lineage 2" but it should be "Efficiency". A good example is this: When I was level 44 or 45 my Spellhowler (a high level damage dealing caster) and my Shilien Elder (a good healer and buffer) were over in an area called Dragon Valley. In the eastern end of this valley is a cave which, if you have undergone the quest and have the key, leads to a dragon that could BBQ a very high level person in seconds (which I guess is why people form clans and more than one high level person tries to kill him...but I digress). To get more to the point there are high 50ish and level 60ish mobs in this cave...but outside of the cave are much easier mobs to kill. The point is this: I could go into that cave and, if I was very careful, pull a mob and kill it. In the process, though, I spent a lot of mana and time doing it...even though I got what seemed like a LOT of experience. This taught me a few things: 1. You have the ability to kill mobs that are a lot higher than you (except raid bosses...don't even try alone). 2. Doing that is a waste of time and very risky. 3. In the time it takes me to kill a mob like that I could have been out killing 5 or 6 weaker mobs much more safely, for better overall experience, and with less mana and health wasted in the process.
On the flip side you don't want to go around killing little imps that give you 50 exp in one hit when you could go up to something like a wolf and get 200 in a few little hits of a sword (or a nuke or two...depending on what kind of character you are doing)...

Trying to raise cowards here? :)
I say: Fight!. If someone wants PvP, he or she gets PvP. Bring it on, whoever you are, whatever army you bring with you.

If they want to kill me, they're going red. I am not going to just be a free PvP point to some C grader hanging around a newbie village.

Sure...that's all fine and dandy...up to level 4 (or was it 5) when someone has no chance of losing any items, but it is rather stupid to risk losing that precious armor or weapon you bought by scrounging money up from goblins and wolves and then having some *** come up to you and pulling that little prank so he doesn't get a PK count and then taking whatever item you might drop...just because they can. Oh yeah...makes plenty of sense to me. Especially the part where it's a forest bow vs a BoP or something. When you have high level friends or a clan backing you up...sure...then you can go nuts and play along with it and set yourself up to be killed...knowing the person who screwed with you will get revenge. In the meanwhile someone new might want to play things a little cooler than that.

I would have to agree with this. I have never seen anyone flagging using their fist who couldn't obliterate their opponent in one shot.
When I first started this game people would do this. And I would "fight" (though quite frankly, "fighting" implies that I actually last long enough for a second hit) only to be one hit/shot/obliterated, etc.
If someone hits you and it is a reasonable fight, fight back
If somone hits you but you realize it is going to be a hard fight, fight back.
You cannot drop items during PvP (unless red with 6+ pks). You do lose some xp and they get a free PvP point, you don't even lose xp if under level 5.
I am not suggesting one should always fight back; just don't worry about losing items in PvP. Making them go red is probably the harshest penalty a low level can give someone who wants to kill them (besides getting them on a high level clans KoS list lol).
Revenge is overrated. Until a few days ago, I never had a clan. I never backed down, though. I never will, either. It's not about revenge, it's about standing your ground. It's about learning the game, too.
L2 is a game full of people who want to abuse you - "trainers", gankers, PKers, scammers. It has a lot of cheaters, too. You better get used to it fast and learn to deal with it. In the light of this, not learning how to fight and which fights to pick (and you won't, ever, if you just let yourself get killed every time without raising your weapons) is plain bad advice, IMHO.
Who said don't defend yourself? No one. However, it is stupid to try and fight someone 2 grades higher than you just so they can get their jollies. If it's something you want to do? Go for it. More power to you. How does one learn how to PvP when they die after striking one useless blow?
I understand the point, though I've heard to the contrary about (no matter how rare) of losing items in PvP. I just think until you have friends or allies to back you up not to make it open hunting season on you. To put a nice spin on it...every single person who joins the Lineage 2 world joins it ALONE unless they know someone or have friends. That means it's like they're the new kid at a school where anyone could be a bully. And, if you're a scrawny new kid (which below level 40 you are very....very scrawny) keeping your head down low is the best way to go until you have some levels and belt under your experience that could tell a potential clan that you'd be a good person to add to the team.
I mean it's great, and all, that you can log off frustrated, down 30%, 50%, or 70% but knowing you didn't back off, but doing the whole macho thing in an online roleplaying game is pointless. I mean what are you going to do...go up to your wife or husband after playing a session and smile because you lost a level, which was valuable playing time for you, but said you were a great person to pick on because you never thought discretion was the better part of valor? THAT, IMHO, is bad advice.
How does one learn how to PvP when they die after striking one useless blow?
How indeed? In fact how does one person even level up to become stronger so they CAN PVP if they keep getting stepped on by the local area bully?
(...) How does one learn how to PvP when they die after striking one useless blow?
You learn some valuable lessons:
- How to recognize what people really are and want. For example, you learn to recognize the equipment and get a first-hand account of its effectivness. :)
- Psychological warfare (that's the part that happens before the first blow).
- Dealing with death and XP loss.
Hell, this C-grader might be a nice person, just bored. Who knows, you might've just found a future clan mate. Or someone you'll love to kill later in the game.
(...) How does one learn how to PvP when they die after striking one useless blow?
You learn some valuable lessons:
Precisely...you LEARN not to make yourself an acceptable target.
You LEARN not to keep going back to that same specific area and to try to find a different one not occupied with someone who's "bored". To my crazy and insane mind I would think if someone was bored playing the game they should...oh...I dunno...log off and do something else?
Lets examine your points though:
- How to recognize what people really are and want. For example, you learn to recognize the equipment and get a first-hand account of its effectivness.
Yes...you will recognize that when a dark elf with a glowing blue weapon (like a heavily enchanted homu or SoM) comes up to you and casts a spell that does several thousand points of damage because your m.def is like like tissue paper, you get a good feel for how effective anyone above your level is with their weapons and how easily you were killed.
- Psychological warfare (that's the part that happens before the first blow).
I can see this one in effect AFTER the first time someone attacks the aggressor back with an apprentice wand or a short sword and then gets wiped out in 2.3 seconds. Then here comes ANOTHER person doing the same thing...or actually wearing A or S grade gear and just...staring at you. Great...wonder when THIS person's going to screw with me...
Dealing with death and XP loss.
Yep...add in the first two points above and you get two kinds of people: The ones who keep coming back, defending themselves in a futile gesture, and then slaughtered or the people who learn what to watch for and RUN AWAY or GET HELP! That or, as I said, find a new area to kill in.
Wow, you must've been ganked a lot in no-grade. :eek:
Seriously, I've been attacked a few times on the newbie grounds (died a few times, too), but at most by some D-graders. Not that it mattered to me. :) There has been more tries to train me that I care to remember, most of them ending with me killing the train, immediately challenging the "trainer" to fight for himself instead, and him or her backing down ... psychological warfare at its best.
And of course the countless scammers.
That's about it.
Sure, I lost a few % dying here and there to other players (never to mobs :D). I stopped caring at about level 3 ...
What do you lose? At most some XP. At this levels (no-grade to D-grade), they don't matter. You most likely have too few SPs anyway and can use the occasional delevelling and the extra adena. On the other hand, PvP is a part of this game, as are those "bad" people. Grin, congratulate them to their PVP point they so bravely won, and keep having fun at the game.
That's the other part of the psychological warfare ... those people are attacking newbies because they like to make them cry. They get their jollies from making other people miserable. Don't play their game. Let them know they don't and can't hurt you. Even if you decide not to attack them ... it doesn't mean you're a victim, just that you decided not to fight, this time (not that I'd ever decide that :)). Let them know it. Don't play their game, make them play yours.

I wasn't "ganked" very much at all as an NG...I was a very quick study and simply avoided the areas that tended to deplete my exp bar rather than add to it. It's very well understood what their motivations are for doing the things they do...because they can or want to or feel like it. However the more you talk about all the more it seems to agree with what we are saying. I said, initially, don't hit them back because it's a trick/trap, you said to defend yourself at all times, and now you're saying just because you refuse to attack them does not make you a victim but means you aren't playing their game. Looks like it's all come full circle. :)

No, I still say hit them back. With all you have, and this includes psychological tricks - those you won't learn until you try. I can understand why you'd rather not do it ... I just don't think it's a valuable advice to newbies.
Fight back. You have nothing to lose but yourself.
You have plenty to lose...time and progress...even if you don't lose any EXP. If given a choice between dying 1 or 2 times in a place like, say, the dark forest because someone's being an *** and then moving on to a different area OR going to that same area and trying to defend myself in a futile manner...I'd pick the more productive path. It's pure logic.
L2 is a time sink. No matter what you do, you "lose" time anyway. That's how hobbies are. You "lose" the exact same time no matter if you're XPing or dealing with a griefer or chatting with friends and clannies or shopping in Giran or hunting for mats ... that's all part of the game.
At the levels we're talking about, you can't lose "progress" either. Not until you hit A-grade. Before that, all you can lose is XP, and even than only very small amounts. You actually gain adena and SPs, compared to your level, when you die to other players often.
So ... no, you can't really lose anything. Just yourself. :)
No metaphysics involved. Just a simple reasoning: You're in the game to be someone else, somewhere else. Maybe even a hero, who knows, or maybe just the biggest scammer of the world. In any case, I haven't meet anyone who plays to be a coward.
Letting other players force you to become one anyway means losing. It's the only kind of loss that matters, really (although losing friends hurts too, in the end everyone we know will left us anyway, so that's easier to deal with). Your characters becomes something you didn't want, and you let it happen. You didn't fight. You lost ... yourself.
Oi...there's no reason to it...just your preference/philosophy. Having a 4 year old kid stand up to a 35 year old man with an abusive mean streak doesn't make much sense...why would it in game? It'd make much more sense to avoid the issues when possible so you can go about your way and do the things you intended to do rather than the things you have to react to. Granted there will be situations you can't avoid...and standing up, I suppose, is unavoidable. So be it...but if someone is getting their jollies killing a very weak person over and over, and they believe it's ******* that weak person off, nothing's really going to dissuade them from doing it except a lack of target or a desire to avoid getting a red tag. A short sword or a forest bow aren't going to do crap to a C-grade+ person. They might even think the person is getting annoyed and thats why they are fighting back...so all the more reason to kill them.

Because, as opposed to real life, you don't stand to lose anything in the game?

"When possible". Chose your battles, sure.
You're way past the point where you can chose when you're already in the field, engaging other players.

As I said a few times already ... make sure they know you're not playing their game, you're not getting annoyed. Make them play your game, don't play theirs. Take initiative.
Fight. Not just with your character's statistics, either.
