As far as I know the only bonus of having a sponsor is the D grade armor. Generaly, I would hope, since the sponsor would feel responsible for their trainnee, he would pay for the D crystals for that quest.
But more to the point, the hole point really of having a sponsor and academy members is too encourage "old time" players to help out new players and encourage large high level clans to recruit lower levels.
Before C5 came out, the only way you would get into a "major" clan/ally was by being lvl 61+. I think it must really be depressing for new players seing shouts " Clan XXXX, recruiting 61+ ". I truly think this is one of the best things NCSoft did in C5 is introducing this system. Although its doesnt have huge rewards, its certanly beneficial to all members involved.
When the student completes his 2nd class change quest the clan gains 150 +/- rep points. So taking in "newbies" and alts are very beneficial towads gaining Royal Guard or clan skills =)
There's no real benefit, mechanic wise, to having a sponsor that I've noticed. You get no extra rep points at all. It seems the only benefit is a newbie/lowbie garning the experience and possible friendship of a higher level player.
I just leveled a character through my clans academy and got 210 rps. 170 for being over lvl 16 and 40 more for the 4 levels I gained while in the academy. I was lvl 36 when I joined. I also sponsered myself, since I had two accounts, and was curious what it was in the beginning.
I think there needs to be a sticky considered on one of these sponsers/clan armour/apprentices/academies etc threads, this is like the 5th one I've seen this evening.
People looking for answers, please do a forum search or just browse through, we've answered the ole questions when it comes to this topic a fair few times now.
