... if its like all the other events done this year, the terrible drop rates will make it pretty much worthless (to me at least). I know the last two events (letters and seeds), I didnt even bother hunting since the drops were just as bad as basic material drops (nearly non-existant). I wonder if NCSoft will finally have listened and increased the drop rate to at least the prior years (2005) drop rate of the same event.
(Yeah... NCSoft listen to NA players.. I think I see a pig flying by my window right now. )
I really hope Mistryl was saying the truth and they fixed the time differences. If I hunt during this event, it will probably be early in the morning during the "peak drop hours"... but I doubt I'd get enough medals. ><

"Peak Hunting Hours" was an attempt to limit resources going to certain playing types. It simply irritated actual players in different time zones, but failed in its goal when the other players simply set their alarm clocks to a different time to go to work.
Hopefully, the drop rate on this event will not try to 'tailor' itself and produce these unfortunate results again.
I live in the US. I work nights. My job is my career. L2 is for fun. Theres no fun in getting ziltch for rewards.
Hence;
1) Peak hours drops is stupid and limits who can actually enjoy the event;
2) It doesn't affect the automated program users, and;
3) It wasnt what I was originally referring to when I started this post. :p
Let get back on the subject, and complain till we get the same drop rates as last years event. I'd like to get A grade some time this year.
Ive just about ignored every rehashed event that has been brought. I prefer to just do something else with my time in game. The reward vs ability to get the items get worse and worse - seems everything is always some ******ed gamble.
What would the fun be in that? This is called "pre-emptive whine attack," used so that while the event is actually running we can be busy collecting medals despite ourselves. ;)
Why do events have to fix the fact you don't know how to make money? I enjoy events with toys and fun things. I make money with ease and will be able to fully afford any gear I ever want. I simply put effort into an income. When events just hand out money to everyone, all it does is inflate prices on OE gear. Everyone benefits from events, and it will never boost players closer to the upper tier of gear. It just moves that upper tier further away.
My favorite event so far was the xmas event. Echo crystals and trees that offered regen boosts was great.

Oh, okey. Then iI'll whine a bit as well. Last time you needed 10k medals to make a SA, and i bet this time it's 20k =(((
I will never get that many in 2 weeks. And they will cost 5 times more then last time =(((
This event is a total loss.

Since "certain playing types" usually play 24/7, all the peak hour drop rate increase does is make players angry who can ONLY play during off-peak hours...
Peak hour events are in all cases strange if you would ask me.
While the servers are located in 2 place on Earth the players come from all corners of it.
This in itself should in my opinion be a hint to any game-producer that events should be able to run 24/7 without peak hours. If not I would see it as a bad marketing disission since I think it would annoy more people at any given time then not.
Some write here that the event is oke no matter what. I think those think "any event is better then no event". Sorry not for me. My thinking is "any event is better then no event if ALL players can partake in it equally". Btw I hate to think those here have additutes towards "my country/state/race is better then your country/state/race". So I rather not see any hints towards this aka "if you are a euro you should have played on a euro-server and vice versa".

Who ever said I dont know how to make money? I just prefer to get stuff for free in the limited time I have and enjoy all the content that is available to me, instead of devoting most of the hours I have available to play, just to making money.
You play the game your way, I'll play it mine. Neither is correct, or wrong.
Then why suggest an event sucks because it won't help you get to A grade? It's free stuff that wasn't there before...there's absolutely no reason to complain.

My original post was about the abysmal drop rates which pretty much keeps normal players from participating and having fun with the event, not about me getting into A grade. Maybe I sould have put a smiley after that line so you wouldnt have taken it so seriously. (BTW, I do have A grade equipment already.)
But the fact remains that players this year havent had much fun because of the low drops rates of event items.
The letter event for example, from my point of view, was worthless. Most of the players from my ALLIANCE hardly got enough letters, especially the key letters, to make even one word. The hardcore players from my alliance were able to make about 2-3 words from the letters they recieved as drops throughout the entire event. Hell, in my clan amongst us we only had enough key letters to make 3 words. I had more letters left over from the previous years event in my warehouse, then what I recieved during this years event. Even with those reserves, I was unable to spell a single word.
lol not this argument again, oh gnoes euros on NA servers cant get items at the peak times on non-euro servers, o well
Yeah cause you know, the entire earth consists of North America and Europe
I live in Australia. My playing time is neither Euro peak OR American peak time. So I do hope they fixed the event this time around so things drop equally at all times.
I am as far from hardcore as a lvl 7x gets (Open beta to current for 74 lvls) and even I managed to spell several words during the event. I even soloed on my low lvl 18 alt for a few hours and managed to spell NCsoft once.
How many times should you be able to turn in an event to make it "fun?" This brings me right back to arguments that the L2 market is "too expensive." What exactly should items cost? How much adena is "enough" for you? How much reward should an event include? I've never found an event unreasonable...but perhaps that's because of the fact I do play (on days I even get to play) during typical peak hours.
I admit I play a lot, but you'd have to be VERY unlucky to not be able to spell a single word, or play way less than the average player. I think I spelled around 6 words. Didnt get a lot of good stuff, but I enjoyed the suspense (lol yeah I said it) of handing in words and hoping for a zaken earring. I did share letters with my boyfriend, for more efficiency.

Sure the rewards are a incentive to go for it I will not deny that and I think no-one will disagree with me on that.
The prime reason I do not like peak-low hour events is the lack of a equal change poeple may get to partake in the event itself. This seems to be a foreign concept in the way NCsoft creates their events of late.
I do ask myself this when I try to grasp what NCsoft management may have been thinking when I see these kinds of events unfold:
What do they see as an event?
Who is the event targeted towards?
Why implement peak-low hour restictions?
Do they have the tools to alter events?
But also vice-versa if I am to imagion I was manegement:
How come people whine about the events?
How can I make events more interresting or more improved?
What's a good period/length of an event?
Should I make events more interactive?
How do I stop/prevent "missuse" of events?
I think the preemtive whine comes from the medal drops.
I got about 50 GLITTERING medals in an hour on the PTS. Those can only be used to level up your trade skill. They don't buy anything. I got about 5 regular event medals. It's 1,000+ medals to get anything "good". So imagine how long you'd have to farm to get a stage 12....

I have to agree..after about the second day you get all the giltter medals that you need. yet you can't do anything with the rest of them and no one buys at supper high prices.
so you end up getting a wastfull drop..and nothing usefull.
Personally, I like peak hour drop rates. It does harm bots vs peak hour players. Bots farm 24/7, yes, but the total amount dropped would be different if they dropped all day long. Think of it this way, if 100k medals are going to drop in a day, would you rather 90% of those drop when the server is 50% players or that 90% of the medals drop when the server is 5% players? The ratio of medals that drop to bots, and medals that drop to players is better during peak hours. The total number of medals dropped is also reduced, meaning that bots see fewer event rewards from being online 24/7. Instead, a peak hour player sees an equal chance at the reward. It takes away the advantage of being on 24/7.
Let's think of it this way.
We will say that the set drop rate is 10/player/hr. And when non-peak hours come into effect, the drop rate is reduced 1/10th.
Same drop rate all day:
Bot accumulates 240 medals.
Player (4 hrs during peak) accumulates 40 medals.
To a peak hour player, the advantage is huge. The total amount dropped is almost 1/3...meaning the value of the item is better maintained for my 4 hr hunting period.
Now, event drops effect the economy as a whole, and I don't pretend to examine the full impact of higher drops on reducing prices for enchants etc. But personally, the prices on the server I find reasonably fair based on item rarity. I'm not the least bit worried about providing for myself and definately just enjoy the drops from events for fun.
either way i usually come out with a few dozen million that I didnt have before the event. Hell, I just started selling my l2day scrolls from the last event so I could get a decent price. IMO any event with drops for trade in items is great and an event like this that goes for 2 weeks straight of dropping is fantastic.
IMO Dark Lord event is the best event ever ever ever
Pumpkin event second
Medal events third
But I love em all and either way about it I will be happy.
