I was thinking about trying to OE my SoM to +4 or +5, but I'm not sure how many crystals I will get back if I fail.
Generally a SoM crystallized shall give like 2160 A-crystals, thats 1720 x 23.000a = ~50 mill.
A SoM can be bought for 63-65 mill (my using shouts) and +4 cost 4x7,5 mill = 95 mill total.
So the total loose will be 45 mill.
But I cant remember if I get 100% the crystal value or do I only get 50% the crystal value? if I break the weapon when trying to OE it.
It's "about half". There is an exact formula to it but I dunno what it is. You get more crystals the higher it is enchanted. When I blow up +7 weapons I get about the same amount of crystals I would if I had a dwarf crush it at +0.
Don't forget to include the lost enchant scrolls when you're evaluating the risk. Blowing up a +4 SoM is still half a som + ~40 mill in enchants lost.

You sure about that? I only get about 1k crystals back when I fail a +3 tarbar equivalent while it's crystal value is 2545.
When I failed my +7 winged spears I got about 2,2k.

very very not true otherwise people would OE all the time (even more they they already do lol). You get roughly half when they blow up and of course a bit more per enchant.
