Question on Caster Classes & Dwarfs from noobs

Player Questions Started Last reply 23 posts
hi me and my girlfriend are brand new to this game after having hoped archlord would be good lol.
anway we tried this and lvoed it but now we need some questions answered on classes so we dont pick wrong class.

right my question is i know i wanna be a caster class and i think the best is dark elf or human but after looknig thoguh there skills i cant see which one is the more damaging.
for me i really only want to thow out attacking spells and offensive magic and not really have to bother with minions or summons or healing. so which paths and race are best?

also my girlfriend wants to be Dwarf but its abit hard to tell exactly what they are. are they a tanker or a crafter? and how does it work.

any help would be great thx.
I think most people would favour the Dark Elf for attack magic, though to be honest with you when you apply Blessed Spiritshots to boost attacks, you'll probably not notice much difference whilst in a party.

Me and my g/f also play this game together, we also both have dwarves amongst our characters, 1 a "crafter" and 1 a "gatherer"... on lower levels they are Artisan and Scavenger.... just be aware that a Scavenger gets skills to extract materials from dead mobs, whilst an Artisan gets to craft.... fighting skills are the same though. Dwarves are nice to have in a party..... lots of HP for tanking, and a Scavenger will provide the edge on looting.

We're on Devianne..... look us up if you're on that server
Durranimmo and Durranimoo ... the "Discount Dwarves" :p

Look to the left and click Library, then look for skills, click on the appropriate job to see the skills.
Dwarves arent really tanks, even though they have massive HP. They could tank if they could keep aggro either with damage or with hate, but they cant - not for long. They are classes of their own, either crafters or spoilers (spoil being the skill scavs/bountry hunters use to "extract" more items from the mob).
If you want to trow out nukes, and not bother with healing - well, your girfriend should play some support class then. Preferably Shillen Elder, they get Empower buff (increases your magic attack) and can recharge you.
Trust me, you WILL need to bother with some supporter sooner or later, in any form - party with buffer, clanhall buffs, or you end up getting one nice boxed SE for you both :p

I would suggest get some look around, play a bit, get some gear and adena, then make dwarves, twink them with best you vcan afford and hooray for farming. My alt (alt, not box) made me enough money and materials to get divine set when I hit 40, and that was some set back then! I spent last 300k I had on her on newbie gear and farmed in fellmere Crafted Leather seeds and spoiling skins LoL.
Dark Elfs (SH Class) deal the most damage. However you will find Necros (Human Class) is probably the strongest of the spell caster classes. Usually if you two want to duo together & your going a caster who sucks MP like crazy, your GF might want to also go Dark elf & go the healer class (SE) Who can regenerate your MP, so you basically have a longer time of leveling. The two of you together, will make a great team & level very quickly. Also being both dark elfs, you can level up together in the same starting village. If you are on the Sieg server & need any help just give me a shout. :)
sh is the nuker of choice
although necromancer is the current overpowered mage (i play one :P) sh can solo better and cheaper than the necro can which will be important for a new comer

dont play a dwarf... ever. they are useless pieces of crap that shouldnt be lvled past C grade
of the few skills dwarves get all of them are pretty much freely accessable while playing any other class
Actualy dwarfs are good for tanking in polepartys. Like you sead, massin HP and if you have good armor you can make nice train and have some fun.
A dwarf can't pull like a warlord can.
no they can't but good luck finding a warlord.

now you hurt my feelings :P get someone else thats not a dorf to craft your B/A/S grade gear/shots/arrows will ya, good luck finding that crap in full drops, lol :P

other than that dorfs not good tanks? actually i would disagree, its just a matter of how you play him, i tank nearly as good as any poling WL (those are harder to find too!) but if you're going duo and your gf wants to be a dorf and you nuker it would be a fairly good thing if she'd pick the mobs and smack away for a li'l bit before you go nuking crazy, lol, generally the best duo for a nuker would be with SE due to that they get an empower buff that increase your dmg, if you cant get that, go for WC or some human buffer with acumen buffs.. its faster cast speed.. though SE's are the only ones capable of recharging your MP, well Elver Elder too but they cant buff your dmg or cast speed.. generally an SH is The damagedealer per single cast but they dont nuke too fast, one of the slower if i'm not mistaken, humans are the faster ones though they start out worse than SH (Spellhowler) as for going dorf on main i got one thing to say.. dont go for a Warsmith, go BountyHunter first off, if you two feel like grabbing a second dorf to raise go for WS afterwards... BH finds all the good stuff while WS makes something out of it... but a WS cant find crap on his own really, and being a BH finding stuff on your own you can then sell mats for profit so its easier to keep him going as a first main... i did the WS as main and man... it was a mistake, lol, but now when i'm big and bad (yeah right! :P ) i dont regret it :) the trick is getting there without giving up :/ I probably confused you with all my ramblings so i'll sum it up, lol

For nuker: DarkElf SH - most damage, but very squishy and eats MP moderate cast speed all the time,
Human Mystics not as much damage but start out casting slow and gets alot faster in the end also takes slightly more dmg than DarkElves,
take your pick by your own preference, both classes do really well, as do Spellsingers i have seen but i know little about them, better get someone elses opinion on those, and Orcs are strictly support oriented for magic in later lvls but can take more dmg than any other mage class :)
For Dorf: Best thing is going BH first, easier to keep him ticking with money and stuff, WS later to earn little money but steady flowing in and possibly making some nice stuff from your BH spoils :)
Party/duo Preference: It would be best picking a DarkElf SE to duo with for damage buffs and recharging up MP, Or human Prophet (finally remembered the name, lol) for faster casting, no MP recharge, LightElf Elder, none of the above but with MP recharge

but by all means, dont believe what they say about dorfs being useless, i've as a dorf have outtanked alot of classes in parties before (pole ones though, i dont use blunts) :P we just dont deal as much damage, but tanking is mostly about taking it and keep standing, not dealing it, and dorfs are tough critters to take down by physical means :)
wow, thats the longest post i've made... in any forums anywhere, lol
If you want, you can sort the races/classes into the two regions. Dwarves and orcs come from Elmore. Humans, elves and dark elves come from Aden.

The aden classes are very similar betwen races. There is the Human dagger, the dark elf dagger, and the elf dagger. There is the human nuker, the dark elf nuker, and the elf nuker - and so on. There are only very few exceptions as the humans get a few more specialized classes unique to them.

The elmore classes are something completely to themselves. Dwarves and orc fighters can't be compared to tanks because they have no hate and can't really utilize their HP and armor. Dwarves can do basic damage but they just don't have all the neat tricks of the true DD classes to compare.
They're primarily crafter/gatherers. You have to understand this when you start a dwarf or you will be very very very frustrated.

You suck. now go buy more adena. Spoiling is like scratching a lottery ticket off of every mob. But, if it affects your ego not to be able to kill other players. the dwarf is not for you. dwarves are hard to solo, but they make money, and if you find a good clan, your spoiling and crafting services will be essential, unless you are hanging with a bunch of cheaters.

SH is prolly the best nuker, unless you have a mp recharger, because of the body to mind. the necromancer is good too, but no body to mind (hp to mp) the game has hp pots, but not mp pots.

aye, in order to play a dwarf you must truly love the dwarf at first sight, otherwise you'll get bored really really fast and want to reroll into something else and pretty much wasted the time, lol

*Cough* she is level 75 maestro ... one of pure legit players on our server *cough*
simplest way to put it

Cast speed: elves>humans>dark elves
Cast power: elves<humans<dark elves

There's two ways to kill for a nuker either rapid succesive low damage or slow 1 or 2 hit heavy damage. The elves are better at the first kind and the dark elves are better at the second kind. Humans can be tweaked to go either way later in game with weapon special abilities and tattoo.

You don't really need a boxed SE any more if you are going to play a caster, specially a DE caster. With the instant potions and later on body to mind you can level for a very long time without needing to sit to regenerate mana. A baby pet also helps a great deal if you can afford it and have a spot to hunt where it won't die easily, which they do.

As for your girlfriend wanting to play a dwarf, tell her to go for it if she likes a challenge. Don't worry about starting out in two different twons, all low level characters now get tokens to port to other starting towns for free.

maestro is lvl 76
im a maestro but not 76 :P

dont listen to me if you dont want but please at least read some of the dwarf whine threads out there
bh is definately better than ws if you absolutely must play a dwarf but they suffer greatly in the pvp department (which is what l2 is meant to be about)
honestly ive never heard one person complain about picking a sh or necro at end game (apart from sleep nerf)

80+ pages of dwarf complaints (http://boards.lineage2.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=585699&page=0&fpart=1&vc =1)
read that and see if you dare tell me you want to play a dwarf :P
well one thing is for sure, i fell in love with my dwarf before i even got this game installed and running, eventhough we really do lack for PvP departments and all that fun extra skills flashy jazz i would still inspite of reading all those pages pick a dwarf, i never regretted it and never will :) But this is me, You have to decide for yourselves :)

crafting the world, shot by shot
I have to agree with Darth here, LOVE my BH. I love playing a dwarf. Maybe its because Im a packrat by nature, dunno. I have 5 now serverwide. If you really arent sure what you want to play on your home server, try them out on another one just to get the feel of the toon. That way you get the newbie benefits for which ever one you do chose.

Spoiler For Hire
Someone who plays a dwarf all the way to 75 and has such a pretty good idea about dwarf end game content will most likely have one of the best insight views about dwarves.

Too bad, not many people can see that. My dwarf is a tool, a nice cute tool, I must admit, but she is a tool, if I want to have fun I play a different char, but you can't make things work without having tools first.

SH is prolly the best nuker, unless you have a mp recharger, because of the body to mind. the necromancer is good too, but no body to mind (hp to mp) the game has hp pots, but not mp pots.

Necro get the same body to mind spellhowlers get.

And there are instant MP pots, dropped by mobs.
its debateable which is better at manage management really
the necro has faster cast speed which allows for more btming, however sh has more mattack so may get more out of drains
In this case, I have all of the suggested classes: A Necro, an SH, an Artisan and a BH.

BH and Artisan just plain suck and I have no idea what I was thinking of when I made them.

SH Vs Necro:
SH nukes are slow to cast but are far more Damaging + they have an Overhit Chance, therefore causing more damage per nuke and a mob which was Overhit, will net is slightly more XP than the one that wasn't Overhit.

Necromancers DO NOT get Overhit chance, their damage is lower than that of SH but they have 2 things that go very well for them:

1) Much faster Casting Speed
2) Transfer Pain

So when you have your Summon out and using Transfer Pain, you take considerably less damage than you would othewise, thereby making Necro as a nuker last longer than other nukers, which are all made of Paper.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that Necromancers NEED Cursed Bones for their Nuke as it is your ONLY nuke for many levels, you need to use the bones for it to work. Bones can be farmed at a descent pace by the mobs right outside Ivory Tower, but don't go there Empty Handed cause you'll never have enough bones drop to support your leveling on the fly.
