LoL, sounds like someone got pked :) Actually, some pkers do it because they can. Some do it to blow off steam, much like some people do when they play an fps. Others do it for sake of chaos. Just depends on the person.
1) Its easy
2) You can say PWNEDLMAOBBQ
3) otherwhise the PK would get killed
4) an open PvP game
5) you get your xp back in no time anyway
6) they want to welcome you to L II
I think because you're there is a good enough reason for anyone.
I just laughed the one time my DE mystic got pk'd. She was level 10 and killing some mushroom guys. There was some human type standing a little off to the side just watching me. After a minute or so, I get one-shotted and they SoE out. It was so absurd, I couldn't help but laugh.
Well, when you haven't the meatballs to to deal with the source of your real life problems...
and when you haven't the skill to go toe to toe with someone in an FPS...
and when your already slumping self esteem would be ruined by challenging someone within close level range and losing...
there is always the lowbie in a starter town of lower area who can be the victim of your misplaced frustration.
Consider being a victim a social service to ticking timebombs.
Wow, people read alot into a pk. What about because the person feels like it? ;) Its funny that some people attribute pking to a real life issue or a mental problem. I have a pker char and I pk on that char because I can. And actually I use him to manipulate alliances at times. You'd be surprised at how many alliances you can make when you have a char who pks a person then get on another to brez the person you just dirt napped...especially if they are a leader of a clan. Politics ftw.
lol!!!!! I was pk'd 10 times in the first week!
On my first toon--I'm guessing that poor guy was killed 40-50 times before 40. I certainly remember nights when he was killed 3 times by same griefing duo on TI--more than one night!
Getting killed when you are trying to do something else in-game makes you mad.
Players then seem to adopt one of three attitudes:
1) ignore pk deaths and move on
2) complain and seek some kind of justice (which doesn't exist)
3) work to get even with the person who killed them.
I strongly recommend #3.
As a caveat, you probably won't ever get pay-back on the exact person that killed you. And the next time, when you're higher, you'll STILL be pk'd by someone you can't touch. But overall I think the energy that comes from getting boiling mad in-game is good!
Turn the death into resolve, fury, focused rage, laughter, a learning experience--whatever gets you through the day!
I find it so hilarious when people PK me on my lowbies. I mean, great if they get satisfaction out of it, but theyre taking so little away from me. Ive leveled to 76+. I release to town with no problem till around level 66 (mostly because Ive learned the value of SP :p).
whats fun is getting my sps and dressing her up as a noob at windmill hill. pker comes along, "1dmg? wth?" and a 1shot in the bag on pker :)
Edit: what i also think might be funny is a summoner. when they come near, sleep them, and they get to watch you summon a high lvl unicorn then get 1 shot :)
Y'all are reading a little too much into the psyche of a PKer. Sure some were beaten as children and need to feel power, others might have been called fat all their lives and are taking it out on the rest of the virtual world, and others may be doing us more of a favour by killing themselves than everyone else, but meh.
I had a chat with one delevelling Karma on the Dion guards, and he was simply curious to know results of little experiments... SS or none? 1 Arrow shot? What if I let them hit me a few times first? Use NG arrows? etc.
The subject fascinated him. Like a cat playing with a mouse lol
Lowbie griefing is the virtual equivalent to kicking puppies.
Ok it is "fun" it makes you "feel good."
It is at another player's expense. Not due to something they did to deserve it, but ust so the PKer can get their kicks, which specifically target helpless innocents.
Do I give moral equivalency to serious RL behavior? No. But I do have a belief that they type of person who uses the game for those means is definitely compenating for lackings outside of game.
Feel free to to disagree. I base my beliefs on long-term experience with gaming communities and players. Your esperiences may very well be different.

I'm quoting this because I think it's funny... I'm not going to respond to it though.
Anyway....
I pk people to see how many of them threaten reporting me to a GM. I'm kinda curious how many times I've been reported... And I don't even pk that much...
I once had a guy tell me that it was against the rules to trick players therefore I was going to get banned. Another guy claimed that since I pked him 3 times in an hour I was harassing him (he did keep running up to me and talking trash)...
The things that people believe the GMs will do is unbelievable... It's a community service teaching these people that they are wrong.
Also it's fun to see who brings their lvl 53 mains just to get kited from eg to dion and back again then finally die.
3) work to get even with the person who killed them.
This doesn't work because of logging and bsoe's. I'd upload this replay of me trying to kill this griefer near Dion, but it was recorded in C4 so it's invalid now :(
Basically it's me running after a rogue with a bow for like 5 mins while he's spewing out all sorts of clever trash talk how it's unfair because I'm higher and how he won't drop anything because he doesn't have 5+ pk's. We reach a hill which he thought he could climb but got stuck at the base so I finally catch up to him. I do a thunderstorm and *while* it's casting, he logs out. What's the point?
That's not even getting into forcelogging.
If I'm getting griefed I just go somewhere else. It's not more complicated than that.
Not to mention the ones that do it the most seem to know all of your stats...
Yup, amazing how they always seem to know almost instantly there is a higher level in the area and just where they are, even if the higher level is in noob gear. Simply astounding that. I wonder how they can legitimately know any of that and not get banned... /sarcasm
