Hello everyone!
I'm a new player that played L2 back in the days of open beta.
Now I've grown tired of WoW and in a drunken haze I bought L2. :)
I've browsed the forums for a bit and decided that Devianne will be my server of choice because it seems there's some people here that are friendly and willing to help a newbie with some helpful advice and tricks.
I've got some questions, probably been asked tons of times before, but well, if you don't ask, you don't learn.
Dwarves seem to be only crafters / moneymakers and tanks, is this true?
Seem to be a bit disappointing imo, since I would greatly like to play a melee damagedealer and from what I've gathered, that doesn't suit dwarves that well.
In beta I played a DE Mystic, got her to lvl 20 but never finished the branch quest from what I can remember, but I also remember that I didn't really like playing a spellcaster, so I'm gonna try for a melee class.
What melee class do you guys enjoy the most? Most fun to play etc.
Is the game economy really that bad as everyone says it is?
Do I have any chance of actually surviving without being an ebayer? :p
Is alot of things changed since the betas? Like drops for instance, I remember getting like 1 or 2 drops that were nograde from monsters during the 1>20 period, is this still the case?
Is there clans for ppl like me? (Just started)
Or is clans strictly for higher lvl players etc? (Is it clan or guild in this game btw?)
Well, if anyone reads this or even gives me a reply I'm gonna be one happy puppy. :)
Just hope I'll enjoy L2 as much as I did while I played the beta.
(Sorry for any misspelling / bad grammar since English is not my native language. (I'm Swedish. ^_^))
1) dwarf != damage dealer. do NOT play dwarf if you want big damage from Melee.
melee DD = Gladiator, Destroyer, Tyrant, Abysswalker, Plainswalker, Treasurehunter, and in some cases Warcryer. of these, the most fun and popular is the Gladiator. but thats a debatable issue.
2) the economy IS bad, but if you learn how to kill fast, efficiently and know how to economise your savings, you will get far in the game before you worry about your adena.
3) drops have VASTLY increased from their non-dropping days in beta and prelude. nowadays there are bound-on-pickup items called herbs that will do 1 of 4 things for you no matter what your level : these are - Increase your Patk (physical attack rating - determines how much physical damage you do), Increase your Matk (if you are a caster, this is how much damage your Magic spells do.) - regenerate your HP, and regenrate your Mp.
those items really help to stretch out your grinding sessions before the need to sit and regenerate. there are also equipment exchanges whereby any new player (the first per account over lvl 6 per server) may obtain the next level of gear by paying the price difference instead of the whole value of the items. also high level buffs exist for new players and last 1 hour, obtained from the "newbie helper" in the starter villages.
free soulshots / spiritshots may also be obtained by doing the quest that the newbie helper directs you to. just ask them about it, they will mark where you need to go to find the quest for shots.
4) clans in this game consist of any levle player. there are different levels of clans - the higher the level, the more people allowed in each, and clans over level 5 may obtain clan-only armor, may mentor their lower level players and help them obtain levels faster. the higher level clans sometimes have certain clan skills that can be cast from the clan hall (or separate clan hall buffs) that will benefit the whole clan or a few players. but these high level clans are hard to find as they usually dont advertise or recruit (high levels dont really appreciate the low level players as most of the low players are not likely either to stay or to provide a good service to the clan, or in most cases, the higher level players dont understand why the lower level players arent levelling as quickly as they can.)
gl and have fun. make sure you dont actually BUY shots unless you can afford to loose the cash.
