Heres the deal. i've been playing my main SK for a while (not too long but still) and hence i've gotten her to 48. i took a break and rerolled an alt. this is where my problem started, in that time i've started three other characters, a SO, an artisan, a raider, and a warrior. and last night i was tempted to create a new toon, a DE mystic. i see others that have 4/5 toons anywhere between low 30s to high 50s.
i still like my main, but what seems to be the issue here? i cant comprehend, i like L2 a lot. i'm in a clan but majority of the time i find myself soloing, and i dont have a problem with that. but instead of making alts, then leveling them, then leaving them, then starting another toons, all this time/effort wasted when i could've just worked on my main.
bah!
sorry for this stupid post, just felt like ranting a little bit. i was just doing some armor research for my orc and it hit me why even bother when i have my main thats been patiently waiting for me to start up again.
Well, the way I see it it's not a waste of time.. It's a game, you play it to have fun (I hope), so basically do whatever makes you happy.. If you wanna have your own legion of lowbies who's to say that's wrong and you have to get your main to 78?
This is a common issue, I will not call it a problem, but I have observed it a lot with many many different people. Of course, I have a theory...the Orc always is full of theories.
Some of the minor reasons are first, to try out a new class, race or experience. Second, different mental approaches to the game....if you see your toon as living a life in Aden then you will keep playing them more often then if you see the toon as an extension of yourself trying to be uber (or whatever need is unfulfilled in the player's life).
However, I think that the main reason that people alt up so much is that the game gets hard somewhere in the 50's. The levels become slow, the grind becomes real. (As an aside, it used to be like this in the 20's and 30's before they started upping the exp in C2, buffing newbies in C3, providing quick exp in the catas and now dropping HP and MP in C5.)
So the early levels are tempting to relive because of the quick gratification they offer. When a player hits the walls in the 50's and 60's, the 30's and 40's seem easy. Of course, when you hit the low 60's then the 50's seem easy. When you hit the high 60's then the low 60's seem easy, and so forth. As a result, the alts will all inch upwards and only the top 'main' toon will seem hard by comparision.

yeah true. i agree, for some reason i just find it appealing to see how all these differnet classes work and how they are designed and what not.

Yeah, everytime I see someone do something cool with their characters I make a new char of that same class to be able to do the same, but I forget I'll have to get 40-50 levels before I get those cool skills, so I get bored and stop at level 12.. lol.. So I know how you feel..
I've got 7 characters.
Level range 23-70. I love them all.
I was thinking it would be nice if NC gave us more room on our character creation screen.... ;)
I have 7 chars too, 15-17-23-39-45-54-63...If I would have invested all my time my main would have subclassed by now yes...but its a game, nothing to get bored off after 5 seconds.
If I would have a 2nd account, probably would have 14 chars yes. I refrain from doing so though.
ive prolly made more chars then any of u guys ;) all of the other servers have alts that use newbie buffs, ive remade certain class types 2-3 times, and yet a friend of mine keeps trying to get me to play 1 class :D
Well, as others said, it's a game and you play to have fun. As long as you ARE having fun then no big deal.
What I've found is that making one toon who is my "champion" in game is what works for me. I also have a dwarf which helps make some money for me at times.
Other than that, if I find that I want to try another race or class, I make it, twink it out and lvl it to about the first class change. But shortly after the first class change the xp starts slowing and it then becomes an investment to keep the character. So I just delete it.
For me anything that takes away from leveling my main is a distraction that I don't want.
I think what the issue is is that people want that sense of accomplishment. The higher you go, the less the "dings". The accomplishment starts becoming, "making 5%, making 3%, then making 2 %.
And for the people who pvp more, it's a contstant cycle of pvp and then xp intermingled with each other.
So in the end, just play the game in a way that you enjoy. You might have to change your goals or not. Doesn't really matter as long as you feel you are getting your money's worth.
I alt and reroll toooo much. Off the top of my head I can remember: Phantom Ranger, Warlock, Cleric(Prophet), Bishop, Shilen Oracle, Warrior(Warlord), Gladiator, Spellsinger, Necromancer, Orc Shaman, Dark Wizard, Monk, Elven Knight, Elven Scout, Assassin(Abyss Walker), Scavenger.
I like making chars, plus the side of it is making second class change guides.
I have a level 29 elven knight, 26 human rogue, 76 cardinal, 45 bounty hunter, level 4 elven fighter, 58 shillen elder, 56 spellhowler, 56 spellsinger sub, and level 11 orc mystic. It's fun and that's what it's about.

lol.. more power to you. If I had to do another second class change I would probably quit. Oh wait... I have 3rd class change (and I suppose sub class but I'm not camping out any bosses so that will wait).
By the way, I really like your avatar. Did you make that or is it from something.
As others have said, rerolling is not a problem at all! I've only been playing this game a month and I already have 4 characters I play when the mood strikes me. The Palus Knight is my "main" and hence he is higher level but I love all my characters pretty much equally. As my sig says I am an "alta-holic". I like to see everything there is to see and sometimes I like a different feel when I play. Hence making different characters to experience different parts of the world.
I'm a bit of a tourist so I'm not really worried about being "uber" or any of that business. I just take it play session by play session and have fun doing it which is what matters to me. Each of my characters has goals they are trying to meet but I'm in no rush to complete them.
To me the only question that matters is "are you having fun?" As long as I can answer "yes" then I'm happy. :)
Talk to Jute for the multiple character queen. I think she's got everyone beat.
My chars on gustin, spread over 4 accounts:
71 SH
70 SE
63 BH
56 PW
65 SPS
61 Sorc
56 Necro
60 SR
55 SWS
63 Prophet
64 BD
52 OL
