I never thought it could happen, but... i logged in today, did some levelling in the Catacombs, and after a few minutes thought to myself "pfff this is so boring, what's the point of wasting my time like that, let's do something else more interesting", then logged off...
Of course the graphics are awesome, the new C5 additions are great (i love the old dude running without his pants in Shuttgart, and i still have to help this little cute dwarfie who's afraid of the dark), i know this game has so much potential and i still have so much more to discover, BUT : the quests are so worthless, it's so hard to run a Clan, everybody's here for PvP when the game has so much RP possibilities, and this stupid economy is just, well, plain stupid (http://www.ultimatom.com/economy.jpg).
So, i'm asking you guys to motivate me, cos i dont wanna quit ! :p
What should i do ? Disband my Clan which i've worked so hard for, but then be able to join an already-existing one and benefit from some of the cool Clan features ? Or create an alliance with another Clan (but try to go and find another RP Clan on Teon :() ? Reroll ? Or just find new ppl to hang out with and lv up together now that most of my friends have quit (yes, mainly because of the economy, as none of us wanted to e-bay this wasnt fun for them anymore when reaching high levels) ?
I'm a poor lonesome lv46 Shillien Knight
what keeps me coming back is my clan. I love the banter in the chat, that every one helps everyone else, the sunday festival runs and everyone getting killed last minute.
I was looking at your page and you don't have a lot of members, uhm perhaps having a purely RP clan isn't working out for you. Let anyone join and warn them that you RP and maybe they'll come to like it and RP also? Write up stories for your members to play out? make replays of the stuff you do play out. just some ideas :)
everybody's here for PvP when the game has so much RP possibilities
Ok first off, it IS a pvp game.
As far as role play possibilities, any game can have that as it delves into improvisational acting.
If you like Role Play then you should stick with your roleplay clan.
However, it means that you need to come up with clan activities that revolve around roleplay.
Why not create a few stories based off of the mythology? What's more, you should create a few puzzles or riddles for your clanmates to solve. With their answers, you can then unlock additonal parts of the story.
Make it so that once or twice a week there is a different installment of the story with different goals and objectives. You could also buy another account and make some player controlled "actors" (or if you don't have many alts make them on your account).
Your clanmates can then go about finding these "actors" who then interact with them and send them on a different part of the quest or story. Sort of like creating a D&D pnp session.
The thing is, you need to find reasons to play. You say you don't want to quit. Well "why". I think that will help you with your answer.
Besides. Disbanding your clan just to join another clan doens't mean you are going to find other players who want to play like you. You might find that you are worse off.
Maybe find other roleplay clans and join with them?
I know what you are going through. Each time you post something new, I see you were I once was.
The plight of the role-player in this game is a lack of interaction. This is made worse by the fact that you are on a server that is not known for its role-playing.
I was looking at your page and you don't have a lot of members, uhm perhaps having a purely RP clan isn't working out for you. Let anyone join and warn them that you RP and maybe they'll come to like it and RP also?
Yes that could be a good idea !
Like you said i have only a few members in the clan, and only fewer stay on the long run, as they realize that L2 isnt really much of a RP game...
Right now the "Clan" is like 3 or 4 people :o
Ok first off, it IS a pvp game.
Yes, and that's why i'm beginning to wonder if it's really the right game for me
The thing is, you need to find reasons to play. You say you don't want to quit. Well "why". I think that will help you with your answer.
Well, the main reason is that i love the character i've created, and i want him to live some interesting adventures in the Aden world !
The other main reasons are the graphics obviously, the lore (very well developped but so much under-used in the game), and the fact that i still have so much more to do (sieges, high-lv raid bosses, ...)
I know what you are going through. Each time you post something new, I see you were I once was.
What brought me back to L2 is its a Game,
but too much mind numbing grinding it can drain you...
But remember this, the Game is what you make it.
Grinding is inevitable, so i look up the drop table on stratics, seeing the possible drops i could get, thinking of ways to make money. Im trying out fishing, (getting very little :)) and crafting low D grade to crush into crystals. keep your mind busy with what your going to do for the future.
My SH is a shadow in the dark looking for a clan to have fun with cause me be all alone... =)
MasterZen had some excellent points. You have to make the game about relationships and interaction. The grind is boring, but you can't focus on the grind. You view the game like you would a chat room. When you consider it like that, the grind isn't nearly as boring as watching nothign but a chat window.
I don't know why the game doesn't have more roleplayers. This game has so much to offer a group who would want to play games. I could list the things that roleplayers like about everquest & finalfantasy, but I think ncsoft could add just a little bit of content and perhaps draw a lot of roleplaying people to L2. This C5 world is the most superior of any fantasy world on the market, and most importantly, it's one world/room.
If the problem you have is with the Economy, then it's mostly your own fault, to be quite frank.
When it comes to the Economy of L2, it's all about know What to do and How to do it. Which quests to take or which to avoid, which mobs to hunt and which mobs to skip.
Since you're having problems financially, you're probably Hunting in places where you shouldn't be (ie: Catacomb/Necro), or making some bad choices as you go.
Hell, since you are an RP'er (and people will probably flame me for this), as a last resort, create a new "Shady" character since Scamming is perfectly Legal in L2. (no, I do not scam, nor have any need for it, but this is just one of the ideas to create a truly Evil and Vile RP character :p )
Well, i dont have a practical problem with the economy, as i more or less manage to always get what i want, but i do have a "theorical" problem with the economy because, having played other player-driven-economy-MMORPG, i really find the one in L2 laughable, but that my point of view.
That's not what's making me wanna quit, but i know some friends who have quit because of it, mostly because they were into PvP and couldnt fairly compete with the eBayers (and let's be honest here, most of the high-lv characters, maybe not the ones who take time to post on these boards, but most of them have levelled up through eBaying).
Like most of you have said, i just need to find a good reason to keep on playing, i dont want to stupidly roleplay alone in Teon :p
(and let's be honest here, most of the high-lv characters, maybe not the ones who take time to post on these boards, but most of them have levelled up through eBaying).
I'm not arguing with what you're saying. And in addition to what you said. Most of the exp of the high-lv characters was obtained from leveling practices that are no longer available to players. Tricked out AOE nuker parties. Super size pole arm parties. Big booms
I'm watching this new server and they are leveling like mad, but wait till the +60 grind sets in, with them being limited to running around a room grinding like a farmer.
grazzt, i feel your pain (as Bill--molest 'em in the oval office-Clinton used to say).
I sort of 'hit a wall' from about 45 to 52 that I still haven't recovered from.
I think that's when the REAL grind begins. Leveling to 45 comparitively is pretty simple. Then 'something' changes.
All my clanmates (experienced mmorpg'ers) left L2 in their low/mid 50's!
I turned to leveling alts and maybe I shouldn't have! I'm now on 3 servers with 16 toons, most of whom are under 20!
And the poor DA, at 52, hasn't been played in weeks.
Unfortunately, the REAL, REAL grind doesn't even start till AFTER 52.
I don't have the answers. I can tell you that when my clan fled for WoW I was absolutely deflated. As far as L2 goes it was the worst day so far!
Playing the game with others offers some relief from the grind. My only advice is to build relationships. I know on Devianne (technically my first toon on L2 though I leveled and played most on Lionna) the presence of one person in b-grade makes all the difference.
L2, imo, is a SOCIAL game first....whether you're partying with others or killing strangers. It's still social. The more folks you interact with, the faster it seems that levels occur.
40-46 went fast for me as the clan was leveling and i was surrounded by friends. 46-52, alone, was a nightmare comparitively.
Find people.
0 > 20 Easy laid back job, can be boring cause its always the same skill you use but its easy
20 > 40 well, this is cool, you visit Dion and you can chatter while grinding a bit, goes fast
40 > 45 easy cause you have most likely new gear and will levle faster
45 > 52 getting slower but you can still make a lvl a day if you want
52 > 56 solo gets though and only doable for nuker or archer
56 > 61 the grind to A grade, may seem hard, but it really isnt
61+ > 70 Now you are in for the big preparation
I must say, why do people complain about grinding and xp all the time? This game is designed to let you multiple months-years to get toend game content...not a couple of weeks.
You are not supposed to lvl every 2-3 days in your 60's. No, then it comes to group and party play and that give way more satisfaction then another DJING effect.
