There is more to it all then just that.....Everyone seems so one minded, there is more to life then just companing about those issues. I for once would like to see people touch on other subjects and get off this broken record.
if ncsoft fixed the problems we been complaining about for several chornicles like the memory leak that has existed since c3 when they went to updated the servers. That would be a nice start.
But I tend to agree with Splatter. There's only so much whining I can take. Bots, nukers, shillien elders, raid farmers.... There's enough of it. We all know how bad the situation is (regarding eula violaters). And NCsoft knows it.

Since we're only allowed minors "hey I'm not satisified" and isnce everyone knows already we're not satisfied what's the point of posting?
We're not allowed controversy, thus the boards are boring. No challenge. Nothing usefull to do besides say to the noobs in the forum above that Toma won't spawn.
So we wait for someone to post something 'interesting'.
Then you se 'interesting' in a thread's topic you click and get a massive delusion. Since we already know that drop items events ara more profitable to professional farmers.
Then the buzz resumes... The one from the neon tubes... Sleepyness fills the air... till the next stress of false hope seeing a new topic has come.

The official message board is usually more quiet when an event is going on. My theory is that more people are actually playing than posting when that happens.
Unless, of course, no one likes the drop rates in the event, and then the board lights up. :)
The official message board will always be moderated and the rules strictly enforced. That won't change -- the rules are there for a reason. But I'm always open to suggestions about the official message board, so keep the feedback coming, whether in this thread or in a PM. Thanks!

I think one of the problems is that we don't really get any information about future updates, what is going on with future development of the game, or more frequent updates (other than every 6 months or so) so we don't really have a lot to talk about.
The Server forums are about the politics and "drama" of the server. That is generated by the players themselves so there is a constant influx of new topics (even though sometimes the topics seem a bit silly).
But with the main forums, there really isn't an influx of new material to talk about. The occasional new player with questions (which usually gets the "use search" response) The people who just want to whinge about topics that have already been labeled as "not allowed", a complaint about an event when we have one, or any rumors about the upcoming expansion that is on the Korean server.
The suggestions forum can sometimes be a source of new material but many people don't feel that they are being heard (yes, I know they are). That is why the recent "ask the developers" is so interesting.
Essentially, if one wants a more vibrant board then one needs material that is interesting to talk about. Whether that be what is going with the game, new changes (good or bad) new events (good or bad) etc.
So the question becomes: what type of material will generate positive discussion (or impassioned discussion) and more of it.
Maybe there should be a forum specific event. Could have to do with the game mythology or maybe a series of puzzles or "forum quests" to be solved.
It's a shame that something couldn't be created that links the forum to the actual "game". Something where clues or what have you are discussed, guessed on the forums which then leads to certain ingame events. Though that might be a bit too technical for NC NA's resources.
Also, this is a pvp game. What about more inter-server fights? That could inspire some discussion. And there could be different types of matches. Maybe even level ranges so that it's not just the "uber leveled and geared" players who participate.
Or maybe there could be a "topic of the week" or month that invites some lively discussion. Obvioulsy pertaining to the game and not silly (such as "should pet keeper lundy wear a new Hat).
One way to accomplish this is to look at "what makes a successful and lively forum". Are there other forums out there that one can consider "successful" given the rules that one has to follow on a privately owned "public" forum.
If a 'lively' forum means tons of immature whining and complaining and boasting (as seen on unmoderated boards) then I am very very very glad that we have the rules here that discourage that type of people.

lack of customzation in l2 is part of the problem.
Im an archer in agrade there 4 armour sets and 2 bows for us sgrade 1 armour 1 bow. Whats their to talk about?
Other games have 10 - 12 armour sets and 8 - 10 weapons at top levels per class then you also have skill trees where you put different points in different skills that work different ways with different armours and weapons.
Its the customazation that provides most of the topics in games like CoH/CoV (to name a ncsoft game) and WoW. Go look at the CoH/CoV there are pages and pages of topics about how to differently configure your toons and what powers to get etc.
There is none of that in l2. 99% of archers in l2 wear majestic armour and +str and/or +dex move on...... nothing much to discuss.
Id love to see 6 - 8 new bows for agrade 8 - 10 armour sets and not just for archers but every class look at the database there are at least 2x as many weapons and armour in the game they just havent implemented. I have to ask why not put all those things in game so everyone stops looking like cookie cutters lol
i got 9 archers in my clan we all wear majestic (2 in doom havent completed their sets yet) and everyone has a soul bow or carnage bow..... such variety lol
L2 is all about not having any customisation (visually aside) - it was an actual selling point early on: "Any other character of your level will be just like you, it all comes down to skill" (haha). Of course, they sort of strayed for that by increasing overenchanting rate, the buff system and things like that.
I think on a whole, Sly's assertion here is correct though - since there is very little to discuss in terms of builds, and most L2 players do not strive to "get good" at playing their class, there is nothing much to talk about.
Of course, if more roleplayers actually came to L2 (awesome lore, and to boost the best RPable MMO I've played*, grind aside), there'd be another topic of constant conversation.
On a whole though, I don't think that there's anything wrong at all.
PS: I'm not sure what you read about Sly on blah, but most accusations against WO point against someone he clanned who very openly admitted to having bought several ready-made accounts.
* I mostly play Asian MMOs because the western ones I've seen are simply far too ugly to look at all day.
I am playing the event. But I am also somewhat quiet on the forum, not really wanting to put anything up because a certain someone's (not you) decision.

what I meant was, all the high levels etc mostly post on blah. lot of casual players on this forum. this matches the play styles.

For the people who post there, they don't do it because they are forced to. They do it because they are able to find a medium of expression that serves their needs.

Perhaps, but the claims of "more information" or "more high level politics" is dubious, at best. Unless by "more information" you mean "here's how to cheat and exploit" and by "more high level politics" you mean "here's a screen shot of someone I don't like obvious botting" (picture shows a toon just standing somewhere) and 20 replies of "lawl" and "cry more."

Well, I though I occassionaly looked at Blah I can't comment on it's "more info" or "more politics". Just that there is a sement of the community who gravitate toward that type of forum.

there's probably been many more posts since I started reading, but hey I'm at work, can't really read all the way through without stopping. My 2 cents: I would love a thread on builds for nukers, I don't like the current cookie cutter of you have to nuke faster than the next guy. Also I would like to say that Gustin forum is the exception to everything. Most of the major alliance leaders post on there; not only noblesses, but a few of the heroes actively post on the drama threads; and it's usually a different thread of the same exact thing with the same exact people. I like my server, we are special :).

I always find the "hip word/phrase of the month" interesting in a "oh my god, that's dumb" kind of way. It's amusing to me considering most of the ******s on Blah were in diapers when LOL was "coined" and they are such automaton clones over there, they probably don't even know where "LAWL" came from. It's a gigantic game of follow the leader over there.
Although Vina is right, there have been some very useful threads in regards to new aspects of the game @ Blah. Anytime something new is introduced, there is at least one intelligent person over there that starts a thread that ends up being pinned. Off the top of my head, weapon SAs, seven signs, Mammon BS/Merch . . .
