Hello!
My husband and I are just starting this game, and we are confused about the starting locations for the different races. I want to play a dark elf, and he's thinking of either human or orc.
We've read that the humans and orcs start in hard to get to places, and teleporting is expensive. We don't want to have to play seperately just to level so we can join up. Is there any way for two brand spanking new characters of different races to get together right away? Is there a level requirement or quest requirement for the Gatekeepers?
No, there are no Level reqs for the Gatekeepers, however, they are expencive as hell, especially these days.
Also, if you make an orc and move him out of his native village to say Dark Elf village, you will need to take that Orc to a higher town like Gludin/Gludio etc to train his skills.
Since you're obviously playing on separate accounts this is not a problem. Your first character, up to lvl 20, gets newbie teleport tokens. You get 20 of them to use to port to other newbie starting areas.
Welcome to L2!
Let us know which server you're playing on so others can help you out. :)
With new characters you get tokens to use travel. You can redeem these at a newbit guide to travel between the new player areas. However.. keep in mind that one of you will have to go back to your original town in order to get your skills.
We haven't chosen our server yet. :) We're THAT new.
Another thing that worries me, we tend to delete our first bunch of characters in the beginning while trying out this race, with that hair, with this class, etc etc untill we eventually pick our final character and then start playing for real. But we see that the characters he has made so far didn't just vanish, they are sitting around in the character creation screen.
Is there a limit to how many characters we can make and delete?
Will we no longer get the Newbie bonuses if we delete the first character we make? Or do we have till level 6 to make and delete all we want?
Do we get those free tokens right away or only once we get to level 6?

Thanks again!
Ok.. stop right there.
It will take 7 days to delete a character. So, you might want to pick a server and then go to another server and try characters out THEN go to the server you want to be on.
OR
Go make your characters but don't go past lvl 5 so you can get the "new character buffs" (or does anyone know if this was changed in C5?)
Is there a limit to how many characters we can make and delete? No. Make and delete as many as you like. Though you are limited to 7 on each server, when you delete a toon they stay for 7 days then you can create another
Will we no longer get the Newbie bonuses if we delete the first character we make? Or do we have till level 6 to make and delete all we want? Your first toon over lvl 6 (don't let them cross that percentage line into lvl 6) gets the newbie bonuses. No other will get them. Even if you delete that toon.
Do we get those free tokens right away or only once we get to level 6 Talk to the newbie guide, do the quest he gives, then talk to another newbie guide in town. This is one thing I think all newbies get. Not just your first.
I think you two need to come up with what you want to play first, before going into creating and deleting characters. It's just going to turn into one mess.
What games did you come from and what characters have you played before?
my thought is to choose the server with the 1) highest number meaning it's probably newer, and 2) the lowest ping to you (on the sign in screen after you log on).
As for deleting chars--you can make 7 per server x the number of servers so why delete?
I left a low toon on a server for 8 months and eventually went back to him for awhile just for a change of pace.
1 other thing--take a bit more time on the character creation screen if you are deleting toons because of hair style, color, etc.
Pick your RACE first, then decide if you like mage or fighter (except dwarf).
Spend some time on this site reading the playstyle information and looking at the character attributes AFTER class changes.
I jumped in with a dwarf first--cause I felt dwarfish. It was fun. Then for some reason I'll never understand I picked human fighter. Although that turned out okay, it was a LOT of slower grinding with those two choices--so it took me a LONG time to level them even a little.
If you like hittin stuff with swords, pick an orc or dark elf fighter (1 opinion anyway). If you like casting spells pick a human, light elf, or dark elf caster.
If you're mostly gonna play together you won't go far wrong if one of you picks the de fighter and one picks the de mystic.
They are both pretty versatile throughout class changes.
Best I can do!
(although I CAN recommend both Lionna and Devianne as great servers with some really great folks. I'm pretty sure everyone else on the other servers would be less fun :)) jk!!!
