I have recently been scammed on bartz monster race track by a netorioius trading bot of over 20mil worth of gear. So if I come off as angry-hot tempred you can surely beare with me and simpethize with me on this if something simlar has happend to you.
With the porting to town to town on the new C5 has taken a new toll on new and mid level players such as myself MRT has been and will always be the easyest way to support your friends and clanmates. Unfortunatlly, MRT is also netrious for harboring trading bots or malitious users that prey on those that recently port into and out of MRT. Becarful when lending your buddy your armor and weapons or supplying your friends with that much needed extra adena or ss for your hunting partys.
The new scamming trade loop hole. Well to some its probly not anything new but to a new player or someone who recenly got scammed of his armor this seems like a new scam to me.
What exactly transpired?
When a random no name char continuously opens trade with you or with anyone in proximity of this program and continues to open trade in hopes it catches someone offguard. Where is the fault it this you might say? Well if at that very moment your giving a friends supplys armor weapon money to level and this trade bot opens a trade at that very moment its just dumb luck for the trade bot and bad luck for that hasty trader that lost all his gear.
The loop hole is the ncsoft disclamer all trades are not responsible and any issue with a community should should be delt among ourselfs. Then theres the kicker the names of the person you trade are displayed on the bottom so you know who you trade. But if your running 2 boxes or you have trouble reading small type your tottaly out of luck. My luck just so happend the clan member i traded with had the same first letters as the scammer which makes my bad luck even worse.
If something simmiar has happend to you or if thers a solution to this problem any happy endings like getting anything lost back plz let me know...
Sorry buddy, once again it's just a case of having to be more careful. I came across one of these guys once in c4 when moving gear to a 2box. However, I didn't get scammed because of one little reason (aside from saying "hey! how come my proph doesn't have a trade window!") I also saw that in the trade window, my prophet's name wasn't there, it was a bunch of gibberish. Also, now in c5 it's even harder to make that mistake because the trade window also shows the clan of the person you're trading with (or did it always show this?)
Only suggestion is next time trade away from the port spot. Preferably at the other MDT manager then you can see who is following you. Also you can port out at the other MDT manager.

I sat there for over an hour during that time made 4 pettions to the GM which was pretty useless since the GM is a bot replyed responce. Seems theres no real protection to this on going scam. I warned others of this bots behaviors because it ran a cricle pattern. It make a loop to the gk and back. The bot had the nerve of opening trade a few extra times again to see if i gave him extra stuff i sat there and told him off. Give me my stuff back your lower then lower scum... of course it was all -.- bleeped out. At leat the -.- GM had the -.- common decentcy of replying back.

Look you were dumb, learn from it and move along. In C5 they made it so you not only see the name of the person that you are trading with, but also their clan if they have one. Don't blame the GMs or anyone else besides yourself.
Why we would need idiot flashing lights, bold letters and multiple confirms on a trade that shows you 100% of what you need to know already, I have NO IDEA.
Yeah. You are the one to blame, it's an old scam. It says in your system log "Begin trading with Player", and it says *on the trade window* who you are trading with. If you missed both of these warnings, you can hardly call it a "loophole".
I've seen so many people fall for this. I *cannot* believe how many people put so much gear in that window without double checking who you're trading with.

First, /block the person. Second, never trade to anyone at the track and never hand over gear to someone that starts a trade. Third, report them for trade spamming.

Sorry to be so blunt.... But to bad for you.. The name of the character shows up when u send the trade invite and in the trade window when your trading. It is then your own fault for not reading. Pay more attention in game. Sorry for your loss though. :eek:
I got scammed by this way as well. Nothing I could not afford to lose but still, I am not happy about it. I knew the person was a scammer, I knew how he did it, but then I was a little to confident and hasty and poof, one happy scammer.
Thanks for the /block idea, he wont get me another time. But perhaps his buddy will one day when I let my guards down. :eek:

No way around it if you want to be safe. It also helps to have a warning signal with your friends - like always trading a certain useless tiem back and forth with every trade.

The trade window, in C5, was improved to prevent this. The window now, not only includes the name of the player you are trading to, but the clan as well. This is what we call "idiot proofing." We do it as engineers (especially in the military) all the time. Unfortunately, idiot proofing makes the assumption that individuals are of at least a particular level of intelligence. In the end, somebody ALWAYS screws it up. We could add 17 "accept" windows to trades, and some would still ** it up.
Then theres the kicker the names of the person you trade are displayed on the bottom so you know who you trade.
This is semi-False, the trruth is actually worse........A repetitive trade spam/scam attempt can in fact result in the incorrect name being displayed in the trade window. Thus you can end up with a trade window that displays your friends name, but in fact are trading to the scammer.
The ONLY way to know for sure, is to go by the text log and check the most recent entry.
For example, you may have a spam of text logs saying , "scammer-name has cancelled the trade" , "friend-name has confirmed the trade" , "scammer-name has confirmed the trade" etc , etc.....but the most recent log entry will tell you for definite who you have really opened your latest trade-window with...whether it be the scammer, or otherwise.
So in this case the latest text log will accurately say "you begin trading with scammer-name" , whilst the trade window may display your friends name instead.
So, to repeat , if you suspect you are being trade-scammed , but have a trade window open displaying your friends name in it.....make sure to check the text log to confirm who you are really trading with before you confirm any trades.

I liked that last idea have the gm put a warning lable to anyone caught running the random open trade scam to help warn others of this.
At least in a danger zones RED's are clearly labled and visible. Where are these warning and known scammers in the so-called safe zones. We need warning trading warnings over accused malcontents.
One cannot just sit idel and /block scammer. For it only keeps the scammer from praying on others. Make sure to sent a pettion to the gm and identify the problem. After the 4th/5th petition the GM finally sent me a responce of the problem and notifed me that the said "scammer" was in fact using a bot program and that further trading actions should be carfully reviewed and re-reviewed.
I lost my full +3 avadon set and 4 bo earings inteded for my clanmates...no real lost for me for it was extra armor from one of my alts... But I live and learn and yes its just a game.
It can be cruel and downright dasterly at times in and out side of the safety zone. But i think thats why we flys keep running to that shinny light, and continue playing l2...

Then again, maybe everyone should run non stop scamming trades bots. As long as theres nobody policing up the scammers or ncsoft takes bigger steps to insure and protect whats little integrty it has left.
a gm has told me before that someone was NOT using a bot program, instead of saying that they were investigating it. makes me really wonder whats going on, when i petition some bots and they soe 2 minutes before the gm replies "we're going to look into this next week."

to the OP: it never pays to be hasty. you might want to look through some of the more commonly run scams to familiarize yourself with them. there is no reason to get this far in the game and not know that ppl will try to take your stuff from ya. as far as banning people who open trade windows, it would be near impossible (i would think) to determine whether the other person is attempting to get peoples gear, or simply misclicked as part of their own trade. ive had people open trades with my main and put their gear into the trade window, thinking they were clicked on their alt. did i take it, no, but it is readily apparant that the trade was not meant for me.
stuff happens; you just need to be aware of whats going on around you :)
All I can say to anyone who ever gets caught out by any form of name or trade scam like this is firstly it's unfortunate. I know it's no real help but learn from it, obviously you won't fall for this again.
Secondly - and I can't say this enough times - if you are at all unsure, use the messenger service, private chat or vent. Just double double check who you are trading with. If it is still a problem move away from the area you are in to the far side of the track and set up a shop. Make sure no-one is nearby who can access your shop first and sell everything to your friend for 1A.
If it continues and you know it is a scammer, 1 stem normally does the trick, especially if you refuse to press ok and just leave it in the trade window :)

It was the first time i heard about this scam... well about the scammer spaming trade windows n geting lucky once in awhile, which seams to be what happened with the OP, to bad man.... i hate scammers!!

Honestly, the simplest aqnd most imperative thing to learn from this, and from every other instance of scamming to do with trades, do what NC tells you in the Do You Know bit on the homepage- the past few times it has read 'ONLY TRADE ITEMS AWAY THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO LOSE FOREVER'
Rant all you like guys, in an instance like this, it is, undeniably, the victims' own haste and impatience, and sheer blindness, that lets these scammers get away with it.
Best thing you can do in the aftermath, as opposed to ranting about it in a forum that has the warning at the beginning to NOT RANT, is to take a screenie, remember the name, and warn others about the scammer.
PS I see a lot of B/A graders with a OEd Homu, which is C grade. Sure they suck, but... that isn't the point...
