Funny you mention that, i was acually looking for info on AION today, its been around for awhile now and havent seen no update to the site at NCsoft store.

Any info would be great as i cant seem to find any.
I still remember the things Li2 promissed us. Dragons to ride on, ladders to scale the walls etc.

Angel wings are fun and all but like the wyvern useless to me if only the happy few get to fly them.
aion was still in development during comic-con sd this summer. it is supposedly slated for beta late this year, and release in '07

from KoreaGames.com, via Warcry:

‘Lineage 3’, expected to spearhead the boom of MMORPGs on the heels of ‘Lineage’ and ‘Lineage 2’, is now under development at the NCsoft Studio in Korea. No more details have been publicized yet except for the fact that the game will be an extension of the same episode shared by other ‘Lineage’ series games. ‘Lineage 3’ will be unveiled with much pomp and circumstance in the first half of 2007.

There will be very few major details about L3 for a while but we will get to see some very minor details about it soon enough :)
I can't wait to fight for the closed beta. ;)

I hope an account with an active L1 and 3 active L2s is enough ;)

But since it still is deep in the limbs I'll remind you not to get too excited.
Look at my sig...
just one thing: whatever the game cover tells you, dont believe it. and if you see amazing things on the game cover..dragons and stuff, then dont expect those feautures to be added to L3 until L4 is almost out!

speaking from my L2 experience hoho, dont get me wrong, i love L2, but the cover of the game and all lol, took them years to get close to what it advertised.
I've read that they are going to release some info early 2007.

Though I am seriously looking at Aion (Demons/Angels/Factional warfare [more my speed] how can you go wrong?!?!?) I am intrigued about L3.

My first thought though is that the game play experience will have to be significantly different. I will probably be hovering around 80 by then so that is a lot of effort to put into a character to just leave it. And I don’t have time to seriously play more than 1 online game.

I would also hope that they put some imagination into the classes.

Of course (and I know myself so well) I’m a bit of a graphics “[censored]”. If the graphics and Art design are there it might be enough to tempt me should the game play NOT be different.
I dispise factional warfare. Especially when your race is a factor. I like the clan warfare system in place in Lineage 2 which is why I still play it. Politics are an issue. Although I'd like to have more controllable resources.

wow thats cool News I didn't think they be giving out info on L3 so soon.

I'd think to hear something by 08 tho, cause they did say they started to work on it about year & half ago.

I think Aion has protentenal, I saw the SS of it when I looked at the link from PlayNC's site. but a few mouths ago they didn't have a whole lot of info about it to go around, so I dismissed the game.
Warcry may have quoted it correctly (" ‘Lineage 3’ will be unveiled with much pomp and circumstance in the first half of 2007,") but that is just over 3/4 of a year away. I don't think it will be released that soon. It would have to enter beta within the next 4 months to get a June 2007 release date, yes?

nah They can start to release basic info about the game to get people interrested in it and to make them think about that games release to slow people from going to other games and getting totally involved in it.

it would make GOOD sence to release info at E3 about L3, and for video games E3 is the place to to do it!

Yeah, I can understand that. It really does change the whole feel of the system to have a factional warfare system.

I however despise the clan war/alliance war system. So that is why I am looking forward to Aion. Great graphics, compelling world and factional combat.

The only reason I play L2 is for the sieges as that comes closer to what I am looking for. Large scale battles with very cut and dried goals. There is “our” side and “their” side. You go at it and in the end there is a winner.

In the clan war system it seems you get a lot of people who start bringing too many emotions and personal tastes into the whole thing. Player x despises player y and pk’s him. Then you get all the nonsense on the boards, “he said/she saids”, hurt feelings, people who can’t divorce themselves from the idea that it is only a game etc. With factional it is "this is your enemy - have at it". And that works for me.

Now mind you, I completely understand why people would like that type of game play because there are people who really get off on that type of drama and adrenaline rush, shifting loyalties, game play.

But I’m not one of them, so if Aion is what it says it will be then I am there.

If L3 has different servers for different players and player styles (including a more hardcore version – why not?) then that will play a big part in my decision as well. We’ll see.
I hope that L3 isn't released until AT LEAST 2010, it will take me at least another three years to see what L2 has to offer.

I suspect/hope that the 2007 date is an old old old estimate that cannot be relied upon.
I hope this thread is moved soon to Off Topics...
I don't believe that it will be released in 2007. Just info in early 2007. Though they did say that hey wanted to see if they could do a 3 year development cycle but thought that it wouldn't be possible. Therefore not 2007.
As far as i can gather, production of l3 began more then a year and a half ago, If anything i think production of L3 started the moment L2 officially went live.

Considering the fact that NCsoft seemed to be reasonably happy with the performance and abilities of the more inferior Unreal 2.x engine in comparison to what unreal 3 engine is saposed to diliver, plus, ncsoft being able to pull some strings and let the creators of the engine know about there own concerns about what they experienced and would like changed about what the unreal 2.x engine lacked.

Considering that, then add in another factoid that unreal 3 engine is still being developed today while epic works on the UT2007 game material itself, making suttle changes or additions as they become realistic. UT2007 has been pushed back again, not to mention more of the other unreal 3 engine based games.

No, seriously, i'd expect perhaps an NCSoft annoucement between 2007-mid 2007, and perhaps even a few preview actual ingame content videos and whatnot by either mid 2007-fall 2007.

AND if things go all gravy, expect perhaps closed beta by either end of 2007 or start of 2008.

Frankly i'd royally love to get my hands into any L3 content i can muster.

And knowing the differences between the U2E and U3E, L3 will look like the best game out there, and will royally rock any MMORPG available, AND even possibly become the biggest MMORPG in the world if they can get enough exposure and build the game very well.

AND even possibly become the biggest MMORPG in the world if they can get enough exposure and build the game very well.

Hmmm... agreed with everything you said until this sentence. I think that the average people in the western market would not be interested in a completely open pvp game. Nor will they be interested in the type of economy or type of grind that L3's predecessor's enjoy.

So, if the developers are still wedded to this type of gameplay I don't see L3 being a powerhouse in the western markets like casual games such as WoW.

If you mean world wide, including the Korean market then perhaps. I still think this is a niche game.
The problem with Lineage2 is it just doesn't have exposure, everywhere i go it's WoW this and that, filling the shelves of stores, posters plastered all over the walls... And you even mention the name lineage2, in a gaming hall, out of probably 10,000 people, 2 would stand up for lineage2, and 3000 of them for WoW.

No no, Alot of people thoroughly enjoy lineage2, even with the pvp and the grind, it's the fact that you can do anything pretty much that people stay. it's the very few that feel left behind (because they started much later then most of the others). And L2s currently "issues".

L3 i think would Boom and blow the doors of WoW around the world IF NCsoft can get some **** good AD Campaigns going, Thoroughly use all the PR fanatics to there advantages, "leak" information about it on a regular and unscripted basis about it months before it's release (if not years).

And a month before it comes out, get 3 full blown TV ads and internet related ads setup with ncsoft utterly excellent CGI render and ingame video footage like videos.

I've NEVER saw a lineage2 add on TV. And If NCSoft could make it serious enough, they could nail L3 by getting a few of those ads on fairly significantly watched TV spots for NA and Europe just to put the last nail in the conceptial coffin for WoW.

It can be done, and l3 with l2+fixes gameplay, would do it, all WE and NCsoft needs is ncsoft to followup.
l3 = age of bots ?

naaa...... thats l2 .... alll chronicles
I'm still dubious.

Of all the people I know who play video games, not one of them likes the idea that L2 is an open pvp game. I've known so many people leave because the game "just wasn't for them" with regards to the content as well as the PvP.

A good portion of them actually went to Wow and are still playing there.

And that's the problem. People keep saying "L2 could blow wow out of the water". However, they aren't the same game. WoW is for casual players. What's great about that game is that players who might have the propensity to play a "bit more hardcore" but who have never played an mmo, might start Wow, realize what playing an mmo is about and then look for something more hardcore.

I'm always of the mind that no "one game" needs to be the winner for everone to win. Games that allow people an easy entry into the genre are only good for L2.

But most people have lives, family, meaningful careers etc.

They just don't have time to be competitive in L2, even if they did like PvP. And I really don't think that the majority of gamers like open pvp. Of course I could be wrong. But that is my sense.
II actually know many "hardcore" players, in the sense that they can play and grind hard, who still won't do L2.

The griefing and PvP just doesn't suit them, some servers worse than others.
Well i doubt Lineage3 will be identical to that of lineage2 at all, gameplay and mechanics may be similare but identical, i was saying if they were able to fix and supply us all with the options for the casual players, the hardcore players, and the inbetween, it would boom.

The fact that there isn't many MMORPG'ers in the first place is that they are all recommended to try WoW first and i've ran into so many that are so disappointed that they just base it all on that single game.

That why i said ncsoft need to seriously penetrate every avenue of advertising l3 before and after it's initial release. Get people to swing on the L3 before they move onto other MMOs

Good Points PvR... I get you now! ;)
Also, its really weird that the lineage line has virtually no merchandising. WoW has lots of figurines, sculptures, books, posters, promotional material, trading card games, partnersships with other companies like Dell WoW laptops.

Lineage 2 has...well, just about nothing. :(

sometimes it takes awhile for someone to understand me ;)

Advertising is merchandise, tv spots, internet web banners, interviews and sneak previews through the world on well known and high ratings TV spots. Being able to plug l3 at every chance and push it real good at every convention of any kind. I mean i heard NCSoft could blast out a serious sound to actually piss off other companies at those conventions, they really need to put that kind of enthusiasm into other things that get it known.

Well, in the USA anyway. But don't think NCSoft isn't willing! Guild Wars has plenty or merchandise floating around, even a new custom keyboard coming out. :D

NCSoft, I'm telling you: Ol Mahum plushies. Bank. :p

Well, as I understand it, Guild Wars was created and managed by someone other than NCSoft... NC essentially hosts the game, and of course gets a fair amount of profit, but it's not a game they developed in-house like Lineage is.

. . . Ol Mahum plushie >.>
I can't read Kanji (I think that's Kanji), but that's the point isn't it. NC is essentially an asian company, they target asian markets, and their core market is asian. NCNA and NCEurope are essentially subsidiaries who are given a budget and basically left to their own devices as long as they follow company policy. CoH/CoV and GuildWars are developed by american companies and produced/hosted by NCSoft, but they probably have sort of independent budgets when it comes to things like PR and advertising. NC does advertise a lot, but in Asia where it's core market is.
I agree Pvr. A little advertising would go a long way. Look at the success of games like Final Fantasy 7 after running tv ads all the time. Now Square/Enix dont even have to run commercials for new games. Everyone just know when they're coming out. Of course I dont watch enough tv anymore to know who is trying to sell what. Finding L2 was a complete accident for me. I went to game stop hoping to find an mmo because I have never played one before and really wanted to try one. All I could think was "I cant wait to buy Everquest so I can go home and try it out." Luckily they didnt have a copy of Everquest. I thought I would just try this Lineage 2 game I was just looking at. I was sure it had to be one of those abandoned mmo's that 3 people total are playing. But what the hell its my first mmo. Ill give it a shot. Well still here and no longer looking for Everquest. Now a bit of advertising would really put this game over the top.

True, advertising is the key. Just look at all those games that turned out to suck even if they looked great when you saw the add.
precisely.... Sony draws on this by showing nothing but CGI ads and when you get the game, it's absalutely crappy graphics and gameplay yet... they sell millions.
