Nope. You have to delete them and start a new one with the name you want. :p

this is one of the reason i would agree into not making person change their name
no offence to the Op but it what it comes to my mind..

GM: sure no problem just tell me the name that you want and at the next minute is change.

Consider korea with the latest patch got name change for a fee, and transfer chars between acconts :P well yeah.

oh, slight problem with petioning for a namechange by pretending it is offensive.

yup, NCSoft will be glad the name of the character. however, you donb't get the ability to pick the new name, instead it becomes "namechangexxx" where the x's are a number.

I was under the impression that it was changed to a name similar to the original, but lacking anything offensive, eg "DirtyWitch".

Yeah I think that's how it works too, like SillySlut might become SillyBuff or something.

So this JohnDoe petitions a GM to report a player with an offensive name, and this player turns out to be himself....

Kind of.. They change it to Namechangexxxx, and then the person who got his name changed can petition for the GM to change their name again to something they want (I wonder if they can change their names back to something offensive, considering how automated the petition responses are.. )..

actually my old clan had a guy we used to call namechange
his name was offensive so nc changed it to namechange0x (x for discretion) and told him he just had to petition to get it changed to whatever he wanted
guy liked the name so much he kept it lol, not sure if he ever changed it or not

One of my toons got a namechangexxxx after ohhh hrmm about a year? Maybe more. If I was a sps/nuker I'd go on a killing spree then petition the new name.

Yes, and it's just what I heard... I can't imagine anyone would, except for the above person who said they'd go PK crazy and then change.

Actually the name I (really) wanted was originally taken, but is free now. So if namechanging was implemented, I'd take advantage of it.

I guess I'm somewhat of a minority case tho.

You DO realize that you're talking on the L2 forums, right?

Yes it is possible to change your in game name.

If the name, at the time you chose it was something offensive, but maybe didn't realize it...or if it breaks an agreement with the EULA that you unintentionally did, you can change it. There may be rare cases otherwise.

Usually you contact the GMs threw support and they will change your name to "NameChange3029" or something. You then have a list of names that you would like and send it to them. Then you get one of your names, if they are available.

Your name may be forced to change due to someone reporting it as offensive.

But if you just don't like your name, because now you think "cooldude" isn't cool, you can't just go and change your name to 11i0o0i11 or something because you think it would be cooler.

So if you made a mistake and you wanted your name to be "NiceGuy" But instead typed "****Guy" most likely you can have it changed.
