Best AG Set for SH

Player Questions Started Last reply 95 posts
I'm currently saving up for AG & I was wondering what is the best AG Armour Setup for Spellhowler?
Assuming AG means A grade, either Nitemare or DC.

Your casting speed sucks - - DC.

You want more damage, don't care much about casting speed - Nitemare.

It depends on how you want to set it up.

True!

Another way to say it is:
Nightmare: PVE
DC: PVP

When I get my AG stuff I would like to set it up for PVP, because my character will be meant for PVP more then anything, my current weapon/armour & tats all contribute to casting spd at the moment. Should I eventually change my weapon from a casting spd to damage dealing when I hit AG for PVP? Keep my tattoos & my robes for casting spd? I also always have pots on hand to increase my casting spd.

For a nuker there isnt really any other SA than Acumen to consider so go with that, Your m.atk is high enough to 2-shot alot of good-exp mobs so you wont suffer much from going an casting speed setup.

Well when I hit AG I'm not concerned about 1-2 shots for mobs, I want a PVP set up for her, so I'm trying to figure out to go higher casting spd to get the kill or more M Attack!
A fine mixture of both casting speed and M Attk is my opinion about that.

So you suggesting a casting spd set? & a magic attack weapon? Or the other way around?
Attack mage armour and a casting speed weapon :)
There is a thread in the general area titled "A different type of SH" or something like that that you should read...

I personally go the matk over casting speed route as its not expected.. does ALOT of damage and has the added benefits of sleep/root/fear/trance resist as well as more HP.

99% of the server goes with DC set for casting speed... very few of us go NM for matk.

I however am perfectly happy with being able to 1-3 shot everyone (most being 2 shots). I think at last seige the most nukes I had to cast on a single person was 4 before they went down for the dirt nap.

Always acumen weapon untill they nerf it Wether you go casting speed or matk.. if you go speed.. may as well go faster.. if you got matk.. may as well get the acumen to counter the slower casting as result of no DC set

As I am not a nuker, nor do I even dare to play one...I can't say it the way you did.

It's exactly what I wanted to say though. Thumbs up for your courage of being both different, and still standing your ground in PvE and PvP
I haven't used my nightmare set since c3.

Mobs are so easy to kill now, and the -cast speed really just isn't worth it. DC all the way.

You have considerable less downtime with Nightmare then with DC...a duo Nuker-SE where the nuker is in DC will be buff-5minPvE-rest-5min-rebuff.

With Nightmare you can go on for like 3-6 buffrounds depending of how much herbs of mana that drop without much problem.
depends on how many SE/ees you have :P

I don't have downtime with 2500/1100 matk/cast :P

then again, I don't level my mage anymore cause they suck.
I consider any casting speed over 650 in pvp to be good enough especially compared to the damage I can put out.

Once you get to high lvls and get PoW then matk build is a very viable option.

Example.. 76 SS with +4 INT/WIT/CON
Full buffs, Dances and PoW, NM robes and +4 SoM
matk = 3.9k+ Cast speed = 850ish or so.
With Dark vortex I'm hitting A graders for 2.8-3.5k each followed up by a 2.3k death spike.. Ouch

*Note the following is only a guess and speculation*
I can only imagine a fully buffed Speed caster with dances and PoW to have an matk in the area of 2.5-3k and a cast speed of 1.5k+.. probably nuking for 1.2-1.9k damage each nuke.

Which do you think is harder to heal against? 2 shots to cp then 2 shots to HP.. or "oops his cp is gon.. **** he's dead" with 2 shots? :)

Sure alot of ppl say that DPS is god.. I'll agree being able to dish out 5-6k damage in 4 seconds is nice.. personally i prefer to put out 6-8k in that same time.

I've never had a problem with mana, I'm 74 and have Full DC Set +5 Wit, +4 Int -9men. My SE is 70 and she never runs out of mana if I sit her down while not recharging me.

Basically all I do it go out and nuke until I become low and go back to her. Recharge to full. Sit her back down and go at it again. Have never had a problem with this unless some accidental things happen like having to buff extra or something.

And I've always found that in most situations the casting speed will always save you before extra matk will. (Note: I went full Matk set up 40-52, then switched to Avadon w/ SoWD until 58 or so when I got an SoV w/ Acumen) I've tried both ends of the spectrum for the SH and can honestly say that for the highest Matk class already, having the extra cast speed really saves you.

matk = 3.9k+ Cast speed = 850ish or so.

Not really, considering the damage follows the square root of the matk. So, your matk would have to be 4 times higher to be able to hit for twice as much damage.
not really, better cast speed is ALWAYS better in pvp. esp. for a SH. If only for the sole reason to avoid more spell cancellations.

you'll run out of mp fast at the rock with only 1 se.
And thus "Speed/DPS over all" arguments begin once again.

You go right ahead and think that.. dont try to convert me to a cookie cutter nuker with a candy striper DC set.. never gonna happen. You think speed is best.. I find otherwise.. accept it.

Keep in mind.. I only refer to MASS pvp.. I'll freely admit that in 1v1 the matk nuker has less of a chance vs a speed nuker..
But I dont 1v1.. I do mass pvp where casting speed isnt the end all ability that everyone likes to think.

btw comparing matk build at 40-60 isn't the same as matk build at 75+

My slower cast speed is perfectly acceptable penalty for the damage I do. I accept this.. so many others dont though.. ah well.
nukers aren't really good in mass pvp in the first place, with archers running around who crit you for 6500 in the face, and daggers who crit you through cp for 7000 in the butt.

while everyone else runs around with elemental/divine/other stacked resist...

depends on how many SE/ees you have :P

Only one and that is more then enough to handle 7 buff rounds without no downtime with a skilled sorceress at your side to nuke away. Let the SE pick up the mana pots while the sorceress does occasional body to mind and picks up HP pots to compensate. You go a loooong way with that technique (of course there will always be those who will claim otherwise).

If the two are skilled enough you need nothing more...Besides 3 healers/buffers for one char is overkill.
have you ever leveled at the fod rock? I run myself out of mp there in 4 minutes, standing/walk mode.

I'm glad to see there are still a few who can play the game in another fashion then the mass...

Indeed the debate of the two robes always leads back the the Speed/DPS discussion while that is totally so never conclusive due to different play styles.

I'm a lvl 64 sorceress who has always played her own style and NEVER (untill C, and through B cause I never went for B) had what was SUPPOSED to be THE nuker set. I have learned to play with my disadvantages and I have always come out of it very well.

As RuriRuri I have gone for Nightmare and am quite satisfied with it and as Ruri I also think it has it's pro and cons just like the DC set. On 1v1 I will not stake a bett on who will win as I think I'll be kissing the floor but in mass PvP the odds are different. Besides the argument of archers and daggers being around critting you is as bad for DC as well as NM set. Those are THE enemies of a nuker weither you are fast speeded or High damage dealer.

Besides 3 healers/buffers for one char is overkill.

2 EE's (inc. PoW), BD OOP se and Prophet.. 1 nuker = 10% in 2-4 hours @ lvl 76 if you know the spots

have you ever leveled at the fod rock? I run myself out of mp there in 4 minutes, standing/walk mode.

Would I be soloing there as a lvl 64?

So my answer is no. But that was the point that my general, Orvieta was trying to make earlier to which someone replied they never had downtime ;) Point made I think on that end, not saying DC is better or worse then Nightmare just stating it has also it's downsides and the one who claims it's not isn't really being honest with itself.

Might be true ^^ wouldn't know I don't do power leveling and it doesn't interest me neither :) Give me a life SE and I'm totally happy..Hey wait...I have that :D

I haven't used my nightmare set since c3.

Mobs are so easy to kill now, and the -cast speed really just isn't worth it. DC all the way.

I just don't want just Casting Speed thou
15% casting speed from my weapon, my greater haste pots & +4 WIT tattoo should give me enough casting speed to make up for the NM Set & - 2 WIT. Wouldn't it?

I would say: Yes...But I'm sure there are plenty of people here who will be more then happy to proof me wrong ;)

Anyways, it all depends on how you want to play your char and on what you want to focus yourself with her (something I always tell my clanies and anyone who asks me how to play a char ;) ).
no, in c5, nm will usually gimp your xp because your killrate is A LOT slower. DC is better in nearly any situation, cause you can almost always 2 shot the mobs with DC. I haven't seen any I can't yet in my leveling area.

I two shot mobs in my Nightmare so basically don't see your point.

This is the setup I use and find it immensly enjoyable.. and the added benefit is I dont look like very other **** de nuker out there.

I have been considering changing my +4 con tat to a +1 wit to help make up for the casting speed hit from demon to NM. this wont decrease my matk but will increase my cast speed.

Pick the setup that suits you.. dont go speed set just cause so many ppl tell you to. There are a few of us matk nukers out there are are more dangerous then a speed caster.

Remember in Mass PvP when it comes to a nuker.. He who targets first wins.

1v1 is the suck
Mass PvP is where its at for matk Howlers
as I said.. in mass pvp casting speed isnt as important since whomever you target will die.. question is.. you wanna cast 4 nukes or 2 to kill them?
I agree totally with the last thinsg said by Ruri :)

Besides wasn't LII supposed to be mass PvP anyways ;)?
In Mass PvP..

DC Wearing speed casters are like the main battle tanks.. they move in fast.. shoot 4-5 fast nukes hope they kill someone and try to get out again. They are great at 1v1 encounters due to their fast cast/reload/cyclic rate.

NM Matk casters are more like the field artillery.. we stay farther back and launch majorly damaging attacks.
We suck in 1v1 since thats not how we are designed.

DC casters will always be primary target till you nuke a few ppl.. then NM caster becomes target one (assuming your NME is smart)

Melee getting nuked by DC caster. "OMG getting nuked.. heal heal heal..."

Melee getting nUked by NM caster. "OMG what happend to my cp.. ****it I need rez"

I would love to have a healers input.. which is harder to heal against. fast continuous damage from a speed caster or huge HP chunks from a power caster? Which has the better chance of survivng?

Remember a healer ccan probably match a DC casters damage per heal more or less.. IE bishops can heal for over 1.5k.. about the same as a DC casters nuke.
Can a bishop out heal hits ranging in the 2.5k+ area as effeciently?
How large is the MAtk difference between DC and NM light? Only 16% or so, right?

<too lazy to dig through the numbers>
To the OP.. whatever you do.. pay no attention to Maline.. he has proven he has no experience whatsoever when it comes to Nukers.. he just likes to type. (Go see the c5 sleep thread for dozens of examples)

NM light?? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Yea you sure have the experience to comment on nuker threads...

until you get crit in the face for 7k.

How is this different then anyone else getting "crit in the face"?

btw with NM we have more HP then DC wearers
*NM robes obviously. 'xcuse the mistake - oh-so-mature of you.

(ETA: Remember that +WIT also means +MCrit.)
I just love the theory here :)

Well I'll leave the healing bit to be answered by my general :) SHe has a better view on those things then I have...I'm just basically happy I still stand at the end of the road LOL not really have the time to check if she had a hard time or not (but I presume she would).

As for bishops I don't know really don't have one. But we are drifting off the subject ;) (nice discussion though)
Hey... you wanna be a nitpicker.. I'm game
I'm just saying archers > mages.

my he sub would do way better in mass pvp than my mage.

Mass PvP is where its at for matk Howlers

until you get crit in the face for 7k.

Or above 10K with NM :p ... Still I think in PvP it's very RARE to have those odds...A 4K+ crit I am inclined to agree but 7K?
I've crit for 8k+ on full majestic set(unsealed)
I've crit for 12k+ on BO sets
archer crit.... you know.. by some 78 hawkeye running aroudn with drac focus bow, drac set, AQ/baium rings and 500 crit rate.

I'm just saying archers > mages.

my he sub would do way better in mass pvp than my mage.

Yes I agree with that specially now the sleep has been nerved down and archers been maxed out and sleep being the only opener to stand ANY sort of chance against an Archer stun shot (well in my experience then).

But indeed archers will own nukers piece of cake specially now our ownly crowd control was brought back to the stoneages. Would I be able to bring out one single shot before kissing the floor? I'd have to check with out clan's HE to see the outcome as we did with the sleep control before.

But this point doesn't give NM nor DC any plus or cons...Both would kiss the floor be it fast speed or high damage delaing
AKA..

He who targets first wins...

If the nuker/archer targets you first.. you die.. if you target them first.. they die.

Melee vs melee is really the only place you can counter attack the person attacking you.. if a nuker or archer is involved.. he who targets first wins...
Well, one thing is obvious - it's easier to heal someone who's taking less damage, whichever route that is. ;) I'm inclined to say that what seems to be a roughly 12-16% bump in MAtk (which is not linear) can't really beat out the ~25% bump in cast speed from DC (or, if you're talking not from base but from NM, 35%) as far as sheer DPS is concerned.

Of course NM set has its own implications, but I'd personally much rather throw myself at a slow than at a weak nuker.
So you'd rather attack an matk build then a speed build...

btw you need to put a disclaimer whenever you start posting %'s and #'s that they are not fact nor are they stone or cannon to NC.. they are your made up numbers and guesses.

Wouldn't wanna confuse the newbies
For matk you might just as well keep the demon set.. +4 int is about the same as +2 int and +8% matk.. Plus I'm sure people will never worry about you in mass pvp: "Who should I take first, the A grade nuker in DC or the C grade?" :p

Of course, +4% regen helps, but it's not worth the 150 mil more.. And the extra pdef is not gonna save you from the 5k damage daggers..

Awesome advice guys thanks a ton, I'm going mainly PVP, So even if NM damages my chance of recovering time or takes longer to level, I'm in a clan so I will always share my exp anyways in groups & at AG I'm not in a rush for SG & everyone knows it takes long & little exp anyways.
The thing I was looking for was the best setups for both PVP 1on1 & Mass PVP. I was looking for a setup with weapon & robes in AG that will do the trick. I do not know yet if I will do more mass or 1on1 PVP. I just want to be prepared for both if I have to, as well as be able to defend myself if I'm out soloing, or with the clan doing a siege. Of course the only PVP 1on1 I would want to do safely withou dropping gear would be in the arena. When the nuker doesn't have room to silence/slow & run & nuke it's hard to win in the arena anyways :) So I gues,s I would be looking for a perfect PVP Mass setup.

For matk you might just as well keep the demon set.. +4 int is about the same as +2 int and +8% matk.. Plus I'm sure people will never worry about you in mass pvp: "Who should I take first, the A grade nuker in DC or the C grade?" :p

Actually at 75+.. NM gives about 230 more matk then demon does.
With BtB6 I got 4.9k+ HP and 2.xk+ CP
Not to mention I dont have the MP problems in prolonged seige that DC casters do

Actually I forced ppl to make this choice in my seiges.. go for the guy wearing DC or the one wearing Demon (this is cause I dont have NM helm but manage to borrow for seige)

The DC nuker died getting mass targeted... I never took a single hit myself but was nuking over upwards of 3k on vortex and 2.5k+ on followup nuke

Thats kinda strange, you would rather take a nuker who casts slower, but does more damage output, then a weaker one who does less damage?
Less damage per shot. Castpseed nukers have considerably higher DPS.

The numbers in the last post are rough - but I can get you the actual proper numbers with even equipment if you insist, Ruri.

And could you stop saying he? It's really annoying.

They cast faster so they will go threw MP faster & use more because it will take more hits to take the target down.

Compared to a MAttack Nuker who uses less MP, because they don't have to cast as many nukes to take the target down.

Problem: Casting faster or More Attack Damage - still both have the same chance of the spell getting interrupted?

Would you be able to check at all if you got the chance, the difference in how much the MAttack is compared to a Nuker who goes for the Speed Attack? Does the Spd make up so much more of a difference then the M Attack would?
Less chance with DC due to faster casting... but I've honestly only had a problem when I'm getting shot by more then 1 archer or getting melee'd.

Again thats one of the drawbacks of power over speed.
But one I am willing to accept since it dosent happen often enough for me to care.
Tiffy I have a fellow clanny that is gpoign the speed set as opposed to my damage set.

only differences between us is he is 1 lvl lower then me so dosent have the vortex spell i do, and his SoM is +3 at most... neither of us have acumen on them yet.

I will try to get some tests done in the next day or two.

I.e
Both fully buffed using same sacrifical lamb.. err guinea pig.. er volenteer to target.

Who uses more nukes
Who kills faster
Which can be healed more effecivly.. 4-5 smaller chunks or 2-3 huge ones.

I haven't tested before cause I need a NM helm to borrow and a same lvl and skill howler/screamer

Dunno what server you on but if its Bartz you are welcome to watch

P.S these tests will NOT include Damage VS speed to see who kills the other first..

Like I said.. this is for mass pvp.. not 1v1 where you already got the guy targeted.
in pvp it is all about DPS and spell cancels. with that -8 men you want to get off spells asap.

think about it this way, if you are a 77 SH and you go try to vortex some 75 nuker, he's gonna hit you with normal nuke while you are in the middle of casting vortex, and probably 99% of the time, your vortex will get spell cancelled, then you are gonna get cancelled, surrended and nuke away on while you try to figure out what to do next. gf.

I'm on Sieg, but I can make a turn of course on Bartz & watch if you give me a time & date :)
Just make a thread or PM me on here & let me know how the tests work out, I would love to hear it before I do invest into one of these two AG sets.
I have both sets and I can tell you that nm sucks... lol.

seriously, do you think an matk build has ANY chance vs this? (http://www.siegedom.com/Files/L2/Shot01041.jpg)

The Problem is when your in mass PVP I don't think when you target one archer that the same archer could be targetting you (he could target someone else) SO you could take him down with out him getting a chance to switch targets. I'm also not asking for just 1on1 :) I'm looking for how both sets deal with PVP Mass & 1on1 over all out of those two area's which 1 set is better to do both. :)
In Mass PVP it's it's a big blur & your first objective is to take those targets down.
in mass pvp you go for bishops and ees first, take out their heals and res's, the DDs will go down soon after.

basically, nm will get you killed in pvp, and I have already explained why.

hell with necros running around in c5 landing anchor on me through DC and aegis and 1200 mdef, WITHOUT being gloomed, I wouldn't want to EVER wear anything but DC... gf when anchor gets landed like 95% of the time.
There isn't a question here. DC is much better than Nightmare in almost any situation. You hit a little harder in Nightmare (a little, mind you), but cast so slowly that any nuker around your lvl with a casting speed setup will beat you most of the time.

Much, much higher DPS in DC is more than a fair tradeoff for doing a little less damage than a nuker in Nightmare (who also casts much, much slower). With Nightmare, you NEED full casting speed buffs to even approach a decent cast speed.

Nightmare isn't even very good in PvE unless you just need that little extra damage to save you a shot on a mob. Even then, having your skills (namely Vortex spells and Body to Mind) refresh so slowly is a pain.
so if SPEED is so inportend why not go with Tallum robe set
???
btw why do you dudes show alwas with buffs pictures rater give raw data without buffs with buff's you can make a dwarf a killing machine
i think a nightmare robe set owns for SH especialy if they have +5 INT on them they hit then so hard that you can feel the pain in your chair especialy when the Nightmare robe add a other +2 INT and 8% DAMAGE lol you talking about a INT of 51 you call that not EFFICENT o.0 yeah right

I have both sets and I can tell you that nm sucks... lol.

Ya I heard you have both sets & stopped using NM after C3.. God I hate the look of DC on Dark Elfs, WTB better DC Texture. :p

so if SPEED is so inportend why not go with Tallum robe set

Tallum robes don't offer +7 runspeed (important when you run around speed-debuffed thanks to PoW or CoV), they don't offer cancel resistance, and they don't offer extra PDef. DC casts just as fast as Tallum and doesn't substract from your damage - it's not like INT doesn't matter, it's just that it doesn't matter as much as WIT.

8% MAtk, not damage. That's a big difference...

in mass pvp you go for bishops and ees first, take out their heals and res's, the DDs will go down soon after.

basically, nm will get you killed in pvp, and I have already explained why.

hell with necros running around in c5 landing anchor on me through DC and aegis and 1200 mdef, WITHOUT being gloomed, I wouldn't want to EVER wear anything but DC... gf when anchor gets landed like 95% of the time.

I agree with Kayosoni. I've tried both and in PvP, the DC is the set. The interrupts are too many with the slower casting speed of Nightmare. And quite frankly, you get interrupted twice there is a good chance you will die (against mage or archer). Interrupted 3 times forget it.

so if SPEED is so inportend why not go with Tallum robe set

I call it too slow. You can have m.atk through the roof and not have it matter if you have no casting speed. The difference in damage isn't enough to justify the huge hit to casting speed, as some of us are trying to say.

Tallum, in addition to not penalizing INT (though -2 isn't really isn't a big difference to damage), lacks the nice bonuses of the DC set. Poison/Bleed resist? lol.
i see the point still it's bad programing then or DC need a nerf or 5 to equal the other armor's sets sinds NCsoft makes anyone like clones
but i will resist not to be a other mans clone :)

I can appreciate that, and yes... we all shouldn't be clones. Maybe they should change the other sets so they will allow more serious consideration.

But "being different" for the sake of being different is just as bad as "following along".

My life is so completely different than most people's lives. I do what I please for the most part and my goals are different. Essentially a very non-conformist life. But not because I want to be different. Because it works for me. And it makes sense. So, in conjunction with that...

I picked Dark Crystal. Not because I wanted to follow along or that I don't have enough moxy to be different. I picked it because "it works".

Try out the sets (if you can). If you find another set will suit you well use it. Whatever the set is. But don't hold on to dear life to an idea just because others also think that it is a good idea.

Decide on your goal, pick what works, use it.
Words of wisdom both for building characters and life. :D

Yeah, I love it when people claim to be making bizarre or nonsensical choices just for the sake of supposedly differentiating themselves from what they perceive as the majority:

"...but I want to be different, just like all of the other nonconformists!"

When I was in college, I dated a girl whose roommates were art majors. If you know anything about artists, especially "young would-be" artists, then you know how they all try to be "different".

They always were changing their hairstyles, changing their room decoration, etc.

There was a "formal" dance at the Art school. So, that night I went over my girlfriend's place only to discover that all her Art major roommates were all wearing "the exact same little black dress".

I "bit my tongue" because, if I didn't, later my girlfriend wouldn't :)

Both my clan leader & clan general have tallum & NM robe sets for there main characters. So I was told I could try those out on my SH & see what I think before I made a decision. I just hate running around & looking like all the other SH's :( & I hate, HATE the look of the DC on Dark Elfs, it's gross looking, I feel sick just thinking about it. I'm female so fashion in a way is important to me, I can't help it :(
I ran around town looking for the Karmian boots to match my set hehe If I'm going to play my character, & live with her as main, she's gotta look good & DC just looks like I'm in a circus! :p lol
If you're willing to sacrifice the damage, Tallum might be an "OK" alternative to DC - a bit less pow, but fast casting, good MDef, and there's nothing more **** on a dark elf girl. I don't usually like ****** outfits, but Tallum is just whoa. :D

But it's really not as efficient as DC...

For NM, you probably have less MP per time than in DC/Tallum, despite the + in MP regen, because it doesn't help with BtM at all, while Tallum and DC do (massively).

I'll pull up a few numbers with SoV/Acu+3 or clean SoM+3 up in a bit.

SoV +3 [ Acumen ], +4WIT, +4INT, unbuffed

Tallum: 680 (26) MAtk, 536 Cast Speed
Dark Crystal: 727 (27) MAtk, 536 Cast Speed
Nightmare: 836 (29) MAtk, 402 Cast Speed

Summary: NM does ca. 7% more damage than DC and 12% more damage than Tallum. DC and Tallum have the same speed and are both ~33% faster than NM Robes.

Didn't do the calculations myself ( nyo rocks (http://l2p.bravehost.com/statcalculator.html) ), but the numbers look fairly accurate.

For those insisting on personal experience, I've known a necromancer who was quite happy with her Tallum while she had it - of course that starts looking very different when you come to a point that those 12% extra damage of NM mean you can't two-shot things anymore.

Tyvm MalineII I was also wondering what was better for her a +4 SOV - +3SOV or a +7 Homu, the +7 Homu has 134 M Attk were the +3 SOV has 131 M Attk, which one would be faster considering they both give 15% spd bonus, or does that not matter?
If everyone runs around in DC as nuker, who is going to win in PvP then?

you are all the same...so you know eachothers chances...which are frankly 50-50. I don't believe in DC to be the uber-PvP set, and frankly I hate the look on elves even more then I hate Majestic on a female SE.

I hate it too, thats why it sucks when I hear people tell me about it being the best set out there I was hoping more people who have tried the other sets out with a SH, could give me some hope, by telling me they've actually tried Tallum or NM & it works for them as a decent set up in both PVP, and then give me pointers on what there strategy is for PVP in NM, Tallum, etc.. I already know everyones strategy in DC lol, since every nuker out there wears it BOO
Most die-hard players will never even dare to confess NM and Tallum are good alternatives.
For nukers (as opposed to summoners) weapon grade is not that important. The only reason you might want the SoV over the homu would be to have more weight free to carry shots or GCPPs.

Exactly, it takes less shots to hit mobs then CG!
**** wheres Ley when you want her to tell everyone that NM is a decent armour hehe ;)

She already did...no need to tell more then is needed.

She did? NO I missed it :(

The one who targets first ;)
btw.. one of the necessities of the matk nuker is as high an OE on your weapon as you can get.

I'm scared to go +5 on my SoM till I got a backup..

I've got a +7 Homu & I've got a +3 SOV, I will be OEing the SOV eventually , but also afraid to blow it up lol
A weapon OEd as highly as you can is a necessity for any nuker... wth.

Most die-hard players will never even dare to confess NM and Tallum are good alternatives.

Tallum is an acceptable alternative, though not as good as DC. NM is not if you are looking to have the best overall setup possible (PvP and PvE). If having the optimal setup is not so important for you, then I'm sure you can find a way to make peace with any set.

76+ nukers have a better alternative to DC than NM: Arcana. The casting speed of Arcana is nothing impressive, but the m.atk increase and stun resist are appealing. As far as PvP goes, it's what I would call a situational setup. The relatively low casting speed can be a problem when going head-to-head with a DC nuker, but Arcana with full casting speed buffs makes a decent group PvP set with its high pdef, stun resist, and anti-interruption bonus. It's a nice compromise for m.atk junkies.
Didn't the MAtk boost on Arcana get increased in C5?

Or was that just a typo at some point?
no, it was a typo in c4, it has always been 17%. arcana is a good set for olympiad vs archers... that's about it.

and nukers don't care what grade their weapon is as long as it has high matk? yea right. 5% pvp damage on SoM, 7% pvp damage on arcana mace.

A weapon OEd as highly as you can is a necessity for any nuker... wth.

QFT

There's always something else I can't 2 shot.

I've never had a problem with mana, I'm 74 and have Full DC Set +5 Wit, +4 Int -9men. My SE is 70 and she never runs out of mana if I sit her down while not recharging me.

you'll run out of mp fast at the rock with only 1 se.

I was just saying that I don't run out of mp with this set up. If I did, why would I say I don't? And yeah to the other poster, It is always to each their own. I think though you should always try both ends before you really make up your mind though. I've done both cast speed and M. Atk builds. Cast speed generally equals more survivability especially with the sleep cast nerf (not that I ever had to use it PVE solo, can two shot everything fast enough I never needed to). If you like your matk then that's the way to go.
