Hey all, I've only been playing about a week or two, and I've gone for elf char. I've counted out Elf knight as the skills they learn don't look like anything special, and because as tanks I don't think elf would be much good with so little hp.
So I've gone rogue (about to do the quest), and now I'm stuck deciding my next path.
I've been told Elf ranger are the best because of high speed, evasion and atk speed. I enjoy melee combat just as much as ranged, so I'm totally stuck with which to go for. After looking in at the skills both learn, I noticed at rogue level, you can learn 3 extra levels of bow mastery, and only one level of dagger mastery, is there a huge difference in this and is it for a reason (ie, Elf is better as ranger!?)
Also as rogue you only get light armour mastery, which is fine, but I was wandering if wearing heavy armour after learning the light armour mastery skills still gives you more Pdef than wearing light armour? ovbiously your slower but if I'm using melee, is it more benefitial to be using heavy armour anyway, how does it effect combat?)
Any advice or opionions would be very welcome, as I say, I've only been playing a short while and have never played before, so I'm kinda learning as I go along, but would love som advice chosing which path to take next!.
I've already chosen lol, me and my mate are playing from the UK so we chose Franz cus its in Europe...
I'm starting the scout quest NOW (im playing L2 atm aswell), so I'm definately going PW or SR, still unsure lol.
I don't think you'll go wrong with either, there's no point in asking which class is "better". You should just pick according to the style you favor (dagger = up close and personal, archer = kiting from a distance).

My advice is that you try out both dagger and bow before you hit 40. Try to decide what play style you like the most. Also try to figure out what you like doing. PvP? Grouping? Soloing?
Myself I found archer to be terribly boring. Running around kiting just wasn't my thing. Using a dagger close up was a lot more fun. I guess I'm a melee type player though because nuker classes don't appeal much to me either.
As for your D grade armor question this also depends on your play style. If you plan to only use a bow definatly go with manticore light armor. You need the added mp bonus of the manticore set and you'll be kiting the mobs anyway.
If you plan to only use a dagger you can go either brig or manticore. Heavy armor will have no effect on your fighting abilty or your speed and will give you more hp and pdef (The difference in pdef will decrease as you get higher light armor mastery). Generally, manticore is is better on low whites and greens while brig is better on whites and yellows.
I'd go with manticore because of the higher versatility and if you group you might not tank much anyway :D
Yea well, I have a few mates that play already, so we've started a clan and aim to be PvP in a while when we're up the scratch. I'm using dagger atm, my mate just bought me a cursed Maingauge, and I will have full manticore by tomorow soI'll get a taste of melee in action :)
When I created my char I was town between going elf for SR or human going for Dark Avenger. But chose to go for ranged, but I'm enjoying smashing stuff up atm...
I guess if I go dagger I can always quip a bow and use the bow skills I pick up from lvl 20-40 to harrass people, then when they catch me, whip out me dagger and start slicing!
Armour wise, I decided its silly to try countering Elfs lower hp and def by using heavy as I'll be learning light armour skills like you pointed out... err, right? Also might as well utilise Elfs higher evasion as light armour mastery boost the bonus, rather than not focusing on it at all.
I think that makes sense, at least it does to me atm!
