Please vote below to indicate how interested you would be if NCsoft North America offered the services below for Lineage II.
Please keep in mind that this poll is not intended as a promise that these services will be offered in the future. We would like to get an idea of how the community feels about these possible services. These services may or may not be offered in the future.
Thank you for taking the time to participate in the poll!
I like the idea of changing names becuase I for one chose a name as a joke and now am stuck with it LOL.
Anyway, I think it should be allowed, once per toon and come with some severe penalties...so not something that is done on a whim. Possible penalites:
1) Loss of 1 level per 10 that your toon has, so a level 70 toon would lose 7 levels.
2) Random complete loss of 4x + skill. So you you are say level 70 and a dagger, you might loose all your levels in deadly blow, forcing you to relearn it.
3) Debuff to stats lasting a predetermined time (2 weeks to a month).
We've had a lot of feedback on server transfers already. :) We still welcome the discussion (in another thread please), but we'd like to hear what you think about these two possible offerings. Thanks!
I can see changing the sex. I know of several people who just "oopsed" and realized after it was too late that they didn't like playing the "opposite" sex.
Renaming a toon:
NO way. You named it you keep it. Take the responsibility to live with the "mistake/mistype/joke".
Another reason I would hate to see the rename service would be possible scammers abusing it (or maybe charge 150 dollar per rename per toon per instance as it would surely keep the big scammers at bay).
I'd be more interested in moving one of my characters from one account name to another. I was unaware of "duo boxing" when I started and that said I have two characters on the same account I wouldn't mind splitting up. That would be ideal.
I think we will find MOST people are against name changes. This could really be abused by scammers, low-lifes, etc. It would also facilitate the use of automated players who might sell high level accounts to others who then could change the name of said character to "blend in" with normal players.

Those were exact worries that Koreans had on same subject, however, it's not really impacting much at all after they implemented the name change. Like I said, I think ppl worrying too much about it.

yeah but don't forget ppl on na server have completly diffrent 'l2 play style'
I didn't read the enitre post but quickly replied as I hate this idea: Name Change
I am very against and won't welcome the name change service. I can see this being exploited by botted characters - someone gets caught botting by another player but is not officially removed from the game, change the name and poof - you have a new reputation to build up.
Also, with bots like xxliajji3qkchdhfg (stated for example as you know what I am talking about), they can get the character up high enough, then in turn sell the account to make real life money via unsupported means.

Not much different. They do more of community style on PvE but they have same problem of griefers/farmers/autobots/scammers, etc.
it's not like we can't tell who bought/auto leveled just b/c they changed their name. Sudden appearance of 75 in the server is always noticed, no matter what kind of name they have. Legits always have references/previously associated players while bought accounts/autobots don't.

Now they just have to say they changed their name.
There is no good reason to do this, makes an enormous change to the game and has many bad consequences . Leave it out.

They say they chagned their name and no reference who can tell who he is? I don't think just telling "I changed my name" would work. I run a clan myself. If someone tells me they changed their name, I would ask what was the original name and who do they have to vouch for him/her.
At a glance, it may seems be a bad idea, but in reality, I doubt, it will make any difference in game play, just like it had no real impact in Korean servers. It's not like scammers really fear getting their names noticed, lol.
just like it had no real impact in Korean servers.
And the Koreans seem so adept at finding all of the exploits that make it onto our servers, eh? Different kind of player. Different mindset.
To this date, only hacks to the game servers were in NA test servers (twice now). Does that says about us? Not really.
U think, they find bugs/exploits b/c of their play style? lol, They simply get their game sooner than us. If we got L2 updates before Koreans, we would find/use them as well. (well, maybe sooner, :p) I mean, we don't have gamesharks for nothing lol.
Name changes, its a yes from me. Only reason people are saying no is because of 'scammers getting away with it'. So what? they can roll a new toon, some toons are just MADE for scamming, what about all the people who just thought of a new name they want for NON scamming purposes. If you keep saying no to everything cause it could be abused, nothing is EVER gonna get implemented. Kidna sad you only see how it will benifit the bad people apart from everyone else.
By the way, only yes to name changes since some names are Masculine/Feminine, would YOU want a Human Female called 'Butch' or something?
Korean servers are very different from NA. you can't really compare.
for one , they work together to kill dragons and things.
No one on NA could give a crap about killing a dragon lol. it's just something to pvp over.
That's b/c they have more population.
Korean Siege/PvP clans rarely get into those big community raids in Korea. They tend to end up fighting each other even during an agreed raid so they usually don't show up.
You are mistaken, if NA server is all about PvP while Koreans are all about PvE. They have more hard core PvPers there than here. It's just that we don't hear much about them.
I wish NcSoftwould arrange a World Battle Tourney. I think Korean will wipe us clean.
Beside, unless big clans in NA server can work together, we won't see a dragon being slain in NA for a long time.
First Antharas kill was only reported in one server (11th, Luna) in C5 (Koreans are Four months into C5) past week. 250 ppl went there with all of them being 76+ (majority of them 77+) With that, they battled the dragon for almost 5 hours.
Many other servers tried, but no other server has done it in Korea.

in my opinion these services only facilitate those who aquire their accounts iligitmately.
a characters name is the only way we can track who is who, how they have behaved, and then to reap the rewards of their behavior be it good or bad.
Server transfers... would allow somone to level a character on another server (that might not rise up and fight against those who shall not be named), then iligitimately transfer it to another person for whichever server they desire. Again this is a way to avoid the reputation for which your characters name may or may not be attributed.
how about a name change from a toon already exist on account like Toon 1 X name to toon 2 X name so in a matter of speaking people keep their indentity but still can change names

I was thinking that too. If I had my ultimate way, I would delete EllieBelly on my account, change Amber to female and rename it to EllieBelly. When I made Ellie years ago I never thought it would be "famous".
I think it's a somewhat bad idea, really if name change was added the Title of the char gota have needed to be the old chars name for at least one month.
So peoples get to know it, plus this way you just conna encurage more peopels buying acconts as well, and that is fairly annoying.
Name change - Nope, too exploitable.
Sex change - Interesting, but I couldn't use it because we wouldn't have name change option and LordChaos would sound weird on a female Dark Elf. But at least I can pat my own butt without a sexual harrasment suit.
Please, no name change service!! I mean it would take the whole responsibility of your character away. Gank people today, be free tomrrow... say nooo... !
i just understand why some "players" say yes to name change:
- bot up to the level you want, then change name and pretend you're legit. <- This is a shame i'm strongly AGAINST it.
Even if NCSoft can't ban every bot (they are so many), people like me, who are strongly against this and checking their party and clan mates, want to be able to keep track of unlegit players and filter them out of their gaming experience (only cheaters like playing with cheaters).
ABSOLUTE NO to name change !
The cons outweight the pro so much... i really don't understand why NCSoft make a poll for features like this, maybe they just want to know the %age of the playerbase that cheat ?
Then i'm surprised it's ONLY 35%....
quite good news...

Signed.
Too much opportunity for players who don't play the game "correctly' as it were to randomly change names when their current character becomes known.

thats a really good point zerberus!
I'm down for bouth.
Seriously I'm so sick of not even allowing the chance for a idea to even make face before it gets pked by alot of carebears 20 seconds after a comment was made about it.
Scammers woiuldn't be affected by this one bit!
Maybe could see buying acc's as a issue, but I serious wouldn't care...just an other enemy to kill... hehehe or be killed for that matter.
Sex change I'm all for it!...my reason is:
I choose male over felame as a HE cause I seriously hate the look of mejestic light on females, but when i sub adn go BD, I'd rather be a human female then male cause I don't care too much for the male dance.
then swich back to male when I'm play as HE again... that simple. some people just don't like change...elhoir is one of them.
seriously....allow it to happen if it is a problem email support.
make them remove it, but only if it is a proplem!
even tho this isn't a part of the poll....I'm so down for this.
only bartz/teon are scared of this...I'd love to see how many people pay the doe to move off of erica for lionna or kain or any one of the other servers.
I'd be happy to pay 30/40 bucks to move my Necro from erica to kain....just so long as I can move all his cash/items.

Let's try to keep this discussion to the services mentioned in the poll. Thanks!

Mystryl, why don't you have a poll after the login screen?
I believe "Dark Age of Camelot" (on another network :p ) does this.
The splash screen with all the info. Why can't there be a link there?
I would really like a name change, I understand some of the problems that may pose but I think some restriction etc can be put into place to make it worthwhile for legit people who honestly want to.
I'm highly unhappy with my character's name. I didn't spend a lot of time thinking about it when I created the toon and thus I ended up with a pretty lame name.
A possibility to change would be great. Maybe a toon's old name could be discovered by targetting him/her, or some other method. It could be integrated so that characters who changed their names who had a bad reputation could still be identified by seeing their previous name as well.

For the same reasons posted elsewhere. Bot up to 78, name change. Yep, blah would love this.
name change is ok,but not a sex change.if it s a guy pretending to be a hot female elf then he should have no escape of going back... :) yes i am so evil.

What about any1 who made the mistake of making a 'Male' Elf?

100 percent agree. Your reputation goes with your name, and if you change your name, *poof*, any *bad* association with that name is gone. All name changes will do is bring more business to powerleveling companies to level peoples toons.
Bad, Bad, Bad idea.
If you picked a bad name, tough..live with it or start over if its that big of a deal to you.
Yadda, yadda, yadda just make it so that you can view history of names through say the community board and your good.
Hypothetically, if you're strongly against name changes, would such a list change anyone's opinion of a name change service?
Remember, this is all just discussion and not a promise to implement anything, but I was curious if a list to track name changes would relieve some concerns about character responsibility.
My buffers were all females but now that the I want to play the buffers as main it's kinda hard to flirt. And it's annoying when every Tom, ****, and Harry you meet tells you sexual innuendo and all I can do is grind my teeth because I don't swing that way. A name change and sex change should go hand in hand. I mean you can't just change the sex of a female buffer to male and still have the name Daisy.

Yea, it would make it alot better and nobody can hide from their past. Might do the same thing if you add server transfer, what server they played on before and such..
Namechanges could be implemented only if people had access to records of their previous names. The info of forced GM name changes (namechange000) should be available to players as well.
My dwarf has had 2 names already(3 if you include namechange050)....GM's didnt like my first one. The records of my dwarf name history should be made available too. I see people botting it up with names like namechange084 and they probably change their names when they reach high lvl and sell the account or play the account and pretend to be a legitimate player.
Realistically of all the services players would like to see, how did this one ever see the light of day?
We are considering a variety of services, but these two in particular seemed to be the most in need of opinion gathering. We've got a pretty solid understanding of the perceptions of the other considered services.
Just an understanding of how ppl say it benifits scammers and such.
I dont particularly NEED a name change, but ive made characters before, spent ages thinking of a name, then thought of a better one later ><
People giving one word answers 'No' shoudnt even be taken into account. I say yes to it for people that would like it, it doesnt MATTER about scammers, this game is made for US, not them!

The idea of a poll is nice. The problem is not everyone can vote here. Many are not registered, some don't bother voting, and a few more have been banned from the forums. Sex change, name change, and transfers to other accounts would be nice. Implementation of the latter would make be buy a new account in a heart beat for a buffer. Also many people have accounts full of toons and I'm sure they would like to be able to move 1 or 2 of those. Perhaps a limit to the toon movement is if they're on the same Master Account.

We're not making a decision defined by the poll results. We are merely gauging reactions. We do realize that we are looking at a limited sample group, but for where we are at, that's a-ok for our purposes. There are a myriad of other factors for us to consider as well.
The idea of a name change service would profit the people that bought their character from Ebay. That in by its self is more then a reason to say it's a bad idea.
I don't care what other positives people come up with, that one negative cancels out all positives.
I choose "very interested" for both because while I know the name change thing could be abused if restrictions are not set, I am all for change in this game. I can no see no problems with a gender change option and much comedy. :D
I believe character name change and gender changing should both be implemented.
Character name change options should be allowed because it helps people recustomise their toon. The name i chose in C2 doesnt reflect my current feelings of a good name.
Gender changes should be allowed because its just another aspect of being in a limitless fantasy world.
I hope name change and gender change services are both implemented!! If you change your gender (most common option) then you also may need a name change.
If you do not implement name change because of cheaters, things do not get very different for scammers and cheaters, but you neglect the faithfulness of the players in general! If else, a public list with the name changes would be a perfect solution for the players. But I do not know if a list full of "jfkhufi", "ffshjfd", "u8r9fo" would be nice for ncsoft :p I.E.: enforce proper naming policies!!!!!!
Name change is a VERY bad thing, especially in L2 where your name takes so much responsibility. It would be like to make a new identity in real life - first scam, pk people out and then hide with new identity. Something which is always a bad thing.
Oh and please dont advertise this poll on l2blah... you can be sure that they vote for a name change, but thats just because most of the l2blah community is botting or cheating... I mean just look at their forum and you know what I mean...
As for the name change, theres a simple solution for that. Those who change their names should have an mark that indicates changed name or possibly even old name writen under the persons target window ( where the clan and alliance name are displayed ).
The regulars at a bar wonder where one of their buddies might have gone. Finally the barkeeper gets tired and says, "Let's face it guys. Harry Jones has gone to another watering hole." He then proceeds to give out a round of free drinks.
Thirty minutes later this **** blonde walks in an all eyes are on her. She then joins the group for some drinks. After awhile one of the guys asks, "So what should we call you?"
She replies, "Alex. Alex Harry Jones."
edit: Alex Harry Jones is a purely fictitious character who may or may not resemble someone you know and is purely a product of the author's imagination.
Hypothetically, if you're strongly against name changes, would such a list change anyone's opinion of a name change service?
No.
People giving one word answers 'No' shoudnt even be taken into account.
Hogwash. Sometimes a one-word answer is better than a long drawn out rant.
I say yes to it for people that would like it, it doesnt MATTER about scammers, this game is made for US, not them!
I don't give a Nickelback about the scammers. Scamming is legal and, if you're smart, not anything to worry about. However unless and until NCSoft can stop botters and account sellers I give a hearty "NO" to name changing.
Except for hairpins, gender is meaningless in this game so change it away! Every day if you wish. Who (except Ellie) cares that much. Make it a potion you can buy and use as often as you desire.
I'll make an update to my original posting. I think a name change would be okay if a gender change occured but seriously I still think this could be abused. It would be funny as someone mentioned above to see a Female Light Elf named "Butch" or a Male Orc named "Maribel" or something like that.
Bartz comunity hangs out at www.l2blah.com (http://www.l2blah.com)
Lionna community hangs allot in This official forum and also at http://www.[censored].com/forum/index.php?s=3ef09bbd79570139cf6f103aa8eb72c2&showf orum=48
However, I checked the sites and the news about this poll already spread and there are links ons thiose sites to the offical...
so no need to go make new polls on other sites mystil...
ooh I got an idea...2 birds with one stone kinda thing...
Allow name & sex change, but...you have to pay a lvl 61 warsmith (Brahm) :) 1mil adena for this service! Dorfs get the "economic benefits" and other char's get their new selves!
Seriously, have at em both...
To SirE: you see the same person everyday since lauch, scamming, griefing (afk leveling). ok. Next week, he's gone, BUT someone ELSE acting in the same way and manor and mannerisms is not going to ring any bells to you? Come on!
You stick with your "No" , but for every one of those, please instert a sensible, well reasoned and witty, but, OPPOSITE respones for *me please. Im thinking "Yes" will do nicely
Right, a scammer is a scammer is a scammer. If I were so inclined and got a new name, I would hope people wouldn't insta-trust me right off the bat. If they did they'd get scammed no matter what.
You stick with your "No" , but for every one of those, please instert a sensible, well reasoned and witty, but, OPPOSITE respones for *me please. Im thinking "Yes" will do nicely
You mean do the opposite of what you did? No thanks.
For the master of many words you seem to have missed the unobtrusive, yet important, succinct and appropriately short "yes". Easy to do when you only quote parts of sentences. Context is key.

seriously rust.
Don't take advice from a player thats been playing for 2+ years and don't have alest 1 main past 40...if you think you know or understand this game when your main is no where near A/g then you have no clue about what half the world of aden has!
Just to claim omg no name change cause the botters/ebayers woudl abuse it is stupid.
I bet if you added it alot of people would be happy...specailly with the sub/main looks.
and looks makes a big deal to alot of people.
I personally want to change my looks from subclass to main when I get my sub...I don't like the ugly girlly skirts that female humans have in mejestic light. but yet the dances look horrid on males lol.
I don't like this idea, but I wouldn't quit if it was implemented. I'm sure some would. I am just concerned you are looking at this issues when there are many problems with the game as it stands. I just hope Lineage 3 fares better.
Don't take advice from a player thats been playing for 2+ years and don't have alest 1 main past 40.
Thats funny, how is that relevant? Because i'd sure like to know. I do enjoy how you can keep on throwing that "You don't have a 40 character" in my face every chance you get thou.
the majority of the playerbase doesn't read and/or isn't active here on the official board .... make the same poll on l2blah.com, for example, and you will get probably a completly diffrent result ....
Every time one of us comes here from blah we get banned.
Still .. i believe the community of L2blah won't see this ... ;)
Pretty funny huh? Think about that statement a little more before you consider yourself whitty. Having that many high end players quit is not a "good" thing.
Name change would litterally be the last step in aiding the people who are not legitimate in this game to do whatever they want and get away with murder.
Bot toon with name ksjdhflkjagsdhf, get it to 78, change name to "normal_name" and then sell. Go team, no one can trace the person.
Your staff and company has always tried to say l2 is a game where the players make the game and what it is. If you allow names to be changed then all 78 levels we worked our butts off building a reputation that could make or break us would become moot. The biggest scammer in the world would suddenly be able to walk away with his past earnings and start over. The healer that sucked can sell their account and a new better healer can arise...
In terms of sex changes.. Why? Whats the point? There are so few reasons for there to be a real need for this. One poster above stated they now play their buffer and would like it to have been male so they dont get hit on.. Ok I cant argue with that.
But you know darn well that the majority of this added options use will yet again be used for people who bought an account and want to start clean entirely with new name new sex.
I'd love to say that cheaters scamers account sellers and buyers don't exist and then I would have no issue with any of this. But they do exist and they have existed since Ultima Online came out so long ago. In every game, in every country.
You don't want to talk about anything but the topics presented in the first post? Fine I will shut up with what I have already said. But some time in the future you may want to consider giving the senior members of this game more of a voice. We have been here since no one knew what soulshot was and just might have one or two sugestions that could actually help the player base instead of slap another layer of problem onto it.
Most people from blah who came here started out with intention of getting banned... I mean seriously... on the, "lets all post the same thread day." what did people expect?
Billy would ban people too for creating the same thread 50+ times...
for the record I post on both sites... although I really don't post on these forums anymore for reasons I'm not going to get into cause the thread isn't about that...
Anywho... no to namechange. besides the alliance namechange... they are cool.
Still .. i believe the community of L2blah won't see this ... ;)

blah blah blah
don't quote unless you understand what you quote...

that was an anwser to a suggestion to add a poll to THE OFFICAL CLIENT.

I'm not trying to change their opinion, people just keep making references to a problem that would arise if we had them and using that as their only reason to be against it. In reality there are many simple solutions to the problem but the player base doesnt even want to think about it. I just think that there would be a lot more people for Name changes if you gave a solution to the problem that everyone is 100% against. They are right it would help EULA breakers but such a list would make name changes for purely asthetic reasons and have no actual effect on gameplay. I am 100% poistive these polls would be different had you given a solution to the issue. Nonethless I like the idea, gives me hope ^^
Very strongly against the possibility of name change.
Why? Because in this game every action you take should have consequences for your character. It is your reputation that is at stake here. Your deeds shape who people think you are.
Whenever I see a famous name I consider what I know about that character. There are some I like, some I hate and some I don't care about. Why? Because of what they have done in the past.
Take away the name, you take away the history and that would be very bad.
geez ...
our beloved botters would LOVE NC for allowing name changes :P
finally they would be able to sell all of their 100% botted chars (like VVVWVVWVWVWVVWWW, lukhujsdhfujhgjg and so on).
nobody wants to buy a char named like that as long as there are other options.
this service would start a flood of "new" highlvl toons on ebay - possibilities nobody ever anticipated before.
The name I originally wanted was taken when I created my character but is now free, I'm hogging it on a lvl1 alt just in case. So I guess I am of the minority when I say I would definately like a namechange myself.
But like many have said there would be an issue with notorious griefers, scammers, botters, and so on, able to "start fresh".
It depends though. Would the namechange be something you could do at will any time you wanted or just during a short event?
If it was just the latter, I could see it benefitting the "good" players more than the "bad" ones. The griefers would quickly be re-identified and account sellers would only be able to take advantage of it for a limited amount of characters.
Overall I want a namechange myself but am understanding towards why others don't want it.
Edit: Being able to look up a list over players' previous names sounds like a great idea and a simple fix to the problems mentioned.
don't see anything wrong with the sex change part and the name, well enough has
been said on that part already so I leave it at that..
I personaly won't do them unless it was part of a potential server transfer as then
one could truly try to start anew fresh.. not going to happen though ^^
the majority of the playerbase doesn't read and/or isn't active here on the official board .... make the same poll on l2blah.com, for example, and you will get probably a completly diffrent result ....
Every time one of us comes here from blah we get banned.
Try behaving like an adult and see what happens. You might actually be surprised.
Don't take advice from a player thats been playing for 2+ years and don't have alest 1 main past 40...if you think you know or understand this game when your main is no where near A/g then you have no clue about what half the world of aden has!
NCSoft, please don't take advice from someone that recommends that people buy adena to get themselves out of a hole.
I never claimed to be a "master of words" but feel free to post for me if you think it's appropriate.
There is a lot of flaming in this thread! As a reminder to everyone, don't attack someone because you don't agree. Please give us your opinion on the poll, not your opinion on someone else's opinion.
I appreciate seeing new posters in here -- welcome to the board, and thanks for adding to the discussion. :)
Name change is still the worst idea I have ever seen in a game which is so highly dependant on your identity... I mean how can you just think about such a feature...
Even if you let all the cheaters and scammers out there who would profit 100% of this, it still should NEVER be possible to free your "char" from all your drawn blood or your doings...
I beg to all gods that this feature will never see the light :)
Regards,
Rin
P.S. I wonder why the poll suddenly seems to turn... but I am sure its because the unlegit users with their plenty of accounts will now register all on these boards just to take the poll :(
if you will be providing any kind of service in the near future, please provide them both in-game and via the website.
on that note, i vote positively for both services, but only on 2 conditions: the name change service can be done a FINITE number of times, and that these services be available under a level cap.
other than that, i see no rational reason to conclude that these are necessarily negatively exploitable nor negatively influential services.
hmm i with name change one's a time i made a dwarf called within i dont know why but i did found it properte for a BH but i start to use this BH more and more but few months latter i came up with a Awsome name for this dwarf but i cant change it now and rerolling a dwarf is a real pain
i more for a toon change name keep your toon the same name but on other toons like a change from toon 1 x name to toon 2 x name
it will means all your created names still exist only on a other toon
OK, well heres my two cents worth,
I would love a name change, but thats becasue NcSoft forced me to chance my original name Eula, because they said it was against the eula, (funny the name was not blocked). Thats an old story, but personaly i would like the oppertunity to choose my name, without being rushed into something.
I posted no to the idea of name changes for the reasons listed above; also, I feel it would be a poor idea in that it would make clans vulnerable to attacks by enemies/griefers who felt like they had been wronged at some point in the past. Recognizing that those people could still build a new char to try and get into your academy, that is still far easier to deal with than a 7x griefer sharing your clan tag...
Regarding posting name history on the community board, I dont feel this would provide adequate support, as that board is frequently unavailable. Were this to be implemented, I would suggest adding a /who command (I don't think thats available in l2, right?).
Oh, and while I have your ears (and I think big ears are cool, as long as they aren't hairy ), I picked up on the elpy thing and wanted to ask you, will l2 ever see poly ability/scrolls?
If someone wants to change their name, so be it - I think it's fair. I wouldn't do it personally. You can change most of your appearance, your clan (and tag), your clothing, weapon.. in fact, gender and name are the only things you can't change (you can even change classes to some extent!).
I do think, however, that the name changes should be visible through an NPC. Just like a births and deaths register - if you change your name, it's recorded against your old name forever - otherwise too many people can just run away from their problems. Even if the community server was linked into this so you could do a search on the old or new name and get a list of all previous aliases.
There was a big worry in Korean L2 communty over name change. However, it doesn't seems to be impacting much at all.
I think ppl worry too much. Let ppl change their name (for a price) if they wish.
Yes, but this the NA servers were talking about; most people on these servers play a lot different than Korea. Although there are scammers and other scum on the Korean servers, I think there is a higher concentration of that on these servers...renaming will just make it that much easier to be a [censored].
I am still shocked of some of the responses here... I mean I havent seen any MMORPG yet where you could change your name. Its like giving up your whole identity and start new... thats something that wont work in life and it abosolutely should not work in a game where your name keeps all your doings. In other games like WoW why not there is nothing you can loose anyway, but in a game where your reputation is everything, allowing someone to clean of this good/bad karma... no way... ! This is the only tihng why people have to think about what they do and what not, which makes L2 so different. With a name change you absolutly loose that...

I'm deeply sorry bud.
but you can bouth legally and illegally change your name in real life.
Making the chance to make L2 that much different then any other MMO is much wanted!
I love the idea, But tracking it isn't in my openion the best idea...but I'm not oppoused.
I love the idea of changing sex....As I said before people in L2 care very deeply about how their toons look!
I took male toon over female cause of the way he looks over the way females do, looks meens alot to many people. it is why you see soo many post in the suggesting forum asking for more costumization.
As a orc i like to keep things simple when asked about the name change service.
The hassle something like this would bring outweighs any postive effect, and i feel no list would change that.
Realistically of all the services players would like to see, how did this one ever see the light of day?
/ditto. id like to point out (and ive only read half of the thread so far) that bots will just add this to their to do list of things, right after they delevel. once a day, sdgibdf will turn into dfglijg or maybe dgfhig, and since a players name is the ONLY way we can petition them, and it takes a month or so to ban one bot already, i dont see this as a solution to expediating the process. also, players would NEVER see the results from petitions. when i enter an area and see a different bot with the exact same gear/level/class/party/behaviour as one that i petitioned a month ago, its not so annoying, because i assume that the original one got banned, i petition the new one and move on. if there were name changes allowed i would have to assume that the bot im looking at is really the old one with a namechange (and thus was never banned) which is significantly more annoying than the current situation. name change option makes THE PROBLEM worse.
exhibitNC001: assume Alice doesnt like her name, because she was just petitioned by Dave and doesnt want her account banned. she changes her name to Charlie. at some later point, Bob, who has done NOTHING WRONG AND HAS NOT BEEN PETITIONED, changed his sex to female and his name to Alice. lets assume that Bob is a great fan of L2, a very helpful player, maybe he draws L2-based comics in his SPARE time, or he VOLUNTEERS to dj on L2radio, or maybe he PAYS for a domain name to make a FAN site. he is happy with the change until he gets banned, without even being told why. or, Dave, assuming Alice-formerly-known-as-Bob is Alice, trains Bob and takes his dc helm+3. Dave is not going to belive Alice when Alice tells Dave he is not Alice. Charlie, meanwhile, changes her name to Eve to train more players and use third-party software before changing her name to George. Dave changes his name to Charlie, then to Harriet.
@ the idea of a list: IF the community server ever comes back up, it would still not work. in the example above, two players changed their names from Charlie to someone else, which one is the Charlie im looking for? would there be two entries for each possible Charlie? its really confusing even with timestamps. so dont do it.
@ polls, because they are broken. anyone can make as many forum accounts as they want on these boards and post 800 more times than any real player would care too, so i hope polls are just to start conversation. not too many years ago, two friends and i made New Kids On the Block the #1 song for an MTV music competition. all we did was refresh our ip and revote.
. . .not too many years ago, two friends and i made New Kids On the Block the #1 song for an MTV music competition. all we did was refresh our ip and revote.

name change is stupid
i like the fact that when a lvl 78 necro pops up named kjghjfjk and joins a major alliance we know exactly where he came from
and once again this further removes any trust you need to place in your local crafter
but you can bouth legally and illegally change your name in real life.
Making the chance to make L2 that much different then any other MMO is much wanted!
But in real life you will still know the guy and so you don't loose any of your karma/reputation just due to a name change.
In L2 the name is your whole identity... you will never be able to "remember" someone with a different name - this instantly makes a new char of you and so you can do whatever you want, then rename your char and be the nice smart guy again (no problem in WoW, but a serious problem in a social/political influenced world)...
There is so much absusing in this, that its simple ridiculous to think about this change.
Also I am serious that this feature would not make L2 stand out of any other MMOPRG... all it would do is supporting griefers, scammers, pkers, cheaters, botters... and maybe 3% who choosed a wrong name at the beginning.
But come on, everyone knew that the name is not changeable and there is a good reason WHY.
im from lionna i put for error my name (in open beta) as : azotran without capital in the first letter and i want change but gm cant do :( so i vote yes for both service we are human and can failed :P
Worried about bots changing their name? They are there to make money, this service I will almost 100% guarantee will be a service you have to pay for. Also, the GM's will have a record of name changes so that if a bot changes it's name and you report new name, they check to see if it was ever called something else before.
The only penalty, IF ANY, despite the fact you HAVE TO PAY for it should be that you get one change. You don't like your name or want to amend a spelling error or change it altogether, you have the chance and a lot of time to think of one that suits, one time is enough.
We've had a lot of feedback on server transfers already. :) We still welcome the discussion (in another thread please), but we'd like to hear what you think about these two possible offerings. Thanks!
Well On the Gender change I can see how people would like to be able and do so...I have nothing against it although I wouldn't use it. I chose my chars carefully from day one so I have no need to change.
Bur for the name change I need to agree with the biggest majority that this would be a terrible mistake in applying it. It would indeed become very difficult to track chars (be it bots or friends) and will cause more harm then it will service any real and legit player. Scammers will have a free ride indeed not to mention anything else that could be missused thx to such option.
If someone isn't happy with the name he had, too bad...Should have thought about it a tat longer before entering the world or else reroll with a name you like and get it leveld up (considering your first char alreday has gear and money you shoudl be able to do that in no time).
Honestly I don't think it such a wise step to take on the name change services.
Whos worried about bots changing names!! I'm talking about a new issues!
That we will see ebayed characters more then ever. Just buy a fully leveled toon and get his name changed to something the buyer wants. That is why i'm dead set against this!
Anything that makes it easier for the ebayer is a bad thing in my book no matter what postive thing you can think of.
Allowing name changes would allow people to buy accts from 3rd party users and make em look legit .... NO NAME CHANGES
If you made a bad name as a joke or whatever to start with ...maybe you should be more mature and think more then 3 seconds in the future next time

Ok those ppl that ebay their characters do u really think they care what they're name is....If they have the gull to buy their characters now, by being able to change ur name isn't going to open the flood gates for cheap players. These ppl are only concerned with the lvls.
LOL and to tell u the truth if they did care about they're name they could start an account pick the name and then pay for a pwr lvling service
yes they would have to wait for the lvling but its going to continue to happen no matter what.
but i don't like the name change either. if they were to offer something i would say add something like a surname. ya it would act as another title but u will still know the original person..... ;)
The issue is, if someone buys a farmer leveled char and get the name changed, nobody will know where it came from. No one can say "oh I saw that guy in a bot train in wall of argos". Of course it's suspecious in itself, when a high level toon appears out of nowhere, and no one has ever seen it before.
these choices were present when the character was first created, period. if you wanted something other than what you chose - delete and re-roll. that is all.
this has been one of the major mainstays of character control. if such changes are allowed without consequence, then what is to prevent such beings from creating greater opportunities for scamms and other misbehaviors that are currently being perpetuated???
"Customer": Can I please rename my toon from kjshfurk to Hardwarrior I just mistyped when i began..
Admin : Sure..
example 2
Customer: Can you please rename my toon from Bogodu into Rapidarrow ?
Admin : Sure ..
Some 3rd guy: Cool I just recruited a lvl 72 BD in the clan..
Next day...
The 3rd guy : %$&$%&$%& that #@%@#% just given all of our reputation points to that **** enemy clan ...
(Names were random.. No intention to point out anyone..)
I'm sure the name changes would cost a good deal of money to prevent the issues being brought up in this thread. And the issues being brought up about people and ebay, they have records of name changes, IP changes, transfers, etc... so it'll be the same as it is now. Not that big of a deal.
If it costs money (which I'm sure it will) it'll discourage people from doing a lot of the examples in this thread to begin with.
As for gender changes, I don't care
edit- Also, the reason I support the name change is because I've found out my name could be taken as offensive. It's original intention was to be funny and gross. I don't want to be banned or have my account marked for my name, so I'd welcome a name change in a heart beat.
Im toeard the name change with penalty (i think losing 1 lvl per 10 is a bit too much condsidering the grind from lvl 70-75 hurts, but I like the idea of a randowm debuff or a 4%)
reason behind me agreeing with the name change: there is a farmer with the name devildancer my name is devildreamer peope give me greif all the time calling me a farmer and pking me for my name which in turn makes my gameplay really not fun. I think that if oyu do a namechange that there should be a reason behind it beside it was a joke, or i mistyped or jsut because.
and yes i asked a gm to do a namechange and got the classic message of well look into the matter and never heard anything back from them >.<
im nutral on the gender change, yeah there are times I wish I had picked a female toon instead of a male toon but it was what i wanted to begin with so in turn on the gender change i really dont care either way.
I am also stongly against the name changing service. Even if you have to pay a fee its a bad bad bad idea.
If someone acted like an *** hole with a toon , they sould forever live with those consequences.
If someone miss-type a toon name when creating a toon, its no biggy creating a new one and deleting the other one.
Name change also opens a big wide open door for illegal account purchases. Being able to buy a toon and then change its name to suit your needs (even for a fee) is way too convinient. They wont even have to worry about their reputation.
IMO name changing, if implemented, would be NCsofts way of getting its cut in the profit when it comes to account selling (if they charged a fee of course).
Maby im over reacting.... or maby not.
Mistryl, honestly the first though that came to mind when I saw the poll about name changing was what i just mentioned. In my eyes, if this change was implemented, I would see this as NCsoft accepts and approves the illegal sales/purchances of characters.
Name changes would in no way help the average hard playing person. It would however, be the delight of everyone whos ever thought of buying a toon, or all those greifers and *** holes out there that want a quick and easy way out of the consequences of their actions.
Gender changes would be fun if it was like a mystery potion... lasted a certain amount of in game time... 5 or 10 minutes, and was relatively inexpensive...
on the more permanent end of things, I am against both... much more strongly the name change. (changing characters names pens the floodgates for -as mentioned previously- the sale of accounts and characters by other companies or indivuduals. Given the methods scammers have already attempted without name cahnges, which NCSoft condones -much to my dismay- changing names would be a surefire way to loose a healthy chunk of l2 subscribrs, and I would be the first to find another MMO.
gender changes I oppose becouse ... IMO... there is only one choise anyway per race; this I say becouse it seems to me that certain races/genders got a better deal than others in creation... to elaborate... the ratio of male to female elves/humans/dwarves/orcs seems to me... and i could just be out of my mind... very off balance... everyone playes male humans, female elves, male orcs, and female dwarves... this is just palyers mind you, the bots don't give much thought to it... (DE are different, players play male and female DE about the same I think)...
now, the reason for this is, again IMO, becouse there are more apealing features for male humans,s than female... females elves over men, ect... obviously this is a matter of personal taste, but there has to be some validity to this in that there are simply more female elves and male, and ale humans than female...
I would be much less opposed to gender change if NCSoft added new hairstyles or faces or colors or what not, but people choose the gender they are becouse it was almost more apealing to them, so there is no NEED to change... and why would you go against your first choice anyway...
if there were more options for genders, or new ones, that would be cause to change and I would support it completely... but otherwise NCSoft would be better served to invest their talents solving other problems or implimenting other features :)
Well like I've said a million times before, when some of us created our classes/races (like human mystics, orcs) they stood and held weapons a certain way. Then in C4 they changed that and some of us are not pleased at all.
Since a toons name is linked to an account and NCsoft can track acounts, wouldn't it go without saying that tracking players wouldn't be any less diffecult for NCsoft?
I could be wrong I know didly about how servers work other then I put my name and password in and play.
Also, I have a feeling that the biggest hold back for people buying accounts isn't so much the name but the cost. Sometimes I feel like I'm watching the news right before flu season when I see people talk about ebaying gold and accounts. Just think about this for a second, how many of the accounts playing do you think have the money, and if they had it would be willing to spend the hundreds for an account? Some how I suspect that the numbers really wouldn't be that much more then is doing it already.
Personally I wish I could change my toons name. I'm sick of people not knowing how to spell it or telling me it's to hard to figure out.
Blah, blah, blah, my pn still needs a guild.
:)
FariicAniumiin
well i think that the gender cange wont relly make a differnce cause its not like makes arestronger or faster then females andthepoint is to pick all you charaicteristic when you frist make the char not change it every week jst cause you want to
I am for name changes, and wouldn't mind being able to change mine (and perhaps everyone who is for name changing is dissatisfied witht heir name and sees no harm in changing the name of a virtual object, while everyone who is against it is perfectly satisfied with their current name), however I believe as several others do, that is should require something. Here I propose the name change quest, a quest so foul and fruitless, no one would ever want to willingly undertake it unless they really, really, really, really hated their current name. So without further ado:
The name change quest:
Saying that the Tower of Insolence is the essence of Dwarf's architecture, Warehouse Keeper Walderal wants to regain the vanished drawings of the tower. While searching the Tower of Insolence at his request, you discover a variety of ancient scrolls...
1. Begin the quest by talking to Warhouse Keeper Walderal. He asks you to hunt Corrupt Sages (3rd Floor), Erin Ediunces (4th Floor), Hallate's Inspectors (5th Floor), Messenger Angels (7th Floor), and Platinum Guardian Prefects (9th and 10th Floor) at the Tower Of Isolense.
2. While killing these mobs you will obtain ancient papyrus in you regular, not quest, inventory (so you can trade, setup shop, store them in warehouse, etc.). When you open the parchment by doubleclicking on it, it can open into many different items. I suggest you save a lot of the parchments before opening them as your inventory and warehouse space will quickly fill up with all of these items. Items the parchments open up into are:
Ancient Jokebook and Ancient Chain Letter- Essentially worthless, you can't turn them in for a quest reward, so just sell them to the shop; I have only gotten these from papyrus received when killing Messenger Angels
Musical Score: Theme of Battle
Musical Score: Theme of Love
Revelation of Seals 1-7 - Need complete set to turn in to Claudia Athebalt, North of Aden Castle Town for steel arrows; turn in to Magister Desmond in Aden's Magic Guild for some fireworks.
Ancient Epic 1-5 - Need complete set to turn in to Antique Dealer Patrin (in Grocery Store) in Oren Castle Town to receive 10,000 experience.
Imperial Genealogy 1-5 - Need complete set to turn in to Trader Holly in Aden Castle Town for a random chance to earn some proofs of catching a fish.
ToI Blueprint 1-13 - Need complete set to turn in to Warehouse Keeper Walderal. You need to choose the new name you want. Then you randomly receive either a single thread or the new name you chose. Messenger Angels drop all blueprints except for floors 6 and 7, which drop on fifth floor from Hallate Inspectors.
Note that as of now, Walderal's text is bugged and if you choose the option "I have found many other things besides blueprints..." nothing happens. He is supposed to tell you the names of the other NPCs to bring the other sets to. NCSoft is aware of this bug and it is in the works to be fixed, or so I'm told.
how about, in order to change your name, you need to give 500 ancient jokebooks, 300 giants doodles and 4million sweet fluids to some NPC? works for me ^^

Don't forget 1337 gemstone D, 1337 gemstone C, 1337 gemstone B, 1337 gemstone A, 1337 gemstone S, and one of each color of level 13 soul crystal. You'll also need Recipe: Rename Card (60%), which is a 1/20 drop from Valakas, and of course you need to find a dwarf with that recipe registered.

.... and of course be prepared to failed the 'name change' craft :p
Totally against the name change service. It will probably be abused, and as soon as someone changes there name, unless they have told you they have changed or in the same clan as you they will just be another character and you will never know them before. (Until they say it them of course).
Maybe you should be forced to wear your old name as a title instead of possible clan/noblesse titles in a colour reserved for name changes? For say - three months or half a year.
Hypothetically, if you're strongly against name changes, would such a list change anyone's opinion of a name change service?
Remember, this is all just discussion and not a promise to implement anything, but I was curious if a list to track name changes would relieve some concerns about character responsibility.
Yes, that would be fine. Theres no point freaking out about this negatives, since these things ar rampant anyway.. I still frequently see ebayed accounts and equipment in well known alliances, so it obviously doesn't bother people that much.
Anyway - yes to name changes, don't really care one way or the other about sex changes, put it in for those that want it.
