Basically I have one skill called Prominence. I stun easy, I interrupt easy, I burn through mana very fast, my sleep was gimped beyond use. You won't get an overhit spell (extra xp and sp when used as killing blow) till level 77. SpS cast faster than me, SH hit harder than me. Necros in B grade own me. Archers own me. Daggers own me. I can no longer solo effectively. I can solo, just not effectively. I can only get parties as charity since I can no longer crowd control and as a nuker I am done in about half a dozen mobs and have to sit most of the buff round regaining mana.
Now, if that sounds appealing to you, go for it.
The Necro has a powerful summon, a very strong nuke, and great mana management. The only real drawback to the class is that people will call you a Flavor Of The Month player for choosing a class that owns.
Sorc is a nuker with 1 basic nuke prominence. he has a nerfed cancel and sleep. The slowest mage ever. Only one vortex fire vortex.
Necro is C4-5 fotm class. Semi nuker-summoner he owns. Transfer pain on the summon powerfull nuke drain and hell lot of debuffs. He even gets a vortex dark vortex which also drains hp. He has botm so no downtime. An unbeetable class if played skillfully
If I understood well, then Necro is better. :) The only reason I would choose Sorcerer, that Cursed Bone is expensive... but I don't care really, if I own almost every class :) Thx for your fast replys!

Welcome to Lineage 2.
Necro's can also have there servitor thats summoned Erase now & a buff called unholy resistance (dark magic) that can be a [censored] to a Necro's damage being dealt. (It can go from 1000 damage to 300 damage)
Sorc is suppose to be the balanced nuker class. :)

Welcome to Lineage 2.
1) One skill sucks, its true, NC shud give Sorcs more spells.
2) So does every other Mage, and Sorc has best Mage CON to resist stun, and only mage that gets higher lvls of Conc.
3) SpS is in the same boat, all mages sleep nerfed.
4) Also true, Sorcs need a pre 77 OverHit Spell.
5) Sorc hit harder then SpS, cast faster then SH.
6) Necro/Archer/Dagger own anyone, Sorc isnt alone in that.
7) Sorc could never solo anyway, SE behind you ISNT Soloing. (If you ever did that)
8) Mage is about burst dmg in short time, melee is lower dmg over long time, thats the deal you get making any Mage class. Charity cases is proberbly true, in groups i use, we never group ANY mage anyway. Done in half a dozen mobs is just making mountains out of molehills. Shouldnt need to sit, groups that take mages should have an SE/EE first.

Not saying your wrong, not saying your right.
I agree with the second last part, any group that takes a mage into a party, should always have an EE or SE first. (Don't forget some mages like SH/Necro get BTM) :p
1 - To MalineII I don't have an overhit yet. I always thought the overhit also gave additional sp with the xp, but considering sorcs don't even get that skill till 77, I wouldn't know. (When I have been in parties with an Overhitter I didn't compare the sp difference). So, I may certainly stand corrected on that. But it an overhit skill does give additional XP for certain.
2 - Tiffy. Yes a Necro can have their servitor erased. Now the Sorc's servitor... oh right. We get a cat that is helpful till about level 40, also erasable, not nearly as useful. So, for Tiffy's sake, until someone comes along and successfully erases your servitor, you will own. Tiffy is also right about the resist unholy, something to match the resist fire that has been in game for some time now to reduce sorc nukes. =) Sorc is the "balanced nuker class" in that it equally pales in comparison to the other nukers. Please remember this topic is a question of whether the Sorc or Necro is the better class, not whether Sorcs do more damage per spell than an sps (which casts more spells per minute, thus outdamaging the nuyker over time) or cast faster than a SH (which hit harder anbd can manage their mana so as to keep nuking long after the sorc has run out of mana, also therefore outdamaging the sorc over time). Nope it was all about the comparison of Sorc to Necro. Try a little context with your jabber, Tiffy.
3 - Mortova. My Con may be good for a nuker, but I am still stunned every time the wind blows, and I don't have a corrupted man beating on you while I stand stunned. +1 for the Necro. Again the OP did not ask if the Sorc or SoS was better, the question was Sorc or Necro. I know staying on topic will make it very difficulty for you to have a reason to argue with me, so you have to slip off topic to do it... but how about respecting the OP enough to debate me on topic please? Thanks. Sorcs could solo, before the sleep nerf and still can, just more carefully, and slowly, which makes it inefficient. Then again the poor mana management made soloing a sorc always somewhat inneficient, and yes I mean solo, no buff/recharge-wench.
SOOOO at the end of the day, when you actually stay on topic, my points stand and speak for themselves with possible exception to getting additional SP on an overhit skill.
I swear there is an anti Quaythescus fanclub forming in this thread. :D
I swear there is an anti Quaythescus fanclub forming in this thread. :D
Only because your so dam frustrating at times :p
My points werent there to argue with you, they were there to tell the OP that a Sorcs downsides dont just apply to Sorcs, like sleep affects everyone, Stun/Inturrupt affects everyone, and Sorc has the most resistance to it. You list all the downsides, and none of the pluses, THATS what makes posts like that annoying.

LMAO, no one was saying anything against what you said, actually people said in most ways what you said was correct, they were just adding there two cents as well.
Yes this thread was about Necro & Sorc, you left your input as saying, basically Sorc aren't that good of a class to go with, so since you listed the cons to a sorc, I thought I would add the cons to a necro as well.
HEY! if you feel what I say is jabber, PLEASE, feel free to not make any comment to it, would be greatly appreciated from you :) Thanks!
When I see what appears to be jabber and elect to call it as I see it, I'm going to. Them's the breaks.
I pointed out the cons of the sorc in comparison to necro. You pointed out that servitor can be erased.... but it isn't a straight up comparison because a Sorc doesn't even have a servitor (an effective one, that is) past 40, and that servitor is subject to the same con as the necro. Therefore it isn't a Necro Con... it affects both classes equally while the benefits of the servitor itself weigh heavily in the Necro's favor.
You then mentioned the unholy resist buff but failed to mention the fire resist buff. I didn't mention either because they provide an equal con. You are the only one who mentioned the con for one while conveniently leaving out the con for the other.
What you fail to recognize and thus fail in your attempt to relentlessly argue with me is that my commentary (with the exception of directly replying to you, Tiffy and Maline aka the usual suspects) directly relates to the classes the OP specifically asked about in his topic.

Next?
The OP asked for both the pros & cons for both classes.
Like you listed the cons for the sorc. I tried to list the cons for the Necro.
You said it yourself, the servitor for the sorc is only useful till 40, so anyone after that probably wouldn't use it or rely on it. However the Necro uses it's servitors till 40+ at least. So before when the Necro's servitor had no threat to it, now the healers/buffers cause that threat (even if erase doesn't have a high chance to work, it's still a skill that can erase there servitor)
So a Sorc who doesn't have to worry about a servitor to be erased (you said most wont use it after 40) a Necro does, so that becomes more of a con to Necro's then Sorc.
I also didn't tell the OP which way to go, I just wanted to give him the heads up that not all classes are ultimate & unstoppable, every class even Sorc & Necro have a downside. Since you were so clear on listing the cons for the Sorc, he didn't need someone else to, & I never disagreed with what you said.
To the OP,
Go with whatever class you enjoy most. Like many said, the Sorc is the more balanced nuker class, the Necro has been considered the Overpowered nuker class in C4. Both have had similar nerfs in C5 (sleep), both classes have a weakness to other classes. In my opinion the Necro is a stronger class, but expensive, then the Sorc, if money is not a problem, go for it & have fun. :)

LOL do you even listen to yourself Tiffy?
After 40 the Sorc summon is useless, so they won't bother summoning it and therefore does not worry about the servitor being erased. You are calling this a pro?
After 40, the Necro servitor becomes such a powerful tool it makes it a target for the Erase skill. This makes the servitore a ... con?
The servitor is a powerful plus to a Necro regardless of how you want to spin it. Hey, you can also beat one to death. Guess that is a con for the necro too eh?
You also conveniently noted that their is an unholy resist. If you didn't have a desire just to argue me, why not mention the fire resist buff too?
Please Tiffy, insult me if you like, but insulting the intelligence of anyone who knows even the basics of the necro and sorc is going beyond the call and attempting to sway what may be a new player to what is clearly the severely lesser of two classes just to argue with me is low.
Unlike you, I actually play the Sorc. I have pvpd against necros and with necros on my team. I have xpd with them. I'm actually trying to be helpful to the OP.
If you seriously make a recommendation of a sorc as a toon over a necro, you are being spiteful and/or ignorant.

WHAT? I actually don't think you read what I said at all LMAO
U said that Sorc don't use there servitor after 40+, so erase skill is more of a threat ie CON to Necros lol (downside to a Necro)
I also never suggested anything about taking a Sorc over a Necro, I said play what you enjoy & I said a necro is more overpowered, but also more expensive compared to a Sorc, where did you get I said "If you seriously make a recommendation of a sorc as a toon over a necro, you are being spiteful and/or ignorant"
I didn't insult you anywhere, I really wonder what you take as an insult, usually an insult is calling someone a cruel name, but I guess to you, anything is an insult. :p
The only one as usual doing the insulting is you by calling people ignorant. lol
Sometimes myself & others wonder what happen to you, you went from being laid back to jumping down everyones throat. OH WELL
Necros are very powerful, pvp they are very very jacked. this is ituational power though. if i know im going to go into pvp, i have a summon out and ready and all that. normally when i hunt i dont. also, as a necro, leveling till 52 i s frigging expensive if you use shots. your main nuke is death spike. it takes a cursed bone (300 adena). if ur using shots, each nuke is costing you about 600 adena. 2 shotting mobs is about 1200 adena a kill, and at level 40 you arent killing mobs that net you more. at 52 you get cursed death link, which lets you make a fortune, and lets you gain incredible amounts of sp as you have a much better chance of dying.
the other downside is all of your skills are dark magic for nuking. as a result, you cant do well in catacombs overall, or rift parties. most of them resist dark magic.
that being said, i lov emy necro in pvp. theres something satisfying anchoring people in attack poses. it tends to irritate them but i thoroughly enjoy it still :) we hit hard, with summons out, we can stun, crit, transfer pain, in that regard necros are jacked. of course unholy resist is irritating. but you get gloom which helps alot too :)
LOL @ Tiffy.
The OP asked for the Sorc vs Necro. I gave him the straight up answer, no bs. You for some reason, who doesn't play either toon elected to dispute some of my claims.
Then you go on to suggest that the necro has a servitor so significantly powerful that a player with Erase may attempt the skill on it.. AND CALL IT A CON!
And I'm not taking anything as an insult, just saying it's ok if you do insult me. What I dislike is the fact that you insult the intelligence of anyone who has even the remotest clue about the canyon of difference between the sorc and necro.
I know you'll reply because you just like to argue. The points I made to the OP are solid (sp, excluded and acknowledged). You disputed them I countered further strengthening the reasoning behind my recommendation. What else is there to say?
As for the OP and for Tiffy's suggestion, I do agree with her that you should play the class you enjoy, not necessarily the class that owns. Various classes have various roles and niches in the game and some play appeal to you over others.
That said, the Sorc and SpS have found themselves in the position of no longer having their role. I don't play the Sps so I won't go so far as to speak for themm; but when someone asks me about the Sorc class, I will be straight up about it and speak from over 70 levels and 3+ chronicles of grinding one. Take that or leave it as you wish.
ok. anchor 9 = level 66. I'm 73 with magic barrier and aegis, no zerk, and not even gloomed, and I get anchored by level 66 anchor. Helll I get anchored by level 52 anchor.
it's the hugest bs ever. overpowered for olympiad as well.
LOL @ Tiffy.

I didn't post to argue with you & I don't feel the need to insult anyone, I agreed with what you said about your sorc, Healers & uffers, were giving the skill "Erase" to use it, theres a chance they will & a chance they wont, but unless you know that a hler/buffer wont erase your servitor you can't be so sure. I also never said that the Necro servitor was powerful, I just said they are still used after level 40. So before C4 when a servitor didn't have to worry aobut being erased, now it does become a chance of a con for that class. Just look at the PS/ES for example, people already started to re-roll because they feel besides the other nerfs to them, that "Erase" is that much of a threat to them, that a healer or buffer would use it on them, & leave them gimped.
As before, I never stated anything against your comments, or insulted your intelligence anywhere?
As I said, I stated my information about the cons (some people like yourself might not think it's a con) which is fine. That the Necro has some as well. Considering that much was said (from you) about the cons to a Sorc, yet nothing really mentioned about a necro, I felt the need to just point out erase & unholy resist. The reason why I didn't point out about the Sorc , was I didn't know about it, doesn't mean that anyone adding & knows that knowledge couldn't add that info on. I myself play an SH, & I know once I get death link, she will be expensive like a Necro, I don't get the servitor skills they get, or however, don't think I have to worry about the unholy resist. I do have friends & clannies that have Sorc/SPS/Necro's.
You gave him the straight up about SOrc, but I'm not sure if you mentioned anything about Necro's.
I wasn't posting to begin with, to start an argument with you, I was just posting what I've heard & believe can be a con to the Necro's. Like I said everyone class has a pro & con or they would be an obsolete class to begin with. :)
I would also like to see where I have posted something in this thread where I insulted you? Please show me, because I am not aware that I insulted you personally, or at all. I also wuldn't consider a debate or a discussion as a insult of someones intelligence, or themselves. I personally took this as a discussion & no insult anywhere intended.
Circular arguments now just to argue with me. You've said nothing new, asked nothing I haven't already answered. Luckily the Op is sure to be able to read the responses and and put 2 and 2 together. Your need to continue to argue all the points that have already been bashed against the wall is your own issue.

Yeah, XP is the point... but people actually complain over others doing overhits because they "won't have enough SP". Nevermind that the EXP is extra and free ... ;p
PS: And hey, what'd I do now?
Except being happy about seeing OLs/WLs useful in parties. :p
And guess what... they didn't have to be made stronger for this.

So thats a no, you can't find anywhere in my posts where I insulted you? Yet you accuse me of it anyways lol
Anyways good luck OP, lots of good advice in here.
EQ, if you did want to continue this then please by all means send an in game pm or pm me on here. Lets let everyone else get back onto topic, & leave the bickering alone.
Tiffy, I realize it takes you longer than most to catch on, so I'm going to type this slowly for you.
I told you in my last reply that I had already answered all of your questions. It was intended to be a cue for you to re-read my posts as there was information you had obviously missed in your first run-through.
I will be kind to you and quote myself as much of a waste of my time as this is:
And I'm not taking anything as an insult, just saying it's ok if you do insult me. What I dislike is the fact that you insult the intelligence of anyone who has even the remotest clue about the canyon of difference between the sorc and necro.
See, I never said you did insult me. I know that you are referring to the following quote: *sigh*
Please Tiffy, insult me if you like, but insulting the intelligence of anyone who knows even the basics of the necro and sorc is going beyond the call and attempting to sway what may be a new player to what is clearly the severely lesser of two classes just to argue with me is low.
I said to go ahaied and insult me, never said you did it. I would rather you do that than insult the intelligence of people who know better than what you are saying to a newcomer to the game.
So, when you mentioned the insulting, I replied. I'll requote myself again for you:
Please Tiffy, insult me if you like
Again, it was an invitation. An opportunity for you to stop trying to convince people that you have the first clue about what is obviously something you don't, all in an effort to wage an argument with me.
I never said you did insult me. Instead you are insulting the intelligence of players who know even the most elementary truths about the comparison of a Sorc to a Necro.
Now I don't have the patience to explain it AGAIN.
A High level Sorc is a good thing to have in pvp or at a siege... even at a raid assuming a recharger is available.
It's getting the xp required to be high level that is the issue, so for me and Leyanire who at least have a clan to help us, we have a bit of a leg up.... (a captive audience so to speak).
The High level sorcs already on the server have a place. Sorcs whose levels come magically in the night are also ok.
So no, we won't be the only sorcs on the server. But you will see fewer people willing to do the hard grind with the class.

lol, not really. Resist fire buffs give higher % than other resist buffs, so sorcs actually do a lot less damage in pvp, even with vortex.
trust me, sorcs suck. I haven't played my mage in like... a month.
WOOT soon EQ and I will be only sorc's left in game then ^^
Sorry I had to let that sarcastic moment escape ^^
Nah, there are the die-hards and those close to subclass who will still play them... this does not mean I would suggest anyone start one... especially if they have the opportunity to take a useful class.
A High level Sorc is a good thing to have in pvp or at a siege... even at a raid assuming a recharger is available.

I disagree...
Sorc is helpless quickly now.
Your vortex will do 600-700 against a properly buffed opponent...
With every single buff in the game you will take 7000+ at 900 range from the first or second shot a simlarly buffed/levelled archer fires.
Mage burst damage is still good... but silence lands way too often now... and worse, silenced means manaless now with priests.
Assuming your opponenet is not stupid, mages should be silenced/manadrained/killed and thus when they res they are not worth recharging. Mana is better spent on the 7k-hitting archers who get 7-8 kills out of the same recharge that you get not even ONE kill out of...
Thus you get to stand around gathering mana...
At least Sorc are slightly faster than Sps at mana regen with B2M1.
After you regain mana, likely you wil garner some kills, but the first time an archer or dagger sees you, (that isn't horrible) you are a one-hit.
(well, two if his 50% crit rate doesn't fire)
In skilled team PvP, Sps and Sorc are quickly out of mana and you are still not worth a recharge unless every single archer and dagger is dead and AFK or unless mana is overflowing (good luck with that... mana management is key... and sorc/Sps are horrible at it.)
In raids, mages are mana hogs... you are still better off with archers or daggers unless you brought too many priests.... (not usually an issue)
If the fight is longer then 2 minutes... bring an archer or dagger. Mages might as well not exist.
If the fight is less than 2 minutes... bring any damage dealer.
(The mages will deal more damage, but not by much unless the archer's string of hits do not actually crit anywhere near their 50% crit rate.)

It's getting the xp required to be high level that is the issue, so for me and Leyanire who at least have a clan to help us, we have a bit of a leg up.... (a captive audience so to speak).

I just knew you pin the point right in the heart ^^ Thanks Pam ;) Was exactly what I ment :)

Not just sorc' but ANY class who is not an arch/dagger will be...Same chances for everyoen and I've seen it happenin live PvP

That's what I wonder, too. Why does elemental protection for example give MORE fire resist (30%) than resist water (20%) or resist wind (20%)? It is simply unfair. Never understood that.
