New, and my misconceptions

Player Questions Started Last reply 11 posts
So, I'm curious about some of the classes. I started playing here after about a two year stint with EQ2. I played a dirge (support) and a Shadowknight (Tank/DPS hybrid).

I loved the feel and play style of the shadowknight, but from what I read here, it seems the dark avenger isn't quite the same.

Would anyone be willing to tell me what is maybe a good dps/tank hybrid class, preferably with a dark, evil type of feel to them.

Thanks!
Shillien Knight, a hybrid of a tank, dark attack magic user and DD.
Wow, thanks for the quick response.

Question though, only dark elves can be the shillien knights correct? I'd like to play a human, but if the dark elf is closest to what I'm looking for, then the playstyle is FAR more important.

That is one thing that seemed really different, but neat, to me about this game: Every class being race specific.
Yes a Dark Elf fighter is the only one who can go for Shillien Knight. A DA is the darkest fighter of the humans but comes not even close to the dark skills of an SK.
How is a DA as far as playstyle. Are the also a hybrid tank/dps or are they mainly tank?

Thanks again for the amazingly quick responses.
A DA is a pure tank, I dont think there can be a tank even more dedicated to tanking then a DA. A Paladin and a Temple Knight just miss the massive tanking skills a DA will always have.

Then again, there is not much more a DA can do then just that. An SK for example can solo, switch between DD and tanking set-ups, can effectively make use of higher M Attk for his skills...and so on.

In the end the SK is a much more diverse class then the DA. Lets not forget a Dark Elf hits harder and crits harder then a human to start with.
Thanks, you've been a great help.
Well, ok the DA is pure tank in party, but in solo with the dark panther, we can do lot of dmg and solo preaty well, probably better than alot of melee class since we are meat shield :)
SK also has very low con, making it even harder to tank raid bosses and hard hitting mobs in groups on the high end. So if you are used to tanking, explore the paladins or dark avengers. If you want to mix it up, go with SK.
Awesome, thanks guys. I'm also interested in any info you may have on gladiators and tyrants as well. Both seem like damage dealers as well, the the tyrant being almost shamanistic in the origin of his powers. So far, the dark avenger seems to be where I'm leaning. I just dig the way humans look in this game, and I love tanking, but doing so with evil flair.
Gladiators only start to shine when they lvl up there sonic skills, at first they are not that impressive, but seeing a gladiator at 61+ spamming away his sonics is pretty nice :)

Tyrant has gotten a nerf in C5, and although good DD's they are not that good as they used to be.
