Destroyer setup

Hopefully I finish my subclass quest in the next week or two so I'm beginning to drool in anticipation of playing a Destroyer.

I will focus on primarily PvE until at least level 58, so I plan to build tattoos, armor, and weapons for PvE.

I will have my SE available for buffs and healing, out-of-party. I will probably have VR4 by then.

I plan to pole primarily in the catacombs on 4X HP mobs with groups of 4 to 8 mobs per pull (similar to how I ran my dwarves).

For tattoos I was thinking of +4 STR, +4 DEX, -8 CON. I might add +4 WIT to speed up seeding. Any comments?[Remember I'm going for a PvE build].

For weapon I will purchase the best OE orcish poleaxe I can afford (probably around +6 or so) with Crit Stun SA. I will also probably get a Berserker Blade with Focus SA as a backup weapon.

For armor I will use FPA set (probably nothing OE). I am considering trying out PL set too. Any comments from anyone on whether the Pdef loss for PL can be overcome with VR4 (think 4 to 8 green mobs with 4X HP)?

Once I get to level 52 the only change I plan to make is to switch to BW Heavy armor and maybe exchange the orcish poleaxe for a lance with equal or better Patk, sticking with the Crit Stun SA.

As far as skill use goes I will run Rage and Guts as often as I can. What is the most effective way to use Frenzy? I also plan to use Viscious Stance passive on the initial pull based on some experiments I ran with an Orc Raider.
Im se but most of my lvling i did with polearm dorfs and orcs and so far i can say i would only give orcs +5str-5con, the dex bonus will suck as it do for dwarves, as poler youll need all h you can get , if not stun = dead.

for the weapons etup i would go with wide blow instead of crit stun.

1 less mob hitting you in 1 train is not much(orcs crit not so often and even if you do theres only % that it will land)

i think wide blow is more welcome as sa.

youll hit all mobs even at bad pulls-> and that means more hp from vr and less time killing all mobs.

my clan WS that i usually powelvl out of party uses that setup and hes really happy about it.

Any comments from anyone on whether the Pdef loss for PL can be overcome with VR4 (think 4 to 8 green mobs with 4X HP)?

Until lvl 46 that should work well

What is the most effective way to use Frenzy?

Frenzing is an art. Normally I either pull extra mobs with my 2h sword equiped to lower me down or unequip all my armor

when im near 30% requip my armor then hear is the button order

/equip dagger (frenzy and rage regen biased on atk speed)
/use rage (right above 30% lvl)
/use frenzy
/use battle roar
/use heal pot
/equip primary weap
/pwn mobs

you have to figure out what ur limit is, between the time u start that sequence and by the time u start whacking mobs ur fairly defenseless

assuming ur going to be fairly weel equiped just remeber vicous stance is an absolute p atk boost on a crit. its not a %. the better equip u have the worse it is.
Frenzy is the bomb man. Its like the ue for stinky elves. I pole a lot for my academy toons, and the raider is by fr the most effective poler I have played to date sub 40.

Like tokara said, let a few mobs beat on you while you do rage, pop frenzy and wipe em, letting vr heal you. Then find more mobs super fast and have at it.
basically as long as u have Vr and have the abilty to hit mobs (not stuned, rooted, can't get a target) a destroyer in frenzy is invicible.

I passed 6100 p atk in frenzy yesterday
I used Wide Blow SA with my dwarves and liked it. I thought that Destroyers and Warlords were going to get a toggle skill in C5 for wideblow (seem to recall reading that Korea got this but could be wrong); but I read through the Chronicle 5 notes and they definitely didn't get it in NA C5. So I will probably take your advice and use Wide Blow SA. Too bad, I had hoped for the Crit Stun SA.
I play a 60X destroyer that I have leveld with a pole. And I think of myself as a master trainer and I have some suggestions. 1st you must think differently as a destroyer like, DO NOT get that sword. Stop thinking like a mage and start thinking like your a brute, drooling neanderthal. BLUNT. You need a Blunt to use your stun skill, which you will use especially if you ever solo not in necros or cats. Get a sword at lvl 60 when you get crush of doom skill, thats when its worth it. The stun skill is really good on a pole because you already have wide blow as a skill
and the differenece isnt that huge with wideblow but stunning, mind you, on occasion 5 of the 10 mobs you've pulled in a train is helpful. Do not use any tattoos that would affect your speed. Orcs are already slow, and I mean slow. I dont have any tatts and I do fine. DOnt make yourself painfully slow to increase strenght. Also consider we do a huge amount of damage to things WHEN we hit them. accuracy is also a problem. And when you see missed target for the 12th time in a row youll start thinkin "boy those tatts were sure worth it". We miss target already without the tatts.
Hope some of this helps. Remember you can usually pvp any melee player up to 8 times above you and win, if you play well
I use Wide Blow on Destroyer with no tatts and Full plate gear. At lvl 49 i can pull 8 mobs around lvl45 with ease. With critical stun it was slightly easier when some of those mobs got stunned, but i was always left with mobs that i hadnt even hit cos they were at a wierd angle, so my healer often drew agro. That's not happened since i went Wide Blow. Also, i agree with not lowering CON, as even mobs that are light blue will really hurt if you get stunned. Even level 1 VR will make up for not having +STR tatts, with 8 mobs it will hold your HP steady.
I can't answer a lot of the questions because I play my Destoyer with a totally different set up as I solo a lot but prefer to use a two handed sword.

All I can say is if you get the opportunity to use Frenzy, combine it with Rage and you will be amazing. My average damage using this combination increases anything up to 4k. Things that were 3-4 hits can drop to 1-2. I also duel box so when I reach this point I hit the keys for those two skills, quickly change to my Proph and do 2 quick heals (he's trained on me at all times) and then attack, everything in site usually gets killed and I don't risk losing too much health and dying also.
The Destroyer is a very versitile class, and has many play styles. Some like the blunts, 2hand swords or poles. I prefer 2hand swords(with focus SA), they out damage anything other than a mage. I haven't met a tank yet who can hold aggro over me in a party. Blunts just can't compare to the damage of a 2hand sword. I carry my sword, pole and a club for stun. What's more frustrating than a huge orc running at you with a twig in his hand, stunning you and then beating your face in with crush of doom etc. Also Rage/Frenzy/Guts/Battle Roar are all time based skills. They last for a set time and regen in a set time. Attack speed has no effect on them. Once you do frenzy/roar, with a 2hand sword and VR you'll be unstoppable for 90seconds. I only had wide blow on my poles for SA's so I can't really say much about crit stun, but it only lands 13% of the time kind of a waste imo.

Hopefully I finish my subclass quest in the next week or two so I'm beginning to drool in anticipation of playing a Destroyer.

Good Job, i also play a lvl 65 Destroyer, love him to Death. My wife also plays a 65 SE, she has played her since C1, ive also played my Destroyer since C1 and have done nothing but Polearm, not just with a Destroyer, but my alt WS / BH combo that is also 62 each.

I will focus on primarily PvE until at least level 58, so I plan to build tattoos, armor, and weapons for PvE.

Good idea focusing on PvP until 58, but id more or less go until you hit A grade to start focusing on PvP, stick with PvE until 62 or so.

Ill get into armor setups and dyes further down.

I will have my SE available for buffs and healing, out-of-party. I will probably have VR4 by then.

VR4 is amazing, it really makes a Destroyer shine, especially when using a Polearm.

Ok, ill get into gear here.

You have two choices for Heavy Armor imho, Zubei or Doom, i personally dont like BW heavy because i dont like to reduce my Dex, Dex effects multiple things, not just one like STR does.

In your 40's, stick with Full Plate set, you cant go wrong here, set your dyes up so they will benefit you later on in your 50's when you hit B grade, ie:

Zubei Set + Dex +4 Tattoo = +294 HP, +5.64% to P.Def plus all the effects of the Dex tatt which is mainly, faster run speed, faster attack speed, more evasion and more accuracy, something you badly need as a Polearm weidler is accuracy. Also keep in mind, you take no stat hit here, except from the tattoo of course.

or

Doom set + Dex +4 Tattoo = +320 HP, Con +3 Str -3, same effects as above for Dex tattoo, but your soaking up the negative to Con at the price of STR, which in a Orc Destroyers case, wont matter when you factor in Rage + Frenzy which you can easily alternate between.

Why only one Tattoo?

Orc Destroyers get enough skills to be able to putout alot of damage without having to touch many stats, you take away too much Con, you will have alot less HP and get stunned a hell of alot easier, especially when you take a -8 hit to Con.

If you think you can handle the damage and keep it healed with VR4 plus SE healing, which you most likely will be able too, then take the -8 hit to Con and go +4STR and +4DEX tatts, your damage output will be high enough for VR4 to probally keep you healed, but leaves not much room for error in the event somethings goes wrong ie: bad postioning of train, someone else trains you, you start to get PK'ed in the middle of fighting a train.

For weapon I will purchase the best OE orcish poleaxe I can afford (probably around +6 or so) with Crit Stun SA. I will also probably get a Berserker Blade with Focus SA as a backup weapon.

Ok, here comes the heated topic, your on the right track with Polearm, seeing there is only two your going to need to worry about which is Orchish Polexe and Lance at 52.

This is my experience with 65 levels of poling under my belt, Crit Stun far outweighs any other SA if you know how to bunch the trains your pulling correctly, thats all there is too it.

If you can succesfully 95% of the time get all 8 mobs from each catacomb room into the 120 degree arc from just the normal angle of the pole attack, you wont regret going Crit Stun. If you cant do this, then i dont suggest getting Crit Stun, but you will be healing alot more.

Keep in mind, Polearms get the same crit bonus of a sword, so what ever your crit is with a sword, without Focus SA, is going to be the same as a Polearm with Focus buff. Only difference is atk speed and accuracy take a dip, but no biggie when your hitting 8 mobs at once.

One more thing, keep in mind you can succesfully hit 16 mobs, 2 cat rooms, and you can succesfully get them all bunched nicely using catacomb corners.

The trick is practice makes perfect when poling, Crit Stun is almost a must, anything else is for lazy people.

Refer to what i said above about armor set ups, but ill mention one thing here, if you are planning to take the -8 hit to CON, dont go with Plate Leather, big no no.

As for BW heavy, well i pointed out about that also.

Most effective way to use Frenzy is just use it normaly like you will be using Guts and Rage.

Use Guts + Rage in conjunction with each other, and Frenzy on its own. Alternate between the two of them.

Best way to use these abilities is to increase your killing time, not see how many mobs you can take down at once, because if i remeber correctly, Destroyer can hit a max of 16 mobs and Warlords 18 or 20, cant remember exactally.

So pulling any more then 16 is a waste as the rest arent going to be taking damage until you reduce the numbers, the more you pull, the more downtime you take waiting for repops.

Stick to pulling 2 rooms, 8 mobs at a time, kill those move to the other room, the faster you kill them the faster they start there respawn time, with Frenzy, you will have to wait for a respawn unless you have a 3rd room you can pull from quickly to take full benefit of Frenzy.

EDIT - Quick word on Vicious Stance, use it when your stationary, with your train postioned where you want it, no real need to use it on the intial pull.

Rest is upto you, postioning is the key to succesfully poling, if you dont, its hard work and gets very frustrating.
I have a raider and monk both close to 40 and am really torn between them unsure which to take tyrant seems good but redoing totems is a pain, detroyer is slow to move about.
i mostly solo pvecwith very little pvp atm

Rage/Frenzy/Guts/Battle Roar are all time based skills. They last for a set time and regen in a set time. Attack speed has no effect on them.

Big mistake here.
I'm a warlord so I don't know about other skills but Battle Roar (but I guess it works same way) : Battle Roar will cooldown faster with more atk speed. Same for Warcry for human warriors. So better cast them after an atk speed boost (such as Thril Fight for warlords) or with Haste/zerk/FuryDance bufs.

On my warlord I think the reuse time of Warcry is 3 min, and the buf lasts for 1 min. With Thril fight and Haste2 on, the buf still lasts for 1 min of course, but the reuse time decreases to nearly 2 min instead of 3. This way with Battle roar you can then get a good heal every 7 min instead of 10, for example.

OK. With this in mind, should I set up a macro that switches to a fast weapon (like a dagger), then triggers the skill, then switches back to my main weapon? I could get my attack speed up significantly doing this. For a skill like Rage it would be very easy to do this since I can do it before the trouble starts. I'm going to try this tonight, if it works, I'll plan to post an update.
some people swear on macros I however have bad luck with them so I do it all manually.

in addition the best dagger is a cursed dagger w/ rsk haste so frenzy has a smaller downtime

(I have gotten frenzy all the way down to 2 min 50 secs regen time and since frenzy is up for 1 min 30 secs it means Im frenzied half the time.

Sold! I'll be the proud owner of a cursed dagger with risk haste tonight. At the moment I am addicted to Rage (poling in the cats with 12-16 mob pulls) so anything I can do to decrease the cool down is worth it.

I haven't quite gotten the knack for frenzy but plan to work on that soon. Timing the 30% is tricky. I'm beginning to think that I'll need a CON build to take full advantage of Frenzy so will probably get DPA and maybe even +4 CON, -4 STR tats. If I can keep Frenzy up 1:30 out of 2:50 it will be worth it to go CON build since it takes about 60 seconds for 2 cat rooms to respawn anyway so in between pulls it sounds like Frenzy would regen. If I go CON build I think I could get my base HP (with buffs) > 6200 so Frenzy turns on at above 2000 HP which would be fairly easy to manage. The Patk boost from Rage and Frenzy would be so much better than the -4 STR hit. With this build I suspect I could run through 3 rooms (so get 16 or more mobs per pull) and by the time I get set up I'd be close to 30% HP, hit Frenzy and Rage, and go at 'em.

Any comments on this build approach?

EDIT: I just looked at the library and it says the Dark Elven Dagger has Rsk. Haste now too (I guess since MM got removed). Can anyone verify this? And, can either be purchased directly at the lux shop in Giran or will I need to do a weapon exchange with Mammon?
couple notes

A) cursed dagger can be bought at lux store

B) that regen rate is baised on full buffs, dance of fury/CoV/song of renewal

I wouldn't gimp ur str too much relying on frenzy but its ur choice I used to pull 1/2 rooms in ascetics hit frenzy and just use a 2h sword to beat them all down relying on vr4
Thanks for the clarification. I have haste2 and zerk1 or zerk2 all of the time, but will not have the dances or chants. I'll have to test Frenzy with my buffs before I make all the changes on tattoos and armor, but I think I'll get the dagger anyway. From the pictures I like the dark elven dagger so I may go to Mammon tonight and check them both out before I put on the SA.

Best way to judge it is when your HP starts to flash red / bright red, thats the point where you hit 30% HP, also use Battle Roar straight after using Frenzy as it will pop you back up right away and give you enough time to start swinging, hopefully you will have VR and the rest is golden.

If you do it this way, it gives you Rage, Zealot + Guts to play with at the same time, awesome combo for mean damage. All 3 stack and is awesome to bring yourself back from almost certain death.
