While the forum has been gaining new members steadly. It has also been losing it's most out spoken members at the same time.
And this concerns me... We are slowly losing our board elders. There are just a few of us left and no one is stepping up. :(
If NC keeps up their new "Open Door" policy as they have been late with its customers, I expect both higher quantity and quality of posters to come here. It will give them a reason to come in and chime in on the game if they feel they are being listened to and communicated with.
I have been on these forums forever, almost as old as the devil himself! (haha 1 hour and 7 minutes younger then the devil, old ****!) To be honest quality better then quantity in my opinion.

Then
Examples?
Then
Here's one!
Rust is pointing out that he is listening...thus making the statement true even in a thread like this. Come on...it's not rocket science (though it apparently took a rocket scientist to point it out).
Bah I say. There are still alot of us about. Trouble is, finding posts to respond to is sometimes not easy. I try not to just bump my post count by replying with nothing. Perhaps even the BoardDevil has come to the same conclusion since his post count is likely to overrun back to zero soon...
Anyways, there is always churn in a game and on the boards. You also have school which just restarted last month, so it is now time for Mid-Term grades, and we know how Lineage 2 affects Mid-Terms ....
Some are still here but yes I do miss some memorable persons.
For example: St Thomas and his famous sermons that were a delight to read.
Kiriana (or something like that) for being always happy and leveling wolves.
SirElrohir because this Elrohir is an obvious fake.
Ahhhh , oh no the sky is falling! The world is under attack by aliens, the universe is in great peril and and doomed to be space dust in the near futire. Before it is too late RUNN!!!!

as i did read your post and it fellt like a waste of my time...
I can see great promise in you to become a troll :p

Well, if all the big trolls are leaving, somebody has to take thieir place. Maybe i'll become famous even.
But really, it was only intended as a joke, whether or not it was a waste of time is the least of my concerns.
Edited to Add:
I wasn't completely off topic as a true Troll would probably have been. I guess my point is this thread feels like a halfway doomsday topic, and at that I have to say that L2 will roll on with or without some notorious posters. This community has gone through many changes up to now, and it is nothing to be sad about. Change is a crucial element of life and the universe and even Lineage2.
Entropy is a wonderful thing once you come to terms with it.
Out of the people that were already trolls when I came here, I miss Kiranya the most - she rocked. I'm not sure what happened to her, either...
I suppose I'd also miss Llothlian, but then, I obviously don't have to. :D
Other than that, it's no surprise that people would leave.
There are a few things to take into account. One is that the game is 2 years + old. People get tired of it and they move on. Especially if the game is not easy to fit into their lifestyle. This is a tough game with a tough economy. It attracted a lot of people who were enamored of the art design but who really didn't want to stay (or couldn't) for the rest.
Also, if you really look at some of the posts, there is a lot of repition. "What is the best A grade for...", "what is the best setp for...", "what is the best server...", "What class should I choose", "How come NC isn't doing anything about...", well, you get the idea.
So after a while it's just tiring to keep repeating the same answers over and over.
Add to that that there are drasticaly different types of players who play this game and some of them need to use different forums in order to discuss the game and all its "complexities" in a fashion that is more "suitable" for their style.
Given that the community isn't so large to start with (new server aside, I still feel it's a small community) you are bound to get a smaller number of people posting and then they are more noticeable when they leave.
Someday we all will leave for one reason or another. Interestingly enough, we might also meet in other games. Sort of like life. Just make sure that if there are people who you want to keep in touch with that you actually "keep in touch" with them.
Well, for some folks, real life is happening. That's a good thing in most cases.
I've been in this game 2+ years now. I try to stay active by writing quest guides for Stratics, answering the occassional question, reading various posts, etc. But I've not had a lot of L2 playing time, at least not my usual.
I'm getting married in 3 weeks, building a new house, working on several projects at work....basically real life has the nerve to interrupt my L2! :(
Some folks need to take a break, especially those that can't find anything good to say to others. When you allow a game to make you a bootyhole on a public forum, it's time to walk away. :)
(seriously, congratulations, thats awesome news, I hope you have a flawless wedding and a long happy life together :) )
Thanks, LC. You'll be happy to know it's Rehven, who also writes guides for you, oh evil one. You're gaining TWO guide writers in one house. Can we get health insurance now?
SirE, I'll see what I can do about pictures. If cake gets shoved in my face, I'm getting a divorce! :D
Naw, we don't want the Wedding pictures, it is the honeymoon pictures we want. And not the ones where you just stay in the room. After all, we all live vicareously thru everyone here, so why should you get a free pass.
Enjoy, and remember, in 25 years, well, you will need the picture book to remember when you were both smarter and younger... LOL
I'm no forum troll but.... I'm here. o.O At least I can say something witty every other week or so, or have a decent agrument with Sith every now and again.
I do, in fact, consider a lot of people here friends. Humans are social creatures, and we tend to seek attention and companionship in everything, especially when we cannot have sensory contact with people. Why do you think things like teamspeak/ventrilo are so popular when playing games?
Same principal. When there is lack of sensory contact, people will seek it out, in games OR forums. A forum is basically a long winded instant messeger. Many many people use webcams and microphones on those.
My whole point is that replying to someone on a forum is NOTHING like speaking on Vent.

Because of a forum's or instant messenger's or online game's chat's lack of sensory contact, I.E. visual, aural contact, people will use Vent or a webcam to allow them to experience that contact. Much of our communication is through our body language, and not our speach, after all.

I'm confused then. I thought you said you were pals with people on the forums. Are you really saying you're pals with people you met on the forums and now talk to in vent, etc?

No, I did NOT say that I was pals with people on the forums, and that I'd talk to them on Vent or whatever. I did say however, that I consider many people as friends. No Vent involved.

 I guess I interchange "pals" and "friends". I don't see the different but won't argue semantics.

I don't think it's so much "friends" as such but more people who you interact with on a regular basis on the boards, friendly banter, arguments, being rude to them, being kind to them, praise etc etc. There are always going to be certain people in any situation in life that you will respond to. When those people are no longer there (even on something as simple as forums) you will miss them just because that is human nature.

That it is. But still, as humans, we seek out other human's contact in everything. Hence why people like Splatter, one of the most friendly people on this board, is struck emotionally enough to actually create a topic concerning the loss of people and ideals on this forum.
8/30/04 the day after the original forums got wiped. I'm amazed after reading through this whole thread how many people that have that registration date and are still here and how many more are not that should have had it. I hate nostalgia
I hope you aren't planning a huge, elaborate wedding. Seriously, every person I know that's done that only remembers what went wrong; no matter how insignificant (if there is such a thing in a big wedding).
I remember my wife to be telling everyone for weeks that she would not repeat the word "obey" in the vows.
Of course under the hot spotlight she recited the vows word for word. I remember her looking over at me as her lips formed the word with an expression of "What the heck did I just do?"
That and the Bacardi 151 are about what I recall about my wedding.
Don't worry, gang. We'll not embarass our L2 family.
It's a simple, carebear ceremony. After we do the vow thing, we'll go back to clan hall (aka reception) and eat too much. Some fool will try to KS our buffet station, and we'll have to PK him.
I have her on messenger and normally she's online just about all the time, but i haven't seen you online in weeks. And her last post was just about a month ago.

Hehe this gives me an excellent idea to get my g/f off my back about getting married.
Honey, I'll propose if you promise to write your own vowes. They should consist of one word only...obey.
i stopped checking the forum because its the same repetitive whine and "discussion." plus, theres ally forums, clan forum, and the occasional [removed] for a weekly lol.
what happen to the wolf girl Kirnyaya? I'm really enjoy to follow her adventure with her duo wolf companions..mana... maybe L2girl knows?
Maybe some ******** PK the wolf T_T
btw, about losing member, bunch of Bartz get banned because of the /signed campain a few months ago.
All I know is that she had a lot happening in real life she needed to focus on and needed to take a break from L2. Her wolves were fine though. :) I loved reading their adventures too.
well, the GAME is loosing long time members cause so much is being added to the game that made it the Hardcore game it was so long ago.
so much junk added like location of Zariche owner on the map, added mana potions (remember al the noobs who asked for them way back since C1) .... fishing .... man so much has made the game far too easy. i would be a far happier camper if the game (read: grind, cost, etc) was the way it was back in C2 days.
i should hope that at least in T1:interlude we will see the game recess into a deep, hard, grind again. hopefully with next grade items costing hundreds of manifold times the amount of previous grade.
dont get me wrong, lots of people find the game hard, find the armor set costs even at early levels far too hard to cope with; i just think that by comparison to previous installments of the game, we have it WAY too easy now.
I don't know how fishing made the game too easy...
The problem is that the game unfortunately, thanks to the whole open PvP deal, didn't primarily attract people who would like it, but people who would like the PvP - so naturally, NCSoft is sorta half adjusting to it by doing all those things that make the game more 'carebear'.

I never could take the term "carebear" seriously. "Hardcore" is also a nonsense word to me anymore. >.>
NCSoft has lessened the grind because everyone, the "hardcore" and "carebear" alike called for it. Why should Lineage 2 be designed for the smallest population who are notorious for driving off new players? That's just poor business sense.
What's so "hardcore" about leaving the game because your character no longer has an inherent obscene advantage?
