Summoner Trains?

Player Questions Started Last reply 9 posts
I remember a post here a while ago (and NO, I hate how the search function work on these boards and NO I won't use it to save the life), but anywho, in that post, someone said that Summoners make out pretty good Trainers.

I fail to see how that is. Even though I don't have a true summoner only a Necro, I still don't have a clue how I can gather mobs and use them to train parties as I can't see through walls, etc.

Anyone want to elaborate on that if it's not a trade secret?
From my own party-experience with summoners (especially Warlock), their kitten runs way faster then any mob out there and well-buffed they can take a good hit.

As a Kai the Cat can effectively dodge while making a train, and holding aggro when the train comes back you can aoe on it, or use the train for something else ;).

Of course Kai dies, but those crystals are returned pretty fast.
It takes skill, practice and often repeated unsummoning while gathering the train.

It is also no longer possible in C5.

Why is that? Have seen it happen already in C5.
cant unsummon dureing agro which is what made summoner training really good
think of it like fake death but without any chance of failing
these days you have to be pretty leet to drop a train on someone useing a summon
A summoner trained us pretty bad in LoA not so long ago. We were doing aoe so we had no choice but to keep fighting, get the aggro, and try killing it. Not so great when there's a dwarf spamming hammercrush/stun on you.

I see, thanks for the explanation.
It's not "no longer possible" in c5.. but it IS much more difficult.

Basically summoners were great trainers up to c4 (even necro). Natural summoners were better off solo due to better self buffs than a non summoner, but have a buffer then it didn't matter.
Prior to C4, you would target a mob (preferably aggro, but not always needed) tell your summoner to attack it, then either let it hit once, or get close (depending on aggro), then target the next mob/group and repeat until you had a nice train going.. then target the player of your choice and tell the summon to go say hi. Once you did this.. bam.. you have a full train following your little summon to meet n greet the person/party of your choice. If the mobs were aggro and they killed the summon, they went after the party. If the mobs were not aggro, you had to make sure to dump it on them while they were fighting (for social aggro), this was always preferred anyways.. the more mobs the merrier.
C4 made a few changes to this. First and foremost, mobs would now aggro after the summoner after the summon died, provided they were in range. Second they added a move command (exact same result as selecting attack except the summon would not hit anything). And most important, they provided unsummon, which caused the same result as your sumon dying in c3.
This meant a summoner had to be careful to unsummon before death and/or be out of the mobs transfer aggro range or else run like hell.

In c5 you can no longer unsummon in combat, so training is VERY tricky to do, and dangerous. Best way.. have a dagger with SM help you. They can help you train as well 9with fd 2x trains, with no fd can use switch to try and make sure mobs aggro the target), and once the train is unloaded, they sm and watch the carnage while you are out of aggro range.. then they can pick up any drops and you can split them. Obviously you would need ot trust this person to share otherwise you just wasted some crystals for their benefit.
I see.....

Thanks to all that responded.
