New to Lineage II

Evening all,
I'm a new player here and I have a few questions.

-First, I'd like to know whether this game is "newby friendly", i.e. if the basics are easy to understand or if you need getting a mmo doctorate first ;) ;

-Then I wonder what the atmosphere, the feel of the server is like (is a newby frowned at? is there a social life going on out of clan system?)

-And finally, is it worth the time I'm going to waste here :P

Thanks for your answers, hoping to meet you all soon IG.
Welcome to L2 and the forums.

The game has gotten very newbie friendly however the players are not always so. You can be killed by people any time you leave town, for any reason (or none at all). Never give any gear to someone since you cannot force them to give it back, ever.

Once you hit level 6 on your first toon, you begin to receive "newbie benefits" on that toon (and only that toon). This means increasing free hour-long buffs that begin at level 8, among other things.

Perhaps some nice Franzians will help you out in game. Good luck!
Hi and welcome to Franz!

If you have any questions you can pm me ingame on one of my many alts. hehe.

Thanks for your answers, I think I'm going to dig my way through classes/races first (with a slight preference for plate classes as the armors looks soooo good :P), and try to find my way through this world.
I'll stick with my initial server choice (franz) hoping to see the community bloom in friendship and harmony (slight doubt about it though, hence the gentle irony :P).
First of all, wellcome to the server :)

Second, I'm afraid Elrohir is saying the truth. Right now, I haven't had the problems I had at Erica two years ago, but this game is full of people without brain, so expect PKers and the like. I've nearly been killed/grieffed because some people thought I was a bot (for Einhasad's sake, I was shouting and talking, I CAN'T be a bot >.<). BUT if you need any kind of help, you can count me in. Send a pm to:

Imizael
Balmung
Cyllan

and I'll do what I can. If not, you can always leave something on these forums, I visit them on a dialy basis.

Now I must leave. I just came from a Blind Guardian concert and I'm as tired as an old dog.
Finally there!
I set my choice on being a human warrior, named Talor!
I'm exploring the human village zone now and I must admit that I do immensely enjoy it!
The game is splendid, the feel is great!

I've met people with strange names (HHFG, XWb and suchlikes), but they haven't been a bother.

Hope to meet you all soon, be it in a dungeon hall or at a tavern table :)!

Thanks again folks!
I believe I detect a small note of sarcasm in that post.

:)
Weeelll...
P'rhaps, but nothing that can lower my enthusiasm about what I keep on discovering around the village :)
I've been seeing tons of brand new players, i think it's awesome, welcome to L2 :) feel free to come here with any and all questions! and don't quit just cuz the grind is endless lol

First congradulations on joining a fantastic world, and wonderfully rendered video game.

Question 1: I think it's insanely beginner friendly now, but I base that in part of previous Chronicles, Prelude, and OB...which makes me a little Bias.

You get high level buffs from the Newbie Guide or Newbie Helper in each starter town and some of the beginning areas.

You also get two weapons for free. They are middle of the road weapons for each available grade change, but they are more than enough to level to C grade (lvl 40+) without ever needing to invest in anything else. Especially for a tank class.

The buffs are a huge advantage, and you also get several quests now that provide you with large chunks of soul shot. These are invaluable for leveling quickly and easily so take the time to find them out.

Armor drops and jewelry drops are a lot more common now, and there are single use potions that drop from the mobs now that give you healing and mana recharges, so you should be able to work your way to 20ish without really needing to buy anything.

After that it gets tougher. You will need to play the market some and be aware of the changing material and item prices, and try to use that knowledge to your advantage. The official site has a lot more information than it used to and you can reference most of the recipes for crafting and such (C5 stuff isn't updated yet) right here in the Library. Use it a lot, and keep a calculator on hand to add up figures quick to determine if crafting something or buying it outright is a better choice for you.

At 40 you will want to buy things from the Luxury Shop...they only take crystals. So be sure to have some D grade stuff made and ready to crystallize (crystal tables are listed with the crafting recipes...for more info on crystallization read about dwarves).

Question 2: Newbies are the life blood of a new server. A lot of us have moved from other servers to relive the "good ol days" but we need you! Low server population makes the great parts of this game (castle sieges, world class Raid Bosses, Clan Wars, etc.) a lot less fun than very large server populations....seeing 350 people storming the siege field is much more exciting than seeing 50 people!

Question 3: L2 is not for the faint of heart. You'll be griefed, PK'd, killed by mobs, and generally set upon from all sides all the time. The key is to not care. It's a marathon not a race. There will be days when you get killed so many times you're actually farther behind than when you started that day. If you got to play some and learned some stuff about PvP or the world around you then count it a good day and don't worry! There will come a time when you decide to over-enchant your weapon and it blows up...and the sick feeling in the pit of your stomach will make you want to cry. Don't lose hope...just don't do it until you can afford to buy another one!

You'll also meet a ton of good folk, witness some of the best landscapes and characters the industry has to offer, and will have an opportunity to coordinate with other people to tackle some of the most complex and difficult MMORPG situations available.

Whether it's worth your time is entirely up to you...but welcome to Franz, nonetheless :D :D
Well, thank you TS4DKIEL for your encouraging and, above all, insightfull answer (can you say that?).

So far, I haven't been able to play for an extended time, but I hit lvl 16 rather fast and indeed the newbies buffs help a lot!

I also met people (real ones despite what is said here and there, there's a lot of players going around talking island) and it was great fun adventuring in the elven ruins (hi Samu!).

I'm planning to have my own clan or join one, though joining one seems rather difficult at this time (I'll have to meet more people and raise my level a bit :)).

So thanks again to all the players who took the time to answer my silly questions and have fun all!
Don't worry about meeting people and joining clans... as soon as you get out of the newbie villages (at lvl 16 you should be ready), and into bigger cities like Gludio and Dion, you will see lots of people and recruiting into an active clan should not be a problem.
Hop! I created a clan with my friend Samu, wish good luck to the Colymar clan! :)
