I am pretty new to L2 and had a few questions about how PvP works here. I started a human mystik a few days ago and have been having alot of fun grinding and doing quests. When I hit level 16 I thought it was a good time to leave the neewbie area and head to Gludin. Was doing great hunting Lizardmen and bears untill another player killed me. I went back out to hunt again and the same player killed me again. So now I'm wondering can anyone attack anyone at any time for no reason? I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything to provoke him. Thanks for any info you can give to help me with this.
the PvP system in Lineage 2 is completely open. Outside a safe zone such as a town, anyone can attack anyone for any or indeed no reason at all. If you want to attack back, hold down ctrl while clicking them to force the attack. You'll find this happens a lot, especially on Sieghardt. Welcome to L2, by the way.
If you attack any one that is white you will go purpel, if you attack some one thats purpel you will be purpel to.
Now if you kill some one that is purpel you will gain one pvp to your pvp score. I have 13 on my Prophet so far not great but not so bad for a prophet i think.
If you kill some one that is white you will turn red and earn 1pk. Its safe to have 4 or less pk i think maby 5. You will also gain Karma thats why you are red, this can be removed if you kill beast and earn xp/sp or by death. If you gain more then 4 or 5pks there is a big chanse that you will lose alot of things you have in your inventory even the equiped stuff. This rule is only if you are still red and have karma, if you can work the karma off then you are safe till you go red again.
Guess I was just a little shocked that anyone can attack anyone(not really the norm in todays MMO's) Still having alot of fun and have met a few nice people here. Thank you all for the info:)

PVP is the Bread and Butter of L2, without we would be just another MMO. Though I am suprised someone would kill a low level that is grinding, And here I thought Noob killers had all but vanished. I recommond finding a clan with an acedemy. Having a clan behind you not only makes Pkers think twice but also you'll have a lot more people to help those boring grinding sessions to get to the better aspects of PVP such as castle seiges, and clan wars. GL, Keep leveling, and pray you don't meet me on the field of battle;-)
I have been playing Sieghardt now for about 3 weeks and I am new to the game. I made a Dark Elf and I was looking to make an assassin as that is my playstyle. Anyway I have been playing at misc times in the morning and evening (EST) and it is basically a ghost town from what I have seen. One person has helped me along the way but that is about it. I am level 12 and was about to cancel my account due to lack of players and clan support. Anyone have any suggestions?

You are new to L2, L2 isn't new. The majority of players have put in months or years on this server and have long since left the starter areas. There are 10 servers available to new players to the game, ao... finding players at level 12 will not be as easy as finding them at say, 30, , 50, 60+. In L2, life tends to start at Dion.
Grind your toon to at least level 20 (should be quickly, easily done) then take a trip to Dion. Might encourage you a bit.
