Best casters for pvp

Player Questions Started Last reply 40 posts
I have been looking at making a caster, and so far have made my Warcryer. Im not happy about cast times, and the huge drain on mana my spells take. Looking at all the other casters i dont know where to start. I hear sorcerer is crap, why? not worth playing? necro? warlock? how about a DE, how do they compaire with SH and PS? Am i right in counting out elives as casters? I want high damage, and pretty quick casting speeds. i also dont like the idea of losing my cast every time a mob hits me.

please give me the ins and outs in a nutshell pls :)

There are so many posts about this issue, but since i am at work and kinda bored i am gonna help you out.

First of all it depends what you gonna focus on.Are you a PvP player or a PvE player?

If you are going to PvP a lot you should choose either a Necro or a Spellsinger.
Necro is prolly the best PvP caster in this game.A) Angor B)Silence C) Transfer Pain(You can sustain much more damage).. Plus the fact that as a human his c.speed and m.attck are balanced.Considering PvE he is a rather expensive character to play , because he needs cursed bones. However he has body to mind so MP capacity + regeneration is adequate.
Spellsingers have the lowest damage(comparing to other nukers) ,but the best casting speed. With a PvP setup (Acumen weapon + Robe with cast speed) you can prolly interupt almost every other nuker. In PvE you will need to rest every 5 minutes and your MP to heal.
Sorceror(i have one :P) is more PvE character than PvP. Being a human his stats(c.speed and m.attack) are pretty balanced. He also gets Concetration buff so you won't get interupted that much when fighting mobs.
Spellhowler is an XP machine. With body to mind and high damage output he is probably the best one for PvE.In PvP he lacks c.speed however in mass PvP he can do a pretty good job,if noone targets you :) ..

You mentioned Warlock.I wouldn't call him a caster.He is a summoner.I can't talk about summoners I haven't ever played one of them.

I hope I helped you.
Necro or SH. Both got some love by way of the sleep nerf. Now silence destroys other nukers. Personally, I have a Spell Howler and a Spellsinger, but I like my spellhowler a lot more. This is simply because:
1) Spellsinger MAJORLY sucks for MP efficiency, which makes them slow and tedious to train.
2) SH has amazing damage per shot, allowing them to move on to tougher mobs earlier, for better exp than the SpS.

Necro has awesome curses and slightly faster casting speed, but is expensive to train, and doesn't do as much damage.

Any nuker is a fine choice, but my vote as of c5 is for SH or Necro.
Does the unicorn boxer help much with sps mp efficiency?

lol... not that much. It's a help but not huge.
How bout solo areas with the mana herb drops and the unicorn? lol that would make them be able to go for quite some time in pve correct? I guess with those herbs solo pve wont be bad at all for any mystic class though. I have never played a nuker. But im thinking about making one.

The problem with SpS is that the same thing applies to levels and recharges as with EE or SE. If the boxer is too far below you, you get a severely reduced recharge. SpS doesn't get any boxer upgrades, so the stupid thing stays below lvl 40.

The mana herbs are wonderful things. At level 70, 1 mana herb gives you about 2 nukes worth of mp.

SpS/Sorc is almost required to duo with a recharger. (2 minutes up, 6 minutes or so down.) SH/necro can go out and solo. (<3 B2M)
gotcha thanks!
The mana herbs are nice but most of us stay on walk to help with clear mind and general regen, and it's a huge PITA to get to the herbs before they vanish. The best bet is to duo with some kind of recharger and have THEM get the herbs.
Yeah, specially bc the herbs give them about the mana to cast one more recharge (around 120 MP at lvl 68), and that one recharge gives about 200 MP to a nuker.. :)
If you are looking to PvP, out of the nukers (Sorc, SH, SpS and Necro) I would suggest the Necro. I am lumping in Necro with Nukers because he is a hybrid nuker/summoner with string nukes and good mana management.

As for how the summoners compare in PvP with the Necro, I'd suggest talking with MalineII or another summoner who has first hand experience with them.

Good luck!
^^

I agree with the above said statements ;)

Pam, acurate and helpful as always mate :)
A summoner's PvP performance depends grossly on the player, not on the class. I'm not a good PvP summoner (I've spent most my PvP hanging back and curing since I get too panicked attacking outside of controlled fights :p ) myself, so merr.

I'd recommend talking to Amaeolus (sp?) on Devianne if you want to hear about summoners in PvP, he's always impressed me.
Since the cancel, sleep, sleep cloud, aoe, and aura flare nerfs ( LOL ) SHs got higher up in the pvp tier.

Especially since the only nerfs affecting them was sleep/ aoe... and this barely touched them... all the while Silence got a boost.

So yeah... basically it's Necromancer vs SH.

Necro gets:

Summons, Transfer Pain, and Curses ( specifically gloom and para ) over SHs

SHs get elemental nukes ( Hurricane ), aoe nuke ( Tempest ), overhit nuke ( Shadow Flare, highest damaging basic nuke in the game... usually adding +20-30% exp ), and clear mind ( Walking regen rate for mp is the same as sitting. AKA, no running. )

I'd say Necro for pvp and SH for pve... but you never know when necros will get the nerf hammer. SHs have always been pretty stable in terms of strengths and class wide buffs/ nerfs per chronicle. Before all of the mage nerfs... SHs was the absolute last choice outside of pvp.. but now... they are more than contenders... while they still own pve.
Oh, I forgot to mention earlier, as far as the SpellHowler is concerned Wind Vortex + Hurricane is the highest damage per second nuke combo in the game.

Brings the pain 75+

I can't wait. :)

No, no it is not. Search Function on these forums is the most retarted thing I have ever used or seen on ANY forum boards.
just go archer.
Well even if you dont use search, the OP can still browse the Player Questions forum back a couple of pages and find the answer.

Stronger than gloom + dark vortex? ( aka -[30%?] M def + Surrender to Darkness )

As far as I can tell... the surrender effects of Wind Vortex don't stack with surrender to wind... unless someone says otherwise. ( I don't have access to a lvl 76 SS )

I have a challenege for you. Go try and use that combo on a StormScreamer. The time it takes you to cast gloom (which causes no damage) Will give him free hits. SUPPOSING you don't get interrupted (since gloom has a slightly longer casting time than the nukes) You're already at a disadvantage, because every hit from a SS at that level is major damage.

Ask anyone, Soultaker can't stack up to SS for damage. The biggest reason Soultaker is a good nuker is that he can pawn off damage on a servitor, allowing him to take a bit more damage.

The curses don't really help much in 1 v 1 from what I've seen. They have a longer casting time than a nuke, so they get interrupted a lot, and they don't cause damage, so they put you behind in HP.
That would make gloom the only "slow" curse - all others I know/have seen (hex, windshackle, powerbreak) are faster to cast than a main nuke. oO

Of course, they do have shorter range- surrendering at vortex range hurts.
I believe gloom is a bit slower, actually. None of the curses you named are specialized. Power break and hex are melee curses, and all casters get some levels of wind shackle, I believe. Look at curses like Anchor. It's too slow to use when you're targeted, unless the attacker is garbage, and you just want the annoyance gone. :p
I don't know what the range on it is, but that's a good point. If you have to run in to 600 to cast it, you'll be WAY behind on damage.

Point is, SS does more damage. Plain and simple.

Fun facts

-Gloom casts instantly.
-My Dark Vortex casts faster than a SSs Wind Vortex ( top Cast speed set, +5 wit, Acumen weapon, Acumen 3, Zerk 2, lvl 4 Malaria, and if BD present... Dance of myst/ conc too ). That's 1400 speed with bd buffs...11xx without. SSs can't top that~
- The basic cast speed of Death Spike is faster than Hurricane... and when I nuke, Gloom+Surrender boosts my nuke more than Surrender to Wind + the racial bonuses you get on Int.
-Transfer Pain

Unless something has changed in the casting times of Vortex and gloom since C4 ( I haven't logged into main server since Feb.... I came back for C5 Franz ) ST > SS in every way other then damage per nuke.
The casting speed difference between same level/same gear/same buffs SSs and STs is very small. The difference in damage per nuke is rather large.

What's the range on Gloom, btw? I wasn't sure. If it's 600, you'll kill yourself getting that close, instant cast or not.

ST is better off using his slight speed advantage to toss out silence before the SS can, IMO. Silence pwns all mages.
Also, we've left the original topic.

The real point here, regardless, is that SH and Necro are the two most solid choices for PvP nukers right now. I think we can pretty much agree on that.

I'm not quite sure that that was off topic. It really gets into the "nitty gritty" of "why" the casters chosen are the best.

Quite frankly, I'm learning quite a bit.

No it isn't. The damage per nuke is exactly the same. Literally. The only diffrence is the cast speed and m atk of the classes... and ST's dual surrender + cast speed + Transfer Pain > SS's Int + cast speed.

The only thing that would change this is if wind vortex's surrender to wind aspect of the debuff stacks with surrender to wind... in which case yes, SS would be the top dog.

Also... to the OP... if you do decide to go SH... just know that their cast speed is a huge issue.... and that you shouldn't let it discourage you in the earlier levels.

Btw, my new main on Franz is a SH :D
necro is best.
Until it gets nerfed.... and I'll wait as long as I have to. It will get nerfed. It has to.
From what Ive heard, surrenders do stack with vortex's.
they do.

C5 was the uber nerf of the necro chronicle
im at least 5% worse at pve and every now and again para wears off before i can even kill 3 ppl
i do enjoy the 90% land rate though :P
Im enjoying the huge amount of mobs resistant to dark attacks, having an SwS with Song of Invocation, and my EE with Unholy Resistance ^^

Necros can still own people, just that their norm super speed Nuke doesnt hit me for much anymore.
yea well, MOS has all weak to dark mobs... high level necros can level quite well there in a full party.
Not to mention, in raw power, necros have one of the bet AOE spells in the game. Corpse Burst FTW, kill 1 group mob, CB the others in a shot ^^

Anyone ever notice how corpse burst has same power as death spike ^^
best caster for pvp? EE hands down :) 1300 cast speed heals means if you dont get 1 shot, you live.

Duh. That was one of the boosts. They increased the strength by 4x.. to that of a regular nuke. So half hp mobs ( 1 shots ) now die in a single burst.
