I'm looking for which servers tend to have the largest player base/community at prime times in the EST. Is there a way to tell this?
Does anyone know what servers are labeled what (light, normal, heavy) during those time periods?

Honestly, I'm not sure about my entire server, but my alliance is primarily USEast, from what I can tell. The majority of them are on from 7pm until about 11pm.
Again, I can't speak for the other servers, nor can I speak for my entire server, but I can hook you up with a lot of players in your time zone on Hindemith, myself included.

If you do go to Hindemith make sure you introduce yourself on the forums. If I happen to be on I might try to find you and give you some stuff to help out.
Also, please remember, the game has been out for quite some time so the new player areas are a bit light. Dion is the largest 20+ area. The large city is of course the hub of trading and that is Giran.
You might accidentally stumble on a quest where there is a scroll or some such thing that will whisk you to Giran without any apparent way to get back.

Still trouble deciding this. Upon further reading I see to many post in the various server sections saying how dead their server is. Or just how bad in general it is (Erica for example I've seen). When I loging other then Bartz, Sieg, Teon, and Franz, everything is always "light" with Teon and Franz only ones seeming to go "heavy" but they are Euro servers. Bartz and Sieg are "normal" but today Bartz has been "light". I've logged in various times throughout the last week and it's been this way. I figured by the weekend things would be more populated but was hit with the 'light' reading this Friday when I figured thins would be more populated.
What really is the deal here? Are these status listing a proper judge of how the server really is?
The forums don't really seem to be jumping with post on the various server threads. I figure this is either because people are playing or maybe these forums aren't THE most active for the game or things just aren't that populated.
Just wasting time at the moment trying to figure out what server is going to be good . Really would like to get past this stage. I'm figuring I'm just going to have to put names in a hat and pull one out at random and force myself to stick with that one at this rate.

First off, Bartz is the most populated NA server. Teon and Franz take care of all of Europe. So naturally they are Heavier.
NC just did a mass banning. The servers always experience odd fluxuations in population when this happens.
As far as the forums, many players don't post on these forums as they are heavily moderated. They sometimes post on www.l2blah.com (http://www.l2blah.com) as well as others.
There are PLENTY of people in this game. But it's a large game world and they have levelled up and are elsewhere. Some servers are brutal, pvp all the time, others seem to have "gentler" populations.
What are you looking for? Roleplay? Lionna. PvP? Bartz, Sieghart, Kain.
A more rounded mix? Hindemith. I've heard scary things about Erica but I'm not sure how to describe them. Let's just say they are brutal too.
Essentially, if you are undecided then just pick a server and go with it. Stay the course, level up and join a clan's academy.

Just because they are 'Euro' servers doesnt mean you cant play on them. I live in Florida and I am a Clan Leader on Franz. Then again, I have the small luxury of working for myself, so I can set my own hours.:) Franz is truly heavy mostly because it is a new server and alot of people re-rolled there to have the fun of a fresh new start. Dont let the server being heavy put you off of joining in. My suggestion to you is just make a toon on each, spend some time exploring and visiting with the people there. On most of the older servers the newbie starting areas will appear deserted but once you get to the larger towns --15+--then you will find lots of people, many willing to chat and help out newbies.

Well finally decided upon Bartz. Mainly beause i had been messing around on it the most in the past week. So I just settled on the Human Fighter I had made originally.
Just didn't want to waste anymore time and go throught the early levels so soon if I can help it is all since I had already made developments there. Maybe later I'll try out another server.
Guess i'll introduce myself on the server forum now. The name on there is Sinann (Human Fighter).

I also play e.s.t. and mostly in evenings. I've found the lowest ping and good player base and a slightly less insane economy on Devianne.
I of course love Lionna as my home base--lot's of folks playing there in e.s.t. though p.s.t. seems to dominate (and ping is slightly higher).
If you're looking for an alternative, check out forums for Lionna. Devianne forum, as such, is dead--i 'think' that's cause most of those folks are playing rather than posting. It's a great community and it pings low in the east and it's got a lot of advantages imo.
