Using a bow in melee range? Race question

Player Questions Started Last reply 20 posts
In most mmorpgs I've played using a bow was only used for pulling basicly, never really as a main form of damage. Is this the same in Lineage 2 or is it possible to use a bow as a main source of damage all the time?

Even when a creature reaches melee range(while getting hit)?

Or would I have to run away after a shot or two (if characters can outrun creatures)?

I know buying arrows might become a money sink but are they generally expensive? Will the damage done (if it can be used as a main weapon) drop enemies in such a way that you won't be burning through stacks of arrows extremely fast?

One more question. Which race would be best, for a new player, to attempt this playstyle when facting in attack speed and ability to take damage or avoid it?

Thanks.
Since the beginning of this game archers have been one of the strongest classes around.

You can shoot as well as any other time whie in melee range, and when you critical you can take down mobs extremely fast. (Bows have the best crit rate in the game along with daggers). With the correct buffs you can pretty much 1-shot most players and mobs with a critical hit.

At low levels people shoot and run (called kiting), but once they're high enough they generally don't bother because things are dead by the time it gets to them.

I can't tell you about the cost of running them, never played much with a bow.

As for which is the best archer, it's all up for debate. Hawkeyes (humans) are the best damage dealers. Silver Rangers (light elves) are the fastest, and crit the most. Phantom Rangers (dark elves) crit the least but the hardest, have some good debuffs, and the least HP with a fast run speed. Other archers could give you more details.
Below level 40 most Archers will use either a dagger and bow, or just dagger are standard, after 40 most will use bows only.

Normal tactics for an archer are to either 2-3hit a mob (and take any hits if it reaches you), or if it requires more hits you are usually able to kite them (run in the opposite direction to put some space between you and the mob).

Arrows are inexpensive, but using SoulShots will become your biggest money sink (after weapon and armour of course).

Your best bet is probably trying a Light Elf if your interested in becoming an Archer, as they have the highest run speed and evasion. Human archers biggest ability to take damage, but are the slowest out of the 3 races.

ps. Other people will have different opinions of course, but just choose which every race you like the look of, as all Archers are good.
When you fire a bow at an opponent in melee range with you. THere is a chance his blow will knock your shot offline and you will miss him. However this doesnt happen enough to matter

But when people get close to you, they can hurt you and some hit very hard. To avoid that, you can kite your opponent. Shoot, run, shoot, run, shoot etc.
Thanks everyone.

Another question, would an archer mainly e relying upon arrows or the specials?

So far I'm noticing I don't use any arrows up when I do the bow specials but the wait for mana is annoying. Do you end up getting enough where you can fire another specail after one is done? Or do you end up using arrows?

Also can you make your own arrows or are you mainly dealing with store bought ones?
If you use your Specials then you're out of Mana. Specials are mostly reserved for PvP.

well basicly bow from 1-52 sucks!!

use a dagger from 1-52 then swich from dagger to bow of pural.
top B bow. and standard bow for all archers till A/g. alot still use one up to 76...

I'd advise using a +7 or better BoP with CS(cheep shot...lowers mp consumtion) if you don't have a SE to recharge you then you will need to stay with that, till you can make some friends.

If your new to L2, and I take it you are, and you only have 1 acc, I suggest you get a second one and make a prophet (PP) to help make your lvling alot faster.

reason most of us use a dagger from lvl 1-52 is for 4 reasons:
1. SS consumtion: D and C bows use too much SS per-pull.
2. MP consumtion: D has no SA, C has a SA, but the only good SA that a emi has is CS, which is decent but you can't stay on your feet for very long. (mp wise)
3. Masteries: The dagger masteries are still good all of the way up to 52, once you hit that then your bow masteries kick in and the dagger gets left behind.
4. cost too much money and has no up time alot of down time, and you can't carry enough SS/arrows to keep you lvling.

Best archer is all ways a matter of openion, but there is reasons why some of them are better then the other one.

SR: high dex = good acc, fastest atk speed, good evation, very good crt rate. gets a slow skill, self buffs, and a self heals.

CON's: is they have the lowest dmg of the archers. and decent bad hardly that great of stats to fool with.

PR: highest dmg of the archers, fair eva, fair acc. gets hex (lowers P df), gets a drain and a slow skill, self buffs.

CON's: worst stats to full with, lowest con...gets stuned alot more, lowest HP/CP, decent run, lowest atk speed. uses magic skills but some skills are worthless.

HE: good dmg out put, close but not as good as PR, decent crt rate, fast atk...not as fast as SR, gets dash, and UE. best stats to mess with, highest con..highest CP/HP of the archers. has atk speed boost, crt rate, and crt dmg passives.

CON's: low acc (misses alot...gets 2 skills that help with it (HE and acc toggle)), not the fastest archer, has little to no self buffs, low eva...at 76+ it gets to be close to SR if you ++ dex. don't get a slow skill till 77.

HE can carry the most items(new skill helps with this), with pain of saggitarius has the lest down time(need to run spirit of sag. with it), deals very good dmg; while in snipe has the best range(1200), and crt rate (+52 more to crt rate @ 74), slightly better acc.

HE: generally is considered to be the best, cause they have the best stats to play with. and lest down falls. but you may need to add a ring of core for acc, gets tiring with all the times I've missed a mob and took a few too many hits!

Oooooh wait.

Gotcha.
lol yea a random noob 52 he can just go get a ring of core...

you know hawkeyes have a self buff for accuracy?

Probably he never learned the skill cause it lowers P Def OMGBBQ
Like you need p.def for pve lol

with the right archer setup nothing will touch you in pve.

first of all.

core ring is A/g.. second this game is easy to make money if you play the market, and/or run a healer acc.(best money maker with zero cost once you get decent gear)

I was saying that getting a core ring would help.

I have HE, I use HE...I honestly don't like using HE cause it does lower P df.

As it stands HE misses alot with HE on or off so w/e...don't talk to me about a class I know more about then you venasa.

geting a +7 BoP is easy if you make one your self, but then again your too **** stupid to do that!!

Besides I was jumping a bit in my topic... when I said a +7 I was refuring to a A/g or 61+ set up... tho a carnage would be easier to get. and has better P atk, but doesn't have CS...which is way I said a +7 BoP.

Why do you keep bring up what I said about buying adena?

Is it cause I'm the only one with the balls to admit that 80% of L2 players buy adena, or have bough adena atlest once?

Go to blah and read some of the forums there, you see just how many people run a bot train, or lvl their main in one.

GG get this holier then every one else attatude out of your system, cause I'm sure if I went to leonna and asked around enough I could find some dirt about you.... don't be scared!

any how...I know how to play a HE, clearly you all got nothing better to do then hurrass me.

and NO PL is not better set at higher lvls, you can't always make sure you don't get hit. it is good for 40-61, but honestly it don't compair to mejestic set.
Lets not just assume here that getting a second account is an option or even desired. I have no desire to pay more money to pla game I've already bought once. Also I'm a completely new players with no ingame friends to speak off or higher level characters to pass anything down from. Should have said so from the beginning.

Actually no you shouldn't have, people should try to think of the "worst", meaning as in no help, just starting up.

I don't know how Nolerahl plays his HE, but not using the HE buff and saying that you miss with or without it sounds more like using off-grade bows to me (avatar anyone?). The fact that he indeed took the point that HE lowers P Def says enough to me. But w/e he always knows it better...

I leveld up a HE with a bow all the time, and right now I see that as a mistake, a dagger is way better till like 40. But seriously if you still use a dagger till 52 and then have to start learning

1)How to kite
2)How to survive
3)How to use your camera view
4)How to target while running

Then you are in deep trouble. 40 is just fine to start using a bow. 52 is way too late. And unless you are in the big alliances, who pvp all the time in dungeons and their impression of PvE is the passing mob that got killed by a nuker's aoe...well then you need the Epic Boss jewelry.

But if you want to have fun with your char with an occasional PvP effect (talking about lower then lvl 70 here), then you can really go with +3 Bows, non Majestic-Plated Leather gear.

OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOESSSS

NOT DIRT ON ME

Never once said or had the "holier then everyone else" attitude.

Really you make my day with every post you make.

lol you really think I'd use a drac or any bow below the grade I can use it on live?

my avatar is a SS pic of my sag. on the last PTS just prier to the wipe. I chose it cause I like the class and I love how he looks in the hat.

a good way to learn how to kite and be some what cost effentient is to try it at 1-20.

D and C grade aren't that effentient. when you tally in how much it cost for SS per each bow pull. then cost for arrows, also when you buy soe's and HP pots, as well as alicrit pots.

that tallys up fast, bows are very expenvice, daggers are not.

all you need with a dagger is the dagger, and SS, then you can get by easier.

sure maybe you don't learn how to kite at 20-52...but at that time it's not really needed. it's needed athigher lvls, but when you kill fast enough kiting isn't a problem.

as for geting the right set up, the cost for a C grade Pl on kain is 5m for the top and bottom, and about 10m for the boots....that is if you can find someone selling the boots. so 15m.

but getting a theca set is about 6m, and a +3 DS with focus about 11m give or take. how ever a +3 emi with CS is about 15/16m. but a emi uses 10 SS per shot, at 40-55 you can't carry enough SS to keep you out lvling past 1 and 1/2 buff rounds with out having to restock.(at 58 you get qiver of holding)

Neo I understand what your saying about having two acc's..not every one is willing to do it.

I was making the suggestion that you get one so it's far easier to lvl after you hit 55+, when you get to your later lvls (specailly as a archer) it's much harder to find a group.

and you'd want to solo mostly if you'd would like to hit higher lvls faster.

It's not hard to kill core it's only a lvl 50 RB. just geting the people organized to do it is hard. the problem is that it's bonus isn't the best, it's a mildly good bonus that IMO is worth having.

just facts folks. so relax. stop bashing me cause I know how HE plays.

geting a +7 BoP is easy if you make one your self, but then again your too **** stupid to do that!!

I was about to ask the same thing :D :D

Sure it is, if you follow the following steps =

1) Go zerg some big alliance lowbie member
2) When he/she is down, you ask if you could be in their clan, because you showed your pvp skills (ahum, some alliances actually do this)
3) They have BoP's laying all over the place
4) What difference does it make if you need to crash 7 BoP's for 1 +7? Hey its the 1337-ness
5) You go out and forget you are holding a 200M item.
6a) You go red and some lowbie kills you back and gets your BoP WOOT
6b) You brag on the forums that +7 BoP's are easy to make
6c) You are happy with your +7 BoP, after crashing multiples before and you just made lvl 72 or something

I'd fit in option 6c I believe.

And yes I would presume that people who have a Draco/Focus are often not S grade themselves, cause the thing shoots so hard, the accuracy penalty has little to no impact.

I know her secret.

Its this.
