The title is quite explicit but let me tell you why.
You roll a scavenger and hit 20. You then want to make your class change quest.
(you could start at 19 which would partially solve the prob but it would be stupid. Spider Mobs are hard.)
Then you find Toma 3 times which is a real pain in the mouse...
Then you have to go find Raut in Gludin.
You go to gatekeeper and she ask you 33k... to gludio.
You then need to run a hell of a time - dwarves speed : 125 tyty. 155 with newbie ww. but even then.
Or use another 7300k.
Those 40k you don't have them and if yo barely have them.. You'll be level 20 with 2k adena and mid none grade gear...
It's utterly stupid.
The increase in teleport costs is hitting hard the new players and the rerollers.
Gludio-gludin used to be 2400a or so. It's now 7300.
Have that fixed asap please.
I met a few newcomers who were really desperate and needed to rely on begging ! No way for them to amass that much money without getting depressed.
You go to gatekeeper and she ask you 33k... to gludio.
It's hasslesome, but the token quest still exists, meaning if you have some foresight, your trip to the mainland will be free - and that mainland is Gludin.
You have the choice of finishing your quest in Schuttgardt or Gludio. Toma gives you the option of his close friend or his far away friend. Though this makes me worry about all the other WH Keepers...if THEY are Toma's friends, we really need to be careful in our dealing with them!
Yeah well... it wasn't like that when I made my first BH. Orc and Dorf Lands was considered the entire ISLAND of elmore and it was seperate from aden... needing it's own map... making it impossible to go to gludin/giran from dorf village by foot.

that's true. But you would go to the mainland by boat and then buy a map in the store. ;)
I hate to say this, but when I started we ran everywhere because the porting costs were too much for many people early in the game.
We also ran everywhere, uphill, both ways. :)
I was thinking the same thing, lol. I remember running EVERYWHERE when I was a noob. I didn't actively use ports until like lvl 50+. I ran everywhere like back in the days of J.C. :D
Also you can do the teleport token quest over and over and then sell em for like 15-20k each for those lazy people. That how i got d grade on my dwarf alt.

I didn't start using ports to about 39 when I started the 2nd profession quests.
I hate to say it but now I just port all the time. Nothing of excitement in the countryside. At least for me.
I know this has been said by others but I just want to reiterate.
When most of us started playing in OB, Prelude, C1 even C2, we ran EVERYWHERE. I could not even count the amount of times I've run from Gludin to Gludio, Gludio to Dion, Dion to Giran, Giran to Oren, HV to Aden, etc. It was unheard of to port from Gludio to Dion or Dion to Giran. Why would you do such a stupid thing? It takes you what, like 2 minutes (at the most) to run to the point where you can SOE to the next town?
That was our attitude on it. Once we all hit about 50 the teleport money became chump change and we started porting places, but even up to my early 60s, I would run the shorter distances rather than teleporting, just to save a bit of cash.
Really... complaining that you have to do a bit of running for a class change quest... >.<
I use to run the wolf collar quest on a LE all the time to make money. It's not worth it to run now though and get ganked along the way by a zillion wars.
I have myslef ran the hatch quest a good 35 times withto couting mathild. So I don't have a prob with running.
You're all replying to Sovrath's 'I run' post.
But it's way off topic.
Dwarves who have to port to the 'continent' just CAN'T RUN. Look at you map ******it.
They HAVE TO port.
And lose their hard earned money and thus have gear more desperately bad than normally.
THat's the problem when all the tests we have are made on PTSs with 2000 times the drops.
The increase in teleport costs is hitting hard the new players and the rerollers.
First of all, if your rerolling how would you not have the money? Second of all, it has been said many times, do the quest! Lastly, the teleports are harsh in C5, but there not going to be changing anytime soon so your going to have to deal with it.

Ha, so every people rerolling does it on the same server ?
Or you know something on char transfers that we don't ?
And even wit every quest on, you'll lose between half and a fifth of your total adena.
I don't think it's productive to say nothing will change.
In a few matters, NC's stubbornness and lack of vision didn't prevent them from doing necessary changes.
The help to new players is one of these matters. So I believe they might not let it be ruined by unthought teleport changes.
The sad and stupid thing is that you get the travel coins from the newbie guide together with the set of ss/sps you get from him. So if you already got those, which is likely if you are lvl 3 or over, you will not get the coins.
But, as I can't stop saying: there is a quest for free ports, and has been there since forever. USE IT.
Could you please tell me which quest, because some low level alt of mine is stuck in orc town and I need to get her to dion, but I am not planning to run or to spend heaps amount of money on her.
But if you mean the "Gatekeeper's Offering" quest from the Orc gatekeeper, sorry that one doesn't work anymore (nice big functionality bug too btw but w/e) because that gatekeeper doesn't actually teleport to gludin anymore so she won't take the quest reward items.

Uhm lol yes you can run from dwarf town to the "continent". I did it on the PTS with my orc, to explore :).

Isn't there a quest to port to Giran and back? I haven't done a dorf or orc lately but there was from TI, last I checked.
Yep there is. Its a lvl 3 quest for all races you get by talking to the GateKeeper in town. I am actually saving my token for when I have to do my 2nd class change. Between that token and doing the GateKeepers Favor quest *is dwarf* I should save a good bit of adena. The Orc have this 2nd quest available at their GK but I read earlier that it is glitched.
Getting to Gludin isn't the problem. Get the "Gatekeeper Tokens" quest from the gatekeeper in the Dwarven Village. You have to kill some 40 Whinstone Golems (level 14) for it, and you'll get 2 tokens which teleport you to Gludin for no cost at all.
Or get one of your clan mates to do the quest. In our test, the quest items drop the same no matter if you're level 15 or 45, and the mobs are basically one-hit kills at that point. I'm right now farming the tokens like crazy for our Academy members. :)
Good tip. Still... You have to a: have support from high lvls for your scav quest o.O...
b : farm some silly golems to do your 1st class change quest.. As if the scav quest wasn't dumb enough like that.
Not that all class changes should be as easy as Elven Oracle but.. u see what I mean.
Well, the GK costs are supposed to be more expensive because they need an adena sink to try to combat inflation, and I understand that. However, it does disproportionally hurt lower levels.
My idea to Gatekeepers:
Make the GK costs level based, just like your ability to wear gear, luck charms, etc. That is:
Level 1-19 (NG): Gets a 45% discount off current prices.
Level 20-39 (DG): Gets a 30% discount off current prices.
Level 40-51 (CG): Gets a 15% discount off current prices.
Level 52-60 (BG): Uses current prices.
Level 61-75 (AG): Costs 10% more than current prices
Level 76+ (SG): Costs 20% more than current prices
In addition, with each grade, open up new port spots that are desirable for those levels. So the level 1-19 might only get the ports between towns and to the lowest hunting areas; level 20-39 will get all of those plus some new ports to hunting areas. Open ports for AG to TOI5 and TOI10, etc.
Such a system is probably more effective than the current system at combatting inflation (I would wager more total cash would be destroyed). And it will pull the cash from the players that have more cash to spend, while also not being a massive burden on them. Town->town ports are pretty cheap now, usually not more than 10-15k between adjacent towns, and so we're talking about 2-3k price increases. Couple the increases with more port points and people should be very happy with the changes as a whole.

That's actually one of the best ideas I've seen.
No need for an extra "noblesse" gk when it would all be opened up according to level and status. Meaning a level 7x will have more options than a level 6x and so on, and a noblesse will have more options still, and a hero having yet more options on top of that. With prestige comes benefits after all... granted with a premium price ^_~
