My girlfriend is not uncertain whether or not she wants to play the prophet that we decided on to duo with my HE, and I dont want her to dislike her char later on.
What caster or melee classes would duo well with a Hawkeye in lieu of a healer/buffer?
We also want a class that will be desirable to have at endgame.. something she will enjoy playing.
archer+sws isent a very good combo. most of the times the mobs will be dead befor the sws even can touch it. sure, its nice for the archer, but I bet the sws will get boored pretty soon, and just sing and be afk for 2 min :P
well fun...hm...its cheap :) i rather play and prophet then SE.. and equip the PP with a focus dagger or focus sword and he can even do some small damage :) Its a good class if you wanna earn money in groups, or selling buffs :)
All classes are what you make it. You'll be sad being a HE with no prophet though, trust me. Prophet have all armor masteries, and with their buffs they can equip a weapon like a dagger and add damage, or throw a root out there. Root and ranged attacks are a wicked combo.
You'll be sad being a HE with no prophet though, trust me.
most deffently somethign I can totally agree with.
SE is nice for recharge, but PP buffs are much better.
Even tho zerk lowers eva it is still really good in PvE, with zerk I shot alot faster and kill alot easier. with out it mobs get to me.
Maybe she'd consider a WK(warlock).
when she hits 58 can cast queen to up her and your crt rate. duos very very well with eather kai or queen.(queens dmg as a DD sucks compaired to kai)
and she can go light armor and a dagger or duals.
or maybe a PS, they got a summon that can hate even in PvP.
but make sure your g/f gets a second acc and makes her DD on that rather then on the same acc that your PP is on...or you'd be sorry when you have no buffs.
I'd say no to a nuker archer combo..just don't mix very well.
also SR/PR with a HE isn't that great, PR is slower atk speed when they are using their new skill, and SR range is too small when they use "rapid fire".
Well, I am not so sure prophets are fun. The fact that the vast majority are dualboxed should tell you something. Prophets are extremely important for like one minute out of every 20. In between, sure they can add some damage and they can crowd control, but there isn't a whole lot else.
If she doesn't want to play a live prophet (and truthfully, I wouldn't) she could consider bladedancer. The buffs are good too, though you will only get a few at a time. You'd still hopefully make a friend (or box) a prophet, because their buffs will stack with the BD, but I think in the end she'd enjoy BD a hell of a lot more. It's the dark elf version of the swordsinger, and I know she was partial to light elves. But the BD will have a lot better damage-increasing dances (which is what you most need) and it will take her less time to reach a level where she can make a strong contribution to the party.
To give her time to do her damage you'd probably want to hunt 2x mobs. You'll have some issues because of mixing melee and range, but at least you'll have someone close to the mob to pick up the adena ;) It shouldn't be too bad, and BD seems like a pretty fun class. Apart from a pure buffer/healer, a BD will probably give the biggest boost to your damage, and a BD is not a bad damage dealer herself.
Only issue there is that until 40 she won't have any dances, so leveling up until 40 will be somewhat less fun. BD is a class whose usefulness skyrockets with levels -- until 40 she's a tank, and she's a mediocre part of the group. However, after 40, the class really takes off, and becomes one of the most desirable classes to have in your party there is. It's sort of the orc mystic syndrome -- at high levels they are really great, but to get to those levels you need to play through the low levels.
The upside is that one of her most important dances for you is her first, at 40. From there it just keeps getting better.
A good clan can help you get to 40 pretty fast though -- especially as clans would love to fill up their academies and get the reputation points from that. So shop around, find a clan that fits you and will help you get to 40.
I would recomed a Warcryer as an excellent duo to an archer. The benefits from this combination are many.
1) WC is a buffer and crowd controller (fast casting sleep). It's buffs are among the best (specially at higher levels) for DDs
2) It can wear heavy and start dealing damage to mobs before the archer draws the aggro, thus sharing the HP damage (which it can also heal)
3) Since it can take and deal damage, as well as sleep and heal, it is very active during grinding. So, you don't get bored by just sitting down.
As a HE you get pain of sagattarius, thous with BtM you can lvl for the most part with lil to no problems, grab a bishop.
Stay on undead type mobs.
63-75 in FoTD.. or at 73 you could swich to small party and go to pagens temple.
The benifet to having a bishop, you get heals so you can use pain, and he/she can do MoH, TuD, BoA, heals, sleep mobs( trance), gives you holy weapon, and can even give you zerk lvl 1... which coupled with GSAP and SE buffs your set... grab a nice o/e BoP with CS and head out to own some undead.
besides a bishop has a very hard time picking up a party. but is the best healer/ rezer...and after a while of good friend ship and consent lvling they will thank you for making them lvl so much more faster.(archer kill rate is so fast...specailly HE)
And like wise you shouldn't need to worry about ever dieing unless you bouth lag out.
If you run out of MP with a CS bow in 10 minutes then something is seriously wrong with you.
I didn't say anything about runing out of MP...I said it starts to run low after about 10 minutes with a CS bow... that is so long as your not receving out side recharges.
my test of that was when I was 49-52 with a +6 emi killing mobs...my MP burned to about 60% give or take by the time I hit 10 minute ruffly.
but I was also ueing skills and geting recharges.... I tried to go a full buff round with out recharge. but when you get herbs all of the time and the likes it make lil to no difference.
A lot of you are getting off topic... what is the best NON HEALER/NON BUFFER class to duo with a hawkeye. She decided not to be a healer so she wants to know her options.
A lot of you are still telling me which healer or which buffer is best.
There will be no buff/healbot, this will be pure duoing with the two of us.
Is HE so bad without a buffbot that I want to choose a different class? I will not have a buffbot or healer.
I am thinking she is probably going to be a bladedancer with my HE to give me song buffs above 40 and still have fun.
hey man, I boxed a prophet for a while with my SR...it was ok, but still kinda sucked, so then i made a BD, and with Fire/Fury/Warrior it's awesome, i suggest she go BD, she can use a bow too (with CS so she doesn't run outof mp fast) in a duo with my BD i go a full 20 minutes then it's rest mp time. but BD is a fun class, and they also get arrest, perfect for archers so they dn't take any damage and for the BD to actually attack the mob before its dead. Now...HEs are great, but you realy don't get the good self buffs, and unless you plan on making some buffer friend fast, i'd go SR, just because we have good self buffs, and shoot faster, crit more, run faster and better evasion. i haven't tried SwS in a duo with me yet, but i'm sure it's good too, the crit song, and HP song and Mdef song, and WW song...there are soo many. but like i said, my SR/BD duo is awesome, so good i haven't leveled my prof at all, and now my BD is almost 65 :), really fast xp :)
I guess we're just so baffled that you want to go it without a buffer, because it's all kinds of painful without one.
Bladedancers are good if she can stand dancing every 2 mins.
lol macro it :), that's what i have done, and use Swift atk pots, then you dn't need haste2 (because archers are not money macking characters, we burn money like there's no tomorrow)
well.. the thing is I'd rather not play then have to run a third account with a buffbot....
And if playing a live Prophet (or some other healer) isn't fun then I'm not going to force it on my girlfriend to play while I play the fun class.
I think the whole buffbot situation sucks... they ought to make the healers and buffers fun and pvp competent in their own right so people play them live.
The hell with buffs and heals... what class will she really ENJOY playing with my HE?
And since we arent going to have heals and buffs.. is there a different class I should consider? rather then HE?
A nuker is as offensive as it gets, and works from the same range as a He, maybe thats an option?
And seriously, I play an SE since C2, and must laugh at all those people bragging about the fact healers aren't fun or uber enough to play.
Soon, only the true ones will be there, and people will see we aren't so bad after all, and the complete healer-Reroll thingy will start all over again.
Im a total noob, what is CS?(so she doesnt run out of mana), and what do you mean about "with Fire/Fury/Warrior"... are these referring to skills and CS referring to gear?
Thanks much for the advice tho, looks like BD is how she will go.
Since you seem to think playing a live healer is enjoyable, can you reply with some encouragement about healers? What makes them fun... why would you want to play one live?
Also you mentioned nukers... which nukers are good without a buffer?
CS refers to the special ability of certain C B and A grade bows called Cheap shot. it reduces the amount of mana u use to shoot arrows with.
fire/fury/warrior are dances that the bladedance casts.
yes, the terminology is wierd, but such is the way of the old posters relentlessly using glib speech on novice characters who likely havent levelled over 40 yet.
dont worry, youll pick up the lingo pretty quickly.
and i know im stepping in here, but the only nuker thats good without a buffer is either (and debatably so) the Spell Howler, or the Necromancer.
both can regen mana fast, both hit hard, and drain like back quite quickly, both have pretty powerful stuff but: necromancer has a summon and can "trasnfer pain" making damage dealt upon the necromancer considerably less because it throws the majority of damage ontoo the summon.
howelers have an Overhit spell which when cast, effectively Overkills your target, genreating extra EXP for you. sometimes (and if you learn how to do this correctly) up to 30% more exp per kill.!!!
both hit hard, and can hit fast when in the right gear and neither "require" healers to back them up, but are always a welcome addition. especially the Shillien elder *snickers*

CS = Cheap Shot SA (Special Ability) on a C-Grade Bow or above. Something like a 30% Chance for your next bow shot to only cost 1 MP.
Fire/Fury/Warrior are BladeDancer Dances.
Dance of Fire: Increases Critical Attack Power. Stacks with Deathwisper (Buff that does the same thing.)
Dance of Fury: Increases Attack Speed. Stacks with Haste Buff as well as Alacrity/Greater Swift Attack Potions.
Dance of Warrior: Increases P.Atk. Stacks with Might/Greater Might Buff.
It will probably take a long time for us to get to level 40 since we still play WOW and will be playing this only casually. Will we be ok duoing up to 40 with no healer/buffer and a BD-HE combo? It prolly doesnt matter at this point, we're gonna try it anyway =P
Palus Knight & Rogue (20 - 40 Versions of your BD/HE) would be a Good Semi-Tank Semi-DD, and another DD combo to use. Your either going to kill a mob too fast for it to do any real dmg to you, or your Palus Knight is going to act like a Tank and block 60% of the attacks thrown at her. (Only 1 DEX under Light Elves so her Shield Block rate should be good)
Thank you all for your polite and helpful replies.. I know I've been hoarding the forums the past couple of days but I hate learning things the hard way and then rerolling... =P
Based on all this advice I'm fairly sure I will go HE (or TH if I cant adapt to using a bow), and she will likely go BD, it sounds like her style of play... at least 40+
Someone in one of my many other threads said something about a "BATTLE PROPHET" with dual swords and heavy armor.. that sounds neat!!! Im going to research that further... more forum hoarding.... but since only one person suggested it I dont guess its a very viable option.

If you get in a good clan, that will solve a lot of your problems. At the start you'll get the newbie buffs (even if you reroll, because the patch soon will take care of that -- of course you can reroll to a new server and get newbie buffs right away).
Once you get to level 15 or so, start shopping around for clans. Right now a LOT of clans are trying to level from 5 to 6, and the easiest way for them to do so is to have low-level players move through their clan's academy. You should have NO problem finding a clan who will put the effort in to help you level up, you can afford to be choosy. Every clan will also have buffers, so you can play with clanmates and take advantage of their buffers -- and that BD will be a good ticket into groups; every group wants a BD -- not only do they deal quite respectable damage, they boost everyone else's damage too.
Because the higher level members of many clans will be working on alts to put through the academy right now, you should have plenty of company and plenty of opportunities to play with others.
And hell, most of us who have been here since Prelude leveled up to 40 with no buffer, no soulshot/spiritshot, no newbie buffs, etc. It's slower but it's not that bad. Without a healer/buffer, you might find you need to do things like sit down and take an MP break. I personally used to read a book while waiting for my MP to recharge. The whole boxed buffer thing is nice, simply because once you hit the 6x or 7x ranges leveling gets really slow, so people pull out all the stops to boost it.
Again, though, if you're in a clan, you can party with clan members who have buffers or play a buffer class as their main. It's hardly necessary for all forty people in a clan to have their own boxed buffers. And realistically you're going to want a clan anyhow -- virtually all of the high-end content is geared towards clan and alliance members. Find a clan that fits you, and with luck you'll have a lot of really good XPing parties.
but since only one person suggested it I dont guess its a very viable option.
I understand that you don't understand what most of us are saying which gets confusing. specailly for new players.
please trust me when I tell ya that once you get past 40 you need a out of party(OOP) or in party buffer.
a L2 necro is the same as WoW's warlock. atlest from the discription.
when you get to higher lvl's your going to find leveling to be very very hard when your dmg doesn't kill fast enough.
A battle prophet (PP), is nothing more then a prophet in heavy armor, masteries that they get at level 52. and DDing in a solo sence. or else they can be a leacher in a prty and buff and sit for mp. you wont have to worry about her getting board playing this class, cause you or her can hit a macro start buffs 2 minutes before your buffs fade and keep fighting the whole time your PP buffs.
Macros are used to make things easier. one of the importent things about a PP with macros, is that it save you some mp in case you forget and cast the same buff two or three times.(it happends)
When I play L2, I play in windows mode not full screen mode, as far as I know WoW only has full screen mode, this isn't the case with L2...to enter windows mode after you start up the game from the .exe shortcut file on your desktop hit ALT + enter keys at the same time(after you get the start up screen). then you can resize the game, and every time you load L2 it will load it into the size that you made the game to be.
From doing that is what most duo boxers do when we play. this allows us to tab from 1 client to another client of L2. or 1 account to another account.
so hopefully you understand that you can play L2 with 2 clients on 1 computer even 3 if you want to. and you don't have to have 3 or 4 computers inorder to play L2 like you mite for WoW.
yes a BD is a very very good class to have as a duo with a HE.(hawkeye)
maybe she'd think about a warcryer(WC). they are buffer/ close meely fighter, they get a heal over time (HoT), and can sleep mobs, nuke, and I think can root to.
WC gets alotof the offenceive buffs that PP's get, and some of the defencive ones of EE(elven elder) and SE(shilen elder).
WC buffs a full party vs. a PP that buffs single people.
Congrats, Baynn, I hope they work out well for you guys. :)
please trust me when I tell ya that once you get past 40 you need a out of party(OOP) or in party buffer.
Ridiculous. No one 'needs' an out of party buffer.
I understand the value in one, and they certainly do make life easier. But they are not a requirement to play the game.

we mock you cause you openly suggested it knowing what a strict stance NC takes on the boards if not as apparently in the game.
aside from that, i havent read anywhere on ebay that you could buy an SOM on bartz. only adenas. gear doesnt sell online. only currency. and you said buy gear.
