Battle Prophet? Viable?

Ok, Ok, I (cant) Promise to make this my last thread!

Someone in one of my threads mentioned a "Battle Prophet" as a possible solution for me. Has anyone tried playing this? how did it work out? From what I understand its a prophet dual wielding swords and wearing heavy armor... Is this a fun combo?

I'm pretty sure the solution is going to be her playing a Bladedancer, but I want to investigate this first.

She is willing to be a buffer, but she wants to be a combatant too!

Thanks.
for my experiences I've tried it, a battle prophet with a good healer behind (me I tried with SE) it make it an impressive DD for a caster class
Well.. what about Duoing with a HE and beating on the mobs the HE is killing between buffs? With no other healer btw.

Would it work? would it be fun?
Might be more fun then just buffing people, but a Prophet is a Human Mystic in the end, No Mystic can Melee things and do a great deal of dmg compared to a real DD class.

Like said above, they are a great DD For a Caster Class
So far from experience, BD has been one of the better duo partners.
I really like the battle prophet play style, the prophet is a very versatile class and as a duo with an HE would probably increase the kill speed more than a BD (due to buffs, the BD does a lot more damage themselves if everyone has buffs though I have never compared a self-buffed BD to a self-buffed prophet – probably still in favor of the BD). With heavy armor a battle prophet’s pdef is very similar to a tank’s, though their total hp and abilities with a shield are not. They can also battle heal or pop back to town with return 2 and/or rez the HE if things get very scary. ;)

The prophet (or BD) wouldn't be able to hold agro from the HE though so both would probably do better to kill off any almost dead mobs as they get close to the HE.

I have played a nuker with a battle prophet tanking (~lvl 60) and it was a prophet picks the target, attacks, I kill it hunting style. It doesn't work if it takes too long to kill the mob because I would pull agro and the prophet gets frustrated running all over the place chasing mobs as they attack me. The prophet did do enough damage to make it take less nukes to kill the mob though.

Once a Battle Prophet has accuracy 3 (maybe a +dex tattoo too) a dagger w/ focus makes a very good weapon because with the low strength the only way to do damage is with crits.

You will also need to get at least +4wit -4men or carry a robe set (or both :D) to be able to buff at a reasonable speed if wearing heavy armor. The tatoo is key for battle heal and rooting too.

Did you and the BD have PP, WC, or SE buffs?

i duo with BD, self buffed, have since i was like mid 60's and she was 40(dance of fire), and swift atk pots...good combo
Do you think your self buffs help very much? Does the BD do very much of the damage? I assume if you were equal levels the BD tanks while you assist them?

From my understanding the BD songs are not as strong as the buffs. Fury is haste1, warrior is might2, and I am not sure about fire, DW2 maybe? The real benefit to the BD is that their dances stack with the buffs.

I am just asking because the only experience I have hunting without buffs with my BD is from buffs going and agros still around. It never seemed very good; I have always thought I needed focus & dw.

Edit: I am curious as I am leveling an HE now and always though I would absolutely need buffs so have planned to just use my SE to dual box. If my BD would be better or as good that would be great! I could level them both once the HE is high enough.
From all prophets, a Battle prophet is probably the most interesting class to pick from. It's not THE melee DD like a BD, but it sure can put a good fight.

I couldn't handle it for more than an hour before giving up.
I have a clannie who won't play his prophet any other way. Just depends on your playing style. :)

It was just me (PP) and my friend (BD), nothing else.

I'm sure I was doing something wrong but it just seemed so painfully slow.
They can do a little bit of damage with the right weopon. they do get weopon masteries. play with a dd and se/wc. I've seen lots play with duals and robes on. they have a little bit of hp, and won't pull aggro. so with a dd and vr, the prophet can just buff and not have to heal all that much in the right area.

I mean who doesnt like prophet buffs?????

That kinda makes them just regular prophets as opposed to a battle prophet...
You can do "battle prophet", but it is slow exp compared to just duoing with a real DD. Prophets just do not have the stats or skills to do GOOD damage. Sure, their buffs help a lot, but a prophet with a dagger or duals just does not do the same damage as a buffed dagger user or a buffed gladiator/BD would do. A conservative estimate would be that in a duo you will get 1.5-2 times the exp you get while soloing (1.3 times the exp per mob because of duo bonus, far higher kill speed).

Also, if you ever want to do something else than "battle prophet", i.e. going standard prophet style in a normal exp party, you'd need at least an extra robe set and a mana up/conversion weapon to buff. That means extra money.

But I can understand that it is fun to try something else for a change. Heck, in Diablo 2 I went melee sorc, and it was fun to try out if you could get to high level :)
...and did you succeed? WHat highest level you got?
(Sory for hijacking)
Sure, the Battle Prophet is a very interesting class. I have my main character a Battle Prophet, and Im in love with him.
Here's my details :
lvl 68
Weapon : Kesh*Dama +9 (350p.attack)
Armor : Tallum Heavy +3 all the parts (8% attack speed, +2STR)
Dyes : -5CON +5 STR
HP : 3950
MP : I dont remember :-P

With full buffs :
P.attack 930 (1026 with BD Dances)
Attack Speed 510 (585 with BD Dances)
I play sometims PP and SE in duo. (2 accounts, 2 PC)
PP66 Doom heavy set, +4 Dama focus,
+2Str-2Con, +1Dex-1Con, +4Wit-4Men
SE58 BW Robe set, +5Dual Katana, +4Wit-4Men
Good and safe to level if in a small room at Devotion Necropolis.
My subclass is a warlock, and the damage capabilities of my class (discounting my pet) would be the same as a prophet's, in terms of stats.

Atm I'm focusing on pve with the warlock and have him setup at -8 con, +4 int/str with Maj robes and +4 Dama*Dama. The Maj is for casting speed and stun resist with the -con, while the duals mean more accuracy so I don't miss as much. My cat keeps aggro so I don't need heavier armor than robes.

I believe this setup would be ideal for a battle prophet as well. You still have lots of mp and cast speed for buffing, and I can attest that with buffs you actually do considerable damage. It's not as much as a true DD, and I wouldn't recommend solo'ing as an efficient method of lvl'ing, but you can provide considerable dmg output to boost your party.

I find it very interesting to play multiple roles with one character. As a warlock I'm a buffer/healer and a dd and it keeps me on my toes. A battle prophet would be the same.

Anyway, gl - hope you find a style that suits you!
Yes a battle prophet is viable class.
I just love mine. She can deal damage, somewhat tank and has can cast battle heal when it gets rough.

Soloing is difficult at lower levels since the prophet hasnt maxed out all the fighter buffs yet. Ive tried it a few times from 50-60, and I found it a quite viable option. Imo, a prophet can solo as well or better than most other DDs (assuming they dont have a buff pet around or bought a stockpile of l2day scrolls). Although soloing isnt the best xp option.

Now in groups/duos you have many options.

1) large groups: The traditional prophet with robes and mana up/conversion weapon. Not to fun to play, thats why most of these types of prophets are buffpets. Expensive if you still want a heavy set to do other stuff

2) Duo. BD would be best in my opinion. But with any other melee is good too. One of best ways to play a prophet. A duo with an archer is great... for the archer. Hes going to be uber and kill alot faster. However, this combination often ends being boring for the pp since the archer often kill sthe mob before the pp can get to it. Great xp, boring though ( excpet for running around and picking up drops)

3)Small group. This is the play style I enjoy the most. Good xp, fast killing, and not boring. In most groups the prophet would be sitting on their behinds and not contribute dirrectly to damage . An awfull waste of potential. A battle on the other hand can deal damage.

As I mentioned in a another post, if my party members can know if im using shots or not just by how fast we kill the mob (and without having to look at me) then she must be doing a substantial portion of damage in our small group. I deffinatly do more than half the damage a normal fully buffed DD would do.

But your battle prophet has to be setup properly !!!!
If you dont go all the way battle prophet setup , you will end up being dissapointed.

A darn good example or a good Battle prophet setup:

Although personaly I love OE B duals with focus.

A battle prophet is an interesting class to play. Its a support/fighter hybrid. It was its up and downs as all classes. I love it. But to all people considering playing a battle prophet: dont expect to be a supper uber killing machine. Your a hybrid. That meeans that you dont get into the mindless grinding and repetivness of a fighter would have soloing, and your not bored out of your mind only buffing every 20 mins and some crowd control. A hybrid can buff, tank, deal damage, heal, crowd control....
