So I hit 20. I have no money for much of anything. I can't use soulshots constantly. I'm an assasin, so whether or not I kill fast is totally up to luck, not to mention it drains the mana fairly quickly whether or not I hit or miss with mortal blow. I tried using poison to kill things. It's more reliable than mortal blow but fights last longer (technically fights last longer with mortal blow if I miss) so I end up with less HP all around. This is on slightly green enemies that give about .4% per kill.
Not to mention getting killed by someone who can't speak english and thinks it's funny to go around and keep me at 100 HP but not kill me, forcing me to leave the area (and me not knowing the game, I have no idea where else to go) or flag myself and try to kill them, which I can't because they're a caster and are both faster than me, better geared, and have ranged if not a higher level.
I know this is a PK game and I expected to run into some moron eventually, but it's only adding to the frustration of not knowing what to do. So what should I do? Group? Where? How? Grind? Where? Is it supposed to be this tedious to grind at this level or am I just doing something wrong? Should I waste money on potions?
Zelderon - Sieghardt
Killing Bugbears near Gludio. They seem to be the best and easiest things I can find to kill that give good XP/SP and don't take forever to kill.
Devadasi is the one annoying me.
Gloves and feet are the best D grade you can buy in the shop (I know there's better D-grade, but I hadn't uprgraded those parts of equipment in a while, so I figured I'd go ahead). Other than that, most of it's not even the best NG stuff you can get.
Where should I look for a group? Doesn't look like there's many people around Gludio on this server, but then again, I dunno how far of a distance shout covers in this game.
try heading to the are just South of Gludin. youll find some bears and vuku orcs that need killin. the poison spiders drop NG weapons that sell to players 150k adena each. only ever got one myself :/ theyre hard to get. but gettable.
If they always stop shy of killing you, chances are good that they're using a cheat program to see your HPs. Report them (/GM).
I ended up reporting them. They did seem to suspiciously know what my HP was. I would intentionally let my HP get low on a MOB so the next time they would attack me they would kill me and flag red but every time I did that they seemed to know I was low on HP and would just melee me with their staff.
Anyways, I've been grinding stuff that gives a little over .2%. Does that sound normal at this level for a solo assasin? I found some Vaku Orcs nears Gludio, but I'll try Gludin tomorrow, I just didn't feel like running out there tonight. The orcs seemed better than the Bugbears because the Bugbears were requiring me to rest after 7-10 fights and with the orcs (as well as shadow beasts) I can grind for a long time before I need to take a break and the kills aren't incredibly slow.
The only problem is that I'm using the Dark Elf life drain and Assasin poison more than I am mortal blow or anything else because they seem to be much more MP effecient right now, even though I can almost 1-hit the enemies IF mortal blow lands. I feel more like a gimp caster that can melee semi-well at this level XD. I'm looking forwards to lvl 24 skills.
fight mobs you can mow through for a long time. Either white or green.
The idea is to keep going as long and as quickly as possible. Getting slightly less xp but being able to go through more is better than getting more but slow killing or a lot of resting.
Prime candidate for atopt-a-noob imo. Please someone on seig help this guy out with acadamy and sponsor armor. I would if i was on seig. He seems like hes trying hard and should be rewarded with some kindness from others.
Another place for you to try is Abadoned Camp. But better go there at 21, then you will get a nice quest for olmahnums (50-80a per mob). Also look into manor system, it will help you to raise some money.
You've gotten advice from some real 'heavy hitters' on the forums.
Now I'll tell you the right answer to your question (which I loved btw).
Go to Langk lizard area--not Abandoned Camp, not outside of gludio, not Ruins of Despair (though all are areas you could solo in good D-gear).
Go to Langk area south of gludin--or continue to hunt greens around gludin.
Kill them for another couple levels. Don't port, don't use shots unless you still have newbie shots. Keep using newbie buffs which you get till lvl 25 I believe.
You can play in top NG well into mid-20's. I was in Orc Barracks with my first toon at lvl 26 in Bronze with a falchion.
Eventually you'll have to quest for money and also learn the market a bit. The long quest from the guard on the arena side of gludin pays pretty well if I recall.
As splatter said, don't start telling yourself you need top D-gear at 20 or you'll get frustrated and quit. Keep playing. Keep interacting (NICELY) with others in chat. Keep learning the game play. Keep being cheap with every adena. And for goodness sakes find GREEN mobs to kill. If those beat you up to bad it would be better to even go light blue (though you'll have an adena/drop penalty).
If you can gather about 150k-200k in adena it should be enough to start you on your way. If an acedemy picks you up obviously they will help more with gear (which would be huge for you).
Questing and hunting will not afford 800k weapons and 800k worth of gear at lvel 20. Never happen legitimately unless you constantly delevel. Even if you use manor. Never. Not possible. Average player using manor and knowing game (who doesn't cheat) has maybe 200-400k at lvl 20 (Dont believe me? Check Franz posts--most had more like 100k at lvl 20! I am pretty good at low levels and had 114k 'extra' on Franz at 20). If they get better/lucky drops they can do a bit better.
Once you get a couple hundred thousand it becomes possible to pick up player sell-deals. Those players who are trying to sell 310k NG weapons for a quick 125k---that's the one to buy and resell. Heck, when they shout offer them 100k--if they say no, offer 110k, etc.! Sell it overnight (if you can leave computer on) in afk shop for 250k. In a few nights while you sleep someone will buy it. Ding! You made 125k while you sleep. Now your 125k has become 250k. Repeat.
To do this you have to KNOW the shop prices for NG gear (have them written down) so that when someone shouts "xxx for 40k" you know whether or not to jump on that one.
THATS how you make money in L2.
You are DOING FINE!
A guy helped me out a little by giving me some items he claimed would sell for about 250k total.
I've been doing this harvesting and am wondering where I can usually find people who are buying materials. Which town do you usually see that in? I'm guessing Giran. I've been using Blue Coda and getting tons of Animal Skin. How much do people usually buy those for? Should I be buying lots of seeds or do people not buy stuff like animal skin for having a ton of them to really be profitable? I've already spent like 25k on seeds and am checking in just in case I am wasting money.
And again, thanks for the help.
EDIT: Also, I noticed when you're turning in seeds it shows two items for Blue Coda, animal skin and some kind of leather. What does that mean? I've turned in about 200 seeds so far and have got no leather so far.
How much money you make depends on the server. On Teon, animal skin should sell for 250a-300a quickly and for up to 400a in a few days, for example.
Whether you get animal skin or crafted leather for Blue Coda crops depends on the manor setup; if it's set to reward number 1, it's skin, otherwise it's crafted leather.
It shows posible rewards for the crop. Castle lord desided which one they give out. In your's case reward type 1 is a. skins and type 2 is crafted leather. usualy, crafted leather costs better then animal skins, so if there is a castle giving reward 2 for chily coda with good price go for it.
Can't say about a price, but yeah, giran is the best place to sell something.
Yeah, I just saw one up for reward 2 and it gave me 3 crafted leather for 85 coda fruit and made me pay 850. How do I tell if it's going to do that and how many I get?
It's based on NPC copst of items. You can see it by looking how much npc's will pay for it and multyplying by 2. The you multiply reward by number of crops you have and divide by npc price of a mat. So for example you have 200 crops to turn in for skins, skins cost 150 for NPCs and castle put 100 a as a reward. 100a*200crops/150=133.3 you will get 133 skins for your's crops.
Yeah, I just saw one up for reward 2 and it gave me 3 crafted leather for 85 coda fruit and made me pay 850. How do I tell if it's going to do that and how many I get?
When you click the 'tally indigneous product' link (or check the manor status for current day) the details tell you what you will get if you trade your fruit in.
Just hover over your fruit to get a popup which shows what the two possible rewards are, and then check to the far right of each line to see what each manor reward is set to. (As well as the buyback amounts.) Once you have made a decision, just select the manor and amount of fruits you wish to trade in below.
NOTE: There is a slight 'handling' fee (where you saw the 850a fee) if you sell to a manor in another town instead of the one you are actually standing in. How much material you get back is determined by how much fruit (xBuyback amount) you trade in and how much each material is worth. (2x NPC buy price.) There is a little bit of 'rounding' and such, but if you use those guidlines you'll never under return. (Lose fruit because not enough was turned in per single mat.)
[(# of Fruits) * (Buyback amount)] / [(2 * NPC buy price of material) ] = # of materials you will get.
So for your example...the manor is giving Crafted Leather for Coda, buyback is what? 200a?
NPC's buy Crafted Leather at 2,850a (* 2) = 5,700a base value for CL.
You are selling 85 Blue Coda's to a manor (Which is not in the town your standing in.) which is buying back at 200a.
17,000a / 5,700 = 2.98 CL. Due to some internal rounding and minor internal differences in price your CL return was rounded up to 3.
(I don't think there is a solid concensus yet on exactly where and how this rounding occurs, but using the above gets you real close.)
Given the demand for CL on most servers, it can be sold for roughly 8,000a (min) up to 14,000a (max) depending on your server and general market conditions. Granted you could sell the CL for 5,700 and still make a profit against your investment in most setups, but that would assume your invested time had a 'zero' value or you were banking on making your profit off the difference between the seed and fruit prices and/or the fruits harvested versus the seeds purchased. (Seeds vs fruits not being a 1 to 1 ratio under most cases.)
Thus is it possible to make a fair profit off lesser materials such as suede or Stems, but it won't be nearly as much as the 'in demand' materials. Then again, if those seeds are bought and sold instantly, being able to turn in and over a lesser seed can be more profitable than one you need to fight over for a week to turn in.
Very big help everyone. I feel like I'm grasping the game a little better. My only concern now is that I wish I had easy access to Giran at this point. Doesn't seem like much business in Gludin or the race track.
On another note, I recieved two spellbooks from the guy that I said gave me 250k worth of items. I set up a stall at the race track and put the spellbooks at the suggested price given to me by the person who gave them to me and someone sent me a message that I should up the price to 500k. The guy who gave me the books had a stall set up there as well and was selling the same SBs for about double the price he told me to. So as a price check, how much would Rain of Fire and Advanced Block typically go for? The guy told me to sell the RoF for 100k and Advanced Blocking for 150k+. I realize server prices may vary, but your server's prices would at least help me.
My only concern now is that I wish I had easy access to Giran at this point.
I'm not sure what level you are or what race....
But Giran is THE town to sell your wares.
And every race has a quest called mark of the travler which gives you a free port to giran... And once there you can do a quest to take you back to your starter village.
Where do I find that quest? It doesn't seem the Adventure Guide has it listed, but I do see some quests (such as the one to return home, that you mentioned) that mention Mark of Travler as a requirement. Also, is the Mark of Travler quest repeatable?
Anyways, by the looks of it, if I have to go back to my starting town to get the quest, it almost looks as if the run from Gludin to the Dark Elf Village is about the same as the run to Giran, though I do question the safety of myself if I ran to Giran.
The run to Giran is comparitively safe - and you can do it with a lil bit of porting help. From Gludin, teleport to the abandoned camp, run to its north edge, SoE - from Gludio, run out towards Dion and keep inputting /loc every few paces once you're under the cruma marsh. It will say Dion eventually, SoE. From Dion it's a long run, but safe if you don't go through EG but above it (towards partisan's hideaway). You might want to port to Partisan's if that's still possible (I haven't made this run in C5 yet).
Gludin to Gludio is a fairly safe run, and Gludio to Dion is a piece
of cake. Dion to Giran is safe except for the Dion Hills about 2
minutes east of Dion you'll get attacked by a Dior Wolf or two. I
think they are lvl 24, you should be able to kill one at a time.
What about your first class transfer. You should be working on that also, Splatter helped me with mine (thanks Splatter!). You
need to go back to DE Village to find out who to go to for that.
Also at DE Village do the Dwarven Kinship quest, see warehouse
freightman Collette. All you do is run around for 22,000 adena!
Then find the character for the Mark of Traveler to go to Giran.
It will be someone in the temple or whatever the church is. I'm
am Orc so mine was a Seer I believe in my starting village.
P.S. Take the top road from Dion to Giran, very important. NOT
the bottom road to the east!
The name of this quest for a DE is "An Adventure Begins".
Also see pet manager Martin before you leave Gludin. Get a Wolf
Collar and sell it in Giran for 200k, or keep it and have a pet. But
you have to feed him!
. So as a price check, how much would Rain of Fire and Advanced Block typically go for? The guy told me to sell the RoF for 100k and Advanced Blocking for 150k+. I realize server prices may vary, but your server's prices would at least help me.
What you can do is just sell them for what he says and see if any buys them.
I always sell A grade weapons for 2 million more than what the market price is (and that is after I buy it for 1 to 2 million less than the market price) And I do get people looking for the weapons and buying them (after they try to get my price down that is)
This is not to say I'm a complete price gouger. After C3 (I think it was C3... long time ago) prices to create D grade soulshots went up. So I started charging more than the typical 10 adena each. I went to 11. Then I decided "screw it" and went to 12. Well, some other dwarves came to gludio and asked me to raise my price to 13 so that they all would charge 13.
I refused. I felt taht that was a fair price given the cost of making the shots.
Essentially the market is part of the game.
You could also just go to giran and see what the other spell books are going for.
Well, I've manged to make about 280k so far with the manor system. I haven't sold the SBs the guy gave me yet because no one seems to want to buy them.
As far as d-grade goes, should I be buying the stuff from the NPC shops? What about the higher-end D-grade stuff and how much does the high-end D-grade stuff usually cost? I tried searching through player shops but couldn't find any. Are there any certain keywords I should try?
Also, I'm having trouble selling animal skin. No one is buying them for over 90 adena, which means I'd be losing money if I sold it at that price, but no one buys them from my shop when I sell them for 200-300 adena. I guess I need to try again as I have only tried overnight once, but the market doesn't seem to be very strong for it. I changed to crafted leather and iron ores from the manor system instead of animal skin because I can actually sell those easily.
High end D Grade can go for over a million. But it seems to me that you are doing well so if you can, hold out. If you go to Giran you can price some of the higher end D grade items at the weapon shop.
Giran is THE best place in general to sell at. Dion and Aden on Lionna have decent markets, but Giran is the economic hub.
I'd play adopt-a-noob with you but I'm on Lionna. At those levels, crafted leather is a good moneymaker -- be sure to check for which casle (dion or gludio) gives the best price for buying that crop (blue coda I think it is). Crafted leather is THE material for making every grade of light armor and robes, so it's always wanted and in large amounts.
Apart from that, varnish and animal bone seem to be pretty good mats to go for.
On your server, animal skin seems to be an unpopular item to sell -- however, crafted leather sells for 18,000-22,000 each. Animal bone is 800-1000 adena each. Varnish is 800-900a.
As an Assassin, should I be looking to buy the Manticore set (light/+MP set bonus) or Brigadine (heavy/HP & P.DEF set bonus)? I know I get more evasion and some extra P.DEF from wearing light armor (evasion comes from the first 5 armor skills you learn as a DE), but, in terms of soloing at least, the extra HP and DEF from the Brigadine set looks better. I'm sure later on the Light Armor Mastery skills will eventually add up pretty decently, but right now it's only a few extra defense and the much greater HP and DEF just seem to outway the evasion I'd lose. In grouping, I'd probably take the MP over the HP/DEF, but I have yet to really be told when grouping becomes good XP (not to mention WHERE, even though I've specified these questions) in this game so I can't make my own judgement on which armor set will be more useful to me.
I went to Dion to look for the Manticore set. No pieces. I can buy two of them in Giran but figured I'd see if anyone in Dion had a lower price, not to mention the boots, which aren't sold in the store. All I saw was Brigadine and the Mithril robe set pieces being sold. On top of that, people enchanted the armor, so the prices were way out of my range anyways. It seems I will also have to resort to the Giran vendor for weapons as well, considering all I saw were top dg weapons, which, again, are way out of my range currently. Hopefully Ill get lucky and find someone selling NON-enchanted pieces...I just hope that time comes before I'm out of the level range of D gear.

ah, now heres a good set of questions!
as an assassin you should wear light armor HOWEVER; most of the light armor sets below grade B are truly sucky. what you should instead focus on is something that WORKS and is CHEAP! for this reason i suggest to you that you aim for the "reinforced leather" set. the only way to get this is to get the items to drop (each piece drops about 1/3000 or so kills in OrcBarracks.) this is where your grouping question certainly comes into play. get a healer and another damage dealer, and head out there. if youre over level 25, get the quest from the little npc just East of the barracks. its pretty nice rewards and will sometimes pay itself for shots. if the pieces dont drop (they drop from the shamans) you will have at least made it to level 30 (doing some math a while ago i calculated that it would take approximately 12000 kills to make it from 25-30 solo in orc barracks on the warriors alone) and you should have had opportunity to get them to drop. its a good set, not as great as manticore, but manticore is far too expensive anyway.
if youre going the route of Ranger, i would suggest that you begin (after level 30 and with your group) to hunt in a little place north of orc barracks on some magic mobs (be warned - magic = deadly strong but their defence = weak and hp = low.) in Windy Hill. on these theres a 1/10000 chance to drop an elven bow (worth 800k) which you could use or sell depending what your weapon situation is at that period.
the bonus for a 3man party is something like 35% bonus exp per kill ... now before you get too excited i will show you what that means ... you kill a mob that when soloed would give 1000 exp lets say; in a 3 man group the 35% bonus becomes 1000*1.35/3 meaning you net just about 450 exp per kill.
"why is this better"? well lets say you were farming a drop ... youll need to kill 3 times the mobs to level ... so you get more kills in and you can count on farming a drop without outleveling the mobs that drop it.
You should use Brigandine Set or Mithril Set on your way to level 40. Mithril Set is a lot cheaper and all parts can be bought in NPC shops.
Dark Elves have bad CON. If you don't have a top d grade weapon then the mobs will hurt you a lot while soloing and you have to rest often. Using heavy armor you have to rest less.
Assassin is a very difficult class for a beginner. It's more fun to play as a twink or second char while your highlevel main (first char) pays for top equip.

Get groups in the catacombs and Necropolis's. Some of the best group XP in the game as the mobs are 3-4x HP. You may even find that you can solo (carefully!) some of the front rooms if they are available. Depending on your kill rate, this can be massive xp. With your gear though, I suggest grouping until you can get better gear.
Well, thanks to one of my SBs that was donated to me selling, I now have 600k. The two pieces of manticore from the NPC would cost 455k. Of course, I dunno how much people sell the boots for, so I guess it could be expensive, but if they aren't very expensive, I could either go ahead and buy them or save up a little more money.
With yesterday's Lute Coda price, I was able to make about 70k profit within 30-60 mins, and that's a lot of wasted seed (took me a fair amount of seeds before I realized they didn't work too often on orcs, lizardmen, and poison spiders, so I went to higher level spiders).
Also, to clarify, you stated that Light armor sets pre-Bgrade aren't that good but you said I should get the light armor set at this level. Is that just because it is cheaper than Brigadine or is the light armor at this level actually better? The two pieces of Brigadine sold at the NPC (I don't think the helm was sold there) weren't too terribly more expensive than Manticore, so I would definitely save up for it if it was worth it. Or do you simply think that the best armor set is not necessary and is, perhaps, a waste of money to a first time character? I certainly wouldn't mind saving some extra cash (maybe spend it on a weapon) if having the best dg armor set isn't that big of a deal.
You just need the P.Def of your armor to play solo. No matter if you prefer light armor or not.
The set items - Brigandine Helmet or Manticore Boots are craft-only and quite expensive. Depending on your money you may rather save for a c grade set on level 40.
A weapon is more important for a damage oriented fighter and helps soloing because you kill faster. Playing in groups is a good thing because a tank takes damage for you and you get buffed and healed.
One thing that I forgot to mention. With the changes that were made in C5, fighter classes are getting more raids than they did before. Raids can be good, not only for XP, but some of the level 20's-30's bosses drop some very nice items. Including weapons and enchants. Most of the time these items will go for auction on the spot and you can get lucky and end up with a nice weapon at a low price. Especially if the other players forgot to carry their adena with them.
Remember, no matter what you can NOT drop adena, so carry all you have with you. I got some very nice drops in Raids from the auctions because I had all my adena with me and others did not. Make sure to join Dawn or Dusk (whoever wins the most on your server, probably Dawn) not only so that you have access to the Cata's but also access to the blacksmith of mammon. You might be on a Raid and the boss might drop say an ELS (elven long sword), and you want a dagger. Well if you win that weapon in the auction you can trade that sword for a Mithril dagger at no cost with the Blacksmith!
Hmm...Difficult decision now. I guess it comes down to two questions that only I can answer. Take the easy way out and buy armor from the vendor (I assume Helmet is sold in Giran because it certainly isn't in Dion) or farm for Reinforced Leather? Will I solo more or group more to 40?
BTW, it appears the "library" on this site is wrong. At first I thought Mithril heavy armor only gave 20% poison resist w/o shield, but in-game it says it gives 2% p.def and +50 something HP. I'm questioning if that's really worth it. It's certainly easier to get Mithril armor, but that 2% p.def is very negligible and the +50 HP is alright, but certainly isn't nearly as nice as Brigadine, and the extra base p.def over light armor is good, but would be the major reason I'd be buying it. The MP difference between the two light armors is small when compared to the difference between Mithril and Brigadine, which makes me almost prefer Reinforced Armor, even for solo. I currently don't have huge HP problems (though I guess it could change) and speedy killing on the enemies I currently grind is usually limited by my MP, not HP.
You should use Brigandine Set or Mithril Set on your way to level 40. Mithril Set is a lot cheaper and all parts can be bought in NPC shops.
I level my assassin in Elven Mithril Set. More MP and the +7 movement speed helps tremendously, because the biggest time sink in L2 isn't resting, but the time it takes to get from one mob to the next. Especially true now that they've reduced mob density since C2.
However, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND Mith for anyone unless they have access to pots or buffs. Also, this is not a cheap set. The gloves are expensive. I also would not recommend this set if you are using a NG weapon.
If you don't have a top d grade weapon then the mobs will hurt you a lot while soloing and you have to rest often.
Maybe, maybe not. First of all, everyone will tell you to get a Mith Dagger, which is top D grade. I will tell you that you are just as good if not better with a Cursed Maingauche . It is the only D grade weapon with an SA. You like using Poison, and the CMG has that built into it. It doesn't have the p.atk of the Mith Dagger, but it is a dagger... so you still have faster attack speed and higher crit rate over other weapons.
Here's another thought: while you are at the Monster track, head over to the arena and see about getting some free buffs . 20 minutes of any level Vamp Rage, Focus and Death Whisper will do wonders for your grind.
Otherwise, if you don't have top armor, don't bother hunting Whites. Stick to Greens and Light Blues. In fact as a fighter class in moderate armor and weapon, you can still feast on a field of light blue mobs with less downtime than someone in higher grade gear who is hunting whites and yellows.
Finally, just for fun, try this. Run/SOE to Giran and once you're there, ask every higher level nuker that you see if you can go with them to pick up their drops when they hunt. Sure, some will laugh at you. Others clearly will think you're mad for even suggesting it. (You may have to follow them to areas where the odds of you dying to mob aggro is highly likely.) But ask anyway. You might get lucky and bump into someone like myself (and others) who don't bother to pick up their adena drops and mats...because it slows down our xp rate. Follow a level 50 - 60 mage for an hour and you could easily earn 200K+ just picking up their mats and adena drops. You might want to invest in haste pots and a Rez scroll or two, though, before you go along for the ride. (The most fun I've ever had was inviting 3 low levels with me to the Devestated Castle area to farm my drops. I can't tell you how many times they died, but by the end of the day, they all had enough to pay for their D grade armor and equipment )
in reply to your previous post, the Manticore boots +0 can run between 1.8m to 4m depending on certain conditions.
but what you can do with your 600~k you can get a D grade weapon. i suggest first tho what you try to sell the other SB around 200k (leave an overnight shop if possible) and blow the whole wad on the 800k D dagger.
this will make hunting a tad easier.
there is ONE golden rule in Lineage2 : ALWAYS UPGRADE WEAPON BEFORE ARMOR.
