Ok so im from cox wow etc etc recently tried al and it was horrible all wrong but everyone kept saying it was like lineage 2. So here i am trusting ncsoft as i do ( foolish naaah) and waiting for client to download so advice is what i need and new friends is what id like to make :)
Click on "The Library" on the main page and most of the information needed to understand the gameplay is there. Check up on the Race, Classes, and skills section in order to pick out a class you would be insterested in. Once you've picked one or a few you might enjoy come back and then we can give you some pro's and con's of each one.
There are several tank classes in L2, there are the Dark Avanger(DA), the Shillen Knight(SK), the Paladin, Tmple Knight(TK) and I also think one of the orcs is kind a tank class.
You can start reading about these classes in the libary section and see what skills they get.
Personally, here in C5, I think the DA is one of the best tank classes, it has a lot of good skills like reflect arrows, reflect damage, shield bash, ultimate defence and a lot more.
But I havent played a DA my self, but I have good friend in lvl62 who plays a DA very well. And in the right party combination (eg. a Gladiator and a Dark Avanger) the DA is a VERY usefull class.
But maybe some of you DA's out there can verify/correct my informations, thx :)
I'll make the pitch for Sieghardt server. PvE is the same on every server, the difference is pvp and politics. Orvieta and I are Sieghardt people both in what are called Neutral clans (WoJ is Independent) and can get you pointed in the right (well, that's subjective) direction. If you want PvP you'll find it on our server.
That said, every server is represented by quality forum members here that can assist you and get you on your way.
Welcome! L2 is a great game, best game ever. Expect some frustrations, its more challenging than most games, but don't let the frustrations get to you.

Archlord is very similiar to L2 except that L2 is (in my opinion) much better.
It's much more polished, you dont' have that nonsense with the chantra store, the artwork is done better. The new starter areas don't look thrown together.
Essentially, picture Archlord. Now picture a game with more attention to detail regarding the surroundings.
One might say that that is because L2 has been out for 2+ years. Part of that would of course be true. But L2 at launch was much more polished than Archlord at launch.
It is full PvP. It is a hard game, especially the economy. AFter you get to lvl 20 try to find a clan that will take you into their academy. Go to Dion and meet more 20+ players. Many of these will be other's alts but there is no getting around that.
Oh, and you have more than 3 races and none of the classes are restricted by the gender of the character.

Anyway to the op... If you decide to make a tank character. I would suggest DA (Dark Avenger) for 1 reason:
1) I like the fact that the DA get's a panther summon which helps him solo a little bit easier (at the cost of some xp though) but still a formidable duo or throw in a prophet and your all set.

it AINT bug free man.
in the stater areas for every race you can safely grind out to level 20 in near perfect peace. true youll probably see someone, but not likely. starter areas are quite the bare spot. so hunt quickly, get yourself up to the best of what the store can offer you, then come out of the starter zones.
there are detailed guides in the Guide forum of these boards. possibly you may find one for your class.
You might wanna tryout a Paladin since it's the most boosted class in c5(correct me if i am wrong)..
Considering you server choice if you check the forum at each server's specific forum there is a thread(poll results) which talks about server personality.. That might give you a bit of help :) .. Welcome to L2 ..
And a bit of a hint... Players that have names like lkasjd459hsah are not real ones *wink* ;)
Been online for 2 days so far and starter zone very slow as to be expected but i love the game so far lvl'd to 13 and met a few people whove pointed me in the right direction. so hopefully cya all in a few when ive lvld enough :)
Franz is designed for European Times. It is also a new server, so there won't be hero's or lvl 75s yet...but it probally won't be long...
Remember this server is located in Europe, so you generally will have higher Ping ratings.
Devianne is a US timezone server and has a lower population. Although it has been out for some time, so it will contain high levels and be like most of the other servers except for a few less people.

The CoX games have a predominantly Hermaphroditic players?
I'm UK and I hate Teon lol. Always prefered the 'US' servers. I mean, if you pay every month for the upkeep of 10 servers, who's to say you're restricted by nationality to only play 2 of them? It isn't like you have language problems lol.
If you can adjust to the times, which isn't hard if you start out like that, you may find as I did that hinde/Sieg/Bartz or even Lionna are the nicest places.
But then I never slept much anyway.
My advice- forget where you're playin for the mo, concentrate on gettin a different char on every server to level 10+. Different races and fighter/mystics. Find what character you prefer, or if you;re stuck between two, play both for seperate bits and go with which server you prefer the attitude of, or make friends on, or are luckiest on.
Don't get too far into a server you like on a character you hate, or the game won't be worth playing.
