I just know what type of random loot generator thats used.
I'd kill for a set of horns or a red mask for my orc, but i know i'd have a better chance getting hit with a ingame meteorite. Then getting one on the first try, because one try is all i can afford.
I think im going to wait a day or two to hear how the rates are. Then im going to spend up to 2mil depending on what i hear.

not everyone who spends money on this event would fall into your categories. i for one have all the gear and weaponry that i need at this time, and feel no remorse over spending a few million adena taking my chances with the event. i see no difference between this and the pumpkin event, and people spent a heck of a lot of money on that one too.

I'll spend a couple million, maybe more. Probably not more than 40 mil or so. Realistically PleChan and I are set on all necessary gear until our subclasses hit 61, and we're still a month or so away from subclassing.
And really -- I want the red mask and the devil horns. And I have nothing else for a long time to spend cash on.
Yes, it's a pretty transparent adena sink; so are gatekeepers, spirit ore, and soulshots but I use them too.
It's not just cheaters that cause adena sinks to be necessary, but the overall ratio of adena to materials has been rising for the entire game. The reason is, materials are consumed to make gear (which itself can be consumed, accidently or purposefully, into crystals). Adena rarely passes from PC to NPC hands -- most of the time I buy/sell items, the trade is with other players.
The adena doesn't leave the server, it just changes hands, whereas craft mats and gear actually leave the server, in the form of either 60% crafts failing, or the gear -> crystal -> shots method. This is the real problem -- craft mats accumulate slower than adena because the ratio of [craft mats destroyed]/[craft mats created] is higher than the ratio of [adena destroyed]/[adena created].
Because the money supply is constantly increasing, and because the materials supply is not (or if it is, increasing slower than adena), you get inflation. To reduce the inflation, you need to decrease the supply of adena, or increase the ways in which adena is consumed by the NPCs.
Overall, the effect of the event, if it pulls out a lot of money, will be to lower prices.

Being that it's possible to receive lvl 12 SA crystals, I will probably spend a lot. It kinda depends on how rare the crystals are, but I'd easily be willing to spend 30-50 mil if I can get a lvl 12 out of it as opposed to paying 100 mil to farmers.

It cant make you look unique cos many many people have accessories, and if you realy want to blow millions on something that doesnt add any stats to your char, give me the adena instead, i will dance for it :)

Only if you have the chance of dropping a level 11 or 12 crystal.
Plenty of people wear hairpins or hats - at some point cash for the next grade up stops being less important than getting an item you would like to put on your character's hat (I've started the long preparations for putting a feathered hat on my prophet-to-be, I'm not sure yet what I'll put on the elder-to-be).
1 million is chump change, even the really slow killing EO/Cl duo gets that much in a few hours of hunting (few meaning two or three), if I get a character on it that actually has damage output (like ... a fighter), I'm sure it can be done in less than an hour.
Otherwisely, it's also quite easy to turn such a small amount overnight, if you're the AFK shop type.
Yes, this is a money sink. I welcome it as such because sinking money out and useful items into the economy is the best thing an event can do, especially if it can do so without impacting the manor negatively.

Maybe a better money sink would be designing non-transferable items, or shifting some major consumable to NPC only. I'll still play this event for the chance of getting a Lesser Healing Potion for my 50k :p

Im not rich, but my low lvl crafter can make ssd... Which any low dwarf can. Without much work, I can make 1-2mil a day just selling at market price. So tell me again how hard it is for lowbies to make money. make a dwarf and go spoil for knowledge gloves... by the time you out lvl the mob, you will make an easy 20-30 mil. and thats before lvl 40. I will spend 5-10mil on the event.
after all equipments are sold i will net 120-150m. i will spend every penny on coffers.

cause the more money that gets REMOVED from the game, the higher ebay prices are. the higher prices are, the less ebayers we have. and you all know how it snowballs from there.

Basically since I lack marketskills to get cash via playing the market / the time to set up shop as I lack the will to pay for the extra energy for letting the computer run, let alone to play the game in general.
I see event as something to work for during the grind. Imho this paying for the event is completely the mirrow image of what I would like to see.
Sure, it can be an adena-sink but I would have come up with something differant. An adena-sink to me is no fun whatsoever.
Allso the way I see it now: if my "luck" to maybe get a SA-crystal were to be the same as getting a full weapon (Bgrade or higher) drop it would be next to non-existant.

so youre saying you dont want to spend money / grind hard / participate much but still get something that could potentially make you a multimillionaire overnight?

I am allso saying that it should be something you do while you grind not by running from town to town to find a NPC or something like that so you can spent your surplus of cash. The reward I added as no-one seems to interrested in any event unless the reward is something good. To make sure it cant be abusted I choose the word "once" (What that reward would/should be is up to the event-maker not the players).
Here is an example: you get a reward in the form of a random summon being that of that silly two headed turkey/buffulo/baby tiger whatever. Maybe in light of this event that summon could be a undead-type kind of summon. It does not even have to be a summon that had any skills. Hell you come up with a "good" reward.
We've had "while you grind" events a-plenty. I can't participate in them as well because I don't play during peak hours.
This event (or non-event as some people seem to think) is a reward not only for ebayers but also for those who've been busy making money, allowing them to earn more.
Much better than rewarding some lazy peole who kill fast and only get by on using events to make money, IMHO. ^_^
I made about 140 mil from the time I started this thread. I might blow 5 mil a day and see how many fireworks I can stock up. Maybe light them all up one day under Antharas and see if I get an epic jewel.
